The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Thursday arraigned a former Executive Secretary, Lagos State Scholarship Board, Stephen Oshinowo, for alleged N127m fraud. Oshinowo, according to a statement by the EFCC, was arraigned on amended eight counts before the Lagos State Special Offences Court in Ikeja. Among others, the EFCC alleged that as a civil servant, Oshinowo, sometime in 2018, “dishonourably converted N30m, being property of Lagos State, to the use of Oshinowo Adenike.” He was also accused of “dishonourably converting to your own use, through Julikam International Limited, a sum of N39, 934,919.” Oshinowo, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges. The prosecuting counsel for the EFCC, Mr Usman Buhari, prayed the court to fix a date for trial and to remand the defendant in custody. The defence lawyer, Mr Lawal Pedro (SAN), prayed for a short adjournment to move a bail application on behalf of his client. Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo, in a short ruling, adjourned the matter till Friday (today) to hear the bail application. She, however, ordered that Oshinowo should be remanded in the correctional centre. https://punchng.com/ex-scholarship-boss-arraigned-for-n127m-fraud/

A top Dutch diplomat, Hans Smaling, has been sacked from his position after comments about alleged unethical conduct and corruption indulged in by the country’s businesses operating in Nigeria. Smaling, who was stationed in Nigeria between 2015 and 2018 to lobby for the economic interests of the Netherlands, had repeatedly warned the country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs of 'endemic corruption' in Nigeria. According to Smaling, it was impossible to advance Dutch businesses in Nigeria without making dirty hands, NRC, a Dutch online news outlet reported. “Bringing in assignments in Nigeria without paying a bribe? Impossible. Do Nigerian politicians get excited about Dutch companies without gifts? Impossible. And proclaim this message in The Hague? Just as complicated, unfortunately,” he reportedly said. He said the country was in Nigeria for itself and his advocacy for Netherlands to work on the investment climate, on building the country, on macroeconomic stability, reforms and regulation did not find favour with authorities at the foreign ministry. The newspaper report said Smaling’s position was created in 2012 after the Foreign Economic Relations Department was transferred from Economic Affairs to Foreign Affairs Ministry. The new position was created for ‘promoting the competitive position of the Netherlands’: that of economic envoy/regional business developer. These special envoys were stationed in areas of economic interest to the Netherlands such as Singapore, Dubai, Lima, Copenhagen and Nigeria. After 34 years of field service, Smaling knows perfectly well how Dutch business operates abroad as well as how to facilitate this as a diplomat and how to keep an appropriate distance from it. Dutch Ambassador Leaked Information To Shell On Investigation Into Company’s Operations In Nigeria 0 Comments3 Weeks Ago “I wrote a contribution in the weekend folder for the ministers. In it, I addressed endemic corruption in Nigeria. I wrote that I found it strange that the Dutch Government facilitates companies that have to deal with corrupt practices. "We are not going back to the times of the Governor-General in the former Dutch East Indies, Abraham van Riebeeck, who said: It is immoral but beneficial. I also mentioned Shell. It was clear that no company – not even Shell – escapes gross corruption in Nigeria.” Smaling also spoke regularly with Mr Petri, the ambassador removed from his post in 2019 after he himself leaked secret information about the criminal investigation on Shell to the oil company. http://saharareporters.com/2020/07/01/diplomat-sacked-exposing-how-dutch-government-companies-engage-corruption-nigeria

The Yobe State Government has declared a zero case on admission after discharging all patients, who initially tested positive for COVID-19 in the state. Vice Chairman of the state committee on COVID-19 and Commissioner for Health, Dr Mohammed Lawan Gana, made the revelation at the end of the committee’s 14th meeting held on Wednesday in Damaturu. He said the remaining three patients in the state isolation center had been discharged after meeting clinical criteria. “We don’t really need negative results to discharge patients. There are clinical criteria for discharging patients. “So as it is when patients meet the discharge criteria, we actually discharge them based on the clinical guidelines and then follow them up according to the guidelines,” he said. Meanwhile, the committee’s chairman and deputy governor of the state, Idi Barde Gubana, announced the reopening of schools in Yobe in line with the Federal Government’s resolution of opening schools for final year students. http://saharareporters.com/2020/07/01/yobe-discharges-all-covid-19-patients-declares-zero-case-admission

