Hey Makylove, I think you may have missed this question that someone asked some lines back. I am also interested in the answer because of some other people I know, so I will try and ask it again. maybe rephrased. You shared that you hadn't been to Canada before you got the ten years. but had you been to other countries? What is your travel history prior to the ten-year visa? I would like to know because yours is a bit more recent than mine, so I want to know if the Canadian govt is okay issuing long-term visit visas to people with no travel history, in recent times.

makylove101:
So I just called up a friend at Immigration in Naija. She helped me process it. Tried the website but couldn’t make any head way (I believe this is deliberate on their part).

Travel / Re: Giving Birth In Canada by dazzing: 11:29am On Jan 27, 2022
Dear Kay your question is tricky and tough. And you may have to provide more details on the exact circumstance of your spouse to get the right response from the forum. But from what you have provided, it can go either way. I can't guess if your spouse is there for schooling, express entry, or some kind of work exchange stay. The risk is if you mention pregnancy you may have a similar experience like other people on this forum where it took a really long, complicated and unsuccessful route. on the other hand if you mention only family reunification and you turn-up with a big belly, the immigration officer may say misrepresentation. This is why I say your question is tricky. If your family reunification is a case of PR as in you want to go and live with your spouse, then it doesn't matter whether you mention pregnancy or not. that's why I say you may need to share more about your circumstances. I'm no immigration advisor, but if I was in your shoes, what I would do, ,... I will make a decision based on the trend. If I think people who have been rejected stated pregnancy, then I wouldn't want to be in that category, but again this is an assumption because I am not in that category. Anyways I hope someone else can weigh in. best of luck.

Kaycherry:

Please house I need advice....if I am applying for family reunification because my spouse lives in Canada....do I need to also state I intend to also have our baby during the visit?

Please responses will be appreciated.
Thanks

Hello Conyema, have you had any headway now. Just to say that if your wife has a Nigerian passport she needs a valid visa to even enter the plane to Canada. Your two kids can travel for sure, but with a mum who has a valid visa. So I wouldn't even buy a plane ticket without a valid Canadian visa on my passport and I have two Canadian kids too. This is why you have some mums who are giving birth in Nigeria even though their older kids were born in US or Canada. I think this is what your question is about.

conyema12:

My wife applied for Canada visa around July this year . She had our first 2 kids there and currently on the 3rd pregnancy, unfortunately the visa needs to be renewed as it has expired. We ve been having challenges due to COVID issues.
Is there a way she can use our kids (Canadian citizens) as her reason for exemption to travel as she doesn’t have a resident sibling in Canada at the moment
Thanks

Oh my days did you say ten years?!!!! and there goes the end of me renewing my passport for only five years.

makylove101:
Thank you.

Yes, they issue visas based on the validity of your passport. My passport doesn’t expire till 2029 which was why I got a 10 year visa.

There’s only one visa fee.

Oh my days, first of all, the fact that you typed up your entire conversation, like womannnnnnnnnnnnn, I'm taking off my hat for you. lol. Again this trend about this sort of in-depth questions at the second stage..., and your boldness, wow, congrats to you! I guess now that two people have shared, this Dr Ted must be a good doctor.

My hubby and I got our TRV from VFS Abuja office via online application in 2019(4yrs and 10yrs visas respectively due to the validity of our passports). I posted about documents submitted and timeline in the Canada TRV thread. I wasn’t pregnant back then and had planned to use it for tourism in 2020 but then I lost my mum feb 2020 and COVID hit.

Dsquare, I am so excited to read your story, I have not been here for a while so it is such a joy to read your story which is similar to my second trip. Your experience with the second immigration point is interesting and it's making me think if their process has changed slightly because of the kind of questions you got, I wasn't asked those. One may need to carry a lot more documents when traveling based on what you shared. Another thing, did you use the line for Canadian citizens since you were already traveling with a Canadian child. It wasn't clear in your story. And was there any advantage to that in terms of your wait time? congratulations again, this was an awesome read!

This is to share the first part of my experience on the birth of my 2nd child in Canada. Please note that my wife and I had our first baby in Canada 2 years ago, the experience of which was shared on this platform. COVID happened few months after and this platform has been mostly quiet. So, I will give details of our journey so far.

