Phones / 7 Important Whatsapp Tricks You Didn't Know, But Should by DigitalCora: 5:15pm On Jul 10, 2020

WhatsApp is very flexible and there are fantastic helpful tricks that can transform your WhatsApp experience into a whole new dimension of awesome!

Today, I'm gonna share some helpful WhatsApp tricks and tips you probably didn't know about.

Suspend whatsoever you're doing and view this stuff to the end. You'll be glad you did.

1. Read and reply to messages without touching your phone.

For Android users, simply launch your Google Assistant and say "read WhatsApp messages."

Assistant will open your recent messages and also give you the option to reply. Input your command and you're done. For iOS users, you can also do this smoothly with Siri.

2. Stop media from being automatically downloaded and appearing in your gallery.

WhatsApp automatically download images and videos sent to you. This will consume your data, eat up your device's storage, and slow down your phone.

To prevent this, here's what to do.

Go to your Chats screen. Click on the 3-dot icon on the top right corner of your screen.

Then settings > data & storage usage > media auto-download. Click on "When Using Mobile Data" and uncheck all the options.

Also, to prevent downloaded images from appearing in your gallery, simply go to settings > chats. There you'll find "media visibility." Simply turn off the toggle. This will prevent WhatsApp from consuming your phone's memory space.

3. Find out who you chat with the most.

You might have a long list of friends that you chat with regularly, but there would be the one you converse with the most. You can find out which contact uses the most of your storage.

Open Settings. Go to Data and Storage Usage. Tap on Storage Usage and then select the contact. You will be able to see how much storage has been used by each contact.

4. Reply to a group message privately.

Maybe you're in a group and you'd like to reply to a specific message that someone sent and you don't want anyone else to see your reply. Here's how to go about it.

On the group chat, tap and hold the message you'd like to reply to. The message will be highlighted. Then click on the 3-dot icon on the right top corner of your screen. There you'll find the option that says "Reply Privately." Click and proceed.

5. Protect your privacy. Hide your chats.

You definitely might have conversations you don't wanna delete but you don't want to run the risk of someone getting to see it either. You can keep it hidden by choosing to archive the chat. This is particularly helpful if you've got friends who like snooping around your messages.

Here's how to go about it...

Tap and hold a chat. Then from the options that appear on the top portion of your screen, tap the "archive icon" (which looks like a download box). Immediately, the chat will be hidden. To recover or view your archive chats, simply scroll to the very bottom of your WhatsApp chats screen.

6. Set up a customize notification.

There are some certain people you want to know instantly if they're messaging you. To make sure they don't blend with every other message, you can change their specific alert tones so you recognise when that particular person has sent you a message.

Here's how to set a custom notification for a contact:

Launch WhatsApp from the home screen of your device.

Open any conversation and tap on ‘View Contact’. You can also access this by tapping on the profile name of the contact within their chatbox.

Now tap on ‘Custom Notifications’.

Now, all you need is to check the box against ‘Use custom notifications’ box.

After this, all the options will become functional and you will be able to tap on any of them.

7. Share your location.

Kidnapping isn't uncommon these days. Before going out to meet someone new, you might wanna pull some security measures.

Through WhatsApp, you can share your location with a close friend/family so they can automatically track you.

This is very handy if you're meeting someone or going to a location you're not too familiar with. WhatsApp has the functionality that gives you the option to allow your contact (that you choose) to see your Live Location for the duration you choose so they can track you.

When you set this up, your contact will be able to see Live wherever you are.

Here's how to go about it:

Chat >Select specific to chat (the person you wanna share your location with) > Tap on the paperclip to the right of the message box > Location > Share Live Location > Select time frame.

Select the length of time you'd like to share your live location. Your live location will stop being shared after the selected amount of time.

Phones / How To Recover Your Stolen Android Device In Less Than 2 Minutes by DigitalCora: 6:20am On Jul 04, 2020
Losing your phone is quite painful especially if you have important files and information stored in it.

A few years ago, if your phone gets stolen, it's as good as gone.

But not anymore.

Today, I'm going to take you through the process on how to track your missing device and recover your stolen phone. This tip is only applicable to android phones only.

For whatsoever reason you discover your phone is missing. Follow these steps:

1. Goto google.com/android/find from another device. Or you can download the Find My Device from Playstore.

2. Log into the website. Enter the email address and password for the Android that you want to find.

3. When you log in, you'll find your device's name on the left portion of the screen. Click on it!

This will trigger the process for Google to begin searching for your phone's location.

