PoliticsOsere Becomes Talking Point In Rivers After Series Of Fulfilled Prophecies by DezMayorz(op): 2:04pm On May 18
2027: Comr. Osere Dennis Predicts Bigger National Role For Wike, Says Nigeria’s Political Future Tied To FCT Minister

- Said Gov. Fubara will not win, and that all the people Wike endorses will win in the coming elections.

Dez Mayorz Report.

Popular Rivers-based cleric, philanthropist, youth advocate, and lead pastor of Home of Wisdom Fellowship, Omoku, Comr. Osere Dennis, has stirred fresh political conversations ahead of the 2027 elections after releasing another series of bold prophetic declarations concerning President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and the future of Rivers State politics.

Speaking to Dez Mayorz News, Osere Dennis said that Nyesom Wike remains a major force in Nigeria’s political future and would eventually emerge as either President or Vice President of the country.

“Wike will rule this country either as President or Vice President and things will change positively. When he rules, people must follow rules and regulations. Killings will not happen under Wike’s administration,” he stated.

The outspoken cleric further claimed that Wike enjoys divine backing and remains untouchable politically in Rivers State.

“Nobody can challenge Wike in Rivers State. Those who would have spoken will not speak because God will remove their memory,” he said.

Osere Dennis also asserted that he, alongside David Ibiyeomie and an OPM pastor, Chinyere Chibuzor were spiritually assigned to consistently pray for Wike’s protection and political success.

“I, Osere Dennis, David Ibiyeomie, and OPM pastor are assigned from heaven to always pray for Wike. Apart from the three of us, nobody can take Wike down,” he said.

In another striking statement, the cleric claimed that former presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar lost the 2023 presidential election after failing to heed advice to pick Wike as his running mate.

“Atiku lost because he ignored advice and did not pick Wike. He lost it to Tinubu. He is not going anywhere politically now,”
Osere Dennis declared.

The Omoku-based preacher also spoke on the political future of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, alleging that the governor is not planning to seek a second term in office.
According to him, a younger legislator within the Rivers political structure may soon emerge for a significant leadership role.

He further stressed that President Tinubu’s political stability and future success remain tied to maintaining a strong relationship with Wike.

“Tinubu’s success is connected to Wike. Any attempt to separate from him can lead to failure,” he warned.

Osere Dennis, who has steadily gained attention for his political prophecies and commentaries, is widely followed across Rivers State and the Niger Delta region.

Supporters frequently reference some of his past predictions, including his reported forecast of Tinubu’s 2023 presidential victory, as evidence of his perceived prophetic accuracy.

The latest declarations have already generated intense debate across social media and political circles, with supporters describing him as a prophetic voice whose statements often align with unfolding political developments.

Political analysts say the increasing visibility of clerics in political conversations highlights the growing intersection between religion, leadership, and public influence in Nigeria’s democratic landscape.

PoliticsI Stopped Obasanjo’s Impeachment” - Lasbry Amadi Breaks Silence by DezMayorz(op): 6:26pm On May 04
“I Stopped Obasanjo’s Impeachment” - Lasbry Amadi Breaks Silence on 2002 Power Showdown,

- A move that saved Nigeria’s Democracy.

- Explosive account alleges midnight plot, high-level confrontation, and last-minute intervention that averted national crisis.

Dez Mayorz Report.

A dramatic new narrative has reignited debate over one of Nigeria’s most volatile political moments, as former federal lawmaker Hon. Lasbry Amadi said he played a decisive role in stopping the 2002 impeachment move against then President Olusegun Obasanjo.

In a revealing account, Amadi described the impeachment push as a high-stakes political operation that, if successful, could have destabilized Nigeria’s fledgling democracy just three years after the return to civilian rule.

At the height of the crisis, the House of Representatives, led by Speaker Ghali Na’Abba, issued a two-week ultimatum demanding the President’s resignation over alleged constitutional breaches, escalating an already fierce rift between Obasanjo and his deputy, Atiku Abubakar.

Amadi, who was then a member of the House, recounted being drawn into a controversial midnight meeting where lawmakers allegedly strategized on how to execute the impeachment.

Despite being labeled a “rebel” for his pro-Obasanjo stance, he insisted on participating and challenged the process from within.

According to him, the turning point came when he later addressed a high-powered gathering of political heavyweights at the Presidential Villa, where he disclosed details of the impeachment plot and urged a shift from confrontation to dialogue.

The intervention, he claimed, triggered a chain of engagements involving key stakeholders and political leaders, ultimately defusing the crisis and preserving constitutional order.

Lasbry Amadi further asserted that his actions helped prevent what could have spiraled into a broader political breakdown, with potential implications for national stability and democratic continuity.

Political observers note that the 2002 standoff tested the strength of Nigeria’s democratic institutions, with the eventual resolution paving the way for the 2003 general elections Nigeria’s first successful civilian-to-civilian transition.

Adding to the controversy, Amadi revealed that despite his role, he was never formally recognized during Obasanjo’s second term, even as the former President reportedly acknowledged his contribution, stating that his name would be written “in gold” in Nigeria’s history.

