cyif2003: I did my inspection and I passed but they said they don't have d original road certificate paper. Where did you do your inspection? A friend of mine is in the same shoe with you. When I did my own inspection in April, I paid extra (tip) to get the original certificate. Other car owners can afford to use just that paper, but as an ehailing driver, you need to tell them ahead that you need the certificate. What you'll do is to go back there, talk to one of the workers there, explain that you need it for your work, and show readiness to part with some money. Unfortunately, that's the Nigeria we find ourselves. |

apexquest: Hello gurus in the house, I need help and guidance. Recently I noticed that in the morning when I want to leave the house, the car will hesitate to move after I have put it in drive 'D'. After about 4 to 5 seconds, it will engage sometimes with a jerk and begin to move. For the remaining part of the day it will not do it again untill the next day. It happens every morning and whenever I have left the car for several (over 5 to 6) hours.
It's a 2008 Rav4.
What do I need to check or attend to, please.?? Does the "R" work immediately? My car does the same thing but R works immediately, no jerking and when I raise the car, it engages immediately. 2006 Toyota Corolla |
Nairaland General › My Once Viral Nairaland Post. by DEGREE2466(op): 6:26am On May 18 |
You cannot know what will work until you try. This story is to encourage people to take action even when people close to you think you can't do it or it's not worth it.
In 2014 when I was in 200 level in the university, I wrote an article titled "12 types of students you will meet in night classes". Before publishing it on Nairaland, I showed it to one of my classmates then who read it and told me that the article didn't make any sense, isn't interesting to read, didn't sound polished, as such, that I should not waste my time publishing it.
I felt discouraged somehow but I went ahead to publish it nevertheless. That article got 428 likes, 48 shares, and 12 pages of comments on nairaland.
It didn't stop there. Several blogs lifted the article word-for-word and published it on their blog sites. Some nairaland members copied the article from those blogs several years after and posted it on nairaland back without knowing that the article originated from nairaland. If you search the article title on Google, you'll never find my own topic because people continued to post the article up to 2017. Obviously, Google algorithms prioritise recent contents over older ones.
The time I felt like a king was when an executive member of my faculty printed the article on a paper and pasted it in front of the faculty board where results were displayed as at that time.
I sent the article to an undergraduate in 2026 and she told me that she could relate so well with all the points in the article. What that means is that an article I wrote in 2014 is still relevant and relatable in 2026 and beyond.
I never saw the article going that viral. I was discouraged from posting it because it didn't seem interesting, but I went ahead to publish it and the result was unexpected.
Don't wait for approval or validation before you take that action. The best results that we get happen to be on the things we put in less thought about perfection.
Follow me for more human-written interesting contents.

