CrimeBritish Man Jailed For Stabbing Ghanaian Wife by Diorin(op): 2:30pm On Nov 04, 2015
A 38-year-old British-Ghanaian, Minta Adiddo, has been slapped with a 17 years jail term for stabbing his wife.

The wife, Akua Agyemang,32, also a Ghanaian died at the hospital while nursing the knife wounds.

Mr Adiddo, from Enfield, North London, had pleaded guilty to manslaughter, although he denied murder.

He told the UK court that heard the case that he suspected his wife was having an affair with their neighbour Oledapo Etti-Williams in October 2012.

Etti-Williams denied it, but said they exchanged three to four 'sometimes flirtatious' texts a day - and phone records showed they had sometimes sent as many as 80 messages in one day.

On November 5, 2012, Adiddo stabbed his wife with a large kitchen knife in their bedroom while their one-year-old daughter slept in a cot next to them.

Ms Agyeman managed to escape through the living room window, waking neighbours with her screams.

But her husband chased her down and stabbed her again kiss in the street as she lay on the ground, leaving her with 15 separate stab wounds.

Adiddo fled the scene but was arrested after police spotted him driving his car shortly the next day still wearing his blood-stained shirt.

In a phone call to a relative, Addo admitted stabbing his wife and said he planned to kill himself before police caught up with him.

When Ms. Agyeman was in the Royal London Hospital, Adiddo sent her a Christmas card ascribing his behavior to 'Satan' and 'devils'.

'I know the devil used Williams to destroy our family,' he wrote. 'Please, please, please, I need forgiveness from you - open yourself to God.'

In victim impact statements read to the court, Ms Agyeman's family said the 'vibrant, sociable and intelligent' 32-year-old was 'irreplaceable.'

TV/MoviesRisked My Life For TV3 – Nana Aba by Diorin(op): 7:45am On Nov 04, 2015
Ace broadcaster, Nana Aba Anamoah, has expressed disappointment at her former employer, TV3, saying there were times she risked her life for the station.

“I recall with fondness how my very distinguished TV career journey began at TV3. The struggles and sacrifices we endured, sometimes at the expense of our lives and the risk of losing close families and friends.”

Nana Aba resigned from TV3 on Monday citing largely ingratitude on the part of her employer.

The presenter had been involved in a media frenzy following her prank twitter post.

She was later suspended indefinitely by the station.

Nana Aba, who felt betrayed over her suspension, lamented that she went through “thick and thin” to project the image of TV3.

I tried to resign so many times

In her resignation letter, Nana Aba recounted how she shelved her career and future ambitions, as a sign of respect, to serve the company diligently.

“My firm belief, unquestionable loyalty and commitment to the TV3 brand have never been in doubt. Indeed, I did everything humanly possible to guard jealously, protect firmly and stand by TV3 through thick and thin; an action that has earned me many foes within my social circles. I tried to resign on a number of occasions to pursue other interests or further academic studies, but TV3 persuaded me to defer my decision on all occasions. Out of respect, I obliged.”

She said, “the decision by the management and board of TV3 to suspend me was rather disappointing and a sign of ingratitude from an organization that I have committed twelve years of my adult life to.”

“For something I consider peripheral and not even remotely connected to the elements of my job (which I have delivered with uttermost capability), I was expecting the management and board to be more circumspect in their decision making; suffice to say you have a responsibility to manage an organization and

I also have a responsibility to pursue my chosen career honorably and all the respect that I can garner,“ she added.

I will fight photo theft tag

She further reiterated her earlier position that “ I have never been involved in what you described as photo theft and will do everything within my power to repair the damage that your publication may have caused.”

CrimeYoung Woman Stoned To Death For Adultery In Afghanistan by Diorin(op): 7:19am On Nov 04, 2015
An Afghan woman has been stoned to death after being accused of adultery in a remote western province controlled by the Taliban, according to local media.
The video of the stoning in Ghor province came out late on Monday and has been widely discussed on social media in Afghanistan with many people appalled by the scenes.

Governor of the province has attested to the authenticity of the video.

Governor Sima Joyenda told Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty Afghanistan that the killing took place in the village of Ghalmin.

The stoning occurred around six days ago after the local tribal council found her guilty of having pre-marital sex with her fiancé, officials told DPA agency.

The fiancé was lashed but the 19-year-old woman, named as Rokhshana, was stoned to death.

"The custom and culture of rural Afghanistan is much more strict, girls cannot simply run from home in the hope of a better life," said Maryam Muhammadi, an Afghan youth and women's activist in Kabul.