The former lawmaker also called for renewed engagement among political actors, suggesting that lessons from the past should guide present-day leadership, including dialogue between former President Obasanjo and current President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the interest of national unity.

As reactions trail the revelations, analysts say the account is likely to reopen discussions about the hidden players behind Nigeria’s democratic survival and whether history has fully credited those who operated behind the scenes.

Rebisi Leaders Reject Waterfront Ownership Claims, Condemn Unauthorized Installation of Chiefs in Port Harcourt

— Nkpolu Rugburodo Council Sets Record Straight on Rumuoji Lands, Urges Respect for History and Due Process.

Dez Mayorz Report.

The Nkpolu Rumuoji Leaders Council of Rebisi Kingdom has issued a formal rebuttal rejecting claims of ownership over certain waterfront areas in Rumuoji, Port Harcourt, and condemning what it described as the unlawful installation of traditional chiefs by unauthorized persons.

In a statement read out and released on May 1, 2026, the council dismissed assertions by individuals of Kalabari extraction; particularly Mr. Taribo Benson, who is said to be laying claim to the Abonema Wharf axis; as unfounded and inconsistent with historical and legal records.

The council also addressed counterclaims associated with the Wakirike National Congress, maintaining that no external group holds ancestral ownership over any part of Rumuoji community within the Rebisi Kingdom.

According to the leaders, the reference to “Abonema Wharf” is purely geographical, indicating a transit point for travelers, and does not confer ownership or ancestral rights.

They emphasized that the land in question remains historically tied to the Rebisi people of Port Harcourt.

To support their position, the council cited documented history, colonial records, and judicial pronouncements, including references to the 1913 Hargrove Agreement and Supreme Court rulings which, they stated, recognize certain settlers as customary tenants under Rebisi ownership.

The statement further noted that attempts to reinterpret the history of Port Harcourt or assign alternative identities to established communities are inconsistent with available records and long-standing traditions.

On the issue of chieftaincy, the council reaffirmed that the authority to install chiefs within Port Harcourt City Local Government Area rests solely with recognized traditional institutions, in line with the laws of Rivers State and the customs of the Rebisi people.

They urged individuals and groups involved to refrain from actions that may disregard historical facts or established legal frameworks, emphasizing the importance of due process and mutual respect among communities.

The council also called on the Rivers State Government and relevant authorities to ensure that established laws and traditional systems are upheld.

The statement was endorsed by several traditional rulers and community leaders across Rumuoji in Rebisi and adjoining areas, reflecting a unified position on the matter.

Outrage in Port Harcourt as Residents Accuse PHED Officials of Cable Theft, Poor Service, Faulty Meters

Fresh controversy has engulfed the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company as angry residents in Port Harcourt especially in Eagle Island and parts of the South-South have raised serious allegations of misconduct, poor service delivery, and worsening operational failures.

Some consumers have accused certain field officials of allegedly removing and diverting customer cables during enforcement or maintenance operations, claims that have sparked outrage and calls for urgent investigation.

The allegations also mention a team reportedly linked to one Engr. Tega, though no official response had been issued at the time of filing this report.

Residents further lamented the recurring failure of prepaid meter gadgets, with some saying that thunderstorms and power surges frequently damage meters they describe as substandard, leaving homes and businesses in darkness for extended periods.

Many customers also expressed frustration over the company’s Band A tariff structure, with critics describing the system as unfair and disconnected from the quality of electricity supply being received.

The growing dissatisfaction, according to residents, has intensified under the leadership of Benson Uwheru, as customers complain that repeated appeals over service failures have not received adequate attention.

Among the most common complaints raised by consumers are estimated billing disputes, delays in meter installation or replacement, poor power supply, frequent outages, slow fault response, poor customer service, and lack of transparency in charges and disconnection processes.

Others also cited aging infrastructure, overloaded transformers, unsafe electrical installations, and allegations of unofficial charges by some field personnel.

Business owners say the situation is hurting productivity, increasing operating costs, and placing additional hardship on households already struggling with economic pressure.

Residents are now calling on Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission and relevant authorities to investigate the allegations, improve oversight, and compel PHED to deliver better service, protect customer assets, and restore public confidence.

As of the time of this report, Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company had not released an official statement addressing the fresh allegations.

With strong community turnout and immediate impact, stakeholders view the initiative as a model for scalable, community-based healthcare interventions in regions where medical access remains a challenge.

32 years on, Ogoni communities remember victims of devastating 17 Lekuma Communities Killings

Dez Mayorz Report.

- Ogoni communities set to mark 32nd remembrance day for victims of Tai crisis.

Communities in Ogoni land are to gather in solemn reflection as the Lekuma Ogoni Communities announce plans for the 32nd Remembrance Day in honour of victims of the historic Tai massacre.

The event, scheduled for Saturday, April 4, 2026, will take place at Birabil Market, with proceedings expected to commence at 10:00 a.m.

