In this interview with OLUFEMI ATOYEBI, a former Chief Executive Officer, Ogun/Oshun River Basin Development Authority and Chairman of Kakanfo Inn and Conference Centre, Ibadan, Oyo State, Dr. Lekan Are, says the criticisms against the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), are needless What’s your view of Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari? I met him for the first time in 1984 at the Dodan Barrack, Lagos, after he came into power in December 1983. I was the Chief Executive Officer of the Ogun/Oshun River Basin Development Authority at the time. He later called all heads of parastatals and ministries to a meeting in Abuja, where we defended how we ran our various agencies. We all took turns to do so. When it was my turn, I presented a detailed report and Buhari expressed satisfaction at my presentation. However, he was not happy with some of those who presented their reports before me and he made it known immediately at the meeting. He told them to learn from my presentation and how I ran the office. When I was asked to defend having a guest house and a school inside the premises of the Ogun/Oshun River Basin Development Authority in Abeokuta, I explained that because our location was some miles away from the main community, at least three hours of working time would be lost if my staff had to take their children to school in the morning and bring them back in the afternoon. I said the school was meant for their children and that we also accommodated pupils from the rural community around us. I also explained that the guest house was meant for staff that had to travel from far places on official duty to our location and anyone among the public who wished to stay there. I told Buhari that it was not free. He was satisfied with my explanation. He said that he was impressed with the way I have managed our resources and time. When we were to leave, he called me and asked if I needed more money and I said that I would be happy. I got a 17 per cent raise in allocation. That was when the heads of parastatals were given the authority to have direct access to their finances instead of through the ministers of supervising ministries. What I am saying here is that Buhari appreciates efficiency, honesty, competence and hard work. He does not associate himself with corruption and dishonesty. I met him again when he visited the Ikere Gorge Dam that we built in a remote part of Iseyin in Oyo State. He asked me why we were yet to erect the gate to the site and I told him that the gate was manufactured in Germany but it required an import licence to bring it to Nigeria. I also explained that even though I had applied for it, the ministry in charge was not ready to give me because the staff demanded illegal money which I was not ready to give. The minister in charge of the ministry was with us on the tour. Buhari told him immediately that he should personally deliver the licence to me immediately after the tour. The minister personally brought the licence to my office in Abeokuta. I met Buhari again in 1997 when Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, invited me for a conference on irrigation. Buhari was also there. When he saw me, he came down from the raised platform to greet me. When it was time for lunch, he came to me again and held my hand and that of my friend, leading us to where we took our food. If you do your work diligently and honestly, Buhari will not forget you because he does not associate himself with corruption and indolence. Some people have criticised Buhari for being desperate to rule this country. They are of the opinion that only a desperate person will contest for the same position since 2003. What is your opinion on this? It is unfair to bring up issues like this because there is no need for it. Abraham Lincoln, who was a former president of the United States, contested and lost many elections. He ran for state legislature seat and lost in 1832. He lost again in 1843 and 1854 when he ran for a senate seat. He was also rejected when he sought to be land officer in his home state. Two years later, he lost in his bid to be considered as vice-president at his party’s convention. After losing his senate bid again in 1858, he got the US people’s votes to become president in 1860. We all know his great work as US president. People set a goal and get there when they are consistent. If Buhari does not have something