In a celebratory style, reflecting on his accomplishments in the Nigeria movie landscape, veteran Nollywood co-pioneer and Actor, Adebayo Salami, profoundly known as Oga Bello to celebrate his 60th anniversary on stage with a movie titled, 'Her Excellency'.

Speaking at a media parley this week, Salami revealed that his anticipated movie, is a remake of one of his films, ‘Agbara Obirin’, meaning the power of a woman.

Attributing his success in the industry to God, Oga Bello said, “I give all the glory to Almighty Allah. I couldn’t have come this far if not for his grace. I remember years ago when I thought I couldn’t do it anymore, when the leader of our theatre group, Ojo Ladipo, died in 1978, and the responsibility was solely on me.

But, God was with me; so, I am grateful to him. Then, we would travel from state to state, and the journey was all God’s grace. Also, I move with time, and I am still learning the current ways of making films.

“You cannot compare the old ways of movie making with what obtains presently. Learning is a lifelong process, so I am learning from Femi (his son, who also attended the parley) now.”

Nigeria, the most populous African Nation has ranked 7th among the world’s friendliest countries to strangers, according to the UN’s 2025 World Happiness Report.

The annual report, compiled by the University of Oxford’s Wellbeing Research Centre in partnership with Gallup and the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network, evaluates 147 countries on self-reported well-being and prosocial behaviours such as donating, volunteering, and helping others.

Despite ranking high for acts of spontaneous kindness, Nigeria placed 105th overall in happiness, reflecting poor life satisfaction and systemic shortcomings.

The report noted a clear gap between informal generosity and institutional trust: a pattern seen across several African countries.

When asked about the likelihood of a lost wallet being returned, Nigeria ranked 33rd if found by a stranger, 71st if found by a neighbour, and 126th if found by the police, underscoring the country’s weak confidence in law enforcement and public systems.

Following the gruesóme massacre of over 100 humans, including children and women in Yelwata Community and other communities in Benue state, the the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has evacuated its members from the crisis-ridden communities of Yelwata and Daudu to safer locations in Makurdi, the state capital.

The evacuation followed deadly confrontations that left dozens dead and communities in fear, prompting urgent intervention by authorities to prevent harm to serving corps members.

On Tuesday, officers of the Nigeria Anti Graft agency, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) nabbed a former Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Mr. Moses Thomas Sule, alongside 14 other former lawmakers, over alleged money laundering and abuse of procurement processes.

The arrest stemmed from a series of petitions from concerned citizens of Plateau State accusing the lawmakers of violating the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.

According to preliminary findings by the EFCC, the accused legislators, who served for only six months, allegedly benefited from the purchase of luxury vehicles by the state government valued at over N2.5 billion.

The vehicles were reportedly procured in their official capacities without following due process.

Veteran Oyo-born Radio Broadcaster and Founder of Oyo-based Radio station, Agidigbo 88.7 FM has knocked critics, who despised his interest to vie for the Governorship seat in Oyo state.

Oriyomi maintained that he has better chances to win the governorship election in Oyo State if he decides to contest in 2027.

He disclosed this in a live broadcast with a caller from abroad who advised him against running for the Office of Governor of Oyo come 2027.

A Ponzi scheme platform alleged to have defrauded Nigerian investors of trillions of Naira, Crypto Bridge Exchange, CBEX has resumed operation across the country weeks after it suddenly halted business and made away with hundreds of thousands of dollars belonging to unsuspecting Nigerian investors.

According to investors whose money was whisked away by the digital financial platform, CBEX, they were asked to return to the scheme’s platform, deposit the sum of $200 to claim their lost investments.

“Someone asked me to log into CBEX account this morning that they have returned our balance,” one of the investors told the Peoples Gazette on Tuesday, sharing a screenshot of the returned investment.

A popular Nigerian Pastor and Televangelist, who is the Prelate and Metropolitan Senior Pastor of the House on the Rock church, Paul Adefarasin has come under public scrutiny and widespread criticism for allegedly pulling an object that vividly looks like a gun on an unknown individual who was recording him on a yet-to-be ascertained expressway.

In the short viral video clip, a video recorder captured the moment when an individual purported to be Pastor Paul Adefarasin drove by in a car without a license plate and wound down his car window, pulling a gun-like object and uttering words that seemed to protest against recording him, while the recorder was heard calling 'Adefarasin' "Boss".

Reacting to the video which has now gained a massive traction online, outspoken activist and social commentator, Martin Vincent, Popular known as VDM in a recent video raised an alarm, describing the video where Pastor Adefarasin allegedly pulled a pistol-like gun on a recorder as "disturbing".

He called on the Nigeria Police to investigate the video, to ensure public safety.

"Is that actually a gun? I had to zoom-in, to be sure and that honestly, this looks like a pistol, which is very disturbing, if it is a pistol. This is where the police need to do an investigation. Abeg," VDM laments.

The video which purportedly captured Pastor Adefarasin allegedly pulling a weapon in a public space has sparked a widespread debate about the hypocritical stance of Nigerian clerics who preach God's protection but shield their space with harmed policemen and private security structures.

Nollywood actor and vocal rights activist, Yomi Fabiyi has recently accused the "Lagos Command HQ and Zonal HQ" of being complacent and shielding suspected murderers of the late Award-winning artist, Ilerioluwa Promise Oladimeji Aloba, also known as Mohbad.