Organisers say the annual remembrance is dedicated to honouring the memory of over 2,000 innocent lives lost during the massacre, as well as acknowledging the destruction of more than 17 communities, properties valued at millions of naira, and the displacement of over 70,000 people across Tai Local Government Area.

The Abacha military led junta government destroyed the communities on the 4th of April 1994 in
17 Ogoni Communities that cut across 3 local government, Tai, Eleme and Oyigbo.

The statement further noted that a significant portion of lands within the Tai kingdom remains affected by the aftermath of the killings, with concerns over encroachment and loss of ancestral territories still lingering decades later.

According to the organisers, the remembrance serves not only as a tribute to those who lost their lives but also as a call for unity, justice, and preservation of Ogoni heritage.

Sons and daughters of Ogoni land, both at home and in the diaspora, alongside well-meaning individuals, have been urged to participate in the event as a show of solidarity and collective memory.

Participants are expected to observe a symbolic dress code of black attire and carry candles, reflecting mourning and remembrance.

The 17 communities involved in the commemoration include Tumbee Community and its constituent areas such as Oloko 1 and 2, Agbeta 2, Gbaken 1 and 2, Mumba, Kan-Ban, Eemuu, Aabue, Normabon, Kennkoro, Nwenkova, Kale-Bue, Ledor, Lekuma Khana, Boobe Afam, and Payan.

The notice was signed by Prince Divine Manson Barifodum, on behalf of the organising communities.

The remembrance is expected to draw wide participation as Ogonis continue to reflect on their history while advocating for peace, justice, and restoration across the region.

The Abacha junta's crackdown on the Ogoni people in 1994, which culminated in the 1995 execution of Ken Saro-Wiwa and the "Ogoni Nine," was a brutal military response to peaceful protests against environmental destruction by oil companies, specifically Shell, in Nigeria's Niger Delta.

The regime aimed to suppress the Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP) by framing its leaders for the murder of four Ogoni chiefs

10 Key Questions Trail Allegations Against Umahi as Claims Backfire on Accuser

Chidiebele Okoye,
Port Harcourt, Nigeria.

Mounting scrutiny has followed allegations against Nigeria’s Minister of Works, David Umahi, with growing calls for the accuser, identified as Tracyniter (Tracy) Nicholas Ohiri, to provide credible evidence after the claims appeared to backfire amid inconsistencies.

Stakeholders and observers have outlined 10 critical questions that they say must be answered to establish the authenticity of the allegations:

1. How and when did Ohiri first come into contact with David Umahi? Provide dates, phone numbers, and communication records.

2. What evidence exists of communication between both parties before and after the alleged transaction over the claimed 12-year period?

3. Why does available data suggest that the first contact on May 14, 2023, began with a simple “hello,” despite claims of a long-standing relationship?

4. Can Ohiri identify at least five aides linked to Umahi encountered during the alleged dealings?

5. Where were the said gift items produced, and who handled the production?

6. Can verifiable copies of the images allegedly provided for the job be presented?

7. During the campaign period, did Ohiri interact with any other individuals apart from Umahi?

8. Where are the contractual documents, including quotations, agreements, delivery notes, and acknowledgments?

9. What proof exists to support claims of selling a property in Lekki to finance the project?

10. Can evidence be provided of hotel accommodation during visits to Ebonyi State, including receipts and records?

Analysts say the absence of these fundamental pieces of evidence has raised serious doubts about the allegations.

David Umahi has consistently denied any wrongdoing, emphasizing his commitment to due process and transparency.

Dez Mayorz News gathered that efforts were made to resolve the matter amicably, including offers of support to the accuser, but these reportedly broke down after agreed conditions were not upheld.

Observers warn against the dangers of damaging reputations based on unverified claims, stressing that allegations of this nature must be supported by clear, verifiable, and credible evidence.

As the controversy unfolds, the accuser is already accusing some social media crusaders including ‘VeryDark Black Man’ who were supporting her before for inconsistency.

Attention remains on whether the accuser will provide the necessary proof, while the minister maintains that truth and justice will ultimately prevail.

RIRS Pushes for Full Digitisation of Tax System,

- Moves to Eliminate Multiple Taxation

Dez Mayorz Report,
Port Harcourt, Nigeria.

The Rivers State Internal Revenue Service (RIRS) has unveiled plans for the comprehensive digitisation of tax administration processes, as part of broader reforms aimed at improving efficiency, transparency, and ease of doing business in Rivers State.

This was disclosed by the Executive Chairman of the Service, Sir Israel O. Egbunefu, during the 2026 RIRS Breakfast Meeting held in collaboration with BusinessDay in Port Harcourt.

The high-level stakeholders’ engagement, which focused on “Innovations, Outlook and Expectations of RIRS in 2026 in view of the New Tax Laws,” brought together policymakers, business leaders, and tax experts to examine Nigeria’s evolving tax framework and its implications for economic growth.

