...that is a solid and well regulated environment. Even at that investors still need to check regularly their stocks quarterly to ensure the company's fundamentals are still intact. Stocks coming out with poor result can easily loose more than 90% of its value in less than a month on DOW due to volatility

MTN coming to the market is a good one as it will help to deepen our market. Government should encourage other big players in the teleco industry to do same. As a matter of policy, government should make a policy compelling coys with turnover over N1B to list its shares on the market. To also encourage potential coys with plans to come to the market, SEC should reduce cost of listing and multiple taxation in the capital market.

My advise to newbies is that they should not rush to buy the shares (MTN) when it's finally listed regardless of the hype and frenzy around it based on experience.
My boss, this was exactly my point. You have made my day.
Let the market expose the TRUE VALUE first.
The stock can even be bought by our grandchildren just like you can still buy FBNH even on Monday. Let time test it.
When you take care of risk, profit takes care of itself.
Thanks again for this post.
Newbies, please take this serious.
Money is MOST TIMES made before listing and you might just rush in to bail the sharks, especially with MTN's PERCULIAR LISTING.. grin

Telecommunication company,
MTN, on Friday in Abuja said it
would list its shares on the
Nigerian Stock Exchange this
year. MTN General Manager, Mr
Nikiwe Tsaagane, made this
known when he paid a courtesy
visit to Dr Ogbonnaya Onu,
Minister of Science and
Technology. Tsaagane said the efforts would
help to fast-track improvement in
the Nigerian economy. “It is going to offer important role
in the capital market as it will be
one of the largest transactions in
Africa. This will showcase Nigeria
in the global economy if we can
achieve it. “”The transaction is structured by
ensuring that it’s data based and
inclusive as we ensure that our
Nigerian customers are able to
participate,“” he said. According to him, MTN has 62
million subscribers already in
Nigeria which represents a
significant Nigerian population. He said the application processes
would be in a digitalised way as
there would be minimal utilisation
of paper. “ “So we are working with the
Nigeria Stock Exchange to
develop application platform to
make our customers be able to
apply online. “ “Here will be first place of doing
such digital application,“” he
added. He stated that Nigerian
Communication Commission and
Nigeria Stock Exchange among
others were fully in support of the
programme to realise the plan. The general manager said the
MTN would like to partner with the
ministry to enjoy its know-how
leadership. “”We will ensure that all the
stakeholders in different sectors
will be incorporated and it is
important to obtain your input,
support and guidance,“” he said. Responding, Onu said the
ministry would collaborate with
MTN as it was her culture to uplift
any brilliant idea to grow the
nation. ““We commend MTN for its
contribution to our economy. We
will support you, study your
proposal and make our own view,
“” Onu said. The minister urged MTN to do its
research and innovation in
Nigeria to make MTN group in the
nation to remain on top. (NAN)
One of the biggest scams loading....
- Jijoists will profit immensely.
- 'Investors' will have severely burnt fingers.
- MTN will collect their next ten(10) years profit from this and afterwards run the business as they like in a relaxed manner, having already banked their profit.
- Management will share loot and the business will be far from ATTRACTIVE for a good while.
- Next series of results after listing will start having exceptional items and all manners of challenges will be exaggerated with heavier than normal costs attached.... grin

Daily insight

Foreign inflows into Nigerian equities jump 403.1% in May-17

The NSE recently published its Foreign Portfolio Investment (FPI) report for May-2017. According to the report, total market transactions from January to May surged 52.6% to N715.0bn compared to same period in 2016, driven by FPI transaction which rose 73.5% y/y to N328.7bn. Similarly, FPIs YTD participation rate increased from 40.4% in 2016 to 45.9% as at May 2017 slashing domestic participation to 54.0%.

Expectedly, total transaction increased sharply in the month of May, thanks to the introduction of the I&E window by the CBN in April. FPI transactions expanded 3.2x from N22.5bn in April to N95.2bn in May. Domestic transaction also improved 38.4% in May but participation rate dropped sharply from 59.1% in April to 53.7%.

Increased FPIs transaction in the local market confirms our earlier observation that renewed foreign interest in Nigerian equities has been responsible for the recent rally in equities. According to the NSE, monthly foreign inflows to equities jumped 4x to N73.0bn in May, outpacing outflows which rose 1.7x to N22.0bn. The All Share Index is up +23.8% YTD, +12.7% MTD and +3.6% WTD. We expect performance to remain stable in the interim.
