I need you to do an experiment. Wear a Buhari T-shirt through the streets of Lagos and see how many approval and salutation you will get from total strangers. You can easily be overwhelmed by the cry of ‘change’ people throw your way not to count the thumb up and the smile. You should also be prepared for people you don’t know extending their support to you, from motorists slowing down to allow you cross the road to airport workers taking you to an automated system where you can easily check-in without having to queue. Dr Okolo Oteri and I were beneficiaries of the goodwill that comes with identifying with the Buhari brand in Lagos when on Saturday we wore our newly acquired Buhari T-shirts from the venue of a meeting we both attended to the MMI Airport. We were pleasantly surprised when people started waving our ways immediately we stepped out of the hotel. We benefited from the goodwill I had described above, from total strangers to airport workers in Lagos and Abuja when we landed. I got quite a few handshakes too and made new acquaintances from the couple of conversations spurred by the T-shirts. This is what I take away from my personal experience. People are excited to identify with Buhari, they are proud of it and ever ready to show their excitement. And Lagos is for Buhari. Definitely. Oga Ade, apologies to Abiyamọ, is just wasting his time, money and ministerial slot trying to ‘capture’ Lagos. It is too late.
