I have been been facing this problem of indecision for a while.

The s4 beats the z30 in all ramifications, and due to the drastic fall in price of the s4, they are now around the same price.

Also the z30 has a cheaper data sub( glo 3 gig for 1k), I need advice on which to pick.

Please share your views, thank you.

Points of Improvements expected from Blackberry. And Pros and Cons of the Device.

User Profile: This device is made for users who will use this one 60% for emails and communication and 30% for gaming and 10% for Photography.

What I liked in the device:
1) The Blackberry OS 10.2 which has very good Hub integration for all notifications.
2) The button less device for getting back to home page with gestures.
3) Multi tasking and keeping multiple apps working simultaneously.
4) The solid built and feel. In hand the device feels premium.
5) Stereo Speaker output is amazing. Love to listen to music on keeping it on loudspeaker.
6) The music output and headsets are surprisingly very good for a business device.
7) OS apps for business users like built in Office, Zip, Scan etc.
Facility of downloading and installing Android Applications from third party app downloaders like OneMobile etc.
9) BATTERY: Amazing battery life. It goes for 1.5 days for me with heavy usage of wifi, FB, Whatsapp and twitter
10) HDMI port: It allows me to connect to my HD TV to see videos/presentations etc.
11) With Blackberry coming up with OS 10.3 there will be improvement in the look and feel.

What I dont like in the device:
1) The Blackberry aaps like FB, Twitter, Linkedin is lagging behind as compared to android and iOS apps.
2) The downloaded android apps dont show notifications in the blackberry HUB.
3) Not all Android app are working on this device. For. e.g all banking apps etc.
4) The screen brightness is little dull. It can be improved
5) Camera needs lots of improvement in terms of speed, clarity, and software.
6) Accessories like cover, screen guards, pouch etc is not easily available. The one which are available are very expensive
7) Slow updates from Blackberry for essential apps like Whatsapp, FB, Twitter, BBM and also the OS updates are very slow. Rating: If the camera was good or of 8 MP i would have given 4.5 stars. 4 stars for battery life, multi-tasking, music, emails and built quality. I would recommend this device to business users and not to the multi media savy people who goes for photography and gaming.

According to an eyewitness who spoke with The Nation, Boko Haram men today attacked the PDP Secretariat in Gombe where they opened fire and killed many people. This was after carrying out an attack on the Nafada Divisional Police headquarters in Nafada LGA earlier.

“In Nafada, they went straight to the police station and opened fire. From there, they went to the PDP Secretariat and the local government secretariat and opened fire on each of the places.” the eye witness said

The eyewitness said 10 persons including one Sheik Adamu Misira was killed during the attack.

In a related development, there are reports that the sect men have hoisted their flag in Mubi town in Adamawa state, which they captured recently and have changed it’s name from Mubi to “Madinatul Islam” meaning the city of Islam.

“They mounted check points and surveillance at strategic locations, brandishing riffles but asking us not to panic or run away,” A resident of Mubi, Aliyu Bala told Premium Times.

A sickening photo has emerged social media showing a toddler kicking the severed head of a dead soldier in Syria. The toddler’s father is believed to be an avid Islamic State supporter and is wearing a camouflage military style baseball cap on his head. The father can be seen smiling with delight in the photo as he watches his innocent child kick the severed head.

The horrific photo comes just hours after ‘Raqqa is being Slaughtered silently’, a Syrian activist group based in the ISIS stronghold posted photos of the latest barbaric execution carried out by IS.

The photo shows a crowd of young boys, standing around a wooden gallows. There appears to be at least ten boys in the photo, but few are focused on the gruelsome scene nearby. At the center of the photo is the body of a Syrian rebel member, who has been crucified and beheaded. Zahran Alloush shot to fame for surprising reasons in early July when Islamic Front released a video showing the imposing figure of Alloush delivering a rousing speech to denounce Islamic State. However, it was his notebook which attracted a bigger talking point rather than the words of his speech. On his desk, a Hello Kitty notebook appears to have been used by Alloush whilst making notes for his speech.

‘Raqqa is being slaughtered silently’ has developed a reputation for providing a shocking insight into life in Raqqa. The secret activist group, whose members risk their lives to document the atrocities happening in the IS held city of Raqqa, have previously published other photos of public executions and general oppression.

Several of the groups members have been imprisoned and executed, whilst attempting to document the crimes being carried out by Islamic State militants.

Following Wednesday’s attack by Boko Haram terrorists on Mubi, the economic nerve center of Adamawa State and the subsequent attacks on Thursday, reports said yesterday that the house of the Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh has been burnt down.

Also destroyed was the hospital/clinic which the CDS built in memory of his late mother some years ago which had not only served the people of Vimtim but also provided first aid Medicare for wounded soldiers prosecuting the battle to dislodge terrorists from the North East.

A security source who made the disclosure to Saturday Vanguard yesterday, noted that on entering Vimtim, the primary target of the terrorists’ was the house of the CDS, adding that when they located the home of the Chief of Defence Staff, they were over heard, shouting, ‘bring out the family of Badeh for slaughter, search the whole house, do not let any of them escape’.

