 Politics › BREAKING: Senate Passes Local Govt Autonomy Bill by Diamond4Alisa(op): 3:00pm On Mar 01, 2022 |
The Nigerian Senate under the leadership of Ahmed Lawan on Tuesday, passed the Bill granting full autonomy to the local government and council areas in Nigeria. Out of 109 Members of the Senate, 92 members voted overwhelmingly in support of the Bill, after a clause-by-clause consideration at the Committee on the Whole. While in the house of representative the bill to create a special account through which funds for local governments will be paid directly from the Federation Account had 257 ‘YES’ votes while 9 persons voted ‘NO.’ For the local government autonomy, 258 members of the House of representatives voted ‘YES’ while 15 voted ‘NO’. Our chickens and guinea fowls are coming home to roost. Atiku’s son is positive. He is in Gwagwalada hospital . He can’t fly to Dubai. The president is in town. There are no international conferences. If he needs attention, he will have to use the state clinic. That expression ‘we die here’ is now so real. Once we become full of the virus, no one will allow any of us into their country. If we have no test kits, then we stay here and dig graves and bury our dead. If we have no ventilators, then we will use table fans. And die like that. We die here. Abi? If the Bishops and Imams refuse to listen, they will listen when the churches and mosques are filled with sorrow tears and coffins. If NASS members won’t submit themselves to tests at the airports, the chambers will become filled with Corona virus and become distinguished viral laboratories. President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC to reduced the price of petrol to N125 per litre. Buhari made this pronouncement after the Federal Executive Council, FEC, meeting and ordered that, this adjustment takes immediately. The federal government said this reduction to N125 is to reflect global market realities. Speaking on behalf of the President, the minister of Petroleum resources (state) Timipre Sylva told journalist that compliance by petroleum marketers is to be enforced by the NNPC and the PPPRA. Sylva, noted that the price slash will affect all products, adding that their prices are also to be set by the PPPRA and the NNPC. Meanwhile, the government will provide a framework for the sustainable supply of PMS to Nigeria.