Hello Dazzing,

My situation is quite similar to yours. I have a visa and had my first child in Canada, I plan to travel next week and need some immigration advice from you. I sent you a mail, please respond.

Sorry Nana for just seeing this, I have responded to your mail, but for the attention of others I'll still say, always check IATA and Canada immigration website. I recently got a mail about some mandatory 3 days in a hotel paid by you for all travelers. in fact I was planning some sort of visit with my family but when I got that email, I have had major change of plans. so its good to keep checking I remember I used to check weekly some times a few days apart when I wanted to go on my own trip.

Hello poster, the days you mentioned is almost equivalent to 8 months. You have answered your own question. As for other countries, I heard USA is not giving pregnant women visa again, maybe after this election if power change hands then you can try. I ve read some other folks here say something about Brazil and Mexico but I know nothing about those countries.

Jimisola14:
Hello.

Please I need advice. is it advisable to start Canada visa application now that my wife is already 4 months gone?

234 days is written on their website as the processing date. If Canada won't work, what other better option should we try?
Thank you.

Dear TheDeolaNG,
Your question is too broad. Ontario is a big place, contributors only share for a specific area. From my experience, doctors will say when you come into the office bring your money along with you. I'm not too sure about the deposit thing. Dr Grace and Dr Kayode still take non-OHIP patients but any deposit you want to make will be direct at Brampton after they have referred you.

I already shared a list of hospitals, ring the doctors attached to them to see who else is taking non-insured. best of Luck

TheDeolaNG:
Dear All,

I know this is a an already discussed topic here. But I need urgent help.

Can I get information on
- A hospital and Doctor in Ontario who is taking on International patients and would receive payment immediately.
- A room apartment close to that hospital for 2 months

Thank you all.

Apologies for my late response. I just got back to my base a few days ago from Canada, so still settling in. I was able to respond to what I could via email, but do feel free to share on here and other mums with experience can input. It is critical that you are able to enter canada by the time you want to travel so keep checking their site for that.

Your chances look pretty good based on what you have shared. the two times I have applied for visa I have never had less than 2 mill, I dunno what the expectation is now? Perhaps research tourist locations and hotels/inns in Canada like around Niagara falls area. Or use a holiday booking site, if you book something in advance then you can use that as a reason to visit without knowing anyone.

About the 8 months, application process times, takes a long time but changes so go on the website and search processing times, to see if it has reduced or not.

Kemo88:
Hello house,
Please I would like to apply for a Canadian visa for next may. I would like to visit and possibly use it for child birth later. I’m worried and confused Cos of the rate of rejections people are reporting nowadays

I would like to state that I went to Canada in 2011 and stayed for 10 days. I never renewed since then. I also also collected US visa(2years each) about 5times. Uk visa about 5times too. All my visas are currently expired.
I would like to know if
1) can I apply now even though I don’t know anyone in Canada to invite me and I just want to state I’m going on holiday next year April /May 2021
2) what are my chances please?
3) I will be sponsoring myself, I’m married. However, how much will need to be in the account on the average for better chances.
4) what is the average processing time? I saw 8 months somewhere... Do you really think It can take 8months?

Sorry to hear about this, but thanks for sharing. Please can you clarify what you wrote in your second line, are you saying to were able to get the letter from the Canadian health authority, but they still refused you? Also who exactly are this authority is it dependent on the province or a national body?

Judzygal:
I finally got a refusal letter.

Application date/biometrics....28 Oct 2019 (paper based)

email for proof of payment from a competent Canadian health authority........ 31 Oct 2019 (I guess we were the first batch that got the email cos every body seemed to be confused as to what they actually meant)

Paid hospital and Doctors fee and sent receipt with another LOE....8 Nov 2019

That was the last time I heard from them till I got the refusal letter on 14th October 2020.

I kinda expected it anyway....cos it took so long.
By the way, I put in the application when I was 4 months gone with the pregnancy, refusal came when my baby is already 8 months...lol

Please how long does it take to retrieve passport...
I have written vfs, the confirmed that my passport hasn't gotten to them.
I have an urgent need for it right now.

