Congratulations @Diceman8

Please when you went for your interview, did you submit both the application and declaration forms, or just the visa form?
This is everything i was asked to bring. But the interviewer always asked me if i came with any additional documents. And i went with the declaration

Please can anyone assist with this question?
The only other option ive seen is to indicate youre using a hotel. It didnt work for some people here though

Congratulations Bro.
Just to be clear, when they mention "no job applications/interview" as reason for visa rejection, I don't think they are referring to job applications made specifically to companies in Germany. I think they are referring to job applications/interviews and work experiences one has had in his/her chosen field of study/expertise. What do you think? Could you please shed more light on this. Thanks.
To be honest, they just asked me if i have started applying for jobs in germany and how its going if i got any replies etc. I told them i started before but stopped as i didnt know when i was getting an interview because the process has been slow. So i told them ive started applying again since i got an interview date

Congratulations bro, please I’d like to confirm the valid from period of your visa stamp. Is it a couple weeks away from the day you got it (today). And does it align with the intended travel date you filled in the videx form or it’s different.
It doesnt align and its 4 days after the day i got it. Thats when i can travel

Hi guys, just wanted to let you know i got my visa today. I went on interview on 13 january and my visa was shipped on the 30th, thats less than 3 weeks.

Final tips for everyone to be successful
- The more documents you have the better, for example if they asked for school leaving certificate ofcourse some people here have had success with just testimonial or waec. I would advise to get all of them as its safer. If you cant get all just do what you can, the more the better.

- Dress well and casual for the interview. When i went to the embassy i was surprised seeing some people dressing like theyre going to a club, wearing slides etc. Wear clean and mature. You dont need to wear suit or anything but atleast a long sleeve shirt and some covered shoes

- The test given during the interview is always mostly repeated either from student visa or from chancenkarte. Check online or ask ai and search for your course and questions for this test and you could actually go there and see its all repeated questions like it happened to me.

- German isnt necessary as most of you know. But knowing just abit of it and saying you are learning will help. Tell the vo youre learning and say some stuff youve already learned like introducing yourself.

- I had no document of jobsearch applications etc. But i wilk exclude this in my case because i have worked in germany before.

- Nigerians have alot of issues with their names and i also faced this issue with the VO to the point she didnt trust or believe i was actually this person. Birthdates and names are veryyy veryyy important. So make sure you get an affidavit from highcourt that is veryyyy detailed as she told me that my affidavit wasnt detailed at all, it said nothing.

- Be calm and confident. The interview is basically just a discussion and most of the questions are from your documents and application

I wish you all the best as this has been a long and painful process, taking over a year for me in total.
Goodluck to all of you and i wish you the best

You can update your arrival date if youre using expatrio. Just update that and generate a new health insurance

It's junior WAEC certificate and seeing as you do not know what it means, I'm assuming it's not one of the documents you were asked to submit?
All you need to submit for school report:
Testimonial for jss and sss
Waec/neco
TravelRe: Migrating To Germany For Free : The Chancekarte Discussions by Diceman8: 12:15pm On Jan 11
So let me get this straight. After the interview it takes about 2-3months to get the visa itself correct? From the people ive seen here it seems like thats the case
TravelRe: Migrating To Germany For Free : The Chancekarte Discussions by Diceman8: 2:43pm On Dec 27, 2025
Yes bro i had alot of issues with them too. For example they told me to make corrections and somehow they disabled the ability to upload documents or add comments. It was frustrating

Talk2Bella:
OMG... when I was asked to upload the PR document and i updated the reference type, the person reviewing my case kept asking me to change it to "Hotel" which was impossible as I had no backend access, when I mentioned it was impossible to do so, they realised this and deleted it themselves then asked me to update videx to hotel, which was/is another impossible task as the OPC videx doesn't have "Hotel" as a reference type.
TravelRe: Migrating To Germany For Free : The Chancekarte Discussions by Diceman8: 10:37pm On Dec 26, 2025
just to let you know i had the same issue as @talk2bella

I first used "reference person" as my reference and then they asked for me to provide first his residence permit but he wasnt a german citizen, he is a european citizen, so i told them and then they asked for me to submit both his passport and Meldebestätigung (proof of residence)
My reference was my former boss in germany so i didnt want to ask him for something so private and sensitive. So i changed my reference to Educational establishment/company/organisation and i booked a hotel, inserted the details etc, they then called me and said i needed to submit his passport and Meldebestätigung and they didnt accept my hotel booking.
So i had to get his passport and Meldebestätigung to get to the interview stage. i hope theres a way to get over this because people that know no one in germany will have no way for this route to work.