to offer the nation, he will not be seeking their support since 2003. One other criticism of Buhari is that he truncated civilian rule when he overthrew the Shehu Shagari government in 1983. Don’t you think this will have a negative effect on his quest to become president? We have had military coups in Nigeria in the past. He was the Head of State at the time but are we sure he organised the coup? I am not defending him on that but since 1966 we have been having coups in Nigeria and we even had coups after Buhari. Buhari is not the only person to have been involved in a coup in Nigeria. But like I said, that is not enough reason to criticise him. Are you satisfied that we could have a 72-year-old former soldier as Nigeria’s next president? I am happy to read an analysis written by someone in the newspaper recently where he tabled the ages of Nigeria’s former Heads of State and presidents. Many of them reached the position in their 40s or a bit older. In other words, younger people have ruled Nigeria but is Nigeria a better country today? We have countries with older presidents who are doing well. If I am given the opportunity to lead the nation today, will I do it badly? At my age, I know better and I understand the dynamics of leadership and governance because of the experience I have garnered through the various positions I have held. Age has a lot to do with experience, which also teaches us how to do things better. For people like us who have followed Nigerian history and have been part of it, we cannot be happy with the way things are now. I graduated from the University of Ibadan in 1958 when Nigeria had not attained independence, so I witnessed colonial rule. I also witnessed governance in the independence era till date. What’s your impression about the controversy surrounding Buhari’s certificate? It is very irrelevant to the issue on the ground. If you have a degree certificate, can we say that you do not have a secondary school leaving certificate? The records show that Buhari possesses superior qualifications which he could not have acquired if he did not have secondary school certificate. Record shows that he attended courses with former President Olusegun Obasanjo, the late Shehu Yar’Adua, and other colleagues in the Army. He could not have been considered for these courses if he did not possess a secondary school certificate. We even have people who proceeded to secondary school from Standard Five in those days. Let me give you a personal experience. I don’t know where my primary school and secondary school certificates are today. I don’t also know where my other certificates are but can someone challenge me and say that I don’t posses secondary school certificate after attaining the height in my academic and professional pursuits? It is impossible because records will show in places where I have worked and where I obtained other certificates that I have even higher qualifications. It is an issue that should not have come up because there was no need for it. I am happy that a former Head of State has warned that we should not politicise the Nigerian Army. Are you satisfied with Buhari’s choice of running mate? I am aware that Buhari was involved in choosing his running mate. People say that he is a religious fanatic but I think he has answered them now. If he was a fanatic, he would not want to have anything to do with Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, who is a pastor at the Redeemed Christian Church of God. Buhari is not a fanatic but people like to politicise issues in Nigeria. Buhari’s personal assistant, driver and cook are Christians. If he is actually a religious fanatic, he would have employed Muslims to work with him instead of having anything to do with those Christians who work for him. How will you rate Nigeria under President Goodluck Jonathan? Today’s Nigeria is not the best we hoped for. The nation has not improved as expected under this administration. I attended one of the best secondary schools in Nigeria, Government College, Ibadan. Our final examination results were usually 100 per cent. In other words, every pupil passed his papers. Today, it is sad that the last examination recorded a 16 per cent pass in the school. That is just a school in Ibadan. We have a poor education system in Nigeria today because this government keeps changing the school syllabus. I have only talked about the education sector. If you say that your economy is improving, it must have a direct impact on the people. This is the first time that Nigeria will record more poor percentage of its population. |