Anyways, I was talking about this with someone today and though Canada has resumed online application for temp visas, the wait time according to what this person told me on their website is 8 months! so I don't know if it is shorter for those renewing now, but is there something in particular you are concerned about? I would say just go ahead and apply.

Hello, Sorry for late responses, I noticed that since my last post I got alot more direct mails, and I see there are a few questions on here that I haven't responded too. I'll try and do that now, but some quick update:

I got my baby's passport. from interview/form submission day till I got it took just two weeks, so I'll say the process is still working okay even with the restrictions and limited service.

General update: Canada border restrictions to visitors was extended again till end of this oct.

answers to questions:
yes, you are on point there are mainly two confident sources to get travel restrictions on countries, IRCC and IATA websites. which I also used. My first child like I shared is a Canadian, Canadians are allowed into their country and me as the mum, an immediate family member. so airline would always ask for evidence which is the birth certificate. again non-optional/non discretionary reasons, mine was medical. plus I have PR siblings but that only came up when I was already at canada immigration. the main thing is airlines will not let you fly if you cannot show evidence to enter a country that has restrictions. Again I dunno it may have cooled down now, but when I used airfrance I saw a lady who was bounced at Paris, as she didn't meet the criteria. it wasn't pretty. I understand that not all members of this forum would meet that criteria that's why I said my post is useful for intending mums coming after the ease of Canada lock down.

My journey to come though cumbersome will not be relevant to this group cause the conditions I traveled then have all changed now. Now there are airlines and countries have opened up. Again even though I am Nigerian, I don't live in Nigeria, I live in another African nation, so when I came my journey was broken in pieces, through different African countries, with the last leg being via Paris to Canada. I hope I've answered all questions. I'll update the group again if I get any other info.

Oh I forgot to mention, some months back the Nigerian embassy here wasn't working , but now I saw the press release that they have resumed services but very limited and by strict appointments only. this was really a massive headache to me, and in the end, I will not be using them as I suspect there may be backlog on their side.
grace789:

Hello dazzing. God bless you for this post. It is truly a breath of fresh air and congratulations on your newborn.

Pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeee, I am very much interested in that travel route into Canada at this time. Provinces are experiencing higher COVID cases which makes it unlikely that borders will be open to tourist visas, but you travelled with a tourist visa so I'm just clueless. Your post is a glimpse of hope to me. Please help!!! Information is gold at this time. All I need is a step in the right direction and I will do the other work myself.

OTHER INFO
Also, for others you want to travel to Canada, extended and immediate family members can apply to travel on compassionate grounds. If you have a parent, sibling (half or step inclusive), boyfriend/fiance of 1 yr, husband, child/step-child, grandchild ; any of which must be a Citizen or PR, you can apply, although, you must have your visa already. I believe this is in efforts for family reunification for the holidays - December period.

BIRTHING EXPERIENCE DURING COVID RESTRICTIONS in Ontario
Hello ALL, especially to mums expecting later this year after most of the travel ban has been lifted. A summary of my second time experience. I already highlighted the hospital I used in the uploaded pic above.

Immigration experience: I won’t bore you with the details of how I came during the lock down, but I will say attention should be paid to the rules of entering all countries/airspace, esp. Canada. I met those and got in.

At Canada, I met the first immigration lady, who asked purpose of traveling, I answered non-emergency medical reasons, specifically birthing. She asked why I needed to come to Canada for that. And I explained its better system here, and I got family here, so I prefer having my kids close to family. She transferred me to the inner immigration room, where I waited to meet another officer. The wait was long, I missed my connecting flight, (so do be cautious of the time difference if you are connecting within Canada). The actual time spent with the officer when I met him was very short, a few minutes.

He asked me how much I had, I told him how much, his response was something like ‘oh that’s good’, he didn’t want to see the cash. He asked me about correspondence with a hospital. I told him that hospitals rarely do emails, but as this is my second issue I have registered in my old hospital and have my doctor’s details. I showed him doctors business card and receipt for hospital I registered for my first issue. In all the documents I gave him was about 4 or 5, some of them I got the idea from this forum (so thank you fellow sharers). Other documents included a printed excel budget for my birthing and bank statement of an account that had good funds in it.

