The Acting Governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Fintri,on Monday brazenly accused the impeached governor of the state, Murtala Nyako of stealing from the state purse. This is even as he stated that since taking over the helm of affairs in the state he has embarked on rebuilding the confidence of the indegenes as well as trying to pay the backlog of salaries. It can be recalled that the embattled former Governor of Adamawa State, was impeached from office by the state lawmakers on charges of corruption and misappropriation on Tuesday, July 15, 2014. Emerging from a meeting with President Goodluck Jonathan at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, Fintri told journalists that calm had since returned to the state. "The man has stolen our money. That is the bottom line of it......Adamawa is calm. We are into confidence building, having removed Nyako and the destruction of infrastructure and morale of our people. "We are trying to pay our salaries. Salaries of workers because for months, he has not paid their salaries. That is what we are doing now. On the purpose of his visit to the President, Fintri said he had come to brief the President on the situation on ground in Adamawa. He however denied reports that the House of Assembly members had recieved money to impeach the embattled immediate past governor. "You saw the allegations and they have been proven by the panel, so that cannot be the reason why we removed the man. There were even so many other issues that we could not bring as part of the allegations that formed his removal. "Who gave the money? There must be an evidence of the person who gave the money. In this country, people are used to whatever situation that happened, it is about money. Who gave the money? he asked. On allegation that the President is trying to muscle the opposition by way of impeachment, he said "Nyako is not an opposition man. He only stole the mandate of the PDP into the APC. How did the President get involved in this local issue in Adamawa? he asked. On whether Nyako is on the run he replied "I don't know" . http://m.dailytimes.com.ng/article/8273/adamawa-acting-gov-accuses-nyako-of-stealing-from-state/

The Chairman Northern States Governors' Forum (NSGF) and Governor of Niger state, Muazu Babangida Aliyu has expressed shock over the death of former Secretary General of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and one time Petroleum Minister, Dr Rilwanu Lukman . According to Aliyu, in a press statement issued by his Chief Press secretary, Israel Ayegba Ebije, said Lukman was Nigeria's gift to the world adding that his intellectual inputs to the petroleum sector and science as a whole is indelible. The Chairman of the forum has described the passing of the elder statesman as tragic and monumental loss to humanity as a whole, said the deceased lived a worthy, exemplary and fulfilled life. "Humanity has lost a thoroughbred professional, fine gentleman, world class petroleum engineer and astute manager of human and material resources who has left indelible footprints on the sands of time.” “While it wouldn’t be fair for the North to solely lay claim to this departed gentleman, he was indeed a great Northerner the region will continue to remember. He will remain an example of a true Nigerian who served his fatherland solely contributing to efforts aimed at making the world a better place". Recalling his days as Nigeria's Petroleum Minister, the forum noted that Dr Lukman initiated wonderful policies that brought useful reforms with traceable results to the petroleum sector. It further stated that as Petroleum Minister he introduced a number of sound policies and blueprint for exploration activities in line with international best practices. “Dr Lukman was a first class Nigerian. We must learn from his patriotism, integrity, honesty, discipline, and dedication to duty and love for all, irrespective of tribe, ideological or religious differences. In all his engagements, he considers Nigeria first before thinking of personal or sectional interest". "As we mourn the passing of this illustrious son of Africa, I urge us to toe his exemplary, especially in our disposition to issues of national concern. The best way to immortalize him is to uphold those core ideals he worked hard to entrench in the system.” The forum also prayed God to grant the departed Aljannah Firdaus and comfort his family, friends and associates in this trying moment. http://m.dailytimes.com.ng/article/8272/rilwanu-lukman-was-nigeria’s-gift-to-the-world-–-northern-governors/

It was Sergio Ramos who dropped the Coppa del Rey while celebrating Real Madrid’s victory in the Spanish cup. A bus then drove over the trophy. Germany have managed something even more embarrassing. When triumphant Germany returned home with the World Cup trophy, wild celebrations ensued in Berlin, complete with a dramatic unveiling of Philipp Lahm holding the prize aloft. But somewhere amidst all the jumping, frolicking and merriment- making, the Cup sustained a bit of damage. In fact, a small piece of it is now missing, as the German Football Federation president Wolfgang Niersbach revealed. http://m.dailytimes.com.ng/article/8252/world-cup-trophy-broken |