In his keynote address, Egbunefu outlined an ambitious reform agenda centred on institutional strengthening and improved service delivery, highlighting key priorities such as the digitisation of tax processes, elimination of revenue leakages, enhanced transparency and accountability, improved taxpayer experience, and stronger inter-agency collaboration.

He noted that the reforms are designed to establish a fair, predictable, and technology-driven tax system capable of supporting economic growth and boosting public confidence.

“Our administrative philosophy is anchored on three pillars, education, engagement, and enforcement,” Egbunefu said, adding that enforcement would remain a last resort, with greater emphasis placed on taxpayer awareness and collaboration.

The RIRS boss further reiterated the agency’s commitment to eliminating multiple taxation, harmonising revenue procedures, simplifying compliance processes, and strengthening dispute resolution mechanisms, measures he said are critical to enhancing investor confidence.

The event also featured a lecture by Prof. John Ohaka, Dean of the Faculty of Administration and Management at Rivers State University, who spoke on “Leveraging Nigeria’s Tax Laws to Enhance Profitability.”

Ohaka highlighted key provisions in the new tax laws, which took effect on January 1, 2026, noting that businesses particularly in the Niger Delta can take advantage of tax exemptions and incentives to improve profitability.

He also pointed to the introduction of digital tax payment systems and electronic invoicing, explaining that these innovations would reduce fraud, improve compliance, and ultimately lower the tax burden on businesses while increasing government revenue.

According to him, the new tax regime is structured to favour the poor and vulnerable, while creating a more enabling environment for businesses to thrive.

The breakfast meeting, held on March 19, 2026, at the Presidential Hotel, marked a significant step in aligning tax administration reforms with Nigeria’s broader economic objectives, reinforcing RIRS’ commitment to a modern, efficient, and investor-friendly tax system.

RIRS Declares Sole Authority on Revenue Collection, Warns MDAs Against Illegal Levies

- Sir Israel Egbunefu Issues the Directive to Curb Revenue Leakages in Rivers.

Dez Mayorz Report.
Port Harcourt, Nigeria.

The Rivers State Internal Revenue Service (RIRS) has issued a strong directive to all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) in Rivers State to immediately cease the direct collection of taxes, levies, and other government revenues.

In a government special announcement signed by the RIRS Executive Chairman, Sir Israel O. Egbunefu, the agency reiterated that, under the Rivers State Board of Internal Revenue Service Law, RIRS remains the sole authority legally empowered to assess and collect all revenues due to the state government.

The directive also prohibits MDAs from appointing third-party agents to collect revenue on their behalf, warning that such actions are in clear violation of the law.

RIRS further advised members of the public, including business owners and taxpayers, to avoid making payments to unauthorized individuals or groups claiming to represent any government ministry or agency.

According to the statement, all payments due to the state must be made strictly through designated payment platforms and approved channels of the RIRS following proper assessment.

The Service emphasized that any MDA or individual found flouting the directive will face appropriate legal sanctions, reinforcing the government’s commitment to transparency and accountability in revenue administration.

The announcement, dated March 16, 2026, forms part of ongoing efforts by the Rivers State Government to streamline revenue collection and eliminate illegal practices within the system.

New Tax Law Needs to Be Domesticated in Rivers for Efficient Operations — RIRS Chairman, Sir Israel Egbunefu

- Disengages All Tax Agents, Moves to Block Revenue Leakages

- Educates The Public Against Illegal Demand Notices.

The Rivers State Internal Revenue Service (RIRS) has intensified efforts to block revenue leakages and expand the state’s tax net, assuring residents that no individual’s bank account will be debited directly by the agency in the name of tax collection.

The Executive Chairman of the Service, Sir Israel Onwuanaku Egbunefu, made this known during a tax sensitization programme on Rhythm FM in Port Harcourt, where he addressed public concerns and clarified misconceptions surrounding tax administration in the state.

Egbunefu explained that the agency’s renewed public engagement was necessary to reassure residents and educate taxpayers about the reforms currently being implemented within the system.

“We are here to inform the public and dispel misconceptions.
Nobody’s money will be taken from their bank account by RIRS in the name of taxes,” he said.

The RIRS chairman emphasized that the Service is prioritizing the registration of individuals and businesses into the tax system in order to clearly identify those who are liable to pay taxes and those who are not.

According to him, while many residents already comply with tax obligations, the agency is focusing on bringing into the tax net individuals and organizations who ought to be paying more but are currently not captured in the system.

“Rivers people do pay taxes, but our target is those who ought to pay more but are not even in our net. We are putting structures in place to track those who should be paying taxes but are not,” he stated.

Egbunefu further revealed that all tax agents previously engaged by the Service officially ceased operations on December 31, 2025, stressing that no external agent is currently authorized to collect taxes or issue demand notices on behalf of the agency.

“All previously engaged agents’ appointments ended on 31st December 2025. No agent has been empowered to deliver demand notices, receive money, or issue receipts on our behalf. We now serve demand notices directly,” he said.

He warned residents to be wary of individuals impersonating tax officials, noting that the agency’s Compliance and Enforcement team has already apprehended some suspects involved in such illegal activities.

