Human right activist and the convener of #RevolutionNow protest, Omoyele Sowore, on Thursday, 26th September commenced a contempt suit against the Director-General of the Department of State Service (DSS), Yusuf Bichi, for allegedly disobeying the order granting him bail. Justice Taiwo Taiwo of the Federal High Court in Abuja had on Tuesday granted bail to Sowore, who has been arrested and kept in the custody of the DSS since August 3, 2019, on the allegation of calling for “revolution” through the protest that was scheduled for September 5. Tanko Muhammad, the Chief Justice of Nigeria, has said that the judiciary under his watch will strongly hold on to the tenets of the constitution as the Supreme law of the land. He reiterated his commitment to ensuring obedience of court orders. Justice Muhammad said this on Monday at the special session to mark the beginning of the 2019 to 2020 legal year. Presidential Tribunal on Wednesday dismissed the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) motion arguing that Atiku’s lead counsel, Livy Uzoukwu, is not a legal practitioner called to the Nigerian Bar. The tribunal held that INEC’s allegation is unfounded and that Uzoukwu was indeed called to the Nigerian Bar. The tribunal also ruled that the lead counsel of the PDP was conferred senior advocate of Nigeria (SAN) in 1992, and proceeded to strike out the motion as filed by INEC. The grounds of the INEC’s motion is that the petitioners’ lead counsel, Livy Uzoukwu (SAN), who signed the petitioners’ list of witnesses and other documents was not on the roll of lawyers kept by the Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court and as such cannot practise law in Nigeria. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Enugu Zonal Office, said it has arrested 13 Internet fraudsters popularly known as "Yahoo Boys". Cars, laptops among other valuables were recovered from the suspected internet fraudsters.
