History of Peoples Club of Nigeria International (PCNI) The People's Club of Nigeria was founded by Nigerians who are impelled by the desire to foster good relations amongst mankind and to sponsor and promote charitable and philanthropic causes. Peoples club was formed in 1971 in Aba (Abia state of Nigeria) by a small group of individuals led by Chief Titus I. Ume-Ezeoke. This was at a period of hopelessness following the devastation of the Nigeria civil war which ended in 1970. The Club was formed with the spirit of uniting people of like-minds, for social interaction. The formation was timely and extensively welcomed because of the Club's founding principle which reads "be your brother's Keeper" and was also embodied in it's motto: Unity, love and Service Since the formation, the Club has grown extensively. BY the year 2000, there was a branch of Peoples Club in every major city in Nigeria. Peoples Club headquarters is located in Onitsha, Anambra State of Nigeria. Peoples Club is often imitated but seldom duplicated. Since 1971, there have been other clubs tried to compete with Peoples Club, but could not compete. This is why Peoples Club is a privilege to belong. Membership is open to all irrespective of race, religion or tribe. The Club is non political.

A human rights group in Nigeria, the Centre for Human Rights and Social Justice (CHRSJ) has called on the newly appointed Minister of Defence, Monsur Dan-Ali and the authority of the Nigeria Army to bring out the controversial Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSCE) of the President and Commander-in-Chief of Armed Forces, General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd). General Buhari had before the election insisted that his controversial original Certificate was with the authority of the Nigeria Army. The rights group in the seven (7) days ultimatum said that failure of President Buhari to order the authority of Nigerian Army as their Commander-in-Chief, to release his original Senior School Certificate, which he used to be enlisted in the Army, would amount to “blatant lie of the highest order from the acclaimed incorruptible President Buhari.” In a statement issued and signed by the CHRSJ’s Executive Chairman, Comrade Adeniyi Alimi Sulaiman, he said, “Following the recent statement credited to the new Defence Minister, Monsur Dan-Ali over disappearance of the purported original Secondary School Certificate of General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) in the custody of Nigeria Army, which General Buhari claimed to be with the Country’s Military authority, prior to the 2015 presidential election. General Buhari has become elected President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria now and he is the Commander-in-Chief of Armed Forces, no Military authority will have temerity to keep his Military Service file now and he should not hesitate to order them to bring out his (Buhari) original controversial Secondary School Certificate now within seven (7) days for doubting Thomas to see. “We believe that if you are preaching equity, you must come with clean hands. Failure to bring the Certificate out within the stipulated time would tantamount to the country being governed by the un-certificated President and former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Kenneth Minimah will be vindicated for saying the truth that the controversial Buhari’s certificate was not with the authority of the Nigeria Army then and new Defence Minister, Monsur Dan-Ali, will be disappointed”. CHRSJ boss, therefore, maintained that the group would not hesitate to write the International Communities as being empowered by the Freedom of Information Act, to prevail on the authority of the Nigeria Army to bring out the controversial original Secondary School Certificate of Mr. President, explaining that the human rights group would not allow the Nigeria Army and President Muhammadu Buhari to lay down bad precedent in our democratic system. Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose, has said that President Mohammadu Buhari should be held responsible should anything untoward happen to the former National Security Adviser (NSA), Col Sambo Dasuki (rtd), saying; “the Department of State Services (DSS) placement of the former NSA under house arrest despite court order that his international passport be released so that he can travel abroad for medical treatment is wicked, inhuman, dictatorial and a clear attempt to deny him of his rights to life as enshrined in the Constitution of Nigeria.” The governor, who hailed today’s Abuja Federal High Court ruling, ordering the DSS to allow Dasuki to travel out of the country for medical treatment, added that; “Nigerians, especially men of the judiciary must join hands to shake dictatorship off the body of President Buhari and his hatchet man, Alhaji Lawal Daura.” According to the Special Assistant to the governor on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, Governor Fayose said he was particularly happy that Justice A?demola Adeniyi, insisted that court order must be obeyed and that his own orders will not be flouted, pointing out that “Nigerians, who fought late General Sanni Abacha to a standstill will fight this emerging Buhari’s ‘militocracy’, which is a clear threat to our hard-earned democracy.” The governor said he was already vindicated on his earlier position that the Director General of DSS, Lawal Daura who is President Buhari’s kinsman, was an instrument of political persecution. He likened the Director General of DSS to Mohammed Lawal Rafindadi, of the Nigerian Security Organisation (NSO) that was also used by Buhari as instrument of political persecution between 1984 and 1985. Governor Fayose said President Buhari should be reminded that the Nigeria of 1984 that he ruled like a fiefdom is different from that of 2015. The governor said; “President Buhari seized late Chief Obafemi Awolowo international passport and prevented him from travelling abroad for medicare in 1985, thereby leading to his (Awolowo) untimely death of 1987. “Buhari also hounded former Bayelsa State Governor, Diepreye Alamieyeseigha to death all in the name of fighting perceived political opponents. “Therefore, it has become necessary to raise the alarm that nothing must happen to Dasuki. “The fate that befell Awolowo in 1985 must not be allowed to befall Sambo Dasuki in 2015 and Nigerians must rise against this Buhari’s dictatorship and his instrument of oppression, Lawal Daura.” Source: http://dailyindependentnig.com/2015/11/hold-buhari-responsible-if-anything-happens-to-dasuki-fayose-tells-nigerians/ |

