visit www.dietherapy247.com/2016/05/06/brain-boosting-foods-for-kids/ for more The little man/woman begins to put the brain to good use from day one day till he/she turns adult. From the 24th month critical thinking begins to come in, the child begins to ask questions to solve problems. Questions like how do I get to that toy car? How to stand up? How do I run away? All these are pointers that the brain is at work. Mothers do help to get their child’s brain well developed by reading stories to them, helping the child to mention few words like daddy. These are good but not the only way of getting the brain developed, feeding the baby right goes way beyond theses activities. Off course feeding the child right is not a guarantee that your child will clinch the first position in school but I will say right feeding is a good start for that. Vegetables: I remember my mum putting steamed fluted pumpkin leaf on my rice in my lunch box. Ever wondered what the vegetables are doing there? Vegetables are very good sources of antioxidants vitamin E.These antioxidants protects the brain cell membranes from damage. You can spice things up by making a vegetable juice as well. Eggs: Keep that egg for the kids!!!These are words I hear from my mum calling on my dad to leave the eggs for the kids know you must have witnessed the same. Generally eggs have been known to be nutritious most especially for the kids here is the reason: Eggs contain Choline,a nutrient that is essential for brain development and memory function. Choline not only improve brain development but also supports nerve function and muscle movements. Other foods that contains Choline includes: beef, fish, vegetable oil, chicken etc. Soybeans: This name rings a bell in ear of every human from this part of the world. My entire childhood, soybean has been part of my diet even now, because I enjoyed a soybean milk the last time I visited mum. Most mothers use it to compliment milk. Soybeans contain omega 3 essential fatty acids. These are healthy fats that maximize a child’s intellectual potential. A study published in American journal of clinical nutrition August 2013, children who consumed more of omega 3 fats always score higher in vocabulary and testing (age 3-5).I will keep saying the moment we go back to the old healthy ways we feed, then can some health challenges we face today will be resolved. RECIPE FOR SOYABEAN MILK Ingredients Water Soybean Sugar or honey Utensils A sieve rubber sieve A cloth like sieve A blender. Procedures 1.Soak the soybean seed in water for 7 hours 2.Rinse the seeds with water and rub against your hand. this is to dehull the seeds. 3.Sieve out the chaffs leaving the seed only (this may take time) 4.Blend the soybean seed with some water as you desire 5.Using the cloth like sieve now, separate the blended portion and milk. Pour water as you squeeze the blended portion to get the milk. 6.With the milk out now, boil in a pot for 15-20minutes then sieve again. Health drink Image source:dolbysignature 7.Add sugar/honey .then serve warm or cold. Rice/Whole grains: This belongs to the complex carbohydrate group. Complex carbohydrates are crucial to the brain’ functioning. They serve as the energy reserve of the brain. Carbohydrate when broken down to glucose supplies the body with energy mostly the brain. avacado Avocado: This healthy food is naturally endowed with omega 3 fatty acids. This improves blood flow to the brain which in turn enhances brain ability. The child can eat it whole or still spice up things by making a bread sandwich out of it, some of us call it using avocado as butter. I Hope you found this piece of writing useful. Why not put it to practice and see the results. STAY HEALTHY

visit www.dietherapy247.com for more of health tips. This article will be the first on the “How tos” category of this blog. This category will feature simple tutorials you can follow at home when the health worker is not around to keep yourself healthy. Blood pressure measurement is a very important skill for everyone health workers or not. I can remember my mum asking me to help her check her blood pressure on several occasion all thanks to the hospital where I carried out my industrial training, because this skill save me the embarrassment that day. This particular skill is used in examining following group of persons: 1.Pregnant women 2.Mothers before and during child birth. 3 .Someone losing a lot of blood 4.A person who might be in shock. 5.Anyone with signs of heart trouble, difficulty in breathing, frequent headaches, diabetes, painful veins. 