Hope this helps and sorry for the late reply. hi yeah thanks I think it will go definitely with a laptop. How did you go about your saqa? I didn't see where to upload it as a document. I am even yet to apply for it. Cheers |

shakz: Thank you, the tuition fees!! Well it depends what you call high but considering what we have around they are, between 30-40k rand. And Yes by the special grace of God I should. Try them out and moreover you might get grants/bursary when you get over there. Best of luck!!! hi Shakz... so I have filled an online application at Pretoria but having problems with the online payment... don't know if it's because I am using my phone. It just won't proceed to the part where I put my card details. Did you face this problem? I want to use a laptop to try as well |

shakz: They accept mastercards, during my application process to uni pretoria I used a GTB mastercard and it worked perfectly. Give it a try Oh many thanks for your prompt response Shakz.. Uni of Joburg don't have an option for online payment it's annoying. I am applying for a PhD programme I don't know if pretoria would have my course. |

elume2020: Hi all, Let me give my own appreciation to every comments made. I read through many comment while applying for my study permit and the information gathered here were indeed helpful. I got my study permit in August which is very unusual though i posted about it here and many seems not to believe. I am a student of the University of Johannesburg, Doorfontein Campus, a Masters student and have been here since September 9th to be precise. As I look forward many Nigerians that will be resuming come February, 2014 I wish you a successful studies here. I will advise on some little issues which i hope patrons of this forum can attest to. 1.
As you arrive your international passport is your only form of Identity, have it with you always, you practically cannot access anything without it until you have you school ID card and make sure you have both the biodata page and visa page scanned and keep it in you email should it get missing for any reason. but please try as much as possible to keep it safe. 2. You cannot get entry into the school without your international passport if your school ID has not be provided yet so have it with you always. 3. you cannot open a bank acount without your international passport, proof of accommodation (letter of residence, document of agreement of tenancy or any legitimate agreement for tenancy) and a proof of school registration note letter of admission is not accepted. 4. in the first few weeks of resumption it is adviced to be with all your documents each time you report to school, also make a photocopy of every document you receive for your personal keeps. 5. if you have to arrive campus early probably for registration, please make sure the sun is out if you have to go through Bree, wandarers and such places. 6. Try as much as possible to make arrangement for your accommodation in advance accommodation gets expensive during this season of admission. 7. The closer you are to school main campus the higher the rent just as it operate in Nigeria. also depending on the size of the room.
I live at Twickenham avenue at Auckland Park, close to UJ APK capmus and Campus square mall and i pay R2,200 for rent which covers the rent, power and water. If you have a phone with a map it will be an added advantage, but once you arrive you can register with Rea Vaeya Joburg City Bus but you will need a route map to know how the buses navigate but you can ask at the bus station and you will be directed on what code of buses and station you have to alight and change buses. 8. You can come with you Nigeria Drivers Licence if you have one and you have the luxury to own a car, I don't. but you will need what is called a traffic register. Driving is the other way round here, sorry i don't know the right word but they drive the opposite direction against how we drive in Nigeria so please for you safety until you get used to the driving convention look both right and left and where possible walk on the zebra crossing.
I was almost knocked down because i was look at the road as if it was a Nigerian road unknown to me the traffic was coming from the other end. but over time i got used to it. 9. If you have to use public transport, I will encourage you not to seat in the front seat where the driver is, In Joburg, the passenger at the front collects all fares and gives change then hands over the balance to the driver, you might be so unfortunate that the driver is Zulu and speaks only Zulu. In Cape Town the have a bus conductor but you have to open your ears wide apart to hear where they are heading to. If you are lost, walk up to a Police officer and politely ask for direction, possibly write where you are going in a piece of paper as your pronouciation might be completely wrong and they might not think on your behalf. I have spent time both in Johannesburg and Cape Town. Actually Joburg is in Gauteng Province and these Major Institutions are located there UJ, UniSA, Wits, UP. Western Cape (Cape town, Stellenbosh, UWC, UCP).
If your destination is cape town, you will have to get another plane from OR'Tambo airport to Cape Twon. By road, Cape town is about 1400km by road, so be ready for a roughly 15hours journey. Pretoria, UniSA can be connected by Gautrain. On a final note on this session please be weary of who pick you up from the airport if you don't have a plan. whatever currency you have there is a beurea de change within the airport. If i have any further information i will update you guys here. Please my info is majorly for students First degree, masters and PhD but can be useful to every other category. I still owe so much gratitude to patrons of this forums. One Love, drop you questions here. Hello Thanks for the insight.... mine is a a kind request/question. Please I am applying to UJ for my PhD which will be at the Doorfrontaine campus as well. I don't know how to pay for my application fees as I am in Nigeria. The application is 200 Rand and I need the proof to accompany my application form. Deadline is 30th October. Please help |
