The day Nigeria is restructured, 80% of our problem will be solved, all this cycling nah just nonsense and waste of time.

We need to practice our federalism the way it's be done in the USA, or practice confederation.

We are just wasting our time with this system of government we run cause things are just getting worst.

We never ready at all

Exactly, we are not yet ready! It's just too sad cry.
I hope the next administration will be the change we've be hoping for.

Politics / FGN use of Cycling Competition to promote SDGs is a wrong strategy! by DevelopNaija: 7:34pm On Mar 14, 2018
Last month, the Federal Government of Nigeria organised a Cycling competition in Abuja to promote the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The questions that require honest answers are:

Now the cycling completion is over,

1. What significant impact(s) did the competition have in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals in Nigeria?

2. Did the cycling competition create any positive influence in bringing us closer in achieving the targets of the Sustainable Development Goals in Nigeria?

It is still amazing that ‘cycling’ was a preferred option to promote Sustainable Development Goals. There are better options that can promote the SDGs as well as produce sustainable solutions to help Nigeria achieve the SDGs by 2030. These include:

1. Organising competitions for Nigerians to showcase their ingenuity and pitch their creative sustainable solutions that will solve the Sustainable development problems in Nigeria.

2. Doing a reality show where by people get to come up with innovative solutions to achieve the targets of the various SDGs.

3. If at all this cycling completion is necessary, then it should be done in rural and remote areas not in developed areas (when compared with other places in Nigeria). Develop Naija believes the people in remote areas need more enlightenment of the Sustainable Development Goals.

We have had enough of awareness, we need ACTION! Creating awareness with little or no action makes the dream of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals in Nigeria futile.

It is time to for Action! The Nigerian government should begin to organise impact and problem-solving activities to help Nigeria achieve the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030, and not just fun and pleasure seeking activities.
Politics / Re: Banks Not Impacting On The Nigerian Population, 40% Under-banked – Osinbajo by DevelopNaija: 10:03pm On Mar 12, 2018
But isn't their non-impact a result of the policies made by the government....or better still, a result of government's muteness towards the exploitation of the common man by these banks?

Make good polices that will favour the common man, then watch things change!

Food / Re: Happy World Meal Gate: kicking hunger & malnutrition out of Nigeria & Africa. by DevelopNaija: 10:19pm On Mar 08, 2018
This doesn't sound like a genuine way to kick hunger. If indeed it is to kick hunger, why register with money? How many hungry souls can afford that money?Sounds more like a Ponzi scheme or some sort of business.

If you want to help - HELP!
If you want to do business, clearly state it! Stop taking advantage of the problems we have in Nigeria.

Romance / The Guy I Met...(short Interesting Story With A Message) by DevelopNaija: 5:30pm On Mar 08, 2018
I met this guy on my way back from work, months ago. This day was just one of those days I just wanted to have a party with my earpiece and music playlist after a long day; but some people all in the name of ‘socialising’ won’t just let that happen. Arrrrgggh!

“This fuel scarcity will soon make everyone to start using skateboards. No more cars on the road, we we’ll all be swinging left and righ, to and fro work” I heard him say while laughing.

“Did he just crack a joke? Comedy is not his calling but he is answering” I thought to myself.

Won’t you like to have one? He asked

It better not be me he is talking to cos I ain’t in the mood.

Won’t you like to have one? He questioned again, facing my direction.

“One what?” I asked irritatingly

“Skate Boards” he replied

“Do you want to buy for me” I replied with the ‘PLEASE JUST SHUT UP’ look.

“Sometimes, I just wonder if it will be possible to achieve the SDG Goals in Nigeria when we still find it difficult solving the basic problems in Nigeria” Did I just hear him say that?

“Really? You know about SDGs” I asked, facing him with a bright smile. It was my turn to be loquacious.

“Before nko, who doesn’t know about SDG?” He replied like we were having a knowledge contest. Mtchhew!

To cut the long the long story short we talked about the SDGs, work, situation in Nigeria and other things I cannot really remember. But what annoyed me during the conversation was that he kept asking questions to test how vast my knowledge was and to see if I was the no-brainer girl. Imagine oh! Thank God I regularly source for information online, if not, that is how this guy would have used me to measure his knowledge prowess. He does not know I serve a living God.

I’m sure you can correctly guess how the conversation ended...

Can I have your number? He asked politely.

Honestly, there was no intelligent excuse I could think of, so I just had to give him.

After that day, this guy did not allow my phone rest oh........He started competing with 4100, 34245, 256 and all those annoying service provider messages.

How are you?

Have you eaten today?

Did you go to work?

How was work?

When will I see your face again?