"It is absurd that the government of Afghanistan lets this happen."

Mustafa Mohseni, police chief in Ghor, said little could be done at this stage.

"The area is controlled by the Taliban," said Mohseni, adding that "the government will follow-up on the incident, once the area comes under our authority".

In the video, the woman is put in a hole with only her head visible and several men surround the hole, throwing stones at her head.

The woman's screams can be heard while the men shout "Allah hu Akbar" meaning "God is Almighty".

Early in September, an Afghan man and a woman received 100 lashes for committing adultery in the same province.

In March, an Afghan woman was killed for allegedly burning the Quran in the capital Kabul, in front of the police, which resulted in a public outcry across the nation.

TV/MoviesWhy I Resigned From TV3 - Nana Aba by Diorin(op): 12:33pm On Nov 03, 2015
The action comes after the ‘Diva’ host was suspended following controversies that emerged on social media when pictures she tweeted suggesting she was at Old Trafford to watch her favourite team Manchester United turned out not to be hers.

In a statement released by the media house on Saturday, October 3, 2015, TV3 said: “After preliminary investigations internally, and in accordance with TV3’s own commitment to the highest level of professionalism, Management has decided to take Nana Aba Anamoah off air until further notice".

In her resignation letter, which was leaked to the media, Nana Aba expressed disappointment at the decision to suspend her, describing it as a sign of "ingratitude" on TV3's part.

News caster and TV presenter, Nana Aba Anamoah, on Monday, resigned from TV3, a television broadcaster in Ghana.

PoliticsIt’s Nonsense To Speak English In Ghana – Akua Donkor by Diorin(op): 7:30am On Nov 03, 2015
She has never been heard in public speaking the Queen’s language [English] – but Madam Akua Donkor claims she is very eloquent and has “little” command over the English language.

According to her, she can never make other country's language her priority – after asking that “is English our mother tongue?”

Her explanation comes after host of NEAT FM’s morning show 'Ghana Montie', Kwasi Aboagye asked whether she understood proceedings at the two-day event by the Electoral Commission [EC] to discuss the future of Ghana’s voters’ register.

The EC forum was moderated by five eminent personalities to collate different views about the electoral roll which credibility is being questioned.

The Founder and leader of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), Akua Donkor who only used the local dialect [Twi] to express her views on the voters’ register insisted that she did that purposely.

“I am not illiterate as some believe. I deal with well-educated people and I express myself well to their understanding but I don’t speak the English language often because it’s not my language. It’s unfortunate Ghanaians value the English language than their mother-tongue. Even the foreigners make fun of us. No Chinese will speak English, they value theirs.”

“It’s nonsense and shameful for us [Ghanaians] to speak English after sacking our colonial masters. If we want to speak English then we should bring them back to Ghana to rule us. I will never speak English…I value my own language and I’m proud of it,” she added.

Music/RadioShatta Wale's Revelation Great Lead For The Police – Kwaw Kese by Diorin(op): 9:55pm On Nov 02, 2015
Hip-life artisite Kwaw Kese has said a recent revelation by dancehall artiste Shatta Wale that his estranged former Manager Bulldog threatened to kill him (Shatta) “like I did the other guy,” is a “great lead” for the Police towards unravelling the mystery surrounding the murder of Fennec Okyere a year ago.

“This is a great lead to the police to do justice to whomever had a hand in Fennec’s murder,” Kwaw Kese told Starr FM Monday November 2, 2015 in an interview.

“My day has been miserable…it’s crazy," he reacted to Wale's revelation, adding: "This thing is very pathetic."

"If really there’s truth in it, then we have to watch out for the people around us,” he warned.

Okyere, who managed Kwaw Kese until his death, was found gunned down in his residence last year.

The Police are still investigating the matter. Bulldog of Bullhaus Entertainment was implicated in the murder, but was later acquitted and discharged of any wrongdoing.

Shatta Wale told journalists at a press conference in Accra Monday that: “I have repeated the part about him [Bulldog] threatening to kill me twice and I won't hide it. Somebody asked him: ‘Bulldog are you not the same person, who has issues to answer in Ghana about things like these?’ And he responded: ‘Don't mind him; I will kill him like l killed the other guy’” Shatta Wale alleged.

The ‘other guy’ Shatta Wale made reference to is what has intrigued people, who were closely associated with Fennec, including MP Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, who told Starr FM she had passed on the new information to the Police.