Tifay:
Thanks.

What about those that dont have anyone over there. What do they put in there?

Or are saying only those who used the reference of a German legal resident have successfully scaled through

same problem I faced, I had to change the reference type from a person to org/est/sch
And have you gotten a reply or interview date?
TravelRe: Migrating To Germany For Free : The Chancekarte Discussions by Diceman8: 11:53am On Dec 11, 2025
They asked me for " residence permit of reference in germany" but my reference is a european citizen so they dont have a residence permit. What should i do here lol
TravelRe: Migrating To Germany For Free : The Chancekarte Discussions by Diceman8: 5:48am On Dec 06, 2025
Talk2Bella:
this isn't true, if you chose reference instead or org/education, you'd have to provide PR of the said reference in germany. If you chose the later, your chosen residence info should suffice.
Can you be more clear?
TravelRe: Migrating To Germany For Free : The Chancekarte Discussions by Diceman8: 5:18pm On Dec 05, 2025
as @ZiggyZiggy said i can confirm, they ask for additional document which is the "residence permit of your reference" so yes if you dont know any permanent residence that lives in germany, this route has now become impossible for you, not everyone will hand out a sensitive document like this.
TravelRe: Migrating To Germany For Free : The Chancekarte Discussions by Diceman8: 4:52pm On Dec 03, 2025
As far as i can tell. Preliminary review is still in ending april up to june. So most people have submitted their documents and still waiting for interview. Preliminary review wait time is currently 4-8 weeks, with corrections it could be more.

Note: some people somehow get interviews even if they applied later than some others, i dont know how this works but it could either be those people dont remember when they joined the waiting list or the people handling their cases are faster? Who knows lol

Singlefile:
Please, have they gotten to July for the preliminary review, or please, which month are they now? I am August and I just want to use the info for my guide
TravelRe: Migrating To Germany For Free : The Chancekarte Discussions by Diceman8: 4:36pm On Dec 03, 2025
No bro. At this point i dont think anything is going to happen till next year because of christmas holiday. Again some of us might get cleared as they might rush some stuff before christmas.

The german government is very slow with everything related to immigration, when i was living there it was the same. Especially during peak busy months from september to december. Everything should be faster after january though

Just so everyone knows. The current total wait time is over a year, the preliminary review correction alone can take 4-6 weeks. So patience is needed if youre going through this method

Helenaaa:
Hey guys 👋🏾

I went for my interview, and I just wanted to share my full experience for anyone preparing for theirs.

I arrived at the embassy by 6:30 AM, my appointment printout was stamped 6:33 and my interview was supposed to be scheduled for 7:30 AM but I went in way earlier because I arrived early. I was among the first set of people there, and I was actually the second person the interviewer called in.

A lady attended to me. At first, she seemed a bit uptight, just collecting and checking my documents quietly. But after a little while, she loosened up and became friendlier. She carefully reviewed all my documents, removed what she didn’t need, and basically did all the administrative checks before moving on to the interview questions.

Here’s how the questions went:
1. She started with my education background; when I graduated and when I went for NYSC.
2. She didn’t ask me to “walk through my career” in detail. She only asked for my current role and what my company does.
3. She asked about my family in Germany.
4. She also asked about my travel history, specifically how many times I’ve been to Germany and the purpose of my visits.
5. Then came the popular question: “Why Germany?” I explained my reasons clearly.
6. After that, she asked a very important one: “What if you don’t get a job?” this question had a lot of emphasis, so please, take note.

👉🏾 My advice: When answering this question, don’t just talk about what you’ll do alone. Make sure to end your answer by stating clearly that you will not overstay your visa if you don’t find a job. It’s very important to make that clear. it shows responsibility and respect for immigration rules. That’s my two cents.
7. Another question that stood out was: “What is your future after Germany?” In other words, after you get a job in Germany, what next? What’s your long-term plan for your career and yourself? She emphasized this one too, so it’s worth preparing for.
8. She also asked whether I speak German (Deutschkenntnisse) or if I’m learning it.

