Then why not disintegrate from the country and have one solely for yourselves. Don't you think it'll stop the unnecessary friction?

So that means any Muslim practicing Nigeria politics and democracy including you have sinned against the Sharia law and is liable for the repercussions?
Individuals don't disintegrate from a country. If you break Nigeria into 10 countries today, none of the 10 will be made up of only adherents of a faith. I'm not even sure there is a state in Nigeria today with 100% population of adherents of just one religion. There are minorities everywhere. How do you protect their interests? Breaking a country along religious lines isn't the best.
It's even selfish of you to think asking the North to go is fair. Do you think about Northern Christians? Do you think Southern Muslims won't seek the protection of their interests?
Rather, a system that protects the interest of every citizen is better.
A system that will protect Deborah Yakubu among Muslims and pregnant Harirah Jubril with her children among Christians. A system where everyone is protected and tolerated!

Your second paragraph is the intolerant you trying to dabble into what you're ignorant of. It's not correct anyways. Lolll.
Islam enjoins Muslims to respect the authorities. Nigeria is a secular state and the system of governance is democracy. This doesn't mean the basic rights of Muslims guaranteed under the same secular constitution should be trampled upon. As at today, the constitution guarantees every Nigerian freedom of belief and association. Our constitution recognizes the sharia legal system. I will implore non Christian Nigerians to tolerate the rights of their fellow countrymen as guaranteed in the constitution.
FamilyRe: How Divorce Affects Children In The North (video) by DesireV:
ChngedChnges:
Good write up. Then I ask, if there's political disputes between 2 candidates of non Christian background why don't they take it to the sharia court since the whole system is Christianized?
Firstly, shariah doesn't recognize democracy itself. Only a legal system that recognizes democracy is most appropriate to hear matters relating to it.

Secondly, it shows the motives around the kind of "shariah" being practised in some sections of the world and how it has been weaponised. There is no selective justice under the shariah law. A case where punishment is for the poor and not the elite has no place in shariah law. The elites know this and hide behind common law that's easier to be bent. I read a news of some shariah court workers who misappropriated funds of some orphans. They requested to be tried under the common law system because they know what awaits them if they met an upright shariah law judge.

@DesireV, please stop lying against your Quran. It is only women who have issues and sins when it comes to divorce. That is as clearly stated in several passages in your Quran. A man can literally divorce a man without even needing to set foot in Sharia court, and he does not need to answer to anyone as far as his decision is concerned. This is according to Mohammed in the Quran you claim to follow. 🥱🥱
Bring references.
This is one beautiful thing about Islam and shariah. It's not something you can sit in the corner of your room and make up. Sharia means Qur'an and sunnah based. Not some wishful thoughts like you typed above.

Can you kindly bring Qur'an and sunnah references to these your assertions? Show the world the "several passages"

Those are the pains we must accept for the country to grow. If not, igbos will as well be able to leave the country freely.
Sharia cannot supercede the clause of freedom of religion and association in the constitution. No christain or customary does that. It is contrary to terms of natural justice, equity and good conscience
Ps: I am having this conversation with you here online, cause I know I can't do it today in Kano, if not I may be stoned to death or burnt, it's very sad.
Muslims should sacrifice their faith? This is easy to say because the common law upon which our system is based favours you. Flip positions and imagine it.

Personally, I support the Igbos or any group's right to freedom. So far it's the wish of the majority. I don't believe any group should sacrifice their freedom of anything for whatever reason.

If you will be stoned in Kano for discussing a topic of interest, that's Kano, not shariah.
Again, shariah doesn't contradict any provision of our constitution. If it does is anyway, make adequate references to the shariah provision that contradicts which specific constitutional provision.

The issue really is non Muslims using certain practices by some Muslims to judge Islam as a whole. This isn't fair. Kano isn't the only state in this country where shariah is adopted. Hisbah activities vary across the 12 northern states that adopted shariah. Infact, it existed only on paper in Borno. Each state has its legal framework for shariah. Northern Nigerian isn't the only region where shariah has been adopted. There are countries with Islam as state religion and shariah as the legal system. Non Muslims live in these countries without having to sacrifice anything.

Out of intolerance, rather than interrogate the real issues, non Muslims call the dog a bad name, so that it can be killed. Instead of them to find out exactly what shariah law's position is on matters, they reference what some people do under the guise of shariah and parade it as shariah.

Why having sharia laws that are in conflict with the constitution of Nigeria,
Permit me to digress from the topic. Freedom of association and religion, yet hisbah are arresting people on the streets for not fasting?
Are you sure you want us to have this topic?
The customary laws protect the traditionalists' beliefs.
The common and civil laws have origins in England and Roman Christianity based laws which protect Christians' beliefs.