I did two weeks isolation, almost all the doctors I spoke with refused to take me onboard cause I would be far gone by the time I come out of my isolation period. They told me to go to the nearest hospital if I felt any major discomfort. That’s why I did a lot more hospital research. Those who wanted to take me on board where being funny. There are some I would have considered if I had come earlier. Like the Dr Grace woman that someone had mentioned here, her office is quite nice, I’ll say do go with her if you come on time.
The travel ban had a lot to do with my coming late so I hope other mamas make it here in good time. Delivery of baby was okay, all went well, thank God. Spent a bit longer than a day, as we were waiting for pediatrician who was super busy that particular day.

Three days later did baby checkup at clinic, C$50 paid for that.
I did two short birth certificates, the second one now has the parents’ details and was designed specifically for those who want to do international passport (I had to ring and ask cause I got confused when I received mine in the mail). Costs C$ 25 each, so C$50 for both.
International passport is C$57, process is just a bit delayed as you can only get appointment by calling due to the covid-19 issue.

Also I have been seeing the concern about this health authority letter. Honestly I’m lost myself I have no idea what this thing is, what I will advise though is get a regular visa, visit Canada once, then plan how to deliver your baby. Or even if you don’t visit, just get the visa sha. I know it may not be that easy but I don’t know where this special letter is coming from.

A don’t really have any other costs, except regular costs. I’m still at my relatives who pretty much takes me around so limited taxi costs. We are more concerned about the whole covid thingy. Nothing else to add, but if I do get additional info, I will share.

Best of luck to everyone.

HELLO HOUSE,
Its been a while since I was on here, but I have been using several weeks to catch up. I did share my first experience around page 60, so this is my second issue which came last month. I will share my full experience in another post soon. I am posting this because I do recall reading a question about people who have renewed their visa after a birthing experience. I don't know what page I read that on, but I would qualify for that. its been a while though. then they had that CAN+ option which is those that had a visa withing the past 5 or ten years. it was around 2019, so I don't know if that option still exists now, but it was an online application I did and it went smooth. I was granted till the end of my passport. I have also used that visa for visiting a couple of times both personal and work, and its the same one I used to have my baby now.

dear funkymum. I am just hearing that Dr Kayode does not take non-OHIP again. Can you double check, maybe ask hotstepper cause this is news to me. if this is the case, then go to a walk-in clinic and they will direct you to a doctor that accepts non-OHIP patients. If this does not yeild results then I may need to call someone outside this forum for advise.

Patiently awaiting your response. God bless you and kisses to your little one. quote author=dazzing post=64917505]Dear forum contributors, thank you for sharing all your experiences. I have been a silent follower of this thread since July 2017, and I benefited greatly from the forum. I would like to share my own experience so others can benefit and particularly shed some light on areas that may not have been adequately covered in the forum.

First thing is that I read the entire forum discussion from page one until the fifties. I got my visa some years back, I was given till the end of my passport. I have been to Canada before, therefore when I went for birthing it wasn’t my first time in the country. I had an interesting experience as the hospital I registered and went for ANC is not the same hospital I delivered at, as my labour came unexpected in late night. There was a mild snow storm (December weather so expected) so we couldn’t drive to far to my original hospital, I went to the hospital closest to me which was the famous Brampton civic hospital. My original plan was Stevenson memorial in Alliston.

TIP 1: register in a hospital close to your house as anything can happen.

I rang the doctors whose details was shared on this forum and true to what has been mentioned, both Dr Grace and Dr Abou, said they do not take non-OHIP patients anymore. Dr Kayode still does, but I didn’t use him. I also rang the Amma mid-wives services and their fees is CAD 4600. This excludes the hospital fees if you do decide to have a hospital delivery, also I opted not to use them. Below is break down of my expenses:

Epidura – CAD 500
Doctor fees – CAD 2,350 (this is a combo of the doctor fees who did my check ups and the delivery fees on the day)
Hospital fees – Brampton 2600 (i.e. 200 registration, 400 baby, 2000 my hospital day fee) Stevenson 500 (registration fees for non-resident)
Baby check-up CAD 300 – (i.e. 50 for baby doctor fees after delivery, 200 full baby check-up at mother and child clinic, 50 for walk in centre baby check-up a few days after)
Total for the above medical is 6250

Other expenses include several uber trips. I was with a relative so my costs on that was covered I also had a friend who gave me some free ride when opportune, but we did have a CAD 450 bill for uber hospital visit just as an illustration of that particular expense.
Lifelab – CAD 107, tests for myself
TIP: Please do not do any ‘out of your way’ tests in Nigeria, cause it’s so expensive as rubella alone labs in Abuja were telling me between 35 and 45,000 naira.