He never misses to ask these questions like I am his only child that left home for boarding school. Phew!

Two weeks into the third month of knowing him, I WAS DAMN BROKE that I had to start eating like I was watching my skinny weight; waiting

for my next pay cheque like it was the second coming of Christ. I’m trying so hard right now in restraining myself from abusing my employer.

He didn’t disappoint, as usual, he called. Knowing his regular questions, I picked.

How are you?

“I am fine, you?” I replied gently

“I am good too. Have you eaten?”

“NO” – I almost shouted

Will I be able to see you after work?

Errrrr.......Alright. Where?

“Around that place we entered a bus the other time. Don’t worry, I will text you the name of the restaurant. “

“Okay” I said as he hung up.

I was happy a saviour had come to my rescue me from the bondage of hunger and ‘broke-ness’ or so I thought.

I arrived the restaurant a bit late due to traffic, when I got there, I saw him standing outside and I noticed the restaurant had closed for the day.

I was calm…maybe he had another place we could go.

Only for him to say he forgot the restaurant closes early, that we should just hang around.

I should hang around like a street robber? Wait oh! Ayam not understanding. Isn’t there another restaurant we could go? I asked

He told me the ‘posh’ restaurants have closed and besides, it is too late to start looking for a restaurant. So we can just hang around another place.

I said okay, and guess his best hang out alternative...... in an ABOKI’S Kiosk!

Jeezz!!!

My hope for free supper just got ruined!

I would have jejely gone home to drink garri with 50 Naira groundnut rather than hanging out in an Aboki’s kiosk. Warrisdis

I stayed just because I did not want to be tagged as being rude or one who chases material stuff.

He ordered for meat pie and soft drink as we just sat on the bench outside the kiosk.

As I took the first bite of the meat pie, I realised it was a ‘Meatless Pie’.......just PIE without MEAT

I couldn’t take it anymore. I had to tell him I had to leave because I needed to wake up early tomorrow for work.

He said okay and said he’d like us to do this another time.

DO WETIN When I am not mad.

I left in pain. Unfortunately, the places I could buy groundnut to drink garri when I get home had closed.

I just slept like that....... not without abusing him though.

****

Thinking about what happened made me realise that Nigeria needs overhauling...

I don’t deserve to me owed salary. Why do some employers take advantage of the situation in Nigeria?....to an extent that they treat their staff unfairly and keep ringing it into your ears “There is no work in Nigeria, so you better manage anyone you see”

Is this what Nigeria has been reduced to? Meat pie is sold without meat being inside; eggroll is sold with just a pinch of egg inside it. Kai!

90% of Nigerians are in ‘survival mode’ Why?

We deserve to be treated better.

For us to be treated better, we need to achieve the following Sustainable Development Goals in Nigeria

Goal 1: End poverty in all its forms everywhere.

If everyone could afford the basic things of life, no one would opt for a ‘Meatless Pie’ or an ‘Eggless Eggroll’.

Goal 2: End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture.

If there was sustainable agriculture and food security in Nigeria, I won’t be buying a ‘Meatless Pie’.

Goal 8: Promote inclusive and sustainable economic growth, employment and decent work for all.

I hope every employer sees this. Please, stop treating employees like slaves!

SDG 10 – Reduce inequality.

The gap between the rich and the poor keeps getting wider. Sadly the middle income earners have been eliminated. It is either you are poor or rich. Do you agree?

It is time to for us all to contribute individually and collectively to make this happen. Sole dependence on the government (especially now that the Nigerian Government isn’t delivering as much as we expected) cannot make us achieve these targets.

Please we can’t get out of this mess if we don’t collaborate to fight it. We can’t keep waiting for the government. It is left for you and me to do something.

Dear affluent, influential, benevolent people and organisation, we can make this happen. Your little contribution within your environment or community can go a long way.

Even those in power/government, since Government as a body is doing little or nothing to curb the predicament in Nigeria, you can do something

individually, so the credit can be given to you as an individual.

If you have decided to do something SUSTAINABLE but don’t know how to go about it;

If you are already contributing to Sustainable Development in Nigeria;

If you know someone who is capable of contributing to Sustainable Development in Nigeria;

If you have suggestions on how to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals or how one can contribute to the goals, we'll love to hear from you.

Op, nice story. But you seem to lay 100% emphasis on formal education. Informal education at home too will boost the child's confidence. A wrongly brought up child will be timid no matter how good his or her school is.
If you doubt me, come and see my neighbour's daughters. They don't even know that they should say good morning to you. Yet the older one said she jumped classes because of her brilliance. I bet she won't do what that child did in the Keke.

You are very right. Your contribution must not be to formal education. That's why I insist that everybody has a part to play. Contribute no matter how little, be it formal or informal.