Interviewer: Are you saying that what happened in Ekiti State can also happen in osun? Omisore: Far better. Interviewer:How? Omisore: Osun is surer than Ekiti State because Aregbesola is the worst governor in this country. His policies have been anti-people. The education sector has been bastardized, Opon Imo falsified, road construction has been abandoned, no rural settlement, no agricultural project, nothing to lay hands on. Recently, one of the schools constructed by this administration collapsed, that shows the inferiority of what he is doing. It is an albatross and a major problem for us in this state. But some people keep talking about various attempts at development under Aregbesola. For example, the Opon Imo you just mentioned, the O’Yes programme and so on. Which are all blatant failures and cause of his disaster as a governor… Interviewer: So what fresh ideas do you have in mind? Omisore: That’s just part of the make-believe of his administration and perception of those outside the state. These awards were bought. The truth is that the so-called O’Yes participants have not been paid for the past eight months; in that regard he has failed. Opon Imo has been withdrawn. I join other well-meaning people to demand for its withdrawal all over the state because Opon Imo has 17 subjects and 87.7 errors, that’s the reality. On Opon Imo, the governor spent N8.4bn. He gave the contract to one of his sons. Doing this is not the problem, but the reality is that a dangerous work, capable of destroying our students, was done. It has 17 subjects, and 84.7 per cent errors. For example, in mathematics, algebra to be specific, there is no single graph inside Opon Imo, no single diagram and so on. I am a mathematician, you cannot teach mathematics without illustrating figures. It’s not possible. No single table, when you go to physics, same story. and in chemistry nothing. The idea was driven by profit, Opon Imo, in chapter 4 (history), says history of the Songai Empire, what you will read in the body is the history of Mali. That’s the character of Opon Imo, I have written to the British government, that they should withdraw the recognition of Opon Imo: I have gone to the UNESCO. It’s an embarrassment. They’re being withdrawn from schools now. In O’Yes, he’s owing them salary. You don’t know government by slogans, it’s not by sloganeering. But the reality is that, at times, one cannot really run away from the reality of the level of the governor’s education. ![]() A good and effective governor must focus on developmental issues. You must be driven by developmental issues, developing human capacity, the people’s capacity and not by misapplying people’s money. Can you image a governor sewing school uniform for N14bn, depriving the small traders, the clothes sellers on the street, depriving tailors on the streets? He’s taken food from one million osun indigenous, men and women. These are people who voted for him. All because you wanted to siphon money. All these things have made him to fail. He came to Lagos Airport Hotel to showcase osun Airport, spending about N4bn, but nothing on the ground to show for it. source http://www.vanguardngr.com/2014/07/20-days-: |
When Ilesha, environs defied downpour for Aregbesola When Ilesha, environs defied downpour for Aregbesola Posted by: Erasmus Ikhide in Featured, News 12 hours ago POSITIVE signs are daily manifesting that Governor Rauf Aregebesola of the All Progressives Congress, (APC) is indeed the darling of the people of Osun. The people have solidly demonstrated their utmost resolve at all the political rally that have seen Ogbeni traversing the nocks and crannies of the state with the message of hope. They have shown that they have truly rejected the PDP for good. Ignoring heavy rain along the route leading to Ilesha from Osun Jela, Owode, Kajola, Idominasi, Oke-Omiru, Isokun, Itakogun, roundabout, Oja-oba, last week Tuesday before the governor’s campaign ship berthed at Osun Ankara, Irojo in Ilesha, it was popularity and balmy ride on the crest of the political soapbox. The crowd at the APC rallies has constituted nightmare for the opposing political parties in the state who are ridden by fear of their imminent defeat. The mammoths crowd that greeted the governor in his home town, Ilesha is a clear testament that the main opposing challenger, the PDP is definitely in the throes of electoral conundrum. Prior to that day, Senator Omisore had said in an interview in one of the national dailies that the crowds seen in all Governor Aregbesola’s campaign rallies are there for mere entertainment. “There is a crowd at the rallies because there are Fuji artistes there to entertain them. Those people only came to watch their favourite Pasuma or Wasiu Ayinde Marshal performs. Didn’t you see similar crowd at Fayemi’s rallies? What has that cost him? The votes are in the wards and in the towns. I’ve been going to every ward and polling units”, Mr. Omisore