“We are after those impersonating us. Our Compliance and Enforcement team recently made an arrest and the law will take its course,” he added.

The RIRS boss also disclosed that the Service is working towards a more transparent tax payment system by encouraging electronic payments and reducing the use of cash in tax transactions.

Egbunefu further stressed that tax compliance remains critical to the development of the state, noting that several infrastructure and development projects currently being executed by the State government across local government areas are funded through taxpayers’ contributions.

“The government of Rivers State is constructing and commissioning projects across the local government areas as a result of the people’s tax. Let us support government efforts by paying our taxes,” he urged.

Also speaking during the programme, the Director of Compliance and Enforcement at RIRS, Rosemary Ibitamuno Orubo, described taxation as a mandatory civic responsibility necessary for sustaining economic growth.

“Going forward, we want to deploy methods that will encourage electronic payment and reduce cash collections,” he said.

He encouraged taxpayers to contact the Service through its official telephone lines: 09042695681, 08154757369, 09034705252, 07065337954 or visit its headquarters located at Plot GS/1, Amadi-Ama Layout, Port Harcourt for clarification and assistance on tax matters.

The third batch of the Skills Acquisition and Empowerment Programme spearheaded by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement (South East), Barr. The participants are picked from all the LGAs in the South East region.

The initiative, designed to equip youths and women with practical, income-generating skills, is currently underway in key locations, including Uburu, with participants receiving hands-on training in fashion design, catering, hairdressing, ICT, photography, make-up artistry, and other creative and entrepreneurial trades.

Beyond vocational instruction, the programme integrates business development and financial literacy sessions aimed at strengthening entrepreneurship capacity, improving market readiness, and ensuring long-term sustainability for beneficiaries.

Barr. Nweze reiterated that sustainable development is anchored on empowering individuals to become economically self-reliant.

According to her, the programme reflects a broader vision to tackle unemployment, reduce poverty, and promote inclusive economic growth across the South East.

“Our vision is to raise a generation of skilled, confident, and self-sufficient young people who will not only create wealth for themselves but also contribute meaningfully to the economy of our region,” she stated.

Success stories from the first and second batches continue to validate the programme’s impact, with several beneficiaries reportedly establishing viable small-scale businesses and cooperatives within their communities.

Community leaders, youth representatives, and women groups across the region have commended Barr. Nweze’s consistent investment in human capital development, describing the initiative as a strategic intervention capable of driving long-term socio-economic transformation.

The ongoing training is scheduled to culminate in a graduation and empowerment ceremony later in the year, where participants will receive start-up kits and structured mentorship support to ease their transition into sustainable ventures.

PoliticsADC Accused Of Sponsoring Student Protest To Undermine Tinubu’s Road Infrastruct by DezMayorz(op): 12:30pm On Jan 27
ADC Accused of Sponsoring Student Protest to Undermine Tinubu’s Road Infrastructure Drive

Dez Mayorz Report.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has been accused of covertly sponsoring a coalition of student leaders to mobilise a nationwide protest against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration and the Federal Ministry of Works, in what observers describe as a calculated attempt to discredit ongoing federal infrastructure interventions.

The allegation follows a joint statement issued in Abuja by leaders of a group identifying itself as the Joint Council of Student Leaders, led by Comrade Josiah Peter Oche (President, National Association of University Students), alongside leaders of the National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) and the National Association of Nigeria Colleges of Education Students (NANCES).

The group announced plans for a nationwide protest scheduled for February 4, 2026, demanding increased federal attention to road infrastructure and calling for the removal of the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, over claims of alleged incompetence.

Political Undertones, Questioned Motives:
Critics have raised concerns over the political undertone of the planned protest, noting that the group’s rhetoric goes beyond advocacy and veers into open political agitation, including calls for the removal of senior government officials such as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio.

Analysts argue that such sweeping demands weaken the credibility of the protest and raise questions about external sponsorship and partisan motivation, particularly given claims that the ADC is backing the mobilisation as part of a broader strategy to “demarket” the Tinubu administration.

Claims Versus Verifiable Facts:
In his statement, Comrade Oche cited alleged failed federal roads as justification for the protest. However, independent checks at locations referenced by the group including the Unizik Permanent Site axis described as a “death trap”show ongoing rehabilitation works and completed sections handled by reputable contractors, contradicting the narrative of total neglect.

Observers argue that the inability of the student leaders to present verifiable data or project-specific failures undermines their claims and reinforces suspicions that the protest is less about infrastructure advocacy and more about political messaging.

Federal Infrastructure Push Under Tinubu:
Contrary to the allegations, the Tinubu administration has intensified road infrastructure delivery under the Renewed Hope Agenda, with the Federal Ministry of Works recording unprecedented activity nationwide.

Key highlights include:
Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway: A 700km legacy project spanning nine states, designed to transform trade, tourism, and regional connectivity.

Sokoto–Badagry Super Highway: A 1,068km north–south transport corridor aimed at boosting security, commerce, and national integration.

