relativityThe focus of this study is to examine the relationship between employment capacity and literacy rate in nigeria. The relationship seems unhealthy when there is an imbalance in the manifestation of the developmental parameters (employment opportunity vis a vis literacy) in society. In a situation like this, both or any of the socio-human development parameters is either under or over utilised.

On the other hand ,it seems a healthy relationship when both the developmental parameters are correspondingly available, increasing, and accessible to the citizens. Here there is a near optimum or optimum utilisation of the socio-human developmental parameter. A study like this one is absolutely important for the strategic socio-human developmental policy of Nigeria.

This is a major way of modelling Nigeria “s socio-human development to be in consonance with the millenium Development Goal. The implications of the results of this study for entrepreneurial training in flexible learning are consequently expounded in the course of discussing the findings.

A day-long series of workshops, seminars, and training programs during the fest — which culminated with 20 Nigerian students being invited to the recently opened Relativity School in L.A. — showcased the studio’s commitment to global outreach.

“The architecture of storytelling has changed a lot in the last 20 years, and it’s become a lot more global,” says Michael Novak, international advisor for Relativity Education, the studio’s educational outreach program. “The focus … is to be a global center for education and media and story-telling.”

In Nigeria, the studio’s efforts are geared toward helping the prolific Nollywood industry boost production values, leverage digital and other distribution platforms, fight piracy, and tap into the continent’s largest economy to help fund the growth of an industry that the Nigerian government recently estimated to be worth $5 billion a year.

The goal, says Stephen Ozoigbo, who’s leading Relativity’s initiatives across the continent, is to lay the groundwork for Nollywood and other African film industries to become a major player in the global film biz.

“At its core, Relativity Education is looking to support the growth of African content around the world by educating the next generation of African media entrepreneurs,” says Ozoigbo. “It’s not a charity project. It’s a business project.”

On a continent that boasts some of the fastest-growing economies on the planet, he says, the potential is huge.In Nigeria, the studio is in talks with AFRIFF to offer year-round capacity-building programs so that the fest is “not just a November to November” event, but part of something more sustainable. From Nov. 16-21, Relativity is hosting seven industry execs from Zimbabwe, who spent a week meeting with stakeholders and talking to possible partners in the U.S. Ozoigbo says talks are also under way with government bodies in South Africa.

EducationHttp://myschoollatest.net/index.php/2016/08/21/problems-students-face-school-sol by Dikachisco(op): 11:31am On Aug 21, 2016
studentsWhile time spent at college is a fond memory and a happy experience for most, the student life is not without its rough patches. Everyone’s situation is unique, but there are a few problems that almost all college students deal with at least once during their time at school.

If you are on your way to college, get a jump on how to deal with the challenges that may come your way.

1. Time Management
Problem: College is academically challenging. For many, college courses require much more effort than high school classes did. Unlike most high schools, colleges often pack two years of content into one year. Many students take a full 15 credit semester, while others try to cram in up to 18 or even 21 credits. At times, it seems impossibe to stay on top of it all.

Solution: Know your limits. If you can’t handle 18 credits in one semester, it is worth it in the long run to slow down and take only 15. While the purpose of a college education is to learn as much as you can, that doesn’t mean studying all the time. It is important to schedule time for fun and to take breaks to keep your mind fresh and clear. For more ways to manage this kind of academic stress, see this guide of effective study habits.

Schedule your study time and make time for breaks. Also, know your limits. If you are taking too many credits, take fewer next term.
2. Debt
Problem: Tuition costs are rising at alarmingly high rates. Add to that the cost of housing, meals, supplies, transportation, and textbooks, and you have a recipe for unmanageable debt. Most financial advisors recommend borrowing no more than one expects to earn their first year out of college. However, soaring tuition costs make this rule difficult to follow. According to an article in U.S. News, almost half of today’s students say that the cost is making them reconsider finishing their degree. Students are increasingly dropping out of college because they cannot afford the expense. Others are forced to juggle full academic schedules with full-time jobs to make ends meet. Graduating debt-free is almost unheard of.

Solution: Student loans are relatively easy to get. Many students, however, don’t know how repayment works and how many years they may spend paying off their loans. This lack of understanding only adds to the stress. An important part of your education is educating yourself about the structure of the loans you take on to pay for that education. Sit down with a financial advisor to get a firm grasp on the debt you’re taking on.