In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. Although we are only given small glimpses of the world prior to man, the Scriptures tell us that during this time Lucifer, one of the high-ranking angels serving before God’s throne, convinced a third of the angels to follow him in rebellion against God (Isaiah 14:12-15; Ezekiel 28:13-16; Revelation 12:7-9). Apparently, because of this great battle, the beautiful earth God had created (Isaiah 45:18) became “without form, and void” (Genesis 1:2). Because of Lucifer’s rebellion, his name was changed to Satan, meaning “adversary.” His followers, fallen angels, became known as demons. After refashioning the earth so it could sustain human life, God created the first man, Adam. Eve, the first woman, was created a short time later. In addition to placing them in the Garden of Eden, where they could live and multiply, God gave them instruction in the way of life that would lead to happiness and eternal life. But this couple was also given the choice of whether they would obey their Creator or choose their own path. God gave Adam and Eve the first opportunity to rule when He put all things under the feet of man, giving him dominion over the works of God’s hand (Psalm 8:4- .In submission, I perceive what happened to Satan in heaven might befall PDP very soon. Watch out!

WHY PDP/JONATHAN MAY LOSE 2015 ELECTION Jan 18, 2015356Views 11Likes 8Comments Share on LinkedInShare on FacebookShare on Google PlusShare on TwitterTHESE ARE 10 REASONS WHY PDP/JONATHAN MAY LOSE 2015 ELECTION. YOU CAN DISAGREE BUT WITH FACTS. * 1. -FOR PICKING JONATHAN AS THEIR PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE. NIGERIANS WERE ALREADY TIRED OF GOODLUCK HIS GOVERNMENT AND HIS STYLE OF LEADERSHIP. PDP SHOULD HAVE PRODUCED ANOTHER CONTESTANT. THIS IS A FACT! A LOT OF PROMISES,SUBSIDY SCAM AND NEW YEAR PRESENTS. IF WE GO BY WHAT FEMI FANI KAYODE HAS WRITTEN AND TRASHED ABOUT HIS CURRENT BOSS ALONE BEFORE HE WAS GIVEN PART OF THE CAKE WE SHOULDN'T BE TALKING ABOUT PDP FIELDING GEJ TO CONTEST AGAIN. IN POLITICS YOU PAIR UP THE BEST TO GET RESULTS & NOT THINK FAVOR WILL COME BY EMOTIONAL JUDGEMENT. *2 - PDP DID NOT PREPARE FOR /EXPECT A STRONG OPPOSITION & THE PRESIDENT'S ACCEPTANCE TO HAVE FAILED. AFTER 16 YEARS THEY EXPECTED THE SAME RUN-OVER AND DID NOT EXPECT TO SEE A BUHARI/TINUBU RELATIONSHIP. DID NOT EXPECT A FORMIDABLE TEAM OF A MUSLIM LEADER AND CHRISTAIN VICE PRESIDENT. PRESIDENT GOODLUCK JONATHAN SAID HIS GENERATION HAS FAILED DURING HIS CAMPAIGN SPEECH IN LAGOS TO THE YOUTHS. WHY IS HE CONTESTING? *3 - PRESIDENT GOODLUCK'S ADVISORS. THEY FED HIM LIES ABOUT DOING THEIR JOB. HE TOOK THEM FOR THEIR WORDS! THIS CAUSED A MAJOR SET-BACK TO THIS ADMINISTRATION. EVEN OKONJO IWEALA IS ALREADY SAYING SHE CAN'T BE BLAMED FOR THE COLLAPSE OF THE NAIRA AND ECONOMY WHEN INFACT THAT WAS THE REASON SHE WAS EMPLOYED.SHE IS PART OF THE PROBLEM WE HAVE. SHE DEFENDS 2014 BUDGET IN 2015 AND SAYS SHE IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR A MINISTRY SHE HEADS. THE RESPONSE & THE FACT THAT THEY ARE STILL MISSING! ALL AROUND THE WORLD A LIFE IS TOP PRIORITY. IT IS EVIDENT THAT THE NIGERIAN GOVERNMENT LED BY GOODLUCK JONATHAN HAS TAKEN A LOT FOR-GRANTED. IMAGINE IF A RELATIVE WAS INVOLVED IN THESE INSURGENCE AND THE GOVERNMENT THAT SHOULD PROTECT ITS CITIZENS SAY NOTHING TILL AFTER 40 DAYS AND WERE NOT EVEN CERTAIN TILL AFTER 40 DAYS TO MAKE A STATEMENT LET ALONE VISIT THE VICTIMS? IF ANY OF US HAVE A CONSCIENCE WE WON'T GIVE EXCUSES ON THIS PARTICULAR FACT. WE KNOW NOTHING WAS DONE AND A DEFENSE BUDGET OF 984 BILLION IN NAIRA WAS APPROVED 2014. *5 -THE MISSING $20 BILLION DOLLARS. THE REACTION & NO COMMENT ON IT! THE FUNDS STILL REMAIN MISSING AND MAY I REMIND US ALL THAT ITS OUR MONEY. AND $20 BILLION DOLLARS IS NO SMALL MONEY TO ANY GOVERNMENT. THE UNITED KINGDOM SAID IF THE FUNDS BEEN EMBEZZLED OR MISAPPROPRIATED BY THIS PRESENT NIGERIAN GOVERNMENT WERE STOLEN IN GREAT BRITAIN THAT GREAT BRITAIN WILL CEASE TO EXIST. DID ONE OF THE BEST CBN GOVERNORS JUST MAKE A MISTAKE ABOUT FIGURES ? OBASANJO SAID -“But today, that reserve has been depleted! Today, that reserve has been depleted. The reserve we left when we finished paying all our debts, our debts