The Federal government has ordered the immediate sack of all directors in the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA). The letter of their dismissal was issued from the Ministry of Transport.

Confirming the dismissals to newsmen, the general manager of NCAA, Sam Adurugboye, said the reason for the sack was however not stated in the letter.


“It is true that the directors have been disengaged but I don’t have details of the reasons given for the action by the ministry,” he said.

Those affected include Alhaji Salawu Ozigi (Director of Finance and Accounts), Dr Joyce Nkemakolam (Director of Aerodrome and Airspace Standards), Mr Aba Ejembi (Director of Administration) and Mr Emmanuel Ogunbami (Director of Licensing), Mr Benedict Adeyileka (Director of Airworthiness), Mr Justus Wariya (Director of Air Transport Regulation), Alhaji Adamu Abdullahi (Director of Consumer Protection), Capt. Ayodele Sasegbon (Director of General Aviation), and Mr Austin-Amadi Ifeanyi (Director of Human Resources).

Recall that Acting President Yemi Osinbajo paid an unscheduled visit to the Murtala Mohammed International Airport yesterday where he inspected facilities at the airport.

Justice S.M Shuaibu of the Federal High Court sitting in Kaduna today February 24th, 2017 gave an interim order of forfeiture of the seventeen vehicles found in the warehouse of former comptroller General of Customs, Abdullahi Dikko Inde.

The order was sequel to an exparte application deposed to by one Adamu Waziri, an operative of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, filed on the 23rd of February, 2017.



However, while moving the application, Nasiru Salele, counsel for the applicant, submitted that the applicant is asking for an interim forfeiture to the Federal Government of Nigeria of seventeen (17) vehicles which are now in the custody of the EFCC and such further order as the court may deem fit to make.


In his ruling, Justice Shuaibu held that “the seventeen (17) vehicles which are now in the custody of the applicant, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and as properly described and listed in the schedule marked exhibit EFCC 2 attached to the affidavit in support of the application are hereby forfeited to the Federal Government of Nigeria in the interim pending conclusion of the investigation”.


It would be recalled that on the 20th day of February, 2017 operatives of the Commission had stormed the warehouse of the former Customs boss on Nnamdi Azikwe Street, Kaduna and discovered seventeen exotic vehicles worth Hundreds of millions suspected to be proceeds of crime.

Four men have been apprehended in Lagos state for allegedly producing fake engine oil.

The , Agu Ndubuisi, John Ibem, Samuel Chukwuonye and Lawrence Frank, were paraded weekend at the state Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, in Ikeja, the state capital.

The Commandant, NSCDC, Lagos Command, Tajudeen Balogun, who paraded the , said operatives of the Corps swooped on the based on intelligence report.

Balogun said, “They were arrested on Thursday at a factory on Marine Bridge Street, Apapa, where the lubricant was produced in large quantity.




“They were caught where they were doing illegal mixing. The oil can destroy car engines.

“Five jerrycans containing the counterfeit product and a bucket of gum used in the factory were recovered.

“A laboratory test is ongoing on the product in order to confirm its counterfeit nature and to serve as evidence against them.

“They would face the full weight of the law to serve as a deterrent to others,” the Commandant added, stating that the factory owner, identified only as Emeka, took to his heels and was still at large.

“We will get him and make him face the law,” Balogun said.

Meanwhile, the branded the counterfeit product in the name of a leading lubricant producer in the country in order to deceive unsuspecting members of the public.

Twenty-three-year-old Chukwuonye from Anambra State said he did not know the factory produced adulterated engine oil until he was arrested.

“I was arrested the first day I worked with them,” he added.

Frank, 23, said, “My duty is to load the product inside buses for it to be taken to the market. But I don’t know where it is sold.

“I know it is adulterated. It was joblessness that made me join the factory. I just finished from secondary school last year,” he confessed.

On his part, Ndubuisi, 19, who hails from Ebonyi State, said five drums of the counterfeit oil with 250 litres each were produced daily at the factory.

The teenager said he was paid N8, 000 per week, adding that he wanted to use his wages to fund his higher education.

According to him, “I am one of the manufacturers at the factory. We produce about five drums per day.

“The oil is packaged inside four-litre jerrycans. But I don’t know the price for each. It is our boss, Emeka that markets the product.

“He does not disclose the price to us. He gives me N8, 000 per week. I just finished my secondary school and I intend to continue my education.”

Ibem, an indigene of Abia State, who regretted working at the factory, said his role was to package the oil into jerrycans in readiness for sale.

He said, “I joined the factory in February 2015. I collected N8, 000 per week. My work is to package the oil for sale but it is our boss that takes it to the market.”

A Nigerian accountant and part-time pastor in the United Kingdom, Samuel Kayode, has been sentenced to nine years in prison for stealing £4.1million.