Consider an on-campus job. Working on-campus will cut out potential transportation expenses and help you stay more focused academically. If you had a job in high school and are going to college locally, see if you can continue working while in school. If you are going away to school, inquire about transferring to a job location near your school. In addition, create a budget for shopping trips and eating out and stick to it.

3. Spreading Yourself Too Thin
Problem: To afford the high price of college tuition, many students must get jobs. Juggling a job, 15 to 18 credits, relationships, and extracurricular activities is extremely difficult. Many students try to cram all of these activities into one day and do not get enough sleep. Without proper rest, students are vulnerable to physical and mental health problems.

Solution: Decide what is important. Prioritize and schedule events, games, meetings, social events, and studies accordingly. Also, be aware of your options when getting a job. Universities often offer jobs that fit into a student’s schedule.

Homesickness is a common and normal challenge for college students, especially those who are far from home and in their first year of school.
4. Homesickness
Problem: Whether they admit it or not, most students will at one point get homesick, especially those who attend a school that is more than three hours away from home. Freshmen suffer more, as it is presumably their first year away from home.

Solution: If you live within three or four hours from home (a comfortable day’s drive), plan to visit home once every month or two. Ask friends and family to email, call, and send care packages. These steps should greatly assist in reducing feelings of homesickness.

Many campuses have support groups for students. Talking to others who are having similar experiences can help. You may even form friendships with some of the people you meet there. Remember that the other students you come into contact with every day may be feeling the same things you are, and you can help each other.

5. Depression
Problem: Every problem on this list can raise a student’s stress level and contribute to emotional lows. Some find temporary relief in partying which, in excess and in the long run, may contribute to depression.

Solution: If stress and depression are an issue, seek professional support. Many campuses have free counseling programs for students. Counselors are trained to listen and help students get back on track.

6.Sickness/Health Conditions
Problem: Heightened stress, poor self-care, and lack of sleep can cause health problems. Living in close quarters also poses health risks and can increase a student’s chances of contracting illnesses.

Solution: Eat healthy, balanced meals. Get a good night’s rest as well. Wash your hands often. If an illness does develop, visit your campus clinic.

7. Social Problems
Problem: If you’re lucky, you’ll make many new friends. Establishing connections and spending time with classmates and roommates is important for building community. However, spending too much time together can be challenging, and conflicts can arise. Social relations can become a distraction.

Solution: Take some time out for yourself. If possible, get away from campus for a break and visit a coffee shop or a mall, take a walk in a neighborhood, or visit a local park. Prioritize time for studying and taking care of yourself. If conflicts do arise and you need help, get your RA or another friend involved.

8. Partying
Problem: Partying in itself is not a problem. Parties can be a great way for students to blow off steam. However, sometimes partying can cause problems. Drugs and alcohol can lead to poor choices, risky behavior, health risks, and even potentially deadly situations. Having sex without sober consent and without taking the necessary precautions can be traumatic, dangerous, and even criminal.

Solution: While parties are important, enjoy them in a responsible and legal way so you don’t create problems for yourself or others. Know your limits. Ask for a ride home if you’ve been drinking. Keep track of your friends and make sure they’re being safe, too. Make sure to eat and drink enough water when consuming alcohol. Carry a condom. Understand what it means to have “affirmative consent.”

9. Relationships
Problem: Relationships are good, but they can be overwhelming. Sometimes they take a lot of time and can begin to encroach on your education. There are times in every relationship when a couple will have a disagreement which can distract them from schoolwork and add to stress levels. Break-ups can drive some students even further into depression.

Solution: Relationship advice is hard to give, since the solution varies on a case-by-case basis. Establish a clear communication of your needs and expectations from the outset. If you do break up, consult with a school counselor to work through the experience.

10. Choosing a Major
Problem: There is a lot of pressure to choose a major. It is easy to think that your major will determine your future career and how much money you will make, which means that making the right decision now feels hugely important (and stressful).

Solution: College majors are important, but they do not chisel your future career or wages into stone. Choose something that you like. If you are unsure about what major to choose, choose something broad and versatile, such as communications. Many students who get their undergraduate degrees in one field progress to get a Master’s degree in a different area. Worrying too much about your major is simply not worth it. Focus instead on gaining knowledge and life skills.

The accused persons however pleaded not guilty to the offences.