Where should the Muslim Nigerians take their affairs? Don't they have the freedom of belief as enshrined in the constitution and international human rights laws?

Shariah laws aren't in conflict with the constitution of Nigeria. The constitution permits shariah law.

Nigerian Muslims are disadvantaged courtesy of the faith based colonialism we had. Missionary was part of the goals of the colonial masters. They gave us our systems which give Christians undue advantage. If anything, the system is "Christianized".
Before colonialism, what do you think our forefathers were doing on Saturdays and Sundays? Now, everyone has to observe these two days as "weekends" against his or her wishes simply because seventh day adherents wanted Saturday and the other Protestants and Orthodox Christians wanted Sunday. Then it became binding on all. This is just one.

Typical Life in the North under shariah law where divorce is the exclusive right of the man and he doesn't even need to go to court to get a divorce.
Divorce isn't the exclusive right of the man in Islam. Both parties can initiate/seek divorce.
As a matter of fact, no faith discourages dissolution of marriage like Islam. It's like the last option to prevent marital disaster.

BlackViper:
All he has to do is say: "I divorce you" to his wife 3 times in the presence of 2 adult male witnesses and the marriage automatically comes to an end. This is known as "Triple Talaq."
Pronouncing divorce three times at an instance is disliked in Islam, though the divorce stands. It's not the proper way. Witnesses aren't needed.
The marriage ends but there is the concept on 'iddah, only seen in Islam. The divorced wife has to do three menses in the man's house with her basic bills picked by the man 100% during this period. It's like a reconciliation window, to save the marriage. The man can take her back during this period without a new nikkah so far it's not the third divorce. A man can't marry his wife again if he has divorced her 3 times until she marries another man who consummates the marriage. Again, this is like a caution to make the man careful. Iddah is also to ensure the divorced wife isn't pregnant, so that she won't go away with the man's baby. This prevents paternity fraud.

BlackViper:
Under Islamic law, the husband can divorce his wife for any reason or for no reason and at any time he feels like doing so.
Under Islamic law, a person who divorces his or her spouse without genuine reason is sinful. While the marriage stands dissolved here on earth, he or she will face the consequences on the day on judgement.

BlackViper:
Meanwhile a Muslim wife can only divorce her husband under one condition and one condition only. This condition is, if he leaves Islam. She cannot divorce him because he's unfaithful to her and she cannot divorce him on the grounds of domestic violence because the koran allows husbands to "discipline" their wives
Wife can initiate/seek divorce just like the man. It's even more strict on the husband because if she does, there is no iddah for the husband. Also, she has only one card unlike the husband who has three. It's kinda easier for her

There is the role of the shariah court in all matters of marriage to ensure fairness among the parties. The primary goal is to save the marriage. If it doesn't work, that's when a fair dissolution comes in with the interests of the children of the marriage adequately protected.
That someone is cooking with pressing iron doesn't mean it was made for cooking. That someone is practising Islam wrongly doesn't change what Islam represents. You can talk about Islam, if you're knowledgeable about it and what you'll be saying is exactly what Islam is, not that the irresponsible behaviors and practices of some Muslims is Islamic. Be careful not to attract the wrath of the Almighty.

This is not correct.
Ask about Islam from Muslims, not just these blackmail you're throwing around.

The concept of pronouncing divorce three times at a single instance is disliked in Islam, even though the divorce stands but not the proper way.

You left the preliminary concepts and went straight to "finality". Isn't that hypocrisy?

An average Kenyan does not like us. I just returned from Kenya yesterday. At a point, I got frustrated and employed the first attack tactics by raising safety concerns about every place I visited first, pushing them to admit that there are bad Kenyans and offer tips on how to be safe before they would now mention the bad Nigerians. The annoying part is that, all of those I interacted with never had first hand experiences of the supposed evils of Nigerians, neither do they personally know any victim. They keep spreading the rumor and expressing fear once they know you're a Nigerian.

There is a YouTube video with its caption about Nigerian murderers and drug dealers in Ruaka (a suburb of Nairobi), the video didn't contain anything like the caption. The blackmail among Kenyans is annoying and I'm not sure I want to ever visit that country again. There is nothing they have that Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, or Ethiopia doesn't have.

I wouldn't be surprised if they start Xenophobic attacks on Nigerians, their men especially.

IslamRe: Aqeeqah (naming Ceremony): On 7th Or 8th Day? by DesireV:
Lukgaf:
Have you ever given birth to a child or attended a naming ceremony (Aqeeqah)? If so, when did it take place? Most times, we assume the naming must be done on the same day of the following week i.e. Sunday to Sunday, Monday to Monday, and so on. But is this accurate?

In truth, this common practice often misses the mark.