Eniola Akinkuotu Some of the policemen who embarked on an illegal raid in the FESTAC area of Lagos State and tortured 30 persons including a journalist last week, may be charged with armed robbery, PUNCH Metro has learnt. PUNCH Metro had reported that a journalist, Femi Owolabi, was arrested alongside 30 others around Rapongi night club, FESTAC, and driven to the State Department of Criminal Investigation, Yaba and all their valuables – including money – were collected from them. The policemen, who are attached to the Anti-Robbery section, allegedly collected between N5,000 and N10,000 from each of the victims before releasing them. Some of the victims were said to have been driven to a Zenith Bank branch in FESTAC around 4am and were forced to withdraw money from the ATM which they used in ‘buying’ their freedom. A reliable police source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told our correspondent that the policemen would undergo an orderly room trial at the Lagos State Police command headquarters, Ikeja. He added that the policemen would be grilled by a panel of senior officers who would determine their level of complicity and the punishment to be meted out to them. The source added that after dismissal, the policemen would be dragged to court to face robbery charges. He explained that since most of the cops belonged to the rank and file, it would be very easy for the Lagos CP to dismiss them He said, “So far, only the journalist (Owolabi) has been able to write a statement. He met with the CP on Wednesday and was able to identify the nine policemen paraded at the CP’s office. The CP has said the policemen will undergo an orderly room trial. “At the trial, senior officers will determine the appropriate punishment for each policeman. Depending on the level of complicity, some of them might be demoted while others would be dismissed. “However, the CP has said those found worthy of dismissal should be charged with armed robbery. The CP said since the victims were made to part with money at gunpoint, the policemen committed armed robbery and should be charged to court.” The source told PUNCH Metro that policemen attached to the Anti-Robbery Section usually embarked on illegal raids on Fridays when most senior officers were away. He said the policemen took advantage of the fact that policemen attached to the SDCI were not bound by jurisdiction like their counterparts attached to police divisions. He added, “These policemen usually go on illegal raids on Fridays and arrest people around night clubs or pubs. They know that fun-seekers usually go to clubs with cash and that is what these policemen try to take advantage of.” The source told PUNCH Metro that some of the valuables of other victims had been recovered from the errant policemen. “Unfortunately, only the journalist (Owolabi) has come forward to write a statement. We will be happy if the others who were arrested on that fateful night would be brave enough to come forward to assist with investigations and claim their valuables,” he said. The Lagos police boss, when contacted on the telephone, had said he would not comment further on the case so as not to jeopardise investigations. However, the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Joe Offor, said the CP had directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the SDCI to investigate the matter and send a report to the command headquarters. A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Mr. Olisa Agbakoba, told our correspondent that the errant policemen indeed deserved to be charged with armed robbery. Agbakoba, who is a former President of the Nigerian Bar Association, described the case as a huge scandal and urged the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase, to use the case as an opportunity to launch a police reform. He said, “Policemen dragging people to ATM points at gunpoint is unheard of. Indeed, this is more than armed robbery. It dents the image of the police and the IG must ensure that those policemen are prosecuted for bringing shame to the Force.” Source: http://punchng.com/2015/11/4319 |

Imo State governor Rochas Okorocha has described the leader of the Movement for the Actualisation of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), Chief Ralph Uwazuruike as the greatest enemy of the Igbo race who uses the platform to exploit the people and enrich himself. The governor made this remark yesterday while reacting to a report credited to the MASSOB leader. A statement issued by the chief press secretary to the governor, Sam Onwuemeodo, explained that all over the world, the real enemies of the people were those who failed or refused to tell them the truth. The statement reads, “In the reports in question, Chief Uwazuruike was quoted to have said that apart from governor Okorocha being Igbo saboteur, he has also been aiding and abetting the All Progressives Congress, APC-led Federal Government in the continued marginalisation of the Igbo, and then asked the Igbos to ignore the governor. “Although Chief Uwazuruike had made his claim and his allegation, the indisputable fact remains that the real Igbo saboteur is Chief Uwazuruike himself and not Governor Okorocha. “Obviously, what must have prompted Chief Uwazuruike’s media attack on Governor Okorocha this time was the Governor’s condemnation of the violent protest in the name of Biafra some weeks ago, and his remark that Igbo people would not use MASSOB as a platform to ask for what is due for them in an entity called Nigeria, but, the truth must be told.” Source: http://leadership.ng/news/472357/uwazuruike-greatest-enemy-of-igbo-race-gov-okorocha |