EducationHttp://myschoollatest.net/index.php/2016/08/10/necessary-things-apply-medical-sc by Dikachisco(op): 8:47am On Aug 10, 2016
Now,I wish to share with you what I learnt from the medical school. Here we go.
A.. SUCCESS IS GOALS.
On the night our final results were released, the Teaching Hospital environment changed. The city saw massive activities. Ladies and gentlemen gathered at cool joints to celebrate and be grateful for all the blessings life had bestowed upon them. In a certain joint, one cool guy, the wisest among us stood up in our midst and said, “Success is goals. All else is commentary”
We all nodded in agreement to his wisdom.
The exam that will take you by surprise is the one you didn’t prepare for. Set goals for success.
B.. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A GENIUS IN MEDICINE.
People usually think that medical students are the most intelligent people. That is partly true. Usually, the most intelligent pool of students from various secondary schools apply to study medicine every year. But when they enter medical school, they must learn to drop the genius myth. We have seen the brightest chap who humbled WAEC and JAMB with high scores drop out from 2nd MBBS exam. Stuffs happen. Get ready for them. In the words of Donald Trump, ” There will be no guarantees, but being prepared sure beats being taken unawares.”

C..ANY AVERAGE STUDENT CAN STUDY MEDICINE.
There is no truer statement. In medicine, your only challenge is to just make sure you know a lot. Cram everything. Read, read and read again. No flash of genius. If I have a very intelligent child, I’ll send him to study aeronautical engineering, nuclear physics, or computer engineering. Truth is that an average student can pass through medicine if he can sit down and read. For nuclear physics, what will you do with those long equations? Just asking. I consider calculus, matrix, scalars and vectors, mechanics, quantum theory of light, and every other thing involving long equations to be more difficult to crack than biology.
D..NOT ALL PARAMEDICAL STUDENTS HATE MEDICAL STUDENTS; BUT THERE IS A HATE.
As a student, I enjoyed the friendship of nursing students, radiography students, medical labouratory students, and physiotherapy students. Those that like their course can give you so much fun. You can rub minds on any issue with them, from religion to romance. But there are bitter ones who wrote JAMB severally for medicine before they were offered something else. They refuse to like your pictures on facebook, and will never follow you back on twitter. When someone makes a snarl comment at you on facebook, they are the first to click like. How do you handle such people? Kill their power to hurt you by ignoring them. Get on only with the cheerful ones with healthy self esteem. They are extremely intelligent, and you can learn from them.
E..MEDICAL STUDENTS ARE NOT FLIRTS. Where do we even find the time? If you have a medical student as your boyfriend or girlfriend, you can be rest assured that he or she is not cheating on you, because we have no time for that. We do not have time to gist on Nneoma’s bossom, nor Amaka’s straight legs. When you have been harrassed by the consultants and resident doctors for not answering basic questions on Hypertension or Diabetis during rounds, you’ll discover that the firmness of Nneoma’s bosom makes no sense to your career.

You have to read your books, because reading your books is your surest bet of leaving that jungle of academic intimidation and harrasment called medical school.
F..TIME IS PRECIOUS. NEVER WASTE IT. That’s all. You’ll know this on the night before surgery long and short case exams. Suddenly, you remember all you could have read, but the big day is few hours away. Never joke with your time.
G..YOU CAN PAY YOUR WAY THROUGH SCHOOL. I did it, despite the fact that I came from a middle class family where money for education at least was not a problem at all. When we were in first year, we started applying for every available scholarship. One of my guys got about 5 scholarships. We wrote for AGIP, TOTAL, SHELL, NNPC, LNGN, MTN, AGBAMI patners, Federal Government, Essay competitions that have prize money, etc. Aside scholarships, I also won national and local essay competions which had cash prizes. I put my gifting to profit. So every year, we receive lump sums of cash that are in six digits. I helped my friends and school mentees (academic children) with money. I sponsored the fellowship outreaches and Agape love weekends. I had the money.
You see, life can be so easy. Dont complain anymore.
H.. AS A MEDICAL STUDENT, PRETTY LADIES WILL FALL FOR YOU EFFORTLESSLY. USE THIS PRIVILEDGE WISELY.
When I was a medical student, I often went to school of nursing building within the Teaching Hospital to go and read. I noticed how nicely those girls greet me once they knew I was a medical student. They were all pretty, lovely ladies. I seized the chance. At every opportunity I get, I share with them timeless principles for living from the Bible.

