Career / World Bank & Education Ministry Trains 500 Abuja Youth On Information Security by dellin: 5:43pm On Dec 11, 2023
THE WORLD BANK AND FEDERAL MINISTRY OF EDUCATION THROUGH THE IDEAS PROJECT AND CYBER 30-30 TO TRAIN FIRST BATCH OF 500 INFORMATION SECURITY EXPERTS IN FCT ABUJA FOR FREE. INTERNSHIP, MENTORSHIP AND JOB PLACEMENT TO BE PROVIDED

Research indicates that there is a huge gap in Information Security Experts in Nigeria. Globally, there are 4 million information and cybersecurity jobs that go unfilled around the world. With average salaries for information and cybersecurity experts hovering at a minimum of $60,000 and maximum of $350,000 annually, this obviously is a very lucrative sector.

With the extensive growth of Nigeria's Digital Economy has come increased risk of digital breach. We see this almost every day, and the nation simply just does not have enough experts to address this issue. At the same time, new government policy will place hefty fines on organizations that experience data breaches. This all means that opportunities for Information Security Experts in Nigeria will grow exponentially. The former Minister of Communication, Innovation and Digital Economy had stated that there was a gap of 50,000 Information Security Experts in Nigeria.

Global opportunities are even higher and better paid. In the dynamic realm of cybersecurity, entry-level experts globally are annually generating a substantial $60,000 salary. The opportunities in this field are not only lucrative but expansive on a global scale. Crazy intriguing right ? What if you could embark on this journey with added advantage, like special migration paths in countries such as Canada? Salaries for entry-level cybersecurity professionals are indeed enticing at $60,000 annually. But the appeal goes beyond just financial rewards. Imagine a career that opens doors to global opportunities and a chance to be part of the ever-evolving landscape of information and cyber security.

Canada, among other nations, recognizes the value of cybersecurity experts and has paved special migration paths to welcome skilled professionals. This reflects the global demand for individuals aimed at safeguarding digital landscapes. If you find this prospect appealing and reside in FCT Abuja, aged between 18 and 35, here's an opportunity that could potentially reshape your future.

World Bank and the Federal Ministry of Education through the IDEAS Project and Cyber 30-30 Program has launched a special project to create thousands of Information and Cyber Security Experts in Nigeria, starting with a Cohort in FCT Abuja. This initiative tailored for those passionate about information and cybersecurity in FCT Abuja, offers more than just a career path—it provides a transformative experience. This includes free training and certificates, internships, mentorship, business and employability development, and the promise of job placements.

Benefits to Trainees

Business / Women-owned Businesses Can Take Advantage Of N500 Billion Contract Opportunities by dellin: 12:40pm On Aug 14, 2019
In 2017, Shell Companies awarded contracts worth N240 Billion to Nigerian Companies in fulfilment of Local Content Laws. The volume of contracts awarded to Nigerian companies by Oil and Gas Multinationals is projected to be somewhere around N500 Billion annually!!! It could very well be more that this figure, this is a conservative estimate.

However, very few Women-Owned Businesses receive these contracts, in fact less than 10% of these contracts are awarded to Women-owned Businesses in Nigeria. But this is about to change.....

More and more Oil and Gas Companies have started to activate a Supplier Diversity and Inclusion (SDI) programe with the aim of including more Women-owned Businesses in their Vendor Database and offer them opportunities to bid for jobs. ExxonMobil and Chevron in Nigeria are taking this very seriously and working to get more contracts awarded to Qualified Women-owned Businesses. This is an opportunity to take advantage of a market with contracts exceeding N500 Billion.

In Nigeria, WEConnect International, a Washignton-based International Organization is responsible for identifying and registering Qualified Women-owned Businesses. Once registered with WEConnect International, you will receive Bid and RFP opportunities regularly and where your company profile is a match, be introduced directly to a major Corporate Buyer. Registration is FREE. Just follow the link provided below and Self-Register your company.

HOW WOULD THIS BENEFIT YOU?

A woman owned a small furniture production outfit in Lagos where she produced beds and similar household products. She registered with WEConnect International and attended one of their Meet The Buyer events. This is an event where Women-owned Businesses can interact with Large Corporations interested in buying products and services from them. This particular event was hosted by ExxonMobil. A representative of Dangote Group was present and took interest in the lady's products. To cut a long story short, she received a large contract to supply furniture to Dangote Group! A contract she would never have received if she had not registered with WEConnect International and had the opportunity to attend the Meet The Buyer event!!

