Nairaland / General / Video: Elon Musk Reveals Neuralink Microchip For Human Brain Is Ready From 2022 by Dezon01(m): 3:58pm On Jan 08, 2022
Elon Musk, the world’s richest man, has revealed progress on the microchip that his company, Neuralink, is currently developing.

The Neuralink Corporation is a neurotechnology firm that creates implantable brain-machine interfaces.

Musk recently revealed that monkey testing has been very successful, and that the next stage is for humans.

Elon Musk’s brain-interface technology company, Neuralink, has announced that it is ready to implant microchips into human brains.

According to Elon Musk, the chip will aid in the restoration of functionality to those suffering from paralysis and other types of brain challenges.

He went on to say that the chips, which will be implanted into people’s brains, are intended to record and stimulate brain activity, with the goal of assisting those suffering from serious spinal cord injuries and neurological disorders.

Musk said at the Wall Street Journal’s CEO Council Summit that he doesn’t want to “raise hopes unreasonably,” but that he is “increasingly confident” that the technology is nearly ready for humans (pending Food and Drug Administration approval).

His statement reads:

“Neuralink’s working well in monkeys, and we’re actually doing a lot of testing, and confirming that it’s very safe and reliable, and that the Neuralink device can be removed safely,”

“I think we have a chance with Neuralink to restore full-body functionality to someone who has a spinal cord injury.”

Defining the application Musk stated that the chip could theoretically allow someone who is paralyzed to use a smartphone with their mind.

“Later versions will be able to shunt signals from Neuralinks in brain to Neuralinks in body motor/sensory neuron clusters, thus enabling, for example, paraplegics to walk again”

Musk also announced in July of last year that he was working on a microchip that would allow wearers to stream music directly into their brains – it’s unclear whether this is the same device.

Neuralink released a video of a monkey playing a video game using one of the company’s devices in April 2021. Initially, the monkey moves a joystick while the microchip records its brain activity.