Shatta Wale’s accusations come on the heels of a recent announcement by Bullhaus Entertainment that it had ended its relationship with the hard-talking self-acclaimed ‘dancehall king.’

“The management of Bullhaus Entertainment wishes to bring to the notice of the general public that we no longer have a working relationship with multiple award-winning artiste, Charles Nii Armah Mensah A.K.A. Shatta Wale effective immediately,” the statement said.

It added: “We are humbled to have been part of the success story up until this point, and wish Shatta Wale all the best in his future endeavours. We also wish to thank Shatta Wale and his Shatta Movement team for choosing us as managers for his professional career for these past years. We will forever be fans of Shatta Wale and his music and still believe in the mantra of the Shatta Movement. ‘Shatta Movement for life’”.

Asked if he thought Shatta Wale could be hurling the accusations against Bulldog to get even with Bullhaus Entertainment for ending relations with him, Kwaw Kese said: “I don’t think you can say stuff like this to make somebody feel bad…to me Fennec was murdered and the case has been pending for more than a year…it’s a serious allegation and I’m hoping the police will not sleep on this.”

Music/RadioBulldog Threatened To Kill Me – Shatta Wale by Diorin(op): 5:07pm On Nov 02, 2015

Controversial dancehall artist Shatta Wale has made the wildest allegation yet against his former manager, claiming Bulldog in a fist of anger, threatened to kill him

“I have repeated the part about him threatening to kill me twice and i won't hide it. Somebody asked him; Bulldog are you not the same person who has issues to answer in Ghana about thing like these, and he responded ; don't mind him , I will kill him like i killed the other guy," the Shatta Movement king told the media at press conference in Accra today.

It is unclear the individual Shatta made reference to, but Bulldog was charged over the murder of another entertainment personality Fennec Okyere last year. He has, however, been acquitted and discharged in the case.

The ‘Dancehall Commando’ hitmaker also alleged that his former ally is responsible for his poor public image.

“I remember in some time past, he recorded my conversations and sent them to people abroad”.

He added that Bulldog was cheap and was taking monies from people in his name without his consent.

Bullhaus Entertainment last week, officially announced the end of the working relationship with the maverick entertainer.

“The management of Bullhaus Entertainment wishes to bring to the notice of the general public that we no longer have a working relationship with multiple award winning artiste, Charles Nii Armah Mensah A.K.A.

‘Shatta Movement for life”.

SportsDo You Think Mourinho Deserves More Time At Chelsea? by Diorin(op): 9:18pm On Nov 01, 2015
Avram Grant, the man who replaced José Mourinho at Stamford Bridge after his first spell ended acrimoniously in 2007, feels the Portuguese deserves to be given more time to turn things around.

“It’s one man’s decision but if you ask me I think Jose needs to continue with the job and solve the problem by himself,” the Israeli said.

“Sometimes when you are inside you know the problem better than anybody.

“We know the past of José, that he did so well for Chelsea, so he deserves more time.”

Rumours of a dressing-room revolt against Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho continue to gather legs, but Ray Wilkins does not believe senior players are against the manager.

The Blues suffered their sixth defeat in 11 Premier League matches against Liverpool on Saturday, increasing the pressure on the Portuguese.

There have been suggestions that his relationship with some key players is approaching breaking point but Wilkins, who worked on the club’s coaching staff under Luiz Felipe Scolari and Carlo Ancelotti, thinks that is unlikely.

“I think they’re behind Mourinho – they’re just not performing,” he said.

“That’s one of José’s major assets. He has the ability not to control but to actually talk and get all the players on his side.

“I believe Chelsea have some wonderful senior pros in there that will control the dressing room, as they have done for the last ‘x’ amount of years.”

Wilkins added that any disillusionment was more likely to come from those who were not in favour rather than those involved in Chelsea’s poor run.

“In any dressing room, if a player isn’t selected, a player’s unhappy. You keep 11 and the rest are disgruntled.”

Speculation is rising as to whether owner Roman Abramovich will fire Mourinho for the second time, but a paucity of viable alternatives may be in his favour.

“I think José will (still) be in the job,” Wilkins said. “Who can take over? There’s only Carlo Ancelotti out there at the moment that is out of work and can fill the position. I think they’ll continue with José.”

BusinessAccra Gets First ‘chop Bar’ Mall At Achimota by Diorin(op): 9:15am On Nov 01, 2015

Ghana’s latest mall at Achimota will be the first to host a ‘chop bar’ - a local eatery which serves local dishes such as ampese, fufu, banku, konkonte among others.