That isn't her picture. It was a picture gotten from Google search to complement the story. Nevertheless, the story is only a subtle means of encouraging individuals to contribute to quality education no matter how trivial or little the contribution may seem. Thank you.

This kind of stuff should equally be learnt at home as it isn't purely academics.

Every balanced home with informed parents should reach their child stuffs like this.

I agree with you. Education isn't just the four walls of a classroom. Everyone has a contribution to make; formally or informally.

Smart kids everywhere these days.!.

Was in a bus from warri to ph.. One kid saw the driver speeding above 80 she tapped the driver and told him he is over speeding.. That he is going past 100.

The mom later told us she learnt it from the video game she plays with the dad.

Really nice of the child. We need more of her kind. Her dad may not know that he has enhanced her knowledge through the video game. That's why we encourage everyone to support in contributing to education no matter how little.

Yeah, it is common sense. But there's a funny saying - "Common sense isn't common". I am sure you've been in vehicles where the driver makes calls while driving and you keep mute. I guess you are also guilty of such action (that's if you have a car and can drive).
However, the whole story is a subtle way of encouraging individuals to contribute to education in Nigeria, in the little way they can.

It isn't a conjectured lie. However, I am glad you got the point as this story is only a subtle way in encouraging individuals to contribute to education in Nigeria. Literature / What A Young Girl Did On My Way To Work That Most Adults Ignore. Including You! by DevelopNaija: 10:30am On Mar 02, 2018
7:00am!!!

I jumped up from my bed just same way you realise you weren’t urinating in the toilet in your dream, rather, you just BED WETTED IN REAL LIFE!

Preparing by 7am for work that starts by 8am made me realise that God bestowed the ‘fast’ skill on me even better than what he bestowed on Usian Bolt.

7:15am – I saw myself boarding a keke (Tricycle) to where I can get a bus straight to the office. Oh my God! I just repented yesterday from giving flimsy excuses for late coming and I have already seen myself backsliding today! Struggles of being perfect……sigh! No thanks to the Lagos Traffic for contributing to my late coming.

I hurriedly took a peep at my fellow passengers in the Keke. Seated by my left was a young girl on her way to school who probably was still in primary school. While on my right was a young man who I guess was in the same ‘late’ situation with me.

Suddenly, the Keke driver’s phone rang, he picked the call as he kept on driving. I noticed the young girl beside me became uneasy and poked the driver. The driver felt the young girl has reached her destination, so he ended the call and stopped the Keke so she can come down.

I am not coming down here! The young girl claimed

‘Okay’ said the keke driver as he drove off.

The driver’s phone rang the second time. He picked the call and kept driving. Immediately, the young girl gave the driver a slight blow that made him stop swiftly.

Shey you talk say you never reach where you go drop, why you come dey disturb me? The driver queried.
“STOP TALKING ON THE PHONE WHILE DRIVING. DO YOU WANT TO CAUSE AN ACCIDENT? WHAT YOU ARE DOING IS VERY WRONG! – she retorted

A strange silence filled the keke immediately. Seconds later, the other passenger and I wore a bright smile on our faces. “Well done, girl! I am proud of you”, I said in my thought.

I couldn’t help but ponder on what happened in the Keke as I entered the office by 8:30am,! By the way, I came to work before my supervisor, so I had no one to query me. Yay! God gat my back, in fact, my whole body.

Back to the matter; what the young lady did in the Keke is what many of us overlook. I am so proud of the school she attends and her ability to practice what she learns. This shows the level of quality education the young girl receives in school and even at home.

This also shows that there is hope for the future of Nigeria. Imagine if all the children in Nigeria get quality education, what a powerful economy Nigeria will become.

There are many children out there that do not have anyone to put them in a quality and affordable school due to various reasons. We aim at achieving the Sustainable Development Goal of Quality Education in Nigeria by 2030. Hope you aren’t hoping on the government, because government cannot achieve this alone, it is you and I that can make this happen.

Here are some suggestions that could help us achieve this
1. Sponsor a child through school (To tertiary level or beyond)
2. Improve the quality service delivery of a school by volunteering to teach the students,
3. Endeavour to get QUALIFIED STAFF (Owners and managers of schools)
4. Make sure your academic curriculum is up-to-date (Owners , managers and teachers of schools)
5. Ensure students what they are being taught (Teachers and Parents)
6. Donate or contribute massively to improve the quality of a school (such as donating classroom equipment, giving scholarships to outstanding students, renovating a school etc)
7. You could build a school that offers quality and affordable or free education

A big thank you to all those who in one way or the other have and is still contributing to Quality Education in Nigeria.