Nationwide Road Rehabilitation:
Over ₦2.2 trillion invested within two years, covering more than 440 ongoing projects and hundreds of completed palliative works across all geopolitical zones.

FEC-Approved Projects: Over ₦885 billion approved for major road reconstructions, including strategic corridors such as Lokoja–Benin.

Policy Reforms: Introduction of stricter contractor compliance rules to curb project delays and enhance accountability.

A Question of Credibility:
Political watchers warn that the growing use of student platforms for partisan battles risks eroding the moral authority of student unionism. While peaceful protest remains a constitutional right, critics insist that misinformation, exaggeration, and alleged sponsorship compromise legitimacy.

As one analyst put it, “When advocacy is driven by half-truths and political interests, it ceases to be activism and becomes propaganda.”

For many Nigerians, the unfolding controversy raises a broader question: Is this a genuine student-led call for accountability, or a politically engineered campaign aimed at weakening a government midway into its infrastructure drive?

RIRS Intensifies Effort to Boost IGR, Strengthen MDA Synergy Under New Tax Reform

- Reiterated that the new tax law enforces zero tolerance for cash collections.

The Rivers State Internal Revenue Service (RIRS) has intensified efforts to grow the State’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) by deepening strategic collaboration with Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in line with the new tax law.

On Monday, January 20, 2026, the Executive Chairman of RIRS, Sir Israel Egbunefu, alongside directors and senior management staff, convened a high-level engagement with Permanent Secretaries, Directors and representatives of key MDAs at the RIRS Headquarters in Port Harcourt.

Addressing the meeting, Sir Egbunefu stressed that effective revenue mobilization under the new tax regime demands collective responsibility and seamless cooperation across government institutions.

“RIRS is fully committed to strengthening the IGR framework as provided by the new tax laws. However, success depends on your active support. Every stakeholder must play their part to ensure that all revenues due to the State are properly collected and promptly remitted,” he said.

Participants from the MDAs contributed practical insights and recommendations aimed at enhancing efficiency, transparency, and accountability in revenue generation and remittance.

In his closing remarks, the RIRS Chairman explained that the renewed collaboration is designed to expand the tax base, improve revenue yield, and eliminate leakages across the revenue value chain. He emphasized that all revenues must be remitted strictly through designated government bank accounts, a measure intended to dismantle the activities of unauthorized intermediaries who exploit gaps between MDAs and RIRS, while also improving the ease of doing business in Rivers State.

Sir Egbunefu further noted that the initiative aligns with the State’s ongoing revenue digitization drive, anchored on the deployment of IPSAS Economic and Revenue Codes to enable accurate revenue tracking, monitoring, and performance-based evaluation of MDAs.

He reiterated that the new tax law enforces zero tolerance for cash collections or the use of Ministry Imprest Accounts for revenue purposes, warning that defaulters will be prosecuted.

Consequently, only payments made through approved PayDirect platforms are recognized as valid revenue, with POS terminals deployed at strategic locations to enhance accessibility, efficiency, and compliance.

The engagement marks another decisive step by RIRS to institutionalize transparency, strengthen inter-agency collaboration, and position Rivers State on a sustainable path of revenue growth under the new tax regime.

Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, CON, led a high-profile “Thank-You” visit that effectively brought the city to a standstill, underscoring his enduring influence and the organisational strength of the Port Harcourt City Local Government Area (PHALGA).

Hosted at the Community Primary School, Elekahia, the event was widely described by observers as the most expansive, vibrant and influential local government thanksgiving reception held so far in honour of the former Rivers State Governor. It drew an unprecedented convergence of political leaders, traditional rulers, party stakeholders across divides, and thousands of residents.

The reception was coordinated by the Mayor of Port Harcourt City Local Government Area, Sir Allwell Ihunda, DSSRS, JP, alongside leaders of the Rainbow Coalition and the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, reflecting uncommon unity and political cohesion at the grassroots.

In his welcome address, Mayor Ihunda expressed deep appreciation to Chief Wike for his continued leadership and support, particularly for the opportunity to serve a second term as Mayor. He reaffirmed the loyalty of Port Harcourt City residents to the Renewed Hope Administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and praised the historic appointment of Wike as FCT Minister — the first Southerner to hold the position since the creation of the territory.

The Mayor also highlighted the tangible benefits of Wike’s leadership over the years, citing infrastructural transformation across Port Harcourt communities, strengthened grassroots governance, and recent humanitarian interventions, including the distribution of food items during the festive season.

Speakers credited his early alignment with the Renewed Hope agenda as a decisive move that reshaped political calculations in Rivers State.

Responding, Chief Wike thanked the people of Port Harcourt City for their overwhelming turnout and steadfast support since the inception of the Tinubu administration in 2023. He described the visit as a deliberate gesture of appreciation, noting that the unity on display was a powerful signal of political maturity and confidence in the administration’s direction.

