TravelRe: General UK Visa Enquiries - Part 5 by deevah(f):
Good day all. Apologies if this has been asked already, the thread is so long.

I know someone who recently got a UK visit visa denial. I helped in his process because I myself had gotten the visa before. This is his first UK visa but he has travelled to 2 African countries in the past.

He was denied on some grounds that I will mention later, but first a background.

He was selected to go for a training in June. Flights and accommodation are fully covered by the organising body. (He attached the selection letter that detailed this point). The only costs he anticipated was feeding/miscellaneous which he earmarked 400 gbp for. For this, he attached his personal statement.

Now, he is employed and earns about 400k from his 9 - 5, but he has other income from side hustles/freelance which he stated as he needed to explain deposits of large sums of money (usually larger than his monthly income by 2x or 3x sometimes, but it is sporadic) apart from the monthly salary into his account. He wrote an explanation of finances letter, detailing every transaction above 100k in his account statement. His wife also sent him the sum of 500k as travel support. This was clearly indicated in the transfer as travel support. I also asked her to write a letter where she mentioned she is his spouse and had also sent him 500k for the trip. He also explained all these in his personal statement.

He added his employment letter, payslips, letter of acknowledgement from his employer (where they mentioned they were aware of his trip and his return date), letter from his bank. His wife didn't attach her statement because she sent him the money already and sent a letter to that effect.

He was denied on the following grounds:

"You have indicated that your sponsor (your spouse) will pay 500000.00 NGN (£232.68) towards the cost of your trip. Whilst you have submitted various documents in regards to your own financial circumstances, the documents you have provided do not demonstrate your sponsor’s personal or financial circumstances. I am therefore not satisfied that your sponsor can and will provide you with support for the intended duration of your stay.
Furthermore, you have also declared on your VAF that you are in receipt of  xNGN a year (£x) in additional income (I redacted the amount) . However, there are no references to the additional income in the transaction history of your bank account or information provided by you that demonstrates how the additional income is derived and therefore without further information I have been unable to determine if you are in receipt of this additional income. Therefore, I’m not satisfied that your financial circumstances are as you have declared on your VAF.
I have made careful consideration of your family ties to both the UK and your home country. In making my consideration, I note the statements made by you in your visa application form regarding the presence of your spouse. However, I note that the information provided with your application does not support your statements, the presence of your dependants in your home country or elsewhere, nor their dependency upon you. This, in conjunction with the concerns relating to your economic ties stated above, gives me reason to further doubt that you will depart the UK at the end of the period stay"

Mistakes I think we made:
When asked who was paying towards his trip in the form, he wrote his wife, that's why I believe she was looked at as sponsor. They expected her bank statement too.

I don't understand the additional income statement as he clearly stated where the extra monies came from in his explanation of finances.

I also don't understand the family ties part because he attached his marriage certificate and mentioned he has his extended family in Nigeria as reasons why he will return.

Next steps:
He needs to reapply as the training is in June and he has to attend.
This time around I'm thinking of advising him to use his employer as a sponsor (employer is willing according to him) for any miscellaneous costs and not include anything about his personal finances like bank statement. The flights and accommodation are already covered by the body organising the training.

Should he state he has Dependents this time around? He did the last time and see what the ECO said above.

Please, I need advice from the house as he's disappointed.
I submitted similar documents to his in the past and got my visa, that's why I am surprised at this denial.

I'll be following to answer questions as well.

Thank you.

tshegs19: Get a computer system with BlackBerry Link installed on it. Plug your phone using USB to the system. The blackberry link should start-up automatically & detect your device. Click on 'Reload Software'.

That should solve the problem.

But if the BlackBerry Link fails to detect your phone, even after you open it yourself. Sis, Your phone is Dead. Just get another.
I think it's dead...tried BB Link a few times...didn't work. Thanks though.

KenJADE: Just a hunch but you could try plugging it into your computer. With battery, then without battery.
I've tried that so many times....even went as far as reloading my OS when it was still responding. Now it's just dead...LED doesn't even blink when I plug it in, with or without battery.

Christianity EtcRe: Mandela In Hell??? by deevah(op): 9:19pm On Dec 07, 2013
cbrass: Well If mandela was never a christian and I mean a thoroughly born-again christain..hmmm where do you expect him to be now?? GOD is not man He doesn't think the way we do.
True. That fact can't be disputed at all. But notice how the article turned into an Africa bashing one? This, in my opinion, isn't the kind of article a "Christian" should write. Besides, whether a person makes heaven or not is not for us humans to judge and analyse.
Christianity EtcMandela In Hell??? by deevah(op): 8:28pm On Dec 07, 2013
Stumbled upon this article and decided to share. I don't know if a thread has already been opened for it. Enjoy:

Greetings True Christians!
Today Nelson Mandela, former president of South Africa, ended his worldly life and entered the depths of Hell. Mandela was an unsaved heathen, and died without knowing the Lord. Not only did Mandela influence American Demoncrat Barack Hussein Obama, but he also practiced a heathen African tribal religion. Unfortunately, while Mandela did some great things for the nation of South Africa by ending apartheid, Heaven is like an exclusive club, unsaved unwelcome. Mandela died unsaved, and is therefore not welcome in Heaven.