4. It shouldn't take too long for your android's location to be determined. (At most, 60 seconds with a fast internet connection).

Once your device's location is determined, it will display on the screen.

5. At this point, you've found your device's location.

Yeah, it's that easy.

But before you proceed to recover your device, here's what you should do before anything else.

When you confirm that your phone has been stolen, contact the financial institution that you use for monetary transactions on the stolen device.

Inform your bank about the state of your phone and instruct them to restrict the number from carrying out any transactions till you retrieve your phone or number.

Why should you do this?

Phone thieves can gain access to your BVN by simply dialling a USSD code on your device. With such info combined with your SMS alerts, emails, and banking app, they can launch and can carry out fraudulent activities and make transactions without your authorization.

I hope this post helped.

Family / 8 Online Platforms To Get Quick Loans In Nigeria Without Collateral by DigitalCora: 4:14pm On May 16, 2020

1. OKash.

OKash is an automated lending platform under OPay in charge of disbursing loans to applicants.

Getting a loan from OKash could take only a matter of seconds and funds are credited almost instantly upon approval.

Their interest is dependent on your loan amount and tenor (ranges from 30-365 days). The payable interest could vary from 9% to 35%.

For a new member, you’re at liberty to borrow as low as N3,000 to as high as N30,000. This is perfect for students and individuals in need of quick cash to cater for immediate needs.

You can apply for loans on Okash through their official app. The app is simple and very easy to use.

To get a loan from Okash without collateral, simply install the app from the Android Playstore and sign-up for an account. Log in and fill in relevant details to kick-start the loan application process.

Upon approval of your application (which takes less than 5 minutes), you will be credited with your loan amount almost immediately.

2. QuickCheck.
This is an online application that provides quick loans to Nigerians without the requirement of collateral.

Their service is offered through their android mobile app which you can get via the Google Playstore.

The loan amount ranges from N1,500 to N500,000. With tenors from 30 to 365 days. Interest rates are between 2-30% depending on your loan amount and duration of repayment.

The loan offered by QuickCheck is great for individuals looking for instant cash to cover quick bills such as school fees or health-related medical bills.

It’s also convenient for small business owners who need quick loans to cater for operational costs such as the purchase of supplies.

3. Carbon (formerly Paylater)

Carbon offers instant short-term loans of up to 1 million Naira with absolutely no collateral or documents required to acquire such sum.

Whether you’re a student, self-employed, or salary earner, loans offered by Carbon are instant and accessible no matter where you are.

To get an instant loan from Carbon, all you need to do is head over to Google Playstore and install the Carbon app. Then proceed to apply for the loan you need.

The only requirement is an android device, internet data connection and a valid ID.

Interest rates on Carbon are quite fair. As expected, interest rates hinge on the loan amount and the duration of time the loan is to be paid back (tenor).

The interest rate on your first loan starts at 5% monthly. However, subsequent loans attract lower interest fees with Interest ranging from 1.75% – 30%.

Nonetheless, Carbon loans are only best for servicing short-term debts and should be used only for emergency needs.

Do not make the mistake of using Carbon loans to service long term debt as such action would incur higher interest rates when compared to other types of loans.

Business / How To Start A Data Reselling Business in Nigeria [2019] by DigitalCora: 9:07am On Oct 29, 2019
Did you know that your bank makes millions of Naira DAILY simply by selling internet data bundles?

Yes, they do.

This business is called data reselling

You might have received messages from your bank prompting you to subscribe data bundles via their mobile app or USSD codes.

Have you ever stopped to wonder why?

Banks invest a lot of money in developing their mobile apps and sending you message reminders like the one above just so you could buy data from them.

Here is something you should know…

They don’t do this because they want to make data convenient for you to purchase, they do this because they make a truckload of cash when you buy data from them.

Banks adopted the idea of selling data bundles to their customers as one of their core services because of the tremendous profit they reap.

Here’s how it works…

They buy data in bulk from network service operators (MTN, GLO, AIRTEL etc.) at extremely cheap prices, then add their own profit and sell to their customers.

When your bank buys data in bulk from network service operators, the network service providers give them discounts and sell to them at a very cheap price.

Hence, when your bank sells to you, they add their profit and make gains for themselves.

This is called data reselling.

The good news is, banks are not the only ones who can benefit from this business; you too can also make money from this business by becoming a data reseller.

What is data reselling?

Data reselling simply means purchasing internet data bundles in bulk (large quantity) from telecom companies (MTN, AIRTEL, GLO etc.) and selling in smaller quantity to end-users.