He urged sustained cooperation between leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the local level, stressing that effective governance requires synergy beyond party labels. Expressing optimism about the year ahead, the FCT Minister assured residents that 2026 would bring even greater progress, adding that Rivers State had once again demonstrated its unique ability to rise above partisan rivalry for the common good.

The event was attended by an array of political heavyweights, traditional authorities, elected officials, and cultural groups, turning the reception into both a political statement and a celebration of grassroots solidarity.
As chants of appreciation echoed through Elekahia, the message from Port Harcourt City was unmistakable: a reaffirmation of loyalty, unity, and confidence in leadership; and a clear demonstration of why the city remains a pivotal force in Rivers State politics.

Sir Israel Onwuanaku Egbunefu urged all eligible taxpayers to register with the Rivers State Internal Revenue Service, noting that proper registration will enable government to accurately identify taxable adults and clearly distinguish those exempted under the law.

He further disclosed that the new Tax Act has eliminated the multiplicity and duplication of taxes, thereby easing the burden on residents and businesses. In the same vein, he announced that road taxes have been banned from being collected, as part of efforts to sanitise the tax system and promote compliance.

The RIRS Chairman cautioned residents against paying taxes to individuals, stating emphatically that from 2026, all tax payments must be made directly into official government accounts. He advised taxpayers to always verify payment channels and seek clarification from the Revenue House whenever in doubt.

Sir Israel Onwuanaku Egbunefu also called for effective information sharing and stakeholder engagement, assuring that RIRS remains open and accessible to provide accurate and timely information. He urged taxpayers not to allow themselves to be misled by unverified rumours or false information, but to always rely on official communication from the Revenue House.

He emphasized that taxes generated by the state are critical to government’s ability to deliver quality infrastructure and people-oriented projects that positively impact the lives of citizens. He therefore charged residents to support government efforts by fulfilling their civic responsibility of paying taxes as and when due.

The RIRS Executive Chairman reaffirmed the Service’s commitment to transparency, stakeholder inclusion, and sustained public engagement as Rivers State prepares for the full implementation of the new tax regime.

Dez Mayorz Report.

Sir Egbunefu gave the assurance during his end-of-the-year briefing, where he addressed concerns and misinformation surrounding the new tax law. He emphasized that the law does not empower government to arbitrarily take money from citizens, contrary to claims circulating in some quarters.

According to him, the new tax framework introduces a more equitable system in which those who earn more but have not been paying taxes appropriately will now pay their fair share, while low-income earners are protected.

He clarified that individuals earning below ₦800,000 annually are exempted from tax, while those with lower income levels will pay correspondingly low taxes.

The RIRS chairman encouraged all eligible taxpayers to register with the Rivers State Internal Revenue Service, noting that proper registration will enable government to accurately identify taxable adults and clearly distinguish those who are exempted under the law.

Sir Egbunefu further disclosed that the new Tax Act has eliminated the multiplicity and duplication of taxes, stressing that the era of arbitrary levies is over. He announced that road taxes have been banned from being collected, in a move aimed at easing the burden on residents and businesses.

He warned taxpayers against paying taxes to individuals, stressing that from 2026, all taxes must be paid directly into official government accounts.

He advised residents to always verify payment channels and seek clarification directly from the Revenue House whenever in doubt.

The RIRS chairman called for effective information sharing and stakeholder engagement, assuring that the agency remains open and accessible to provide accurate information on tax matters. He cautioned taxpayers against relying on unverified rumours, urging them to always obtain information from credible and official sources.

Sir Egbunefu noted that tax revenue remains critical to government’s ability to deliver quality infrastructure and social projects that directly impact the lives of the people. He therefore charged residents to fulfil their civic responsibility by paying their taxes, describing it as a practical way of supporting governance and development in Rivers State.

He reaffirmed RIRS’ commitment to transparency, stakeholder inclusion, and continuous engagement as the state moves into the implementation phase of the new tax regime.

DMOMA Awards 2025: Prof. Justin Gabriel Charges Nigerians to Lead Change Through Integrity and Excellence

Dez Mayorz News.

Port Harcourt came alive with ideas, inspiration and purpose on Saturday, December 13, 2025, as renowned scholar and thought leader, Prof. Justin Gabriel, FAAN, FIMC, FAMN, FCIPDM, delivered a stirring keynote address at the 2025 Distinguished Merit & Outstanding Modern Achievers (DMOMA) Awards, held at the Hilltop Event Centre, GRA, Port Harcourt.

Speaking on the theme “The Impact of Individual Actions on Society: Empowering Excellence and Unlocking Human Potential,” Prof. Gabriel challenged individuals, leaders and institutions to recognise the immense power of personal choices in shaping families, organisations and society at large.

According to him, society is not an abstract entity but the direct product of human decisions and conduct. He noted that every action, spoken or unspoken; creates ripple effects capable of either transforming or destroying communities.

Drawing from an African proverb, he reminded the audience that “one lamp can light a thousand others,” stressing that history’s greatest shifts often begin with the resolve of one individual.