said. From all indications, Senator Omisore is ignorant of the usefulness of electioneering campaigns. Apart from being an organised effort which seeks to influence the decision making process within a specific group, it is the highest profile of political activities that focused on the grand primacy of democracy and the actual processes of institutional governance. Although Senator Omisore has been seen amongst motley of crowd, grabbing corn ears fitfully to his mouth! So far, Omisore’s satanising campaign against Aregbesola and the APC has been a dismal failure. Already, the ominous heat of total rejection is tormenting the party leadership and its minders into planning how to traumatised the electorate with security apparatus prior, during and after the election. Thanks in part to Governor Aregbesola’s sterner leadership, his people-oriented programmes and his consistent called for eternal vigilance on the part of the electorate whose duty it is to reward performing administrations or punish ruinous and tunnel-visioned governments; the shadow in which the PDP has casts itself since the beginning of the Fourth Republic. Omisore’s campaigns in most parts of the state, especially in Ilesha, the birth place of Governor Aregbesola didn’t go without criminal vandalisation of Governor’s billboards in the ancient city. The PDP venture into Ilesha was not to sell it candidate or manifesto to the people, but to reassert their well known imprint – “violence in trade”. Why would the PDP and its agents insist on continuing on the part of violence when it is faring so poorly in public rating? The only plausible answer is stomach-turning. The PDP probably calculates that it can win the election by creating a crises situation that would warrants flooding the Governor’s home stead with thousands of security agents who will in turn prevent the people of Ilesha from voting for their son on the day of election whom they have variously described as change agent! So far, the tactic is not working because there is no corresponding or collateral damage of equal destruction visited on the offensive PDP by the peace-loving APC faithful. The PDP has been doubling down in connivance with the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC. They are both calling for the militarisation of the state prior, during and after the August 9th governorship election, the same way the PDP’s Presidency unleashed military terror on the people of Ekiti in the just concluded June 21 governorship election. The barrage of attack against the APC followers in Ile-Ife, the home town of the PDP candidate, Senator Omisore has not abated to date, and promises to fester even more dangerously till election day and afterwards. However, this is not adding or winning the supports of the people for the PDP. If anything, it has waned the people’s supports for the party and earned it greater notoriety as a political party that thrives in subversive politics of brigandage and thuggery. The Presidency’s reaction to petitions by the APC on the cruelty visited on its members by the PDP has been muted. There is the need for the PDP and Senator Omisore to tweak the rules of engagement. The nation cannot remain oasis of peace and prosperity in a country on fire. The PDP candidate cannot be spurning spectre of unbridled political violence that is certain to bridgeheads the 2015 general elections. To be sure, the APC government of Governor Rauf Aregebesola has better incentives for the peace-loving people of Osun than the violence spewing and bloodcurdling PDP. The PDP’s engagement in violence campaigns is a reflection of its weakened and poor electability after the party’s seven and a half years of the locust. That cannot be compared with the APC’s three and a half years of tolerable governance, development politics, infrastructural revamp, agrarian rejuvenation, expanded governance, and education for the total man. Osun electorate have seen through the banal facade and covert gimmickry that the PDP candidate in the forth coming election is pushing forth. The dummy bothers on regaling the people of the state with suppositions and fathoms that suggest a repentant personage who would no longer be violent. Aside that, the PDP candidate has sought to project Governor Aregbesola as a man who has reduced the standard of education in the state than revitalised it; even though the Governor has been severally laureled by UNESCO and other organisations as the ultimate enabler and promoter of education in Africa. Senator Omisore has largely painted a desolate picture of the state’s educational system, beating his breasts and vowing to upturn what the world education’s universal body christened “shinning armour in the dark firmament’. Senator Omisore failed in both attempts. In the eyes of the general public, even though he has been exonerated by court of competent jurisdiction for not having hands in the assassination of late Chief Bola Ige, he will remain hunted, not just for his alleged involvement, but by the stigmal it permanently left in his trail as an accuse felon. Governor