6. People over the age of 40 7.Women taking birth control pills Instruments used A sphygmomanometer with mercury level and a blood pressure cuff with a gauge. This instrument is not costly the last time I checked on konga the price was #5,500 and overseas $29.90.also a stethoscope for the mercury level sphygmomanometer. Take notes of these point before you start -Make sure the person you want to measure his/her blood pressure is relaxed because recent exercise, anger and nervousness may alter the readings. -Fasten the pressure cuff (the clot like material) around the person’s bare upper arm(the person must roll up his/her sleeve. -Close the valve on the rubber bulb (like balloon) by turning the screw clockwise. -Pump the pressure up to more than 200 millimeters of mercury (watch the red liquid increase) -Place the stethoscope over the front elbow (at that junction elbow folds) -Listen carefully for the pulse as you slowly let air out of the cuff by turning the screw anticlock wise then take the readings. Taking the Readings 1.Take the first reading the moment you begin to hear the soft dull sound of the pulse. This happens when the cuff drops to the highest pressure in the artery (systolic/top pressure)The values are normally around 110-120mm 2.As you continue to release the pressure while listening carefully take the second reading when the sound begins to fade away. This happens when the pressure of the cuff drops to its lowest. It is normally around 60-80Hg. This is to say the result you get will look like this BP120/80. Normal blood pressure for an adult is usually 120/80 but anything from 100/60-140/90 is also considered normal. It is the bottom number (diastolic) that tells us more about your health. For example if a person’s blood pressure is 140/85 there is not much need to panic but if it is 135/110, he/she has serious high blood pressure and requires attention probably diet and some drugs.Read dangers of high blood pressure.it is worthy to note also that sudden drop in Bp below 60/40 especially people in shock is fatal and immediate action should be taken. Hope you are enlightened by the tutorial watch out for more tutorials here and share with friends as well STAY HEALTHY

Go on dear friend..Water is life.. Do visit www.dietherapy247.com for more |
visit www.dietherapy247.com/2016/04/30/the-healing-power-of-water/ for details Most of us can live without medicine, but no can live without water. In fact over half the human body is made of water. if everyone makes best use of water I think the amount of sickness and death especially of children could probably be reduced. If not for any other reason, the fact that the fluid the body loses during exercise, excretion, breathing should be replaced is enough reason to have a glass.Read water as a healthy food> www.dietherapy247.com/2016/04/11/healthy-foods-that-you-dont-want-to-be-missing-in-your-diet/ The reasons to keep drinking water at least 8 glasses a day depending on the weather. Drinking water helps maintain fluid balance: The body is wholly made of water, these fluid plays a role in digestion, circulation, transportation.water is lost through our sweat during exercise, urinating breathing and other forms and these fluid lost needs to be replaced. When the body is low on fluid the brain triggers the body thirst mechanism and when this happens, you feel thirsty. You should respond to this cue by getting a glass of water as to keep the body fluid in balance. Water helps give the skin a fresh look: When you do not have enough water in your system (dehydration)the skin looks more dry and wrinkled but with proper hydration the kidney take charge and excrete fluids making the skin look fresh. It helps maintain normal bowel movement: Have you noticed that the any day you do not have enough water, defecation will be hell for you but this exercise becomes much easier when you have enough water in your system or better still have eaten fruits high in moisture content. When you don’t get enough water for your system, the colon pulls water from stools to maintain hydration and this result to constipation. Water helps energize our muscles: Ever wondered why you get too tired when you feel thirsty? Cells in the body tend to shrink when they don’t get enough water especially the muscles cells. This reason some athletes keeps water bottle by their side. It helps in maintaining focus: any day you don’t get enough water concentration will be farfetched. Dehydration causes shrinking of the brain tissues. Water keeps our kidney working: Kidney helps in waste removal, blood pressure control and fluid balance. One of the Dietitians I worked with once told a patient if you want to avoid kidney stones drink enough water. Water protects our joints and cartilages: Water keeps the cartilages around our joints hydrated this ensures that our joints are lubricated. Water do the same job grease do on gears. Another tremendous quality of water is that it serves as a medium through which toxins and harmful substances produced in the body is removed through the sweat, urine and faeces. Give your body the water it needs to function properly and see it do the magic, sometimes is not that you are sick just that your body needs water.