Travel › Re: 10 Things You Should Know About Enugu by DEGREE2466(m): 5:02am On May 17 |
Rapmoney: I spent about 10 years working in Enugu as a project manager in the education sector, and during my 10 year-professional journey, I learnt certain things about the town. This can help you towards planning if you want to relocate to Enugu.
1. Traffic Laws: Traffic laws are very strict in Enugu. You dare not park your car by the side on a major road. You dare not beat traffic lights positioned in almost all parts of the town. If you do, your vehicle will be towed to MOT office or you pay huge fines. Dem nor dey hear 'Abeg'.
2. Relaxed Attitude: The people have a relaxed attitude. They don't rush when doing things. It is common for people to sit in a town-service bus for more than 30 minutes in Enugu, waiting for passengers to fill the bus. My first year in Enugu was uncomfortable because it is something different from what I was used to in Warri. You do not see people rushing to work in the morning, even bankers. Everyone seems to do it slow slow.
3. Peacefulness: Enugu is one of the most peaceful towns in Nigeria. During my 10-year stay, I did not hear or witness any inter-communal clash or anything similar. In fact, I really did not see anyone fighting publicly, except verbal clashes (quarrelling) on few occasions.
4. The Women: Enugu has the most beautiful women in Nigeria. It is only closely followed by Owerri. Out of every 10 young women you see, 6 would be pretty, and the rest might actually look presentable. My neck and my head had a quarrel the first day I landed in Enugu. My neck said my head was stressing it too much, because of the constant turning and looking. As a man, you need to be focused or else, you will get distracted if you allow the beauty of the women to overwhelm you.
5. Enugu is an 'Oringo' Town: You must have heard the singer, Flavour called Enugu 'Oringo' in some of his songs. Oringo is a slang in southeast Nigeria which means 'party'. Enugu is a place where more money is spent than it is made. From Cubana to Toscana, from Trans-Ekulu to Abakpa, from GRA to Independence Layout, from Agbani to Obiagu, it is all about Oringo. Forget it. Enugu is the only place you can see beer parlours and bars opened from morning till night, with people drinking during working hours on weekdays. About 60% of alcohol in southeast is consumed in Enugu.
6. Okpa and Pepsi: In Enugu, they don't joke with Okpa and Pepsi. Okpa is a local food made from Bambara beans. N500 Okpa and one chilled Pepsi will go a long way for the average man on the street. Don't play.
7. Beware of Abakpa at Night: Abakpa is the largest area in Enugu town. It is owned by the Nike people of Enugu-East LGA. It is a place where you find the good, the bad, and the ugly. They are called Abakpa Ndi Nti Ike for a reason. When interpreted in English, it means the set of people that are stubborn and do not heed to advice. Abakpa is a place you can get the cheapest accommodation in Enugu if you are a beginner. It is also a place you need to be careful and mind your business. Nor dey waka waka for inside Abakpa for night, or else boys wey nor get joy go help you keep your property for you.
8. Choice Areas to Live: If you are financially buoyant, the best places to stay in Enugu with good security and road networks, beautiful environment, and magnificent buildings are Trans-Ekulu, Independence Layout, and GRA.
9. Water Issues: Enugu is a hilly place. It is good for hikers, but one issue that the town usually face is water shortage due to the topography. I hope the current governor, Barrister Peter Ndubuisi Mbah will address that soon.
10. Always Cook at Home on Sundays: If you are a bachelor or spinster, make sure you get ingredients on Saturday to cook on Sunday, else na hunger go kpai you. Enugu people don't joke with Sunday relaxation and outing. No matter the profits their business is generating, they don't sacrifice their Sundays for anything. Most shops and restaurants are closed. Even shops where the owners live in same building.
I am not from Enugu State. I am from Niger Delta, so this post has been written with an unbiased view.
Happy weekend everyone!
L Oringo means enjoyment, not party. |

I carried four ladies from Surulere to Akoka. While in the car, they were discussing about men. How men are grapist, and all manner of b@d things about men. While they were talking, I did like I was not in the car with them.
With the way they were shouting, you'll know obviously that they wanted to get my attention to talk but I ignored them.
At some point, one of the ladies tapped me so hard at the back asking if I'm offended with their discussion but I said no and kept mum again.
It seems they got pained by my silence. At the end of the trip, they rated me 1 star and reported my account.

Jamie90: Areas like Yaba, Shomolu, Ajao, Bariga etc are not dead zones. Short trips in this areas pay better on indrive.
No one can make 50k driving on any platform now. Let’s be realistic, your gross earning on a trip on bolt is a little less than what an average negotiator gets on indrive. Currently, uber consistently offers me less than what I will get on a trip if I did it on indrive. Indrive is only bad in areas where there are too many drivers.
Go to those areas I mentioned and analyse the prices you see carefully. Getting a request on Indrive with good pay is possible in the places you mentioned, simply because it always surges on Bolt in those areas. So, instead of a rider to pay 6000 on Bolt, they would pay 5600 on Indrive. The Indrive driver makes more money because of lower commission. So, at the end of the day, Bolt determines whether you'll get a better price on Indrive. Go to Ikeja and see the ridiculous price people are willing to take on Indrive to come to places like Shomolu, Yaba, Surulere. |

dav1002: You cannot profit 6m in 6months from doing this cabu cabu work
CNG or no CNG sir. Be guided It depends on family responsibility and quality of the car. If within the 6 months, there are less down times, 3 million is achievable at 500k saving a month. It's very easy to net 30k daily after fuel and commission. 30x6=180k 180x4=720k. So saving 500k monthly is easy with less family responsibility. You can target 1 million to 1.5 million in the month of December. So in conclusion, 3 million is achievable in 6 months. |