Documents
Long and short certificate – CAD 35 & 25 respectively
Intl Canada passport – CAD 107 (hubby did go to Abuja consulate to sign a form)
Nigeria ETC – CAD 137 (includes my express post and return envelope cost). I got good service with them; I rang a few times to tell them it was real urgent as I applied for all my documents two weeks before my departure date. It took them two days to process and post back.

TIP 2: Clarification on applying long and short certificate on line.
I wish someone had told me that on the website I should just go ahead and fill out the form and pay the fees as there is no option for payment for expedited service for a new-born. I almost made an error and wasted money, but thankfully that was averted.
Pretty much what every other person has shared is the standard process for birthing in Brampton. I’ll say additional CAD 1000 for other expenses including documentation. It could be more for others, please note I stayed at a relative (so no cost for rent, feeding and Wi-Fi) and I had my phone line, so cost of that CAD 35 x four months (internet on this package was weak so you may have to get a more expensive option if you need solid internet for when you outside). Canada phone set cost CAD 80.

TIP 3: a phone line makes your ‘ubering’ experience easier.
Sorry this post is getting too long, I just wanted to put in as much as I could. I spent almost four months, and I just returned this early February. Also baby won’t get health card, expect resident in country for over 150 days. Best of Luck to other expectant mothers.

In addition, we just sent an additional bill from civic hospital. for 200 CAD for the infant care. we called them and they said the person who charged us made a mistake. so its suppose to be 600 for baby, then a separate 200 for registration. thats my own latest update.

Geeagu:
@Dazzing your reply is very detailed. I’m very grateful. I’ll take on board all you’ve advised. No I’m actually at Mississauga and I don’t think it’s close to Allison but I’ll ask my friend. I think I may just stick with Dr Kayode, my appointment with him is tomorrow but I’ll see.

God bless you and the little one.

Meanwhile for others who might find this useful: I hear Brampton Civic just brought up a new policy last week that might mean you’ll have to deposit certain amount of money before you get treated. The gist is some Nigerian or some people use the hospital and disappear.

Hello I will try to respond to all your questions as best as I can:

