BusinessRe: Why Can't Nigerians Shop Online? by determined(op): 9:27pm On Mar 16, 2009
Dis Guy:
For a state like Lagos, one would expect forward thinking entrepreneurs to start things like that
but I'm sure there are several brickwalls like cost, postage system, demand, banking/ internet banking, consumer laws
security and culture (people like to view/use/feel before paying for goods or services)

Big shops should introduce internet shopping especially in places where there is demand for it

I think we should start from lagos first. most of these places are not even available outside of lagos
I'm glad your thoughts are like mine. I totally concur.
BusinessRe: Why Can't Nigerians Shop Online? by determined(op): 9:14pm On Mar 16, 2009
well, if interswitch and etranzact have very good web transaction security I don't think it would be a problem. Airlines are already deploying web payments so huh
BusinessWhy Can't Nigerians Shop Online? by determined(op): 9:01pm On Mar 16, 2009
I was at Shoprite over the weekend and it was a horrible experience.

First of all, not only did it take about an hour through the Ozumba Mbadiwe Traffic to get there, but when I finally got in, parking space was a problem, It was like the whole of Lagos was at the Palms.

Ok. I eventually found somewhere to park and started shopping and at the end of the day I spent more than 30 mins on the long queue to pay for my stuff.

Now I really want to know everyone's opinion, What's the point of all this? Why can't we have online shopping with our interswitch or etranzact cards while such shops have a delivery service plan and whats your opinion about online shopping for places like Shoprite, Game, Park and Shop etc. in Nigeria?

hi guys,

i'm OCA certified. i did a self study and paid for the exam in the UK and did it in a prometric centre.
however, for OCP, i need to have hands-on-requirement. im looking for an authorized testing center to do my OCP in lagos, which would not cost me an arm and a leg (e.g. NIIT and APTECH are too expensive)
could someone please help me out?
thanks.

@ all

thanks a lot guys for all your input. you've given me a wider view on things. however, does anyone think i have a case of appeal and if u were to appeal against the EOC's decisions, what points would you consider? and where would you send your appeal case to? (Home office in the Uk or the BHC here).

thanks.

@ Siena

well i just think she's had a good 4 years experience and knowledge about these things from her thread in "UK Visas - visa appeal process" she talked about her sister being refused visa. you can search for "UK Visas - visa appeal process" on nairaland here. and please give your own suggestion to my question. thanks.
TravelRe: Uk Visa - Visa Appeal Process by determined: 12:29pm On Mar 16, 2008
Hi all,
could someone please give me advise on appealing a UK visa refusal case? the visa refused was working holiday permit visa

Here are the facts:
- I'm a frequent traveller to the UK
- I'm going on a long holiday and intend to legally work while there and I am very eligible to apply for the visa
- the EOC kept saying she wasnt satisfied with my reasons for applying for the visa. she thinks i don't know what the working holiday maker visa is for in otherwords, i don't know what im applying for and i could not give her a detailed itinery of how i want to spend my holday for 2 years. (for crying out loud am i supposed to keep a calender of daily happenings of what i want to do in the UK?) and besides when i was filling my application form, it was optional to provide an itinery.
- she also said i dint state famous sites i'd like to see in the UK. she didnt ask me to state such places and for crying out loud would i be visiting big ben, trafalgar square etc. every year that i take a trip to the UK?
- i stated the places ill be visiting as in london, sheffield, wales, essex etc. i explained i had friends and family there so im basically not going to be in one place. thats my idea of a vacation visiting places, friends and family and taking time out to rest. maybe she should have been more specific as to ask me if there are any tourist attraction sites i want to visit.
- i also said i wasnt planning on taking any serious work since im going to be moving around. she asked me what kind of jobs have i considered taking up and i said shop jobs like tesco jobs, asda etc. babysitting etc. nothing too tasking. aparently, i don't think she had a problem with that because she didnt state it as one of the reasons for refusal.

- finally she said she's not satisfied or sure of the source of funds that i have in my bank statement. she never even asked me about the source of funds during the interview and shes not saying the funds are not enough to support my travel.

Could someone please advise me on this kind of case? thanks.

funkybaby:
How can you apply for work permit and not explain what you are going to be doing there. I am pretty sure that was the major reason you were called for the interview-to explain your plans since you didnt include them in your form. That 'optional' part max have been over looked if maybe you were applying from an EU country but definately not for an applicant from nigeria.
i stated the places ill be visiting as in london, sheffield, wales, essex etc. i explained i had friends and family there so im basically not going to be in one place. thats my idea of a vacation visiting places, friends and family and taking time out to rest. maybe she should have been more specific as to ask me if there are any tourist attraction sites i want to visit.

funkybaby:
You also made mistakes here. You are applying for Working HOLIDAY visa- which in lay terms means you are going for a vacation just that you would be working for a few period during the vacation (you are not allowed according to the law to work throughout the period of the vacation), so its only normal for you to list all the tourist attractions you intend visiting.
i also said i wasnt planning on taking any serious work since im going to be moving around. she asked me what kind of jobs have i considered taking up and i said shop jobs like tesco jobs, asda etc. babysitting etc. nothing too tasking. aparently, i dont think she had a problem with that because she didnt state it as one of the reasons for refusal.

CareerCompanies That Demand 2.1's Are Limiting Themselves by determined(op): 9:05am On Jun 27, 2007
What's the big deal anyway with 2.1 and 2.2?

I know some first class materials that can't even write a memo and a lot of 2.2 graduates who are more intelligent than the 2.1's. if you ask me, i think companies that demand for 2.1's are limiting themselves.

What do you guys think?

Lotachi:
Interesting topic!

In wich way should your site be different?
A couple of days ago I have posted the following in another topic
( https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-59906.0.html )
I can't disclose every plan here but some of the main differences would be:
- actual auctions and sales going on i.e. others will have an opportunity to bid on prices of commodities
- registered users would have accounts to track their sales and auctions
- registered users can also post wanted ads for others to respond to

(these are just a few)

and seun, it would be a pleasure running this with you. seriously!!!