However, no member of his family was in the house when the attackers arrived.

Also, a son of the Emir of Mubi who was said to have relocated to Vimtim in the wake of Wednesday’s attack on their palace was said to have been recognized and killed by the terrorists.

Lamenting the shocking development, the source said investigations have now revealed that many supposed residents or visitors into Mubi in the last four days before the attack were Boko Haram members who infiltrated the town on the pretext of being traders or family relations running from the terrorists attacks in other places.

“What really caused the pandemonium and panic that assisted the terrorist gain a upper hand was that as soldiers were in the frontlines marked out to repel the sect members coming from Uba axis in Borno, bombs and gunfire attack was coming from inside Mubi and communities which resulted in confusion”, the source said.

Asked how this was possible, the source said tales of some of the people that escaped the attack show that many of them were told that they should not say their prayers in the town that day as it may be the last day they say such prayers in that town. They however failed to alert security agencies with such information until the deed was done.

On the next line of action, the source only said that security forces were not resting on their oars.

Meanwhile, several attempts to get the Director of Defence Information, Major General Chris Olukolade to speak on the attacks proved abortive as he did not pick phone calls nor reply to text messages.

A bomb blast at the Central Park in Cross, Gombe, Gombe state, has resulted in the death of “many people”, a senior State Security Service (SSS) official has confirmed to The Cable.


He said the blast happened at about 9:30am.

“They left the bomb inside one of the vehicles at the park”, he said.
“The blast went off at about 9:30am. Up till now, we don’t know the number of people. But it is a very busy park, so many people will die in such a bomb blast.”

He also said officials of the Nigerian army, the police (led by its commissioner) and National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) had arrived the scene to cordon it off and begin rescue operations.

A NEMA official who spoke with TheCable from the scene of the blast said more than 30 people had died, as at the first count.

“I have counted more than 30 dead bodies, but the death toll is likely to rise,” the official said, before asking for permission to continue with rescue operations.

The 13-year-old girl, who is unidentified, was first treated by remedies from the indigenous culture she was from, according to a photograph posted on Instagram by the username ‘juventudmedica’. A month later she was eventually brought to Carcaras, Venezuela,for medical treatment. Dr Arun Ghosh, a private GP in Liverpool, said: ‘Snake venom is very complicated and depends on the species of snake. ‘But the picture shows clearly severe tissue necrosis that will need amputation, though she still may die from this due to the nature of the poison.

‘The whole lower leg is black, it’s spreading up. Looking at the rest of her body she’s showing signs of muscle wastage from the poison. Her other leg is thin. It’s likely she will still die.’

He added that the necrosis has led to a condition called rhabdomyolysis, in which muscle tissue will begin to die throughout the body.

Rhabdomyolysis can result in damage to the kidneys, which coupled with low blood pressure, can lead to kidney failure and even death if left untreated, he said.

Being treated with local remedies probably meant she was given antibiotics, but not treatment to adequately control poisoning from the snake venom, which contains agents that paralyse the nerves and cause the blood to clot.

Dr Ghosh said: ‘This girl has had classic rural treatment which is often only able to treat local infection secondary to the bite (at best say equal to antibiotics).

‘But she is unlikely to have received anti-venom treatment (which entails giving treatment to stop blood clotting) to keep her blood flowing through her body.’

The photograph’s caption said the girl also suffered a broken elbow from the incident with the snake.

The bite caused a laceration to the artery in her leg and the resulting bleeding led to what’s known as ‘compartment syndrome’.

This is a serious condition when pressure within a compartment such as the leg causes a decrease in blood supply to the affected muscles.

A UK company is set to revolutionise the future of commercial air travel with a windowless plane that allows passengers to choose panoramic views of the world around them or swipe a touch screen to surf the internet or check their email from 35,000ft.

Windows would be replaced with ultra-thin and highly-flexible screens that would display outside scenery captured by cameras attached to the plane’s exterior or act as a personal touch screen computer.

The concept is the brainchild of the Centre for Process Innovation (CPI) and is still in its design phase, but developers believe it could become the world’s first windowless commercial aircraft in the next ten years.

In addition to providing entertainment, the screens fitted directly into the fuselage or into the wall panels, would provide subtle cabin lighting from gently glowing walls and could be switched on or off.

The system could help to offset jet lag as lighting panels would allow passengers to control colour changes associated with sunrise and sunset.

That would help them to adjust to time zone changes on long-haul journeys, according to CPI.

But the screens are not just for the enjoyment of passengers as they are designed to reduce aircraft weight and costs for both airlines and travellers

CPI said the fuselage would be lighter without windows and that would translate into fuel savings, fewer harmful emissions and lower operating costs for airlines.

Ultimately it could mean lower fares and wider seats for passengers.

For every one per cent reduction in weight the approximate fuel saving is 0.75 per cent.

Even though they are incredibly futuristic CPI believes the screens could be produced at a cost that is unlikely to be any more than current displays.