Kayode was sentenced on Friday by Woolwich Crown Court in South London for defrauding Haberdashers’ Aske’s state schools in the UK.

The part-time pastor, who earned £57, 000 per annum, was convicted after being found guilty of £150,000 theft and £3.95million fraud.

Out of the £4.1million, only £800, 000 was recovered from him.

Described as “dishonest” and “greedy”, the court heard how Kayode lavished the stolen money on four women, his wife, Grace; a second ‘wife’ in Nigeria, Olubunmi Halima; and two other women in the UK.

British prosecutor, James Thacker, said he also bought luxury cars including a Mercedes, an Audi TT sports car and an Infiniti car with the money.

The court also heard how for seven years the convict looted the accounts of Haberdashers. He was said to be secretive, locking himself in his office to work late, “after arriving in a Mercedes, wearing £500 Gucci shoes and carrying a Louis Vuitton briefcase.”

Thacker said the father of four from Ilford, East London, was too arrogant to admit his guilt even after he was caught red-handed in 2012.

Kayode tried to blame the crime on his late wife and a junior colleague, saying that they conspired to tarnish his image by transferring the money to his account in revenge for his adultery.

His crime was exposed when a school cleaner stumbled across some of Kayode’s documents. The cleaner was said to make an anonymous call to the schools’ Chief Finance Officer, Yvonne Smithers.

The accounts manager started work at Haberdashers’ – which has links with the public schools of the same name – in 1997.

According to the prosecutor, Kayode started using the BACS money transfer system (a system in the UK for making payments directly from one bank account to another) in 2006, to put “tens of thousands at a time directly into a joint account held with wife Grace. He then spent up to £98,000 a month.”

Apart from spending money on his wife’s health care until her death in 2013, Kayode also signed documents showing he was making investments with Halima, and renting flats in Kent for ‘partners’ Toyin Lawal and Yetunde Turtak.

The National Economic Council on Thursday approved the new foreign exchange policy announced by the Central Bank of Nigeria.
Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State said this in Abuja while briefing State House correspondents on the outcome of the NEC meeting presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.
According to Emmanuel, the CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele, told the Council that the foreign exchange policy would be determined by total interplay of market forces based on demand and supply.
Emmanuel said: “Certainly, it is a welcome development. (There are) two areas that we needed to really take head long and one is this flexible foreign exchange policy.
“And to make it a little bit more flexible right now, I think it is a welcome development.
“That is the opinion of almost everybody today who knows the advantages of having a flexible exchange policy.
“It is going to help the economy, it is going to help ease of access.
“And if you also listen to the details of what he (the CBN Governor) gave, so that I don’t actually repeat what he has said, I am sure at the end of the day, head or tail, we should be better off for it.”
The governor also said the Council received a report on Excess Crude Account by the Finance Minister, Kemi Adeosun, indicating a balance of $2.261 billion as at June 15.
He said Adeosun also informed the Council that the full report on the forensic audit instituted on the revenue accruals into the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation and other revenue generating agencies would be given when it was ready.
He also said Adeosun briefed the Council on the budget support facility proposed by the Federal Government to assist the states at nine per cent interest rate.
According to him, as at today, five states have completed the process for borrowing from the budged support loan.
He however, said one state declined the loan, while disbursement would commence from the next Federal Account Allocation Committee meeting.
Emmanuel said the status report on the social intervention programmes to reduce poverty and equality in the country was given by the Presidential Aide on Social Investment, Dr. Mariam Uwais.
He said the report indicated that the basic education school feeding programme for Primary 1 to 3 would cost N70 per meal per day per pupil.
He said some states had been selected for the pilot scheme but all 36 states and FCT would benefit in the long run.
He also said that the Minister of Trade and Investment, Dr. Okechukwu Enalamah, gave a brief on the planned collaboration between the states and the Federal Government to achieve the ease of doing business index target.
Enalamah, who was at the briefing, explained that a presidential council was in place to coordinate the ministers on the bottlenecks facing business and how they could be removed to make Nigeria an attractive business destination.
He added that there was an ongoing reconciliation of accounts between the FG and the states to determine the monies due to the states, which had not been released to them before the release of the budget support loan. A sleeping woman woke in the night to discover her 14-year-old son was raping her, a court heard.

She initially thought she might be dreaming, but shouted and screamed on realising the "enormity of the situation", it is alleged.

Preston Crown Court also heard that the youngster, who has ADHD and is on medication, had been having behavioural problems and some years ago had been in the habit of climbing into bed with his mother.

The boy - from the Blackpool area, now aged 15, and who cannot be named for legal reasons - denies a charge of rape last year.