Aregbesola symbolises the new dawn for the people of Osun for turning round the poorly and thoroughly mismanaged government; the run down school system, the collapsed health care delivery system and the comatose infrastructure across the state. Osun electorate will be asking both the PDP and Labour Party, LP candidates alike to point to what their contributions have been to the state since the state was created. Both Senator Iyiola Omisore and Alhaji Fatai Akinbade have been straddled at the seat of power in the last 15 years of the nation’s democracy. While Senator Omisore was Deputy Governor and a Senator, Alhaji Akinbade was one time Secretary to the State Government. It is going to be a day of reckoning for political hawks who rule the rust of power in Osun State to the detriment of the electorate whose backs and resources catapulted them to Olympia heights. There will be no room for baring stale charlotte as a bait to swindle the people of their rights to chose who governance them. •Ikhide wrote from Lagos. http://thenationonlineng.net/new/when-ilesha-environs-defied-downpour-for-aregbesola/

Ahead of the 2015 general elections, the Forum of Local Government Chairmen in the Ogun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has warned aspirants and their backers against name-dropping. The forum spoke against the backdrop of the outbursts of Chief Alani Bankole, the father of the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Dimeji Bankole, who stormed a recent meeting of the forum where he boasted that President Goodluck Jonathan and the National Chairman of our great party, Alhaji Ahmadu Adamu Mu’azu, asked his son to join the governorship race, adding that they had promised to give him an automatic ticket. In a statement issued yesterday and signed by the Chairman of the PDP in the Abeokuta South Local Government Area and Chairman of the forum, Hon. Kehinde Sofenwa, the group said, “The elder Bankole’s conduct is unbecoming of an elder and a democrat. We urge him and his son to follow the due process and not seek to usurp constituted authority.” The statement reads in part: “We recall that some months ago, they were going about to say that the President and the National Chairman had assured them that the authentic and legally constituted state exco of our party would be dissolved. But till date, nothing of such has happened. Rather, the party, under the leadership of our able Chairman, Engr. Adebayo Dayo, is waxing stronger. “Much as we shudder to think if it is the younger Bankole that is in the race or the father, we wish to state without mincing words that all these are unfounded. They have no basis in fact and in reality. “If anything, his comments showed clearly that he has not been in touch with the party in the state. Otherwise, he would have known that the party has been restructured from the ward, local government and state levels, such that its structures are in the firm control of the respective leaders and elders. “The days when one powerful man sits in the comfort of his bedroom to determine what happens elsewhere are gone for good. That was what was ably demonstrated with the primary election in Ekiti State. “On the purported assurances they claimed to have got from the President and National Chairman, our simple reaction is that we are not deceived. We do not need anyone to tell us that our amiable President and the cool- headed National Chairman are sticklers for due process and respecters of the rule of law. “They have shown time and again that they would never lend themselves to lawlessness and illegalities. Having seen the gains of a free and transparent primary, as exemplified in the Ekiti election, they cannot afford to reverse the gains. We wager that a thousand Bankoles cannot change that. “We advise the Bankoles to come down from their high horses of living in the past and face the reality on ground. This is even more so that his four years’ reign as Speaker had no positive bearing on the lives of the people of Ogun State. If they are intent on salvaging whatever is left of their political careers, they should join hands with other leaders, elders and members of the party and work for it. They should know that when they literally decided to play Nero while Rome burnt, some people stayed back and worked to keep the party together. The question is: if everybody had abandoned the party like they did, would there be a platform that they now seek to impose themselves on? “We recall with nostalgia his membership of the infamous cabal which frustrated the then Acting President Goodluck Jonathan from assuming office as the substantive President. We also recall that upon his losing his re-election bid (he could not win one local government area which makes up his Abeokuta South Federal Constituency), he colluded with the opposition to deny the South West the Speakership of the House of Representatives that was zoned to it. At press time, Chief Bankole could not be reached for comment. http://thenationonlineng.net/new/2015-stop-dropping-jonathans-muazus-names-ogun-pdp-tells-bankole/ |