The Achimota Retail Center was built by Delico Achimota Ghana Limited.

According to managers of the facility, they want the edifice to be the main convergence point of the locals in the community.
“The developers looked at the fact that this whole area lacks recreational items and they have as many as nine eateries as well; this community is set to transform,” an official told Starr Business.

The architectural design is environmentally friendly with energy efficient features. The new mall, situated close to the St. John’s Grammar School at Dome will be the latest addition to the emergence of modern retail facilities in Accra.

The 14,500sqm mall commenced business Thursday, October 29. It houses two anchor tenants and more than 45 line shops, offering goods and services in different retail categories including grocery and food, lifestyle, electronics, fashion, beauty and wellness, telecommunication among others.

SportsMourinho Expects To Remain At Chelsea Despite Latest Defeat by Diorin(op): 8:28am On Nov 01, 2015
A defiant Jose Mourinho expects to continue as Chelsea boss despite Liverpool inflicting a sixth defeat in 11 Barclays Premier League games this term.

Mourinho was once again fuming at perceived injustices against his side, notably the decision not to show Liverpool's Lucas a second yellow card when the score was 1-1.

Two further strikes followed in Liverpool's 3-1 win, which left Chelsea with one win in eight games.

Asked if he thought the game was his last as Chelsea boss, Mourinho said: "No."

Mourinho, who was subject to the first managerial vote of confidence in Roman Abramovich's 12-year ownership on October 5, will be wary of what the future holds.

Abramovich was absent from Stamford Bridge so did not witness the defeat or hear the defiant and supportive chants from the home faithful.

After a terse television interview, Mourinho was initially asked his thoughts on the contest in the post-match media conference and declined to give them.

"I'd like to listen more than being questioned," he said.

He was asked how a side which cantered to the title in May had fallen off the pace so much.

"Did you see the game?" he responded.

Next he was asked about Lucas avoiding a second yellow for a foul on Ramires.

"What do you think? You are not punished by the FA. I'm punished if I tell you," said Mourinho, who is subject to two separate and ongoing disciplinary procedures from the Football Association.

"There are things that are out of our hands," Mourinho added.

"Two minutes extra time (at the end of the first half), we concede the goal on two minutes 35 seconds.

"Then what happened in the second half everything is a consequence of some crucial moments.

"Moments that the stadium saw, the players more than see, the players felt it, from now, what happens is just a consequence."

Mourinho was asked about the support from the Chelsea fans, who sang his name often throughout, and took the opportunity to make a veiled criticism of referee Mark Clattenburg and his officials.

"I have some players really sad in the dressing room and I am full of respect for them. We see it match after match," Mourinho added.

"As professionals they are not getting the respect they deserve. I don't think we, myself and them, are not going to have a great Saturday dinner, even families for sure.

"They have the same feelings that we have and I'm really sorry with that lack of respect for professionals."

Asked to explain what he meant by lack of respect, Mourinho said: "You are all intelligent guys. If you want to write, you write.

"Next press conference I will bring you nice glasses, maybe you see the game in a better way."

Mourinho plans to prepare for Wednesday's Champions League Group G clash with Dynamo Kiev as normal.

"I go home, I go find a sad family," he said.

"I will try to watch some of the rugby (World Cup final) and disconnect a little bit from this.

"Then I will start preparing the training session for tomorrow morning and the game for Wednesday."

Nairaland GeneralBishop Obinim Freed In Alleged Assault Case On Journalist by Diorin(op): 11:01am On Oct 30, 2015
The Head Pastor of the International Godsway Ministries, Bishop Daniel Obinim, has been acquitted and discharged by an Accra High Court for allegedly assaulting a radio panelist at Hot FM, an Accra-based radio station in 2011.

According to the ruling by presiding judge Justice Abdulai Iddrisu, the prosecution failed to provide credible evidence to back the charges against the accused, as the witnesses contradicted themselves in court.

The judge further stated that the prosecution failed to call relevant witnesses who could have given more credible evidence in the case.

Bishop Obinim and his accomplices, who were offended by a discussion where he was accused of allegedly having sex with the wife of Pastor Williams Fobi, a junior pastor of his church, was accused of going to the Adabraka-based radio station with a crowbar and sticks to damage their property.

According to the prosecution, they attacked the staff and vandalized studio equipment, and inflicted injuries on the host and other panelists including Rev. William Amoako-Atta.

Shadrach Adu, a victim who managed to escape, reported the issue to the Adabraka Police, after which the accused persons were arrested.
