Centre for the Vulnerable and Underprivileged, CENTREP, on Monday called on Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari to release Omoyele Sowore with immediate effect from the custody of the Department of State Services, DSS, because of revolution.

The human activist group condemned Sowore’s call for a revolution against the Buhari-led Federal Government.

The revolution protest was expected to take place nationwide on Monday, August 05, 2019, but failed to hold in Warri and other place in the Delta state in south-south Nigeria.

The Executive Director of CENTREP, Mr. Oghenejabor Ikimi Esq urged the president to free Sowore because Buhari also had called for a revolution in 2011.

He insisted the President Buhari had called for Revolution when Goodluck Johnathan was in Power through his Aide, Mr. Odumakin.


“On that basis, his Government should release Omoyele immediately. However, I am not in support of a revolution in this Country. He made his submission.

“If a revolution starts now, those who called for it will fly out of the Country and it is the poor masses that will suffer the brunt of violent change of Government.”

Mr. Ikimi cited the Nigerian constitution on Section 39 Subsection 31 that every citizens has right to freedom of expression and peaceful assembly, stressing that the constitution does not recognize revolution. His thought

He went further to Section 45 Subsection 1 of the Constitution as amended, that State can withdraw the rights to freedom of expression and peaceful assembly of any citizen if there’s a threat to defense, security, public peace, morality and public order.

Ikimi said revolution is not needed at the moment in the Nigeria, “Omoyele should keep his revolution till 2023 and express it through the ballot box.” He said

APC withdraws petition against Gov. Fintiri

The election tribunal sitting in Yola, capital of Adamawa state had dramatic experience as the counsels to APC conflicted themselves in motions.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa state seeks to withdraw a motion of petition against the declaration of Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri as the winner of the governorship election in the state.

The motion filed by the APC in the State Election Petition Tribunal to withdraw the petition is dramatic to the Peoples Democratic Party's fold.

This news media recalls that Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of the People’s Democratic Party won ex-governor Jibrilla Bindow of APC in the 2019 governorship contest.

However, the ex-governor, Jibrilla Bindow congratulated the winner (Fintri) but his party (APC) went on to the tribunal to challenge the decision of INEC for declaring PDP’s candidate winner of the guber race.

The tribunal sitting resumed on Tuesday in the state capital, Yola.

APC brought a motion to withdraw the petition but was in disorder as another legal team of APC claimed to have filed a counter motion on the same issue

Smart Ukpanah, the lead Counsel to APC, told the tribunal that his client had filed another motion seeking to discontinue with the case.