NB: If u know u are at fault, U have to cook and add salt and Maggi very well o. He didn't state if he was right or the rider was. Even if he reports first, he will still be suspended if he's at fault, especially with strong evidence from the rider, in the case of a physical injury. |

TUBLEZ: but this is daylight robbery What these app companies do is to come and enter the market with fair policies to attract drivers. Once they've had enough drivers, every staff meeting they have is on how to frustrate drivers. Indrive has increased their commission, takes your money whether the trip happened or not, always side riders and blocks drivers arbitrarily. |

Pearl1910: They only way ur money will come back is if u cancel within 2mins of accepting with "No Longer interested to do the trip". Or u arrive and wait 5mins then cancel with passenger didn't show.
In all this, never call the rider. Ones u call, ur money is gone except it's d rider that cancels What if the rider calls? I feel this thing is theft and I might make a video to post online to call Indrive out. This shouldn't be. As far as they can use their system to confirm that the trip did not happen, why are they collecting my money. And if that rider books again, they'll still collect commission from the next driver. |

Glithronix: Dey play. When I no be Superman wey dey save lives. Pray make person no go pick person for hospital make something come happen. Last week, I saw one ride for my area going to a hospital and it was super juicy, I still increased the price and the rider accepted immediately. I quickly called the rider to be sure he was real - I was hearing someone groaning in pain underground and the rider was telling me to hurry up and start coming. Baba, I ended the call and cancelled the ride immediately. God won't judge me for that. Not that I have not picked or dropped riders at hospitals before, but I always called immediately to confirm who I wan pick. Can't even remember the last time I picked or dropped off at a hospital. Make we dey always careful in this hustle oh (hmmmm).
Much respect, baba. There's nothing wrong in carrying someone in agony or pain. The sick person could be you someday. Let's try to be human sometimes. I would have rushed to that hospital to provide emergency services to the riders. This life eeh, try and have contacts with people that own cars. Because someone that owns one car is just one car fault away from being carless. Around February, my pregnant sister who has been in the hospital for months due to the complication of her pregnancy was overdue for delivery. Unfortunately, the husband's car spoilt that period. I had to step in and rush her to the hospital,. Before we could get to the hospital, the baby was almost dead, and my sister was battling for her life. Unfortunately, the baby was brought out but he couldn't make it. It took hours of operation to save my sister's life. Now, imagine if we were trying to get a ride and drivers were cancelling on us. capetownboyz: we need to talk about selfishness that exist in this job towards riders and drivers ..I took a trip from Ikeja gra to awoyaya late in the evening around 4pm , though I didn’t realize what I signed up for but if anything my last experience going through that Ajah the gridlock nearly questioned my mental state ..I took this trip hoping to make some money for the day and i haven’t driven to such area before but bolt made me so ..I met the rider at the pickup location and my mind was telling me cancel this trip ,it is too far and it’s already evening and you might get stuck in traffic and I will start lamenting which I did on our way cause we were half way to awoyaya along the costal road that was yet unpaved ,I drove through the rough road my vehicle was literally vibrating through the gravel lol and she was complaining if my vehicle doesn’t have shock absorber ..We’ve gone pass sangotedo, I asked the rider Omo this your location is far oo haven’t we reached yet ,I was met with a reply ,I’m unprofessional if knew the place was far or didn’t know about the location why did I accept the trip ,why didn’t I cancel the ride..she chose her selfishness over me and she is more concerned with me getting her home safe ,while I will need to figure how to get back to Ikeja cause I hate traffic and I don’t want to be stuck in one ..Well I was fortunate enough not to meet traffic on my way back and we settled 25k for the trip ..rode back home from awoyaya to Ikeja but mehn my body was vibrating and I felt the stress I just put myself through cause I was chasing gains in this business ..so sometimes choose your feelings over this riders cause at the end of the day it’s your story to tell and you will pay the consequences for not listening to your feelings when things go wrong .. What would you have had the rider do? The end result of every ride is take the rider home safely. And when you accept a trip, you are expected to compete it. That's not being selfish. If for anything, you might be the one trying to act selfish by wanting to accept a trip, get the agreed amount without fulfilling your own side of the bargain. Imagine picking Awoyaya from Ikeja by 4pm. What were you expecting? |