The governor on Tuesday confirmed on his verified Twitter account that he contracted the virus and had gone on self-isolation. He explained that he had few days ago showed symptoms of malaria and had it treated. The governor added that he was later advised to take the malaria more serious by undergoing further tests. He said, "As at the time we had our party National Executive Council meeting, my colleagues called on me and I spoke with one of them who felt that malaria should not be treated lightly and I should go ahead and have a test of COVID-19. "The result came out today 30th June, 2020 and I tested positive but asymptomatic. I'm not feeling sick nor feeling hot in any way. "Let me assure our people that as you can see me, there are many of us that don't have the symptoms that is there and you cannot see it. "This time, we would conduct another test and we will know the result. Let me assure our people that the work is going on." He advised the people of the state to avoid any physical gathering and take their health more serious. The latest development came barely a week after the governor was seen in a video flouting the social distancing guideline during his visit to Abuja. Also, there are fears that some members of the Ondo State House of Assembly, who were with the governor during the visit might have contracted the virus. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b4DvSiq0cLA http://saharareporters.com/2020/06/30/how-i-contracted-coronavirus-%E2%80%94ondo-governor-akeredolu

Tuesday at the High Court in Akure, the state's Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Adekola Olawoye, who is also the lead prosecutor, said the defense counsel was dragging the matter by repeting witnesses. Prosecutor in the ongoing trial of Prophet Alfa Babatunde, founder of Sotitobire Miracle Centre, Akure, over the case of a missing one-year-old boy, Eniola Gold kolawole, has frowned at the slow pace of the case. At the resumed hearing of the case on Tuesday at the High Court in Akure, the state's Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Adekola Olawoye, who is also the lead prosecutor, said the defense counsel was dragging the matter by repeting witnesses. Prophet Babatunde had last week opened his defense before the High Court through his lawyer, Olusola Oke. Mr Taiwo Fagite, Personal Assistant to the Deji of Akure, Oba Ogunlade Aladetoyinbo, appeared in court on Tuesday as the 4th witness for the defense. Fagite alleged that the parents of the missing boy, Kolawole, were not forthcoming after they reported the case at the palace until they were made to swear an oath in the palace alongside the 14 teachers of the church. He said the Akure monarch had invited both Prophet Babatunde and the boy's parents but only the cleric showed up. During cross-examination, Fagite also said the prophet during his first visit to the palace came with a senior police officer. The 5th witness for the defense, Funmilayo Ogunlusi, a cleric in the church, said they had a vigil the day the incident occurred and a nine-day fast and prayer by ministers for the recovery of the child. Lead defence counsel, Oke, told the court that he would not be calling the earlier slated 6th witness to avoid repetition of facts and asked the court for an adjournment. Justice Olusegun Odunsola in his ruling adjourned the case until July 14, 2020 following the application of the lead defence counsel. Odusola also ordered that Prophet Babatunde and his six co-defendants were returned to the facility of the Nigeria Correctional Service in Olokuta, Akure. http://saharareporters.com/2020/07/01/missing-toddler-prosecutor-laments-delay-ongoing-trial-ondo-prophet-others

CosmicJames:Four digit code can only be sent to your mobile number used in registering your PayPal account. But what is sent to your bank account that is connected to your card is two mini deposit from PayPal. Not a code. PayPal don't send code to your account. They only send two small deposit. So recheck your bank statement and u shid find two separate small amount deposited by PayPal. That is what u will be able to use to confirm your card. But if there is any changes that I'm not aware of, then i guess other gurus in the house can come and help clarify better. I hope this helps. |