The Prophet ﷺ said:
"A child is held in pledge for his Aqeeqah, which should be slaughtered for him on the seventh day..."
— (Abu Dawood 2838, Tirmidhi 1522)

So, the key question is: How do we properly count the seventh day?

Islamically, a new day begins after Maghrib (sunset), not at midnight as widely assumed. This has important implications:

➡️ If a child is born before Maghrib on Sunday, then Sunday counts as Day 1. That means the Aqeeqah should be on Saturday, not the next Sunday.

➡️ If the child is born after Maghrib on Sunday, then Monday is Day 1, and the seventh day falls on the following Sunday.

❗️What does this tell us?

We need to stop following culture blindly and start aligning our actions with authentic Sunnah. It’s okay if we were unaware before, but once we receive correct knowledge, we should make a change.

“When evidence comes, we must submit.”

As Muslims, this is the attitude that will keep us on the right path.

May Allah grant us sound knowledge, sincerity, and the ability to act upon the Sunnah in all aspects of our lives.

BarakaLlahu feekum.

Abu Hafs Lukgaf
A child born after magrib on Sunday (night of Monday) was actually born on Monday which will count as the first day of the seven.

MTN, and some banks that gave best performers prizes contacted JAMB for the list of top scorers which is what any refined organization would do. The original highest scorer had 360 or so and from same state as Mmesoma (Anambra)

If the 19yr old lady that committed suicide was among the affected, I think the registrar and head of the department/unit concerned should resign and the lady's family heavily compensated while the affected service provider heavily sanctioned too.

Of course nobody would have known if they refused to listen to the complaints, as was the case under Prof 'Dibu Ojerinde. I'm very certain this isn't the first time this error would be happening. With this, I'm not sure I can trust the board again.

If I were the president, I'm banning JAMB from conducting exams with immediate effect. Schools should conduct their entrance exams while JAMB performs oversight, collation, and admission harmonization duties alone.

Hello,

I am a single guy thinking of getting married soon but some of the ladies I am considering having a serious relationship that may lead to marriage with are not virgins. This came as a surprise to me as I thought it will be easy to find a virgin to settle down with.

Should I try to focus on finding the one with best character and settle with or I should continue with my search to find a virgin?

I understand marriage is more than virginity but I am just wondering.

Looking forward to your responses. smiley

Thanks
Keep searching for a virgin IF you're a virgin too, otherwise focus on who you can tolerate most.

In my opinion, a virgin man deserves nothing but a virgin woman for marriage. Forget about "some virgins have bad character bla bla". If an average virgin is bad, then an average non virgin is worse. I believe every man deserves to legally tear a leather.

Ability to keep one's virginity is a sign of discipline and strong will, especially in this era of heightened level of immorality. The chances of working marriage out with a virgin, whether man or woman is higher than for non virgins. What do you think make an individual to want to keep his or her virginity? The answer is part of what's needed to make a marriage work. Part of the benefits include, zero "past/baggages", reduced paternity fraud risk, increased loyalty chances, high reproductive health prospect, etc

I was a virgin at marriage and I married a virgin. Praise be His, I feel like paying her bride price again every single day.

Makinde is right on this. A Sharia panel for Muslims is not a court of law, it's just an alternate dispute resolution mechanism for consenting Muslims. Some Churches too have committee that resolve dispute among members who present themselves to them according to Christian ethics and practices.
It's as simple as this. I seriously don't know why some people are having sleepless nights over it. The Muslims among them, it's understandable. They're probably perpetrators of evil and aware of the shariah rulings on the evils they do but I don't understand why a non Muslim would stress himself over shariah panel. The issue of Shari'a is simple, but the mischief makers and thieves amongst us are the ones against it.
Let's assume a Muslim takes inheritances of orphans of Muslim parents unjustly, whether he wishes to be tried under Shari'a or not, he must abide by the Shari'a rulings.
Forget about all these cut hands and legs or fulani propaganda, Shari'a has to do with Islamic rulings and if it's rightly applied, it's beneficial.

The hypocrisy! <5% Christian population in some northern communities deserve justice but <5% Muslim population in the East are inconsequential.

Deborah Samuel's life in Sokoto deserves justice but lives of Harirah Jubril with her 4 children (Fatimah, Khadija, Hadiza, Zaituna) killed in Ezira, Anambra do not deserve justice. These two cases happened barely 2weeks apart.
The Christian community easily blamed the religion of Deborah's murderers while the religion of the murderers of Harirah and her children shouldn't be blamed. How about we call for all murderers to be brought to book? Should sanctity of lives be dependent on their faith?

Until we are all unanimous in condemning evil in its totality, irrespective of who are involved, it's mere hypocrisy.