One day, I put a word to one of their lecturers who permitted me to organise a closed door seminar for the nursing students. The hall was colorful and packed to the brim on the seminar day. When I was introduced, I rose up I taught them all I knew about life, faith and success. I did more of this later on, in the main University campus, till I left school.
Use your chances intelligently, guarded with integrity. It could be the small beginning of greater things.
I..TALK LESS and DO MORE.
I have observed that proud people do not always deliver during exams. They love to brag. Sometimes, they repeat a class even. Never engage in an academic discussion that seems determined to declare who knows most, and who knows least. Shut up your mouth and win such arguments through results. Let your results show on the board when the chips are down.
J.. SMART WORK PLUS NETWORK MAKES HARDWORK LOOK ORDINARY.
True talk! I have observed that most lecturers’ children pass exams at one sitting, not because they have the questions before the exam day. Far from it. They simply know the secrets of hitting it once. Their parents, who are also doctors share experiences with them and mentor them. While we are killing ourselves with Last’s Anatomy textbook, the lecturer’s daughter has been told that the questions always come from Keith Moore’s Anatomy textbook.
We work hard, they work smart. They can connect also with their parents’ connections (other lecturers) for leverage if they are ever met in a viva room with the same lecturer. You can’t resist giving your colleagues daughter maximum marks in oral exams. That’s network.
Smart work plus network beats hardwork.
K.. YOU NEED PEOPLE.
Reach out to your classmates and lecturers. Nobody goes far in life in isolation.

In my long case surgery exam, the two consultant surgeons that examined me were not just my teachers. They were my friends. We are all in the Gilead Medical Team in my church (Winners’ Chapel). They knew me to be honest, so their wives and little kids soon fell in love with me. I go to their house to eat rice and chicken on sundays, and to cool off from the stress of school.

So when I met them in my surgery long case, I talked with confidence. I answered all the questions they asked me. Perhaps it was my mindset that they will never ask me a question to fail me that made me attempt all the questions as if they were cheap.

I got maximum mark in sugery long case that day. I got 58/100. I know you’re wondering why 58 is a maximum mark right? Well, its a tradition in my school. I don’t know for other medical schools in Nigeria. No one gets above 60 in oral exams, even if you quote things as it is given in textbooks and notebooks. 60% is like 100% in oral exams. This then means that your chances of failing and repeating in medical school is very high since pass mark is 50%.
Reach out in friendship to people today. Join associations. They help too.The last is that
L..YOU NEED GOD.
I put this last, but it is the most important thing I learnt in medical school. You can not fail when God is with you. But even if you fail any exam and God is with you, you didn’t fail at all. Your day of glory is just a stone throw away. Never ever give up. Later success will make the friends that left you to come back; this time, no longer as friends but as fans.
Thanks!!!

Serena, who graduated from Dowen College, Lekki, Lagos, last year, has chosen to attend Syracuse University, United States, to study Bio-Medical Engineering.

According to Punch, she reportedly chose Syracuse University because of the institution’s world-class research laboratory and a $51,000 scholarship offer.

Serena, in a recent interview, disclosed that she aspires to be a medical engineer. The teenager intends to study medicine as a second degree.

According to the girl“I feel very honoured and I feel it is an opportunity to work harder. I know that I have to justify the offer. I chose Syracuse University because it has a very good research lab and the offer came with $51,000 scholarship. I have always loved Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Geography.

“My hope is to study medicine for a second degree, but I would love to be a medical engineer. Most of the medical equipment in the country are imported and I would like a situation where medical equipment is manufactured here in Nigeria.

“My parents are my role models, but I am also inspired by anyone who is hard working, anyone who puts so much efforts into what they do,” she said.

Some of the universities where she was offered admission include Emory University, Georgia Institute of Technology, New York University, among others.