Prof. Gabriel emphasized that integrity and corruption both originate in the human heart, warning that private choices inevitably carry public consequences. He explained that small acts of honesty, kindness and professionalism can gradually build cultures of excellence, while minor acts of dishonesty can trigger widespread decay.

Highlighting character as the bedrock of societal progress, the keynote speaker quoted Ellen G. White, describing the world’s greatest need as people of unwavering conscience—men and women who cannot be bought or sold and who stand for what is right, regardless of pressure.

He described excellence not as a gift, but as a deliberate, repeated choice that eventually becomes a lifestyle.
Using relatable examples from education, business and community life, Prof. Gabriel illustrated how ethical leadership and courage can inspire trust, loyalty and innovation, while silence in the face of wrongdoing allows mediocrity and injustice to flourish.

He warned against the “dark side of influence,” noting that a single negligent or dishonest individual can undermine an entire system if negative behaviour is tolerated.
A major highlight of the address was his call to unlock human potential through vision, discipline and compassion.

He stressed that every individual possesses untapped gifts that, when activated, can drive societal advancement. According to him, culture itself is simply the sum of individual habits, and what society tolerates today ultimately defines its future.

Prof. Gabriel concluded by urging Nigerians to “be the example,” introducing what he described as the “10 S’s of Integrity and Excellence”practical principles ranging from showing up and speaking truth, to shunning shortcuts, respecting others, submitting quality work and maintaining integrity even in private life.

He ended with a powerful charge: that great societies are built by ordinary people making extraordinary choices consistently.

Change, he said, begins with one person daring to live right, act courageously and inspire others by example.

The 2025 DMOMA Awards, which celebrates outstanding individuals and institutions across various sectors, once again proved to be more than an awards ceremony; serving as a platform for thought leadership, national reflection and a renewed call to purposeful living anchored on integrity and excellence.

Celebration In Bonny & Ogoni As Tinubu Flags Off Temporary Use of Bodo–Bonny Road, Ending Decades of Difficult River Crossings

Dez Mayorz News.

A new chapter opened for Bonny Kingdom and the Ogoni axis on Monday as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu officially flagged off the temporary use of the 37.9-kilometre Bodo–Bonny Road, bringing long-awaited relief to communities that have endured decades of tough river crossings and costly helicopter trips.

The multi-billion-naira project, awarded on December 11, 2014, and constructed by Julius Berger Nigeria Plc since October 20, 2017, has now reached 90.98% completion.

Represented by the Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, President Tinubu described the road as a “flagship accomplishment” of his Renewed Hope Agenda, celebrating what he called a historic breakthrough for the people.

“The dream of the Bonny Kingdom has come true; the dream of the Bodo Kingdom has come true,” he said. “No more risky journeys across the busy Bonny River, no more expensive helicopter rides, no more hardship to reach this blessed island.”

Temporary Opening With Strict Conditions
The President announced that the road is being opened for the Yuletide to ease travel, but under restricted conditions:

Access allowed only from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily
Only light vehicles permitted
Motorcycles, tricycles and heavy-duty trucks barred
Full completion expected by March 2026.
Senator Umahi added that night travel will remain suspended until all safety installations are in place.

Tinubu Requests Trailer Park Land to Protect the Road:
To prevent premature deterioration of the road, President Tinubu appealed to the Rivers State Government to provide 20 plots of land each in Bodo and Bonny for the development of trailer parks.

He commended Julius Berger and singled out the project manager, Mr. Tim Nippert, for his exceptional commitment.

“I have made a special commendation to Engineer Tim. If he were the Managing Director of Julius Berger, many of the conflicts we experienced elsewhere would not have occurred,”
the President remarked.

Rivers Government, National Assembly Leaders, Traditional Rulers Hail the Milestone:
Representing Governor Siminalayi Fubara, the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba, expressed deep appreciation to President Tinubu for rescuing the project from years of uncertainty.

“This may be a temporary opening, but it brings permanent joy to the people of Bonny, Bodo and Rivers State. Like Oliver Twist, we will ask for more,” he said.

Chairman of the Senate Committee on Works, Senator Barinada Mpigi, lauded the President for what he described as an unmistakable show of love to the Ogoni people.

Also present at the ceremony were SSA to the President on Community Engagement (South East), Barr. Chioma Nweze, National Assembly Committee Chairmen on Works, and traditional rulers from the host communities.

Julius Berger Confirms Delivery Timeline:
Project Manager Tim Nippert revealed that 35 kilometres of the dual carriageway are now fully motorable, assuring that the remaining sections and 11 bridges will be ready for commissioning in the first quarter of 2026.

A Landmark Link to a Strategic Economic Hub
The Bodo–Bonny Road is the first federal road to directly connect the mainland to Bonny Island, home to Nigeria LNG and other multi-billion-dollar energy investments. Its temporary opening marks a transformative step for commerce, mobility and safety in the region.

Hon. Abinye Blessing Pepple, Chairman of Bonny Local Government Area, praised President Tinubu’s unwavering commitment and expressed optimism that the project will finally reach completion under the current administration.
