Nigeria SPEAKER inspects Dome Isolation Centre Donated by Chairman This Day Newspaper in Abuja COVID-19: Gbajabiamila inspects FCT isolation centre …expresses satisfaction over facility The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rep. Femi Gbajabiamila on Wednesday expressed satisfaction over efforts put together by some stakeholders to contribute to the fight against COVID-19 in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Gbajabiamila spoke when he paid an inspection visit to one of the isolation centres in FCT located at the Thisday Dome, where he noted that the action by the Sahara Group, Thisday Media Group and CCECC who put resources together for the conversion of the event centre to an over 300-bed isolation centre was commendable and worthy of emulation. The Speaker, who was accompanied by Chairmen of the House Committees on Health Service, Health Institutions and the Ad hoc Committee on Covid-19, Rep. Tanko Sununu, Rep. Pascal Obi and Rep. Haruna Mshelia respectively, among others was received at the facility by the Minister of State for Health, Sen. Olorunnimbe Mamora, the Chairman of Thisday Media Group, Nduka Obaigbena, Chief Executive Officer of Sahara Group, Tope Shonubi, among others. Noting that the visit was part of the oversight responsibility of the House, the Speaker said: "What I’m seeing here today is even beyond my expectation, a comprehensive well-equipped facility, about 300-bed isolation centre. "The people that put this together thought about everything, there’s an Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and the facility is made as comfortable as possible for whoever is coming here, whether as workers or as patients. “We are here as part of our oversight to see what is going on and the state of preparedness. We are happy because with facilities like this will ensure proper management of the virus that seems to have ravaged the whole world. “This is commendable for the three groups, who have deployed the use of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) into the establishment of this place. There can’t be any Corporate Social Responsibly beyond this," Gbajabiamila said. On his part, the Minister of State for Health, Mamora, said from what was put on ground, the concerns over where to keep infected people after being tested and confirmed have been addressed with the facility. He said the centre would go a long way in the fight against Covid-19 in the FCT and the country as a whole. Thisday Newspapers Chairman, Obaigbena and Sahara Group CEO, Shonubi said the need for all hands to be on deck to tackle the disease was the reason they put resources together to put up the facility. The Speaker and his entourage were conducted round the facility by the project coordinator Dr Peter Nmadu. Today I visited the yet-to-be used Dome isolation center in Abuja together with the Chairmen of both Health Committees in the House and their Deputies. Joining us during the visit were the Chairman of This Day Newspapers who donated the land and structure, the MD and leadership of Sahara Energy who initiated and kick started the project and the Minister of State for Health. The project is impressive and I thank all the partners for this CSR.
The Minister for state Education on reacting to the questions asked him by honorable members at the house of representatives on the possible ways of educating school children while at home, he said that there are television programmes going on and also radio programmes, He went further to say that those parents who have radio through which their children can use to listen the teachings have financial issues that they could not even afford a TIGER BATTERY, He claimed that TIGER BATTERY is now a palliative. In Addition He said that some states should borrow leaf from IMO state who have a project of giving all IMSU students a laptop at first year, but they will be making twenty thousand installment payment every year.
chriskosherbal: Becareful boy, God is no respecter of persons, don't provoke his wrath ....life will be unbearable for you, remember you are an ordinary mortal.
Acidosis: This is becoming too much. Why can't health workers attend to patients?? I don't even understand anymore. If the average Nigerian is told to go out with nose masks why can't health workers attend to sick individuals with the same nose mask and other protective wears??
The fear of Covid-19 might cost us more as a nation.
I don't think the government should be blamed though. Majority of the clinics in Nigeria are privately-owned and the appropriate thing is to instruct owners of these clinics to make available for all staff the necessary PPE.