In an open letter to the President of Nigeria, Bola Tinubu, allegedly authored by Yomi Fabiyi and published on Punch Newspaper Online on May 22, 2025, Fabiyi claimed that there is a new twist to the abrupt death of Mohbad who passed away on September 12, 2023— alleging that "A new lead in the form of video evidence purportedly showing how the late hip-hop sensational artist Ilerioluwa Promise Oladimeji Aloba, aka Mohbad, was murdered in his home surfaced in part and had been brought to the attention of the Lagos State Police Command HQ and Zonal HQ, respectively, since December 2024."

However, Fabiyi cited possible involvement of some powerful individuals who have instructed the police to shield suspected murderers of the late singer, prompting the police "to avoid the video evidence and blatantly rub the mud of injustice on the demanding public. No public will accept a government or police institution that openly shields alleged murderers."

Detailing the content of the video evidence submitted to the police in respect to the alleged murder of Mohbad, Fabiyi asserted that "The said video evidence came with a homicide confession and an eyewitness account via the TikTok handle of the younger brother of Mohbad."

Furthermore, narrating alleged involvement of Mohbad's younger brother in carpeting the crucial video evidence, Fabiyi said "He (Mohbad's younger brother), in turn, accused another credible eyewitness and friend of the deceased of being the impersonator who gained illegal access to the phone he sold to him, controlled his TikTok account he left on the phone, and sent the video evidence that had sat in his phone for months."

Explaining how the alleged continued repression of truth in Mohbad's case could potentially shatter Tinubu's 2027's presidential bid, he noted "This full, uncensored video is likely to be leaked at a crucial moment, the penultimate next election and the whole cover-up will be strongly linked to you or influenced by your political enemies; they are indirectly pushing that. At that point, nobody should underestimate the power of the people."

"Nollywood and the entertainment industry have always stood by you, and if this can be done to one of us (Mohbad), it means it can be done to any of us. Justice for Mohbad is non-negotiable. The youths are observing, the student union are expectant, the industry is waiting, and the world is watching. Kindly use your good offices to intervene promptly and give us justice for Mohbad," Yomi Fabiyi said.

Nevertheless, the family of mohbad, in 2024 reportedly rejected the autopsy results conducted on him, demanding an independent post-mortem and toxicology.

Mohbad, who died on 12 September at the age of 27 under controversial circumstances, leading to the police exhuming his remains and conducting an autopsy on 21 September to ascertain the cause of his death.

In May, 2024, Sunday Osiyemi, a pathologist at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), informed the Coroner’s Inquest that the autopsy conducted on Mohbad was inconclusive in determining the cause of death.

The pathologist attributed the inconclusive autopsy to factors such as body decomposition and potential reactions to medications Mohbad received before his death, among others.

Among other allegations, the family sought clarification on the location and venue (medical facility) where the said autopsy was conducted and demanded a thorough investigation and answers.

Earlier on, multiple fingers pointed at Mohbad's former record label Boss, Naira Marley, accusing him of playing a role in the death of the singer, however, Naira Marley has been exonerated by the court.

Shedding light on the second autopsy conducted to ascertain the cause of Mohbad's death, Punch reported on April 25, 2025 that the Coroner, Magistrate Adedayo Shotobi, sitting at the Magistrates’ Court, Ikorodu, said the date to deliver the final decision will be communicated to all parties concerned.

A student journalist at Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, Asiyanbi Abraham has alleged threats and intimidation from certain quarters within the institution following his report on withheld results of four students.

Speaking with OSUN DEFENDER, Abraham who is the Editor of the NAMACOS Editorial Board (NEB), said that some individuals within the Mass Communication department pressured him to publish a rejoinder favouring the institution's management.


Abraham's report, published on May 8, 2025, was based on a press statement by former Students' Union President, Ambassador Samson Ajao, titled “Mr Kehinde Alabi, Tyrant OSPOLY Rector, Should Release Students’ Withheld Results.”

Asiyanbi alleged that he was summoned, insulted, and pressured to publish a rejoinder that would paint the school administration in a favourable light—an act he resisted.

An Ondo State indigene, Anuoluwapo Lebi has petitioned the Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, Lanre Ogunlowo, over an alleged fraud involving a landed property he acquired from a family in the state.

Lebi, in the petition dated April 02, 2025, a copy obtained by OSUN DEFENDER, claimed the said land was bought from Adebayo Ademolu family of Siun-Abeokuta.

The petitioner said he and his younger brother, Obafemi, bought one Acre and 1 plot of land from the Ademolu family on the 6th of July, 2022, and on the 29th of December, 2023, respectively.

He alleged the family sold their land to a Chinese company, Unikem Industries adding that several efforts to get the land back or compensation were met with resistance by those who sold the property to them.

Anuoluwapo Lebi, a prospective corps member in Osun State, has accused the Adebayo Ademolu family in Ogun State of fraudulently reselling a piece of land he legally purchased. The family has refused to refund N950,000 to him and his brother despite multiple petitions and pleas.
Speaking with FIJ, Lebi said he bought a plot of land in Siun, Abeokuta, for N250,000 in December 2023 after his father introduced him to a developing area. His brother, who had previously acquired an acre and a plot at the same location, also recommended the property.

According to him, the Adebayo Ademolu resold their lands to a Chinese-owned company, UNIKEM INDUSTRIES.

He said that on the day he went to inspect the property in 2023, he met Keshinro Adebayo, a representative of the Adebayo Ademolu family, who also signed the receipt of the deed of agreement after he paid.