that was about 40billion dollars, that is including debt forgiveness, the remaining debt was not more than $3billion. Our reserve after we had paid off this debt was about $45billion. As I said, they continued till the end of 2007, I heard that the reserve increased to almost $67billion before the end of the year. Our reserve now, learnt is left with around only $30billion * 6 - PDP LOST ATIKU,KWAKWANSO ,IBB & OBJ. HOW COULD YOU LET THAT HAPPEN? PLUS GENERAL BUHARI HAS INTEGRITY! -PDP HAD THE STRONGEST MEMBERS FOR A POLITICAL PARTY IN AFRICA. THEN THEY LOST LOYALTY OF 3 KEY MEMBERS. IBRAHIM BABANGIDA,OBASANJO AND ATIKU. THEN THESE 2 GENERALS ACCUSED THE PRESENT GOVERNMENT OF MISMANAGEMENT AND MORE. IBB ON USAGE OF FUNDS WHILE OBJ TALKED ABOUT THE FOREIGN RESERVE AND DEBTS. * 7 - PDP LOST THE 4 BIGGEST STATES IN NIGERIA TO APC - MORE OR LESS LACK/NO STRATEGY! -IN POLITICS A LOT HAS TO DO WITH PLANNING AND STRATEGY. PDP HAS NO PLAN AND NO STRATEGY. INFACT THEIR CAMPAIGN TEAM HAS DONE NOTHING YET TO CONVINCE ANY NIGERIAN ABOUT KEEPING THEM IN POWER. THE 4 BIGGEST STATES IN NIGERIA IS BEING CONTROLLED BY AN OPPOSITION. IN THE GAME OF POLITICS AS A RULING PARTY IT MUST NEVER HAPPEN. THIS THEY FAILED TO SEE COMING. *8 - THE NORTH & WEST WILL VOTE BUHARI OVER GEJ. READ THE NEWS! -BASED ON HISTORY & POPULARITY PRESIDENT GOODLUCK JONATHAN WILL NOT COME OUT TO SAY HE WILL BEAT GENERAL MUHAMMADU BUHARI IN THE NORTH. ATIKU LOST THE PRIMARIES TO HIM AND SO DID KWAKWANSO A STRONG NORTHERN POLITICAN. AND EVEN AFTER THE VISIT TO MAIDUGURI NORTHERN ELDERS FEEL HE CAME TO CAMPAIGN AND ITS AN INSULT TO THEIR DEAD RELATIVES. THEY ASKED WHY HE NEVER CAME DURING THE CHIBOK INSURGENCE OR AFTER? ASKED WHY HE CAME NOW AND WHAT HE INTENDS TO ACHIEVE WITH THE VISIT SINCE THE ELECTION IS LESS THAN A MONTH AWAY. “His trip to Maiduguri is an empty gesture. People should run on their track record. Those who are in the North-East and northerners as a whole have been waiting to hear what he has to say he has done for the North all the years he has been in power, which is over five years. And how he has handled the security crisis in the North-East, in particular. “For five years, he has been complaining that Boko Haram is not an insurgency as such and that it is a conspiracy against his government. What has he done to redeem lives and property destroyed by Boko Haram? Whether it is a conspiracy or not, what is happening in the North-East ruthlessly exposes his incompetence, corruption and the sheer hatred he has for the North. “This is an election he will lose. I want to assure you that he will not win votes no matter how they are conducted in the North-East. No matter what he does, he will not win votes. I know the North more than he does. The visit shows that the man has no respect for human lives and dignity.” ALSO A FORMER MINISTER OF HIS GOVERNMENT - Oby Ezekwesili, the former Minister of Education, and #bringbackourgirls protest leader has lashed out at the President Goodluck Jonathan for his visit to Baga, and Maiduguri, both in Borno State. The region has been a hot bed for terrorists over the past few years. She accused the president of playing politics with the lives of the citizens killed there, and said his visit is the hallmark of deceit -Fact 9 - THE 2014 BUDGET & THE FACT THAT 20% OF THE BUDGET WAS THE AMOUNT SAID TO BE SPENT ON DEFENSE & THE LIVES WE LOST. ARMY NIGERIAN & CIVILIANS TO BOKO HARAM. A VISIBLE MEMBER OF THE PDP -Dr. Allen Mannaseh. He flayed the president promises to retake captured territory without saying anything about the 276 kidnapped Chibok schoolgirls. “As the spokesman of the Kibaki (Chibok) Community nationwide, I do not know what to tell people when they call to ask why the president didn’t say about the Chibok girls. We feel pained always and we keep asking why is the Chibok girls case being treated like this?” he asked in a telephone chat with reporters in Maiduguri. He described the president’s visit as “political rather than sincere effort to sympathise with the people,” adding that the visit came ahead of the presidential campaign in Maiduguri billed to hold before the end of January *10A - THE VIOLENCE IN JOS ,BOKO HARAM AND ITS CONTINUOUS KILLING & A PDP CHEIFTAIN (SHERRIF) LINKED TO SPONSORING BOKO HARAM BY A CHADIAN AND AUSTRALIAN INVESTIGATORS NOT APC OR NIGERIAN JOURNALIST! PDP HAD HIM AS A CONTESTANT BEFORE DROPPING HIM LESS THAN A WEEK