PhonesRe: Surviving A Day In Lagos Without Your Charger by Dimmah: 10:27pm On Sep 28, 2025
Hisashi:
Anyone who has battled Lagos traffic knows the real test of a phone isn’t how many megapixels it has; it’s whether the battery can outlast the day. Between streaming music in traffic, endless WhatsApp groups, and the occasional ride hailing app struggle, a weak battery is the fastest way to get stranded.

That’s why savvy Nigerians often look for phones that don’t panic when NEPA does. Long battery life, a sturdy design, and quick charging are worth more than all the glossy ads combined.

Some newer models get this balance right. A phone like the realme C75, with its big battery and reliable performance, quietly takes away the daily “low battery” anxiety, making it easier to survive Lagos traffic, power cuts, and everything in between.
C71 might be the daily driver for many, 2-day battery is sweet dream

PhonesRe: My Thoughts On The Recent Realme C Series by Dimmah: 6:36pm On Aug 31, 2025
Astraeus:
I’ve been wrapping my notes on the realme C75, and last time we talked about the C75x showing up with a tougher build and smoother screen. This week, I pulled on a different thread: the realme C71 the budget sibling that keeps popping up in my inbox and comment section.

Quick read on it: this one is very “battery-first.” Big cell, quick top-ups, and the usual budget comforts that actually matter day to day headphone jack, microSD, side fingerprint. The display is HD+ with a higher refresh rate (varies by region), so it feels snappy even if it isn’t the sharpest panel in the family. The chipset is entry-level; fine for socials, maps, and streaming, not a gaming pick. Cameras look serviceable: daylight > low light, with processing that leans toward point-and-post rather than heavy tinkering. Durability claims are louder than I expected at this price, which is interesting given what we just saw with the C75x.

Where it lands in this little trio:

C75 = sharper screen, more “classic” mid-range feel.

C75x = durability + smoother scroll.

C71 = stretch your battery and your money, accept simpler specs elsewhere.

If you want, I can run the C71 through the same week-long routine I used on the C75; battery logs, camera samples, and a “can it replace my main phone for a week?”
Na the fast charging feature dey sweet me pass, 45W no be joke at all

Have used techno smartphone, but presently am using the realmC61 smartphone, honestly I can't speak less of this brand am using now,it really satisfying, when it comes to durability check ✅, camera quality check ✅, smooth performance check ✅ fast charging and long lasting battery check ✅ .

ote author=Khay2 post=136637634]The smartphone market in Nigeria keeps expanding, and users now have so many options depending on budget and preference. Popular names like Samsung, Xiaomi, Tecno, and Infinix are already established, but newer players are also trying to make their mark.

One brand that has been pushing recently is realme. They’ve launched models like the Note 50, C61, C75, C75x, and most recently the C71. From what I’ve seen, they focus a lot on battery life, durability, decent performance, and fast charging in the budget–midrange segment. They’ve also started opening service centers in cities across the country, like Lagos, Kano and Port Harcourt, which is good for after-sales support.

That being said, every brand seems to have its strong and weak points, some focus more on cameras, others on design, gaming, or durability.

👉 So, I’m curious:

Which phone brands have impressed you the most recently?

Has anyone here tried realme devices, and how’s the experience compared to Tecno, Infinix, Xiaomi, or Samsung?

What do you personally look out for first when buying a new phone?

Let’s hear your thoughts.