- Stevenson registration of $500, did you get a refund - NO I didn’t, I didn’t even ask for one, from the hospital or the doctor whom I initially met. The relative I stayed with advised me not to pursue any refunds that things happened as God wanted it. And I don’t think they would have given me a refund since I still visited there a few times for my ANC. This fee also means I am registered with them anytime, so I doubt a refund applies.
- Brampton Civic, I’m guessing you just showed up and doctor on duty attended to you and you were billed whatever it cost for that doctor? - YES this is exactly what happened. I called my original doctor when I was in pain and he told me to go to the nearest hospital, I thought it was false labour because we were expecting the baby later, but as God will have it, everything happened so fast.
- Was it a hassle to sort out registration amidst your labour? No I was with a relative who did this for me, I was in too much pain to even know all of these was going on.
Did you have to pay all before you were attended to? No, once I registered I was attended to, then they informed us of the costs and we said we could pay. We paid after the delivery but I think my relative went to withdraw cash before the actual delivery started. Sorry but my memory of this is unclear, remember I was in labour. I do know that actual giving money to attendings and receipts was after my baby was out sha. I don’t think it would have been ethical for them to refuse me care until I paid, I don’t think they can do that in civilized countries.
- Doctor’s fee was 2,350: did this cover all your antenatal visits prior to delivery? YES, remember this is total doctor’s fees spent, I ended up using two doctors
- How far long were you when you made your first doctor’s visit? End of seven months/beginning of eight thereabouts
Would you mind sharing your doctor’s info here? Are you located near Alliston? This doctor is based in Alliston, which is very far from Brampton, one hour
- Any particular reason why you didn’t use Dr Kayode? I wanted to but my relative’s friends told me not to, but if it’s only me, I probably would have. He was initially the most affordable option when I did my initial check.
- I’m currently considering using it but his fee is 3,500 so I wouldn’t mind any cheaper rate really: My initial guy is no cheaper, especially if you include his epidura which he said is from 300 - 900 (note kayode's fee includes epidura). And I m not evn sure what his doctors fees is as I never ended up using him till the very end. It was one conversation that I got to a point were I had to ask my relative to continue that line of discussion with him.
- Lifelab: what tests exactly did you have to do? Several, similar to what others have mentioned in the previous forum like HIV, HEPTATIS, blood work, rubella, I think that’s a standard.
Did you need a scan too? Sorry I forgot that, I came with my scan results from Nigeria, but the doctor still did regular scanning during ANC (he didn’t charge me for that, he just used his machine to check the baby was okay). Cost of scan in Canada is however also above CAD 100 (sorry I can’t recall exact costs)
- documentation: how long did it take to finally get baby’s long and short birth certificates since there’s no expedited services for newborns? Good question. Five working days, but for me I checked my PO box late so it took me like nine days. You know what I did which was very helpful and I ‘d advise you do same too is, to call them and ask on the status of your application and tell them how urgent it is, because without the certificate you can’t apply for other documents.
How long after delivery did you apply for them?
I wouldn’t advise you follow my method because I had over a month to stay after delivery. I will say the next day after you come out of the hospital go online and apply. You can probably get it in 4 business days if you do this.
- when you say book a hospital that is close to the house, what’s your definition of close, 30mins? YES 30 mins is my definition of close

Geeagu:
Hi @dazzing, thank you so much for this detailed briefing of your experience.

I’m currently in Canada and awaiting the arrival of my bundle of joy; so your post is indeed timely.

I just wanted some clarifications on your tips / expenses below:

- Stevenson registration of $500, did you get a refund since you didnt end up using them as earlier anticipated?
- Brampton Civic, I’m guessing you just showed up and doctor on duty attended to you and you were billed whatever it cost for that doctor? Or was it the doctor you were supposed to originally use at Stevenson that still attended to you?Was it a hassle to sort out registration amidst your labour? Did you have to pay all before you wete attended to?
- Doctor’s fee was 2,350: did this cover all your antenatal visits prior to delivery? How far long were you when you made your first doctor’s visit? Would you mind sharing your doctor’s info here?
- Any particular reason why you didn’t use Dr Kayode? I’m currently considering using it but his fee is 3,500 so I wouldn’t mind any cheaper rate really.
- Lifelab: what tests exactly did you have to do? Did you need a scan too? If yes, was this covered in the 150 you mentioned earlier?
- documentation: how long did it take to finally get baby’s long and short birth certificates since there’s no expedited services for newborns? How long after delivery did you apply for them? I’m asking because I currently wish to return to base 3 weeks after delivery but I also want to know how realistic this plan is please.
- when you say book a hospital that is close to the house, what’s your definition of close, 30mins? You see I come from England and everywhere is close to everywhere but I know this is not a yardstick in Canada so a little clarification will be helpful. My friend thinks 30 - 45mins is close though

Apologies for long questions, I just want be sure I’m making an informed decision. Thank you.

I’ll return with my experience when I’ve gathered them all

megastu:
I dont think you would have problems as long as you have traveled to Canada before.

My kids visa approval took just 4 days.

From my understanding of what others have shared and gone through including myself, if you have a lot of cash on you, and you declare giving birth, then you should be okay. If your visa was for visiting and now you saying giving birth, that's the one I m not to sure of. If you are already showing then you may want to declare, but remember it is not a crime to give birth in Canada. I think someone else should comment about if you requested visiting on visa and now you want to give birth, will there be issues or not. I think this is the real question. Most people who declared usually already did similar from their application. I hope I helped o, sorry if I confused you more.

Sorry this is in response to Toffeedrop question about POE.

Dear forum contributors, thank you for sharing all your experiences.