Interestingly, many Meet The Buyer events are planned for 2019 and 2020! It would be a good idea to register with WEConnect International and benefit from the opportunity to meet with a large corporate buyer. There are also trainings being planned to help you better position your company to become a supplier to these large corporations. This is an opportunity you cannot miss.

Apart from Oil and Gas Contract opportunities, there are other buyers including Procter and Gamble, Access Bank, etc.

GROWTH OF WOMEN OWNED BUSINESSES IN NIGERIA

Women make up about 50 percent of Nigeria’s population. Statistically, of the 50 percent, about 35 percent are linked directly or indirectly with self-employment in the form of micro-businesses, small-scale and medium-scale enterprises-[MSMEs] (Odoemone, 2003). Comparatively women-owned businesses in Nigeria are growing much faster to those that are male-owned (Ekpenyong, 2014; GEM, 2012; Kermeliotis & Veselnovic, 2014). The growth trend in women-owned businesses show about 1 million in 1982 to 1.5 million in 1990. Prior to 1980, women owned 6 percent of all Nigerian businesses. Then as from 2010, the number rose to 30 % of all businesses, 50 % of all retail and 10 % of all service companies (SheLeadsAfrica, 2017; Ekpenyong, 2014).In trying to acknowledge this trend in growth of women-owned enterprises, the Enterprise Surveys (2010-2017) of the World Bank group, opine statistically for Nigeria: 16.2% representing businesses with female participation in ownership; 13.2% has majority female ownership and 13.0% of businesses have female top managers.

The impressive growth of female-owned businesses does not negate the fact that women run businesses which are smaller in size, have lower annual turnover than their male counterparts and have fewer number of personnel under employment (Carter & Shaw, 2006, Vossenberg, 2013; Etim & Iwu, 2018; UNCTAD, 2014; ADB, 2014). Generally, because of continued marginalization in accessing credit or funding, female entrepreneurs gravitate to retailing outfits within the informal economy. They start with low capitalization and become part of the informal economy where entry requirements are minimal. This sector of the economy therefore provides to these women no protection nor accountability (Etim & Iwu, 2018). Unfortunately, very few are able to become part of the formal economy with all the protection and human rights.

Business / Re: Great Opportunities For Women Owned Businesses In Nigeria!!! by dellin: 11:36am On May 21, 2019
Gender gaps in economic activities across Nigeria

Gender gaps in economic activities across Nigeria are largely explained by four main failures—discriminatory social norms, information and knowledge asymmetries, non-competitive markets, and limited gender-inclusiveness in formal and informal institutions5. Nigeria is among the top 10 percent of countries worldwide that exhibit the highest levels of gender discrimination according to the OECD’s Social Institutions and Gender Index, with an assessment of ‘high’ or ‘very high’ in all of the evaluated categories (discriminatory family code, restricted physical integrity, son bias, restricted resources and assets, and restricted civil liberties). It also falls into the group of countries with highest gender inequality in human development outcomes.

Non-functional markets severely constrain women’s economic outcomes and ability to earn a sustained income. Nigerian women have greater difficulty reaching economies of scale, which affects their competitiveness. As a result, they have limited bargaining power with suppliers and buyers, restricting their ability to earn profits or grow their businesses.

Structural and Operational Limitation in the Financial Sector
Structural and operational limitations in the financial sector also prevent women from having sustained access to finance. Over 40 percent of Nigerian adults are excluded from financial services, as banks and microfinance institutions have little to no presence in rural areas 7. Only 15 percent of women in Nigeria have a bank account 8. Financial institutions are also polarized, having a missing middle, as the banking sector is made up of highly capitalized banks in one extreme and microfinance institutions with limited capitalization on the other extreme.

Despite these issues, Female labor participation in Nigeria is estimated at around 45% while 14% of Nigerian firms have a female top manager; the regional average in Sub-Saharan Africa is 16%. Women are increasingly becoming entrepreneurs.

There is a steady growth in women enterprise in Nigeria and the potential for significant GDP increase from women enterprise inclusion.