Pearl1910: This analysis is funny, How can the trips be useless and worthless if they made u go home with more money? Better drop this kain mentality, u go out to work and make money not to be sentimental and emotional. I understand ur point that u rather sit tight and wait for good trips than go for rubbish trips, but we have to be careful that in selecting good trips, we are not being greedy or foolishly ignoring "okay" trips. Sometimes two average trips are better than one good long trip. E.g Ojodu to Ikeja 4k, Ikeja to Yaba 4k, Yaba to VI 4k. These are average trips but I am sure to many people, a perfect trip would be Ojodu to VI 8k.
The point is, all other things being equal, any set of trips that gives me more money take home is no longer useless and worthless. This was my argument but someone said they should school me. Any waiting that makes me go home with lesser amount, simply because I was waiting for the perfect trip is a wasted time. It is the end that justifies the means. A lost one hour waiting for the perfect trip can only be compensated by an extra one hour from your normal closing time. No guarantee that the perfect trip will even come. |

In this business, I reject trips based on 3 factors 1. The pickup distance 2. The drop off location 3. The price.
If the two check out and the price did not, I go no where. Imagine from Eyo street in Shomolu to Oba Akinjobi Way, Ikeja GRA for 2700. Like, I will wake up in the morning and start my day with a 2700 trip. No way!

A trip that has a stop is 1500. How much will it be without a stop. Can keke be booked to and fro for 1500 after calculating the passenger seats plus the extra fee for coming to your house to carry you.
Bolt is messing with drivers because of their useless bonus. That's why any week they push my daily bonus number to 15 trips, I will never chase it because the loss and mental stress outweighs the 13k bonus money attached to the bonus.
I dare Bolt to cease giving drivers bonus and see if anyone will accept these pitiful prices 7

Jegheter: Exactly. One has to be very strategic this period and one strategy is waiting PATIENTLY for good trips. Just waiting. The wait is worth it. Worth your mental health that's for sure Waiting for too long may not worth it. You go home with less amount feeling exhausted as same time you worked very well. Remember, this job works with timing. A person that went out for two days and earned 30k each is better than someone that went out in a single day and earned 50k without working the next day. Time lost can never be regained. I don't work beyond 7pm, so I try to maximise my day time. Except for people that don't mind working until they meet their target even if it means closing by 10 to 11pm. |

I advised him against it but he disregarded my advice and went ahead to try to get into a relationship with the girl. What this girl did was to use him to be getting free foods and free rides. Only calls him when she's hungry and stranded. Until my guy got fed up with her antics and moved on with his life. Why I always advise against engaging riders in any form of relationship is because it will take a lot of maturity for them to see you beyond "their Bolt driver". I will rather use the same energy to go after a girl I met on a different occasion. |

I have been complaining that my car consumes more fuel because I use 15k fuel to net 45 to 50k before now. But right now, I use 15 to 18k fuel to net just 35k. The problem we have in this business right now are those drivers that use smaller engine cars. Those Suzuki, Yaris, etc. I was at Yaba and was surprised the ridiculous prices drivers were accepting. So I decided to put out a request to see if someone would accept. To my surprise, a driver was willing to drive from Montgomery road to Maryland mall for 2800. Now that Indrive commission has gone up, what that means is that he's willing to earn 2400 for such trip. Some drivers are just impossible. Unfortunately, we don't have control over who accepts what. You either join them in accepting the ridiculous prices or change hustle... That's the reality. Insisting on getting a ride with a good price will mean staying at a place for too long which will cause you more back pain and tiredness, plus the heat under the sun. I've noticed that staying in the car for long without driving is even more painful than driving around.

cyif2003: Uber wey ho give u 18k trip. Collect 8k give u 10k. I mostly look at Uber net and not gross. This is because Uber uses the next driver to collect unresolved payment like cancellation fee. Unfortunately, they don't indicate this for the driver thus making the driver get angry on how much they're collecting vs how much they're getting as net. I once booked a ride and cancelled and Uber charged me 2600 cancellation fee. I paid it with the next driver. |
