Former President Goodluck Jonathan has been chosen to present the keynote address at the 2016 Hope Global Forums conference. The programme is scheduled to hold in the second week of January in Atlanta, United States. President Bill Clinton performed a role similar to that of Jonathan at the 2015 event which gathered over 3, 000 leaders from 40 countries. The letter of invitation was jointly signed by Andrew Young, Operation Hope global spokesman, Kasim Reed, mayor of Atlanta and John Hope Bryant, Operation Hope chief executive. They urged the former president to lend his support to an entrepreneurship mentoring programme, by sharing his experience in office with a wider global audience. “As some one recognised for his leadership and vision in Nigeria and abroad, we are personally requesting your attendance. It is important for us that your influential voice and perspective be included as we drive a global conversation,” the letter read. “We invite you to join Fortune 500 CEO’s, private investors, financial leaders and government officials to connect and collaborate on this vision. “With the theme ‘Reimagining the Global Economy: Inclusive Economics’, the annual meeting is set against the backdrop of the Martin Luther King Holiday weekend and gathers leaders from government, community and the private sector to outline a vision for the modern global; economy. “A vision where the undeserved, working poor and struggling middle class are viewed as untapped assets for economic growth, entrepreneurship and job creation. “The powerful history of Atlanta as the ‘Cradle of the Civil Rights Movement’ serves as a catalyst for our gathering, highlighting the unfinished work of economic self-reliance launched by Dr. King prior to his death. We will honour that legacy with a series of activities for our guests, including ‘white glove’ viewing of Dr. King’s papers.” Among the guests expected to attend the programme are: Tim Cook, Apple chief executive; Jack Lew, US treasury secretary; Robert Rubin, former treasury secretary, and Clinton Foundation vice-chair Chelsea Clinton. The Hope Global Forum is an annual event that convenes thousands of thought leaders, business professionals and public policy officials from many countries to brainstorm on ways of advancing the social and economic well-being of all people around the world. According to the organisers, the 2016 meeting focuses on broadening inclusiveness for global economies. http://www.thetrentonline.com/president-jonathan-succeeds-clinton-as-keynote-speaker-at-top-global-conference-6/?utm_source=&utm_medium=twitter

Eaglets skipper Kelechi Nwakali at the recent U17 World Cup in Chile and re-awarded it to compatriot Samuel Chukwueze after a mistake. In a letter to the NFF general secretary, Mohammed Sanusi, and signed by Mustapha Fahmy, director of the football division, FIFA admitted their blunder: “We made a mistake at the closing ceremony of the FIFA U-17 World Cup Chile 2015 with the distribution of the adidas Bronze Boot. “Instead of player no. 8 of Nigeria, Samuel Chukwueze, the player Kelechi Nwakali (player no. 10 of Nigeria) received the adidas Bronze Boot. However, if two or more players are still equal (after goals and assists), the player who has played fewer number of minutes will be ranked first. “With this in mind, adidas will send you another Bronze Boot in December 2015, which we would kindly ask you to hand over to Samuel Chukwueze. Please be informed that Kelechi Nwakali may keep his trophy.” Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen scored 10 goals and made two assists to win the Golden Boot, while Johannes Eggestein of Germany scored four goals to win the Silver Boot. Nwakali, who was voted Most Valuable Player of the Tournament and earned the Golden Ball, tied with compatriot Chukwueze for third place with three goals and three assists. However, Nwakali played more minutes (630 minutes) as against Chukwueze’s 535 minutes. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/12/fifa-withdraws-eaglets-skipper-award/

A group by the name, Kogi United Forum has called on the Inspector General of Police to commence immediate investigation into what it described as the suspected assassination of Prince Abubakar Audu a former governor of Kogi State and gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the November 21, gubernatorial election in Kogi State. The group in a statement signed by its National President, Tunde Aina is accusing the National Leader of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu of allegedly masterminding the assassination of the late Audu. Audu, it was gathered started vomiting blood shortly after casting his vote on Saturday and sharing a meal with the APC National Leader, Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Lokoja. Audu eventually passed on at about 6 am on Sunday morning while election results were being collated. Efforts by his family members to make the news public was truncated as Tinubu advised against it on the premise that it could work against the APC, should his death be announced early. Tinubu, for whatever intents and purposes was hoping Audu would be announced winner after which his running mate, Hon. Abiodun Faleke, a member of the House of Representatives, representing Ikeja Federal Constituency of Lagos State who was single-handedly handpicked by Tinubu as Audu’s running mate would then be declared governor. The question we are asking is simple: who would have been the biggest beneficiary of the death of Audu seeing that he was already reported to be leading the polls and coasting home to victory? The Kogi United Forum smells a huge rat in the untidy events that have played out in the death of Audu and therefore demands the following: “The immediate investigation of the death of Abubakar Audu as a case of cold-blooded murder and political assassination. “That the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu be immediately arrested by the Nigerian Police and investigated thoroughly for the murder of Audu.” Signed Tunde Aina National President Kogi United Forum http://www.thetrentonline.com/political-assassination-kogi-group-calls-for-arrest-of-tinubu-over-abubakar-audus-murder/?utm_content=buffer5d963&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter.com&utm_campaign=buffer |