Just like with every other commodity, when you buy more (in large quantity), the supplier offers you a discount.

The same applies to data. When you buy data in bulk, the service operator sells to you at a lower price.

You can get 1GB for as low as N450.

When you purchase data bundles at such low prices, you then add your profit when you sell to end-users.

Where to buy data in bulk for resale:

You can buy data in bulk for resale from Data Reselling Companies.

However, in the event that may not always want to buy data in bulk for resale, data reselling companies also make it possible for you to buy data in smaller quantity.

Hence, you can buy as little as 500MB and it would still be sold to you at wholesale price.

You can still sell such quantity and make a profit.

Bottom line is, you necessarily do not need to buy data in bulk as banks do in order to make a profit.

You can buy in fewer quantity from Data Reselling Companies at the same wholesale price.

What is a Data Reselling Company?

Data reselling companies get data on your behalf from telecom companies (GLO, AIRTEL, MTN, 9MOBILE etc.) and offer them to you at an extremely cheap rate — the same wholesale price that telecom network sell to banks.

Hence, you purchase data from these data reselling companies at wholesale prices and then, add your profit when you sell to end-users.

Take, for example, 9Mobile 1GB is sold for N1, 000 on a regular. But when you buy from a data reselling company (which I will introduce you to), you can get it for as low as N650! That means you’ll be saving N350!

Where to buy cheap data:

You can get cheap internet bundles from Data Reselling Companies—these companies purchase data in large scales directly from telecom companies and then resell these data to you at an extremely cheap price (wholesale prices).

There are numerous data reselling companies out there offering cheap data bundles. But as with every business niche that exists, there are data vendors who offer pitiful data reselling services.

I’ve tested the service of a couple of data reselling companies in Nigeria to sieve out the legitimate ones from the vast number of unsolicited vendors.

My findings led to the creation of this post—to bring to your knowledge legit data reselling companies that are honest and transparent with their dealings. I’ll unveil them to you below.

How to become a data reseller in Nigeria and start making money.

To become a data reseller, all you need to do is to sign up as an agent with a data reselling company.

As a data reselling agent, you will be treated with better discounts and bigger price slash for the data you purchase. That is, you’ll be offered data at extremely cheap prices.

So let’s say, for example, you purchase 9Mobile 1GB for N650 and sell at N900, That’s a ₦250 profit you’ve made!

Imagine you’re able to make 100 sales in a week, that’s N25, 000 profit. In a month that’s ₦100, 000!

You might be wondering how it could be possible to make 100 sales in a week.

I understand. But you must realise that it’s the 21st century—the internet is the new market place for business.

Even if you’re an introvert and actively avoid contact with human beings, your condition still isn’t a barrier in this business.

It is the Digital Era. Buying and selling have moved beyond the conventional one-on-one physical meet up.

In the Digital Age, The Internet is the new market place for businesses. You can make money selling your data online right from your home. You no longer need to meet one-on-one in order to get people to patronise you.

The internet makes it possible to reach millions of people right from the comfort of your home.

Basically, 100 sales in a week is even putting things very mildly.

With basic social media marketing techniques, making that amount of sales in a week won’t be difficult.

What you need to start a data reselling business.

The interesting part about this business is that you don’t need a heavy start-up capital to begin.

All you need for this business is a smartphone with an active internet data connection!

With these resources coupled with what I’m going to teach you, you can start making good money selling data right from the comfort of your home.

Why should you start a data reselling business?

When you become a data reseller, you’ll be able to get data at extremely cheap prices.

When you purchase these data bundles at wholesale price from a legitimate data reselling company, you’ll be able to add your profit and then sell to consumers.

Your profit potential from this business is limitless!

Simple diable all Google apps. Play store, services especially, Gmail, YouTube, maps etc. Everything Google should go then see your data last till the last day. Use third party apps instead.

Nice input you've got here.
But disabling Google Services ( especially those embedded in android system apps) might hamper the smooth flow of your device.

That can be very frustrating.

Phones / How To Prevent Your Phone From Consuming Too Much Data. by DigitalCora: 8:47am On Sep 01, 2019
A few years ago, 1GB worth of data could take you for a month. But today, 1GB can barely get you passed a day.

One time I subscribed for 6.5GB. In less than 48 hour my network operator notified me that my data had been exhausted. And no, I did not download my destiny!

With the substandard services network providers are offering, you’d expect data to be cheap. But that’s far from the case… Truth is, data is expensive in Nigeria. And to cap it all, the data doesn’t stay the expected duration!

So why is data expensive, and most importantly, why does your data burn so fast even with minimal usage?