Then came the written test section.

Since my academic background isn’t same as my career, she gave me questions related to my academic background but honestly, it’s been a while since I studied that, so I wasn’t confident about the answers. I politely asked if I could take an IT-related test instead, since I currently work as a DA.

She agreed and gave me the IT test. It had 10 questions in total, 5 simple calculation-based questions (which I could handle) and 5 computer science questions that were more theoretical (like operating systems and core computer science concepts). Those ones were a bit outside my area, but I did what I could.

And that was it!

So yeah, that’s my full experience. Wish me luck 🤞🏾.

Hopefully, this helps someone who’s preparing for theirs. Most of what I experienced is similar to what others have shared, but I wanted to highlight the extra questions and the ones with emphasis, especially:
• “What if you don’t get a job?” → Be prepared and always end by saying you won’t overstay your visa.
• “What is your future after Germany?” → Think about your long-term career plans.

Add this to what you’ve already read from others. Every little detail helps.
Would be great if you can type out a sample question even if you dont remember it clearly for the field related written test

From my knowledge you cant apply from abuja unless youre a "special person" so like someone big in politics etc. Unless thats changed you have to apply in lagos

Ok, so I woke up around 6am this morning to my own set of corrections grin. Was asked to make an affidavit of declaration of age and also write a motivation letter. That shouldn't be a problem. But my biggest worry is the reference page. I provided a reference that stays here in nigeria and for the corrections, they are requesting I provide a reference that stays in germany. I do not have anyone that stays in germany let alone use as a reference. How did you go about this in your case?
How many days were you allowed to make your corrections??
Hey bro. Congratulations, let us know how long, preliminary review to interview takes.

---- for the reference : the "reference" line is just a standard field on many embassy forms.

It's meant for applicants who already have someone in Germany - like a friend, employer, or host - but it's optional for those applying independently

You can fill it in like this (any of these are fine):

Option 1 - If you have no one there:

Reference in Germany: None (I do not have a contact person in Germany yet.)

Option 2 - If you have a temporary accommodation booked:

Reference in Germany: [Hotel or Airbnb name] Address: [Address of accommodation] Email/Phone: [If available]

Option 3 - If you plan to stay in a specific city but haven't booked yet:

Reference in Germany: Not applicable Planned city of stay: [City name, e.g., Berlin, Munich, Hamburg]

Just make sure not to leave it empty
TravelRe: Migrating To Germany For Free : The Chancekarte Discussions by Diceman8: 12:40am On Oct 06, 2025
Hello, as i stated in my previous post. It is a very busy period right now as the german government is dealing with "students" their residence permits etc. Everything has slowed down including the opportunity card applications. So all our processes will probably slow down by 1-2months as thats the average time it takes for students to recieve their residence permits in germany. So i would say around mid october or ending of october everything should be back to normal.

luckygirl02:
Anyone heard back from ZAB past three months? I sent in an application on 6th of July and nothing yet till date. It will be three months exactly tomorrow.
TravelRe: Migrating To Germany For Free : The Chancekarte Discussions by Diceman8: 12:17pm On Oct 03, 2025
Okay now that i found another person to confirm this. Theres 3 of us that i know of in ending april that have been in preliminary review foe over 4 weeks now.

Word of caution to everyone in the forum. The process has significantly slowed down, i am guessing it has to do with the amount of new people that entered germany "mainly students" september is a busy month for that so the government is probably really busy!.

And to everyone else that has seen their estimated time moved up from 2-8 weeks to 2-6months its probably true because they dont actually know when they will get to you at this point if april people have been waiting for 4 weeks on preliminary review alone. Only god knows how long it will take

EAJG:
Hi everyone, I joined the wait list on the 24th of April and submitted my documents for preliminary review on the 2nd of September.
My application has been on preliminary review since 2nd Sept and a bit concerned. From what I gathered here most people, the preliminary review takes 1-2 weeks.
Any one with a similar situation or has past the preliminary stage recently should please share timelines