AGO! Stephen Davies, was contracted by the Federal Government to negotiate the freedom of the abducted Chibok girls had alleged that both Messrs. Sheriff and Ihejirika were major sponsors of the sect. VIDEO LINK - https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=xBfdhzYaABA The sect has overrun towns and villages, including Mubi, Michika, Bazza, Gulak, Gwoza, Bama, Gamboru and Ngala in Adamawa and Borno states. Ngala is the home place Mr. Sheriff. Nourished by deep and impeccable sources from members of the Chadian Army, Nigerian intelligence experts had arrived at fairly certain conclusions that Mr. Sheriff was actively involved in the recruitment, training and deployment of Boko Haram members. “…members of Boko Haram sect are sometimes kept in Abeche region in Chad and trained before being dispersed. This happens usually when Mr. Sheriff visits Abeche,” a 2011 memo from field officers in N’djamena, the capital of Chad, read. When Mr. Sheriff visits Abeche for these activities, he lodges in Chadian Presidential Guest House in Abeche, and is provided security by the Chadian government, the intelligence communications claim. Mr. Sheriff is a close friend of the Chadian president, Idris Deby. In 2011, during the Chadian presidential elections, Mr. Sheriff supported the Chadian president with 35 vehicles, for security, and is believed to have bankrolled Mr. Deby’s re-election. Nigerian defence and intelligence community members typically describe Mr. Sheriff as a gun runner in their many communications, and they often speak in conviction that his weapons find their way into Nigeria through Niger Republic into Yobe state. Yobe is Boko Haram’s stronghold and has suffered heavy casualties in magnitudes only second to Borno. Money, Politics and Power Back in August 2011, intelligence officials were characterising Mr. Sheriff’s motivations for sponsoring Boko Haram as similar to a certain “3rd generation South South governor,” with the aim of covering up financial irregularities he might have committed as governor of Borno state, as well as propagate a stay-put in office strategy by suppressing the opposition. The officials suggest that Mr. Sheriff did not create the sect but was actively using the “monster” and could be sponsoring the sect as a way of protecting himself from the sect members who were “calling for his head” at the time. “One way of reclaiming the lost loyalty of the sect therefore, was sponsorship of their cause,” intelligence officials were telling their principals -Rampaging Boko Haram gunmen have again raided Askira, a border town between Borno and Adamawa States. Askira, a predominantly farming community is located some 252 kilometres south of Maiduguri, the Borno state capital. This is not the first time the town would be attacked by the terrorists as the gunmen last year attacked the town, destroying houses and many property. Fleeing residents of the town said on Tuesday that the insurgents stormed the town in a convoy of Toyota Hilux vehicles and motorcycles at about 3:35 pm on Monday. They were said to have been armed with Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and petrol-bombs which they deployed in torching several public buildings, including a secondary school, Divisional Police Station and telecom masts. One of the fleeing residents, Adamu Musa, said: “As we were about to depart the motor park yesterday afternoon, we saw some insurgents chanting God is great in Arabic. “They moved to burn down a school in the town to ashes. They did not stop there; they proceeded to the police station and a health centre and threw IEDs at the buildings.” *10B - THE TEAM AGAINST PDP IS LOOKS MORE RELIABLE & STRONGER THAT PDP. *BUHARI, *PROFESSOR OSIBANJO, *TINUBU, *ATIKU, *KWAKWANSO, *EL-RUFAI , *FASHOLA, FAYEMI, *AMAECHI, *OKOROCHA, OSHIOMOLE & MORE ALL THESE NAMES HAVE MASSIVE FOLLOWERS AND HAVE SHOWN NIGERIANS THEY ARE A BETTER TEAM IN-TERMS OF DELIVERY AND MORE & WILL FILL THE SPACE IN THE FEC! THEY AHVE EVEN MENTIONED PART OF THEIR MANIFESTO AND STRATEGY ON JOB CREATION COMPARED TO PDP'S 16 YEARS IN POWER AND JONATHAN'S INTRODUCTION OF IDEAS AFTER 6 YEARS IN GOVERNMENT. A TRIP AROUND NIGERIA WILL SHOW THAT MOST STATES AND CITIES GOVERNED BY APC MEMBERS HAVE WITNESSED MORE VISIBLE TRANSFORMATION THAN THEIR OPPOSITION WHO FORGOT TO USE THEIR OFFICE AS A MEANS TO GETTING RE-ELECTED AND BOOSTING THE PARTY'S IMAGE. RATHER THEY LOST FOCUS |