Thing is, the telecom industry in Nigeria is still at its infancy— suffering from poor infrastructure and lukewarm regulations by the NCC.

Coupled with this fact, the number of internet users in Nigeria currently stands at 113.3 million in 2019, with the country’s annal population growth averaging at 2.6%.

While this poses as good news to entrepreneurs (Increase in population growth means your business can offer solutions to more people).

Unfortunately, as the number of internet users continues to increase in Nigeria, data isn’t going to get cheaper anytime soon.

As internet users increase, the demand for data would increase too. Consequently, the price of data would be on the rise as well. Basic Economics—an increase in demand will lead to an increase in price.

However, It’s no longer news that Nigeria is the poverty headquarters of the world. In an attempt to make data affordable for Nigerians, network providers slash the prices of their data. But in so doing, they offer you meagre quantity.

You feel you’re buying 1GB; at least that’s what it says in theory. But what you’re actually paying for seems like 450MB!

No, you’re not being cheated. Although you’re not being offered what is advertised, but in the practical sense of it, you’re being offered the standard rate of what your money can carry.

This isn’t the fault of telecom operators; but largely due to multiple taxations, poor policy regulations by the government, and unfavourable economic indices currently plaguing the country. This kills competition and chases investors away.

Take, for example, Nigeria has less than 7 active internet service providers (Glo, MTN, Airtel, etc). India has 302! And that’s why 1GB in India is less than N95 due to effective market competition and adequate infrastructure.

While you might not be able to change the cost of data in Nigeria, you could make your data stay much longer.

Here are 4 easy tips to prevent your phone from consuming data excessively.

#Tip 1: Restrict background data.

A bulk of what consumes your data are the apps that run in the background. These apps automatically refresh their content immediately you turn on your data.

While this functionality is meant to give your phone a seamless experience, they come at a cost. These apps bite in on your data whether or not they’re being used.

Solution?

Restrict your background.

Here’s how to restrict your phone’s background data.

•Open up Settings on your device
•Locate and tap “Data Usage.” When you arrive here, you’ll find a list of all your apps with the respective amount of data they each consume.
•Locate and tap the app you want to prevent from using your data in the background.
•Scroll to the bottom of the app listing. There you’ll find "Restrict Background Data." Click on the toggle to enable.

Restrict all apps you notice consumes your data the most.
Clear enough? Good.

Tip #2: Set up Datally.

Datally is an app developed by Google LLC which helps you track and monitor your data usage in real-time.

It comes with inbuilt data saver functionality. The moment you turn it on, it minimises and restricts your data usage.

You can also use this app to set and limit the amount of data you want to use for a day.

The moment you reach the limit, your data automatically goes off. Also, you can block apps that you don’t often use to prevent them from tapping your data.

The Datally app is available on PlayStore. Head over there and install it.

Another good data saver is DataEye. It provides the same functionality as Datally with a lil added tweaks.

Tip #3: Minimise Instagram data usage.

Instagram consumes a great deal of data! Also, it quickly drains your cellular battery and eats up a chunk of your storage.

Why does Instagram consume so much data?

In an attempt to offer you a swift and smooth surfing experience, the developers crafted the app to preload videos by default.

This means that while you’re watching a video, 5-9 other videos are being buffered and loaded in the background.

This can be quite costly depending on your internet speed and carrier data plan.

To cut down the amount of data Instagram consumes, implement the following…

•Go to your profile and tap settings.
•Tap account > cellular data
•You’ll find “Data saver”. Then go ahead and put on the toggle.

By so doing, you’ll be saving a substantial amount of data by preventing the app from preloading videos you aren’t viewing.

Extra tip: within the Data Saver option, tap on “High Resolution Media” and change it to “Never.”

This will stop Instagram from showing you media (videos and photos) that are heavy and takes up a lot of data to load up.

Tip #4. Use LITE versions of apps.

If you’re a frequent user of Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube, you can greatly minimise your data usage by using the LITE versions of the apps.

The original apps of these platforms can be quite reckless in consuming your data.

This led to the developers creating a LITE version—primarily designed to reduce data consumption and enhance faster browsing experience.

Simply go to Playstore to have them installed by searching for “Facebook lite,” “Twitter Lite,” or “YouTube GO.”

Don’t forget to uninstall the original apps before having the LITE versions installed. What’s the point of having two apps that perform the same function?

There you go, folks… That’s all for now.

Incorporating these tips will save you lots of data especially when you’re surfing on a limited data carrier plan.

Enjoy.