The company said it will take around five years before the screens, using organic light-emitting diodes (OLED), are ready for full production.

Based in north-east England, CPI is a member of the UK’s High Value Manufacturing Catapult, which is aimed at spurring development in new and emerging technologies.

With government funding CPI works with firms to create new products, including the OLED screens at its facility in Sedgefield, County Durham.

Chelsea have signed the QPR striker Loïc Rémy on a four-year deal. Chelsea triggered a £10.5m release clause in his contract on Saturday lunchtime and he was subsequently left out of their squad to face Sunderland.

“I feel very happy and very proud. When I heard Chelsea wanted to sign me I said ‘let’s go’ straight away because they are one of the best clubs in the world,” said Rémy. “I remember the amazing atmosphere at Stamford Bridge when I played there for Marseille and I can’t wait to play for the first time in front of my new fans.”

There were reports that Arsenal were also interested in signing the striker but decided not to pursue the deal any further.

Rémy joined QPR from Marseille in January 2013, scoring six goals in 14 games, as Rangers were relegated from the Premier League. He spent the 2013/14 campaign on loan at Newcastle United, where he scored 14 goals.

He played in QPR’s first two league games this season but not in their Capital One Cup defeat by Burton Albion, so remains eligible to play for Chelsea in all competitions. A deal to Liverpool earlier this summer fell through after it was thought that Rémy failed a medical.

A humiliating night for Manchester United, with Louis van Gaal still awaiting his first competitive win. Boko Haram commander, Abubakar Shekau has said his fighters are grateful to “Allah who gave us victory to attack Abuja and also the Yobe town called Damaturu.” In his characteristic rambling manner, he added, “We still thank God for the successful bombing of Damboa and other parts of Nigeria. We are grateful to Allah for the big victory he granted our members in Gwoza and made the town part of our Islamic Caliphate.”

This is the first time Boko Haram has explicitly declared a Caliphate in any part of Nigeria. Really sad!

It is important to note that before this award, the nominees of various categories comported themselves, such that it was a ‘No Victor No Vanquished’ situation. Opponents congratulated and embraced themselves in the spirit of sportsmanship.

However, all hell went lose some minutes after the award of ‘Most Handsome’ was presented to the OSCAR Lautech 2014 recipient of the award Anthonio. One of the nominees for the award, a person who is supposed to be a leader, an example for others to follow, disrupted the ensuing peace at the event.

In minutes, the act which the Student Union Government President (SUG), Areo Ajibola Arexzie, described as an “irrational Attitude by a comrade”, brought the event to an unexpected end.

Ladies were seen removing their high-heeled shoes, and gents getting rid of their suits, upon hearing frightening sounds. The security officers at the event could do nothing as other students were trying to prevent a possible fight between the parties involved. Everybody, now outside the hall had something to say about the conduct of the award organizers and the nominees.

Some even talked about the man already having the intention to disrupt the event if he didn’t emerge as winner of the award, while others talked about the credibility of the OSCAR awards itself.

Arexzie, while talking to pressmen said “The organizers of the OSCAR awards have been fair enough, as perfection is with God only. It has been a fair game so far. I would describe what happened as an irrational attitude by a comrade, under the influence of alcohol.
For otherwise he is a friend, A progress-driven one. Myself (Arexzie), Alopay, and Singapore, were nominees for the award of ‘Most influential’ student, but Singapore a 500level student of the department of Agricultural Economics was declared winner. Why didn’t I faint or react? It’s just a game.

I hereby tender an unreserved apology to everyone, for everything this might have caused, for it is indeed a shame that a member of the executive behaved thus.”

Dr. Young, a one-time contestant for the post of SUG president, made it clear that inability to admit defeat is the cause of behaviors as such.

Others commented on the credibility on the credibility of OSCAR coming low compared to the high expections 'Ladokites' had of them.

A new version of Blackberry Messenger for Android is on its way, especially for beta tester.

Beta test is part of tests for a computer product prior to commercial release. Beta testing, according to Webpedia is the last stage of testing, and normally can involve sending the product to beta test sites outside the company for real-world exposure or offering the product for a free trial download over the Internet. Beta testing is often preceded by a round of testing called alpha testing.

Nonetheless, the new version of the app is currently being pushed out to select individuals via the Blackberry Beta Zone. This isn’t a minor update, either. Not only does version 200.0.0.138 add BBM Voice, there’s also BBM channels, improved photo/file sharing, new emoticons and more.

With BBM Voice, Android users of the app will finally be able to call other BBM Voice members in a fashion similar to other VoIP calling services such as Skype. As for Channels, basically this allows you to create or sign up for a discussion group.

Although these channels could be useful for regular everyday Android users, Blackberry anticipates that the main purpose will be for companies to open groups as a means of communicating with their customers.

These are all welcome features, and seem to prove that Blackberry is serious about expanding the app’s feature list on Android. Too bad that BBM Video is still missing. Either way, let’s hope that the new features make their way to the stable Android app in the near future.