EducationHttp://myschoollatest.net/index.php/2016/08/08/truancy-among-students/ by Dikachisco(op): 7:00pm On Aug 08, 2016
Truancy has become a national problem and more importantly, a local challenge which negatively influences the future of our children. students who do not attend school are at risk of engaging in behavior involving alcohol, drugs, violence, and other criminal conduct. this includes students who attend only a portion of the school day. The schools suffer the blight and the lowering of its overall scoring and performance which justifies what school is awarded certain educational benefits and programs.
No school district administration will reward schools with high truancy and low scoring and performance. While it is the responsibility of the School District to provide all students with a core education, only those schools who demonstrate they are able to attract and retain its students and whose performance is above the districts’ standards are awarded programs designed to help students excel beyond school. In this society, negative behavior is not rewarded.
The real victims of truancy are those students who choose to go to school everyday and put forth an effort to succeed. unfortunately for them, it is not as simple as transferring to a better performing school to escape being the collateral damage of someone else’s destructive actions.
Truancy puts the community at risk of becoming a victim of deviant behavior. Students who commit truancy, commit deviant acts at a higher rate than students who stay in school. Deviant acts include, but are not limited to theft, burglary, robbery, drug use and sale, assault, various sex-related crimes, and even murder. For the hard working people of the community, every truant represents an increased chance they or their property may become a victim of some deviant act.
Parents often don’t think of their child as someone who will skip school. Still there are others who are not concerned if their child goes to school or not.

The physical effects of truancy is not evident because a truant could care less about its social impact. The loss of the community begins with the student who skips class or school – still others can argue its the parent’s fault and even the school’s fault but the fact remains, a truant is individually more likely to drop out of school and subsequently resort to petty and major crimes in the future.

According to statistics provided by the Nigerian Police Department, students were victims of major crimes off campus.

The crimes accounted for approximately 10 percent of the total major crimes reported.

A Student from National Open University, still has a scar from when he was robbed and beaten near miami market.

He had a paper due the next day for his art class and had been restless all night, so the student who preferred not to disclose his full name, decided to take his friend’s bike around the neighborhood to clear his head.

“I got down to the next block when I heard someone running up behind me,” he said. “I kept going, and as soon as I turned around and started pedaling, he put a gun to my head and pushed me off my bike.”

What happened next, the student said, was quick, but it remains clear in his mind.

“He held a gun to my head, and another guy must have come up next to me because I started getting hit out of nowhere. I didn’t even see the guy coming,” He said. “They told me to get down, so I laid down on the ground, and the guy continued to keep hitting me. I tried to protect myself, and because I was protecting my face, he kept having to hit around my hands.

The attackers kept asking for money, He said, but he had not taken any because he was afraid his wallet would fall out of his pocket while riding.“The whole time, one guy is digging through my shorts trying to find money, and the other guy just keeps hitting me to distract me,” he said. “One just grabbed my shorts and ripped them off, and I guess just to humiliate me he took my underwear, too. It was insult to injury.”

It was not until later the student learned his attackers had assaulted two others in the same way on the same night and were arrested after being filmed on a convenience store camera. He said he believes if there were a stronger police presence in high-crime areas, the criminals would have been caught sooner.

The student said if he knew the amount of crime was prone to, he would have never chosen to live there in the first place.

Another resident in that area said she terminated her lease early in order to move to a safer neighborhood.

She said that she was constantly worried about break-ins in the area except if the police presences were increased in the area.

Michael, one of the students living nearby said his apartment was broken into just a couple of weeks ago.

According to him,he walked up to his room and the door was left open, the drawers were pushed down and all of his stuff was thrown around. They stole his home theatre, laptop and some cash.

At that time, neighbours were unavailable for comment.

The security officials said they are trying to collaborate with the Police Department to resolve issues with off-campus crime because it is getting out of hand.

The Ministry of Education has explained its position on the alleged harmonizing of the degrees and diploms acquired at universities, polytechnics and colleges. Benjamin Goong, the spokesperson for the ministry, has refuted the latest reports on the dichotomy abolishment between Bachelors and HNDs. He once again stressed that HND holders are obliged to meet new requirements to attain the Bachelors level.Mr Goong said: “Two weeks ago, the ministry sent a memo to the National Council of Establishments (NCE) to institute a bridging program for the HND holders and the proposal was approved.
The bridging program is for HND holders who can either attend the National Teachers Institute (NTI) or any institution offering post-graduate diploma programs, before they can attain the level graduates can attain in the public sector. As per the approved memo, after the bridging program, HND holders will now be offered jobs from grade level 8 and finish at grade level 17 like graduates. Before now, HND holders were only allowed grade level 7 and finish at grade level 14.
That is as far as it goes for now regarding the B.Sc and HND dichotomy. Both are still very different from each other,” he said. He, however, noted that the government is doing everything possible to reduce the difference between both classes of educated people and ensure equal jobs.
Thanks.