Nelson Mandela was also influenced by Darwinism and Communism! Mandela was an avid reader of Marx in the 1950s, and everybody knows that God hates Communists! Mandela allied himself with Communists and heathen Indian Gandhi, who is also in Hell. Instead of seeking a Christian approach to freedom from apartheid, Mandela instead turned entirely to heathens. In fact, Mandela and Gandhi even are rumored to have engaged in rampant homosexual acts with each other while planning protests!
Mandela was also friendly toward Muslims, God’s hated people! Mandela was linked to the American Civil Rights movement, and many members of this movement were Muslims. Know what the Muslims did after they got African Americans equal rights? They crashed airplanes into buildings and started sectarian wars in the Middle East. Nelson Mandela was allied with these heathen scum, and is now being punished for his earthly mistakes.
Tonight I watched many news stations. On every channel, they showed Africans lining the streets of South Africa, doing happy dappy heathen dances, perhaps in hopes that the voodoo rain god might look with favor upon the soul of Mandela. Unfortunately, these savages are of the same cloth as Mandela. Nelson Mandela may have been a great AFRICAN nature, but by world standards, he was rather lacking. But alas, this is the best that Africa can do. Africa is a heathen continent filled with heathens, and it is no wonder that God allowed the people of Africa to be enslaved.
I implore those Africans still living to reject the sinful ways of Nelson Mandela and embrace Christianity so that they might not follow Mandela into Hell. Let us pray for the Africans, out of love. Dear Lord Jesus Christ, please lead the Africans away from heathen religions and to You. Please lead the Africans to Christianity so that they may stop being punished with AIDS, poverty, and dirty water, and so that they may avoid the fate of Nelson Mandela and avoid being cast into hell. This we pray in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.
A heartfelt Christian messages from your friends,

Jim Solouki and Martin Baker

Please o, Walcolm or anybody that can help...I've been trying to update to 10.2 without success. I've tried updating via BB link and web (no wifi atm) and everytime it stops before it gets to 20%. It keeps saying error! huh I updated to 10.1 without issues at all! angry
PhonesRe: Blackberry 10 Devices Home: Z10, Q10 Etc by deevah(f): 4:50pm On Oct 24, 2013
walcolm: It's not glo, the device has built in breaks to help you not burn your data downloading updates because the updates could be large. if your data cap is low, you might end up exhausting it and still not finish downloading

To remove the breaks, go to BlackBerry World, swipe down from the top. Select setting and tap network and data limits

Set the two options you see there to remove limits
Ohh...okay. Thanks

Please, does anyone know why Glo (that's the network I use, haven't tried any other) doesn't allow download of OS updates? This happened with 10.1...it's happening again. I just want to know why...I called their BlackBerry customer care and the guy I spoke to couldn't help at all. So....does anyone know? huh

walcolm: hi deevah,

the problem is a two-pronged problem...on the one hand, the BB10 OS is a completely new OS, it has some teething problems and on the other, the Nigerian telephony system is a bit unorganized as opposed to what you have in developed countries

what then happens is this, when you save a number with this format +234-8XX-XXXXXXX, any text message you receive will show the name of the contact but when you receive a call from that contact, the name does not show.....but when you save your contact with the local format 080XXXXXXXX, when you get a call, the name shows but when you receive a text, the name does not show

more matured mobile OS platforms have been able to resolve that problem and i expect t will be resolved soon on the BB10 OS
Hmmm. Okay. When I saved the numbers using the local format, the names didn't show when those numbers called, but I've changed them to the +234-8XX-XXXXXXX format and it works like you said . Anyway, thank you for your reply. I guess we'll just have to wait and hope it is resolved soon.

Hi guys. Since I got my Z10, I've been having problems saving phone numbers. When I save a phone number, and receive a call from that number, it doesn't reflect. I was hoping that this problem will be solved when I upgraded to the latest official os available, but it's still happening.
It's so frustrating because I can't start memorizing all numbers I receive calls from cry. I'm very grateful for finding this thread and for what you guys have been doing. I hope someone here will be able to help me solve this issue. Thanks a lot. smiley cool

stanhanks: This morning I just decided to check if there's any software update available. Noticed that Glo had pushed the 10.1.0.2312 update. It's about time grin been waiting for MTN for a long time now. So my fellow Z10ners, if you've not already updated to 10.1 just pop a Glo sim card and check for the update
I'm currently using a glo sim with my z10 but I'm still on 10.0.... When I search for updates, it shows me the 10.1. but tells me that the update is too large to be downloaded over my network, that I should connect to wifi (its about 300mb). Please I need to know how to go around this problem cuz I have no wifi around me.
