The Federal Government is tackling corruption in the country as well as Nigeria’s poor reputation abroad.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo disclosed this while fielding questions during a session titled “Conversations with the Vice president” moderated by Miss Zain Asher, a CNN news anchor at the 2017 Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) National Conference in Lagos, yesterday.

When asked what was the most important reform embarked upon by the Buhari-led administration, Osinbajo said the administration had set a strong foundation for economic recovery.

“We were dealing with a mono-economy and a financial industry that was essentially opaque. We have set a foundation of rebuilding the economy, creating the Treasury Single Account (TSA), monitoring government spending, modified the tax system to be more efficient and implemented executive orders. Meeting with union continues tomorrow

The federal government on Tuesday reached an agreement with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) aimed at resolving the indefinite strike by the union.

The meeting came as the government urged the university lecturers to suspend their ongoing strike in the interest of the nation.

ASUU had Monday embarked on strike following the failure to implement the agreement it reached with the federal government in 2009.

The meeting between leadership of the union and the Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige, ended with an agreement to audit the N30 billion earlier given to the union in 2010.

After the meeting, which lasted for more than four hours, both sides took significant steps towards resolving the issues raised by the union.

Goodluck Jonathan, the former President of Nigeria on Saturday in Abuja reported that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had come back from limbo and will take over control in 2019. Jonathan made this known in his address at the party’s special national convention.He said that the party’s accomplishments while in power would revive the certainty of the electorate to vote it back in control in the 2019 general decisions.

“The party is indeed back to reclaim its prime position as the party to lead Nigeria to greatness. As a human institution, we cannot claim to be perfect and as a political party, our accomplishments up to 2015 are clear for every Nigerian to see,’’ he said.

Kano state Governor Abdullahi Ganduje has reassured his administration’s unending commitment to a national unity by insisting that the Igbo people residing in the state would not be allowed to leave.