The court heard the woman had been out for a drink the night before the alleged attack and that, although she did not consume a lot of alcohol, it went to her head because she might have been drinking quickly.

Francis McEntee, prosecuting, told the court: "The allegation in this case is that the defendant raped his mother while she was asleep. The factual basis of this case is that he was in his mother's bed.

"The issue is not any assertion of consent, or belief of consent. It is the prosecution's assertion there was penetration and the defendant's denial of that allegation".

The prosecution said the woman had been asleep before waking and realising the "enormity of the situation, that her son was in the process of having sex with her".

The woman shouted and screamed and, soon after, was frantic, the court was told. Another family member asked her "Are you sure? Are you sure?" She responded by saying "I didn't dream it. I didn't dream it".

The court also heard that as a child, the boy used to get into his mother's bed, but that had stopped some years ago.

Mr McEntee added: "The defendant's account is that his bed was uncomfortable, there was damage to the bottom sheet, so he had gone in and lain in bed with his mother."

He also told the jury "you will hear his acknowledgement that his mother was naked, bar the brief underwear and you will hear his admission that she lay on her side and he was lying with his arm around her.

"The prosecution would invite you to say he was hoping to seek to try and provide an innocent explanation for his presence in the bed. Whether driven by drink or some other issue, perhaps because he had had drink, he climbed into bed with his mother".

In her video police interview played in court, the woman described herself as "trembling from the inside".

A 33-year-old commercial motorcyclist, Alfred Philip, was on Thursday charged in an Okitipupa Magistrates’ Court, Ondo State, for allegedly snatching a handbag containing N800,000 cash.

The Police Prosecutor, Insp. Zedekiah Orogbemi, told the court that the accused and two others now at large, conspired to commit felony and stealing, on July 26, around 1.30pm

38 year old Nigerian man, Olaoluwa Ibrahim was yesterday July 28th sentenced to jail by the Central Criminal Court in London for raping and stealing from a woman he attacked in Central London in June last year.

UK's metropolitan police say Ibrahim's victim was on her way back from an outing with her friends in Central London when he accosted her and raped her.

After leaving her friends, the victim got on a bus and decided to stop close to her house so she could take a short walk home. As she walked, Ibrahim approached her from behind and tried to engage her in conversation. She tried ignoring him by walking away but he grabbed her and pushed her into a driveway where he forced her to the floor and raped her, before stealing her phone and running from the scene. The victim was able to make her way home and subsequently contacted the police.

Officers were able to trace Ibrahim via extensive phone inquiries as he had made a number of calls to the victim’s new phone following the incident. When interrogated, he denied knowing the victim, saying his DNA will not be found on her as he had not had sex with anyone. DNA testing showed that his DNA matched the one found on the victim’s clothing. He then changed his story, claiming to have had consensual sex with the victim and denied stealing her phone.

The victim is now living in Australia and to save her the trauma of having to return to the UK for the trial, officers traveled there and provided specialist computer equipment which allowed her to give her evidence remotely via a live link to the court.

Ibrahim pleaded guilty to rape and theft. Delivering judgement, the presiding judge ruled that after serving his prison term, he will be deported back to Nigeria.

The President of Nigeria Union in South Africa, Ikechukwu Anyene, on Thursday, decried the killing of a Nigerian in Hillbrow, Johannesburg.



NAN recalls that the Nigerian, Nonso Odo, 30, from Amangwu-Nkwerre, Imo State, was allegedly tortured to death by South African Police officers on Thursday.



Mr Emeka Ezinteje, Public Relations Officer of the union, told NAN in Johannesburg that the union decried the incident after receiving the report.





Ezinteje said reports indicated that the deceased, who was a barber, quarreled with a fellow Nigerian in their business centre.



“After the quarrel, the fellow Nigerian stopped a police patrol team. The barber ran when he saw the patrol team.”



According to Ezinteje, the police patrol went after Odo; 30 minutes later, the police brought back the lifeless body of the barber.



“Not satisfied with the police report, some members of the union went to see the corpse in hospital.”



He said Sgt. Nengobeni, a South African police officer at the hospital, denied that the police killed him.



The officer said the police were flagged down by somebody while the victim took to his heels.



Nengobeni said by the time the police got to the victim, he was tired and gasping for breath and was pronounced dead on getting to the hospital.



Ezinteje said the union suspected foul play and would get to the root of the case.



“We have also received reports by eyewitnesses that Odo was beaten to death.



“We have ordered a post mortem to ascertain the cause of Odo’s death. The union will also take this case to the Independent Police Investigative Department, for more investigation.



“The department is responsible for investigating wrong doings by police officers,” he said.



He also said the incident had been reported to Nigeria`s Consulate General in Johannesburg and Hillbrow Police Station, also in Johannesburg.
