Education / What A Young Girl Did On My Way To Work That Most Adults Ignore. Including You! by DevelopNaija: 10:21am On Mar 02, 2018
7:00am!!!

I jumped up from my bed just same way you realise you weren’t urinating in the toilet in your dream, rather, you just BED WETTED IN REAL LIFE!

Preparing by 7am for work that starts by 8am made me realise that God bestowed the ‘fast’ skill on me even better than what he bestowed on Usian Bolt.

7:15am – I saw myself boarding a keke (Tricycle) to where I can get a bus straight to the office. Oh my God! I just repented yesterday from giving flimsy excuses for late coming and I have already seen myself backsliding today! Struggles of being perfect……sigh! No thanks to the Lagos Traffic for contributing to my late coming.

I hurriedly took a peep at my fellow passengers in the Keke. Seated by my left was a young girl on her way to school who probably was still in primary school. While on my right was a young man who I guess was in the same ‘late’ situation with me.

Suddenly, the Keke driver’s phone rang, he picked the call as he kept on driving. I noticed the young girl beside me became uneasy and poked the driver. The driver felt the young girl has reached her destination, so he ended the call and stopped the Keke so she can come down.

I am not coming down here! The young girl claimed

‘Okay’ said the keke driver as he drove off.

The driver’s phone rang the second time. He picked the call and kept driving. Immediately, the young girl gave the driver a slight blow that made him stop swiftly.

Shey you talk say you never reach where you go drop, why you come dey disturb me? The driver queried.
“STOP TALKING ON THE PHONE WHILE DRIVING. DO YOU WANT TO CAUSE AN ACCIDENT? WHAT YOU ARE DOING IS VERY WRONG! – she retorted

A strange silence filled the keke immediately. Seconds later, the other passenger and I wore a bright smile on our faces. “Well done, girl! I am proud of you”, I said in my thought.

I couldn’t help but ponder on what happened in the Keke as I entered the office by 8:30am,! By the way, I came to work before my supervisor, so I had no one to query me. Yay! God gat my back, in fact, my whole body.

Back to the matter; what the young lady did in the Keke is what many of us overlook. I am so proud of the school she attends and her ability to practice what she learns. This shows the level of quality education the young girl receives in school and even at home.

This also shows that there is hope for the future of Nigeria. Imagine if all the children in Nigeria get quality education, what a powerful economy Nigeria will become.

There are many children out there that do not have anyone to put them in a quality and affordable school due to various reasons. We aim at achieving the Sustainable Development Goal of Quality Education in Nigeria by 2030. Hope you aren’t hoping on the government, because government cannot achieve this alone, it is you and I that can make this happen.

Here are some suggestions that could help us achieve this
1. Sponsor a child through school (To tertiary level or beyond)
2. Improve the quality service delivery of a school by volunteering to teach the students,
3. Endeavour to get QUALIFIED STAFF (Owners and managers of schools)
4. Make sure your academic curriculum is up-to-date (Owners , managers and teachers of schools)
5. Ensure students what they are being taught (Teachers and Parents)
6. Donate or contribute massively to improve the quality of a school (such as donating classroom equipment, giving scholarships to outstanding students, renovating a school etc)
7. You could build a school that offers quality and affordable or free education

A big thank you to all those who in one way or the other have and is still contributing to Quality Education in Nigeria.
