@OP there are very few instances where people are bold enough to report injustice in Nigeria. We want change but we don't want to change. They repercussion could affect you as well and that is not your fault, it's our Yeye system. Just turn a blind eye and study to earn your grades. When the time comes when you have the power to do something to change our situation, remember to ALSO talk and do. We need people like you. Good luck with your exam |

Doubleagent008:Thanks for taking time to respond. Gender Favoritism is actually prevalent because we have been relegated to the background for years and unless certain policies are set to make more and more women have the right tools to speak for themselves or be independent, it will take longer for the equality to be achieved. Social trend is the same reason I have both faith in/fear for Nigeria, seeing that we are lovers of trends. Soon we will copy but if our leaders are forward thinkers these adjustments don't have to blatantly copy the west because let's face it, theirs is the pop culture we see every day. Customary privileges I would love to see us get rid off is "Don't hit a woman, even if she hits you". People should learn to keep their hands to themselves and use their words instead. No system is all perfect in all instances. Our present situation is far from perfect and we are all not dead...yet. What stops us from accepting a relatively better ideal that promotes better values. |

kevinberry: So basically, make the lives of just men EASIER with the law. I think a lot of men get married on credit...impregnable the girl and watch her family reduce the "price". You don't need law for that. The law is a FORMAL step to make every doubting Thomas know that in FACT women are worth as much as men are. SIMPLE. The laws will make traditions that still oppress women die out eventually after a few lawsuits. Homosexuality is a different thing all together. |

edoziebobbyyahoocom: It's the MEN and WOMEN alike...society in general. Most girls can relate to hearing their mother correct them by saying " Is that what you will do in your husband's house" or " No one will marry a woman who does not know 'her place'" like the end result of our ENTIRETY is to please some random man who happens to also be our husbands. Little things like this are reasons ladies think that way. We are a product of our environment....remember that. 2 Likes |

Logicbwoy: An oppressed woman will lash out and an oppressed man will too. I am not making moral judgment or saying any is more evil than the other. If anything, I'm saying give both freedom to be evil as well a good. I am not a misandrist... I'm not saying "Men are evil", I'm saying "Women deserve more". |

deebrain:I like how you say "whores", I was actually referring to a different band of women who aim lead a different lifestyle. We will learn to TEACH our ladies to be better. That being successful is not bagging an "importer exporter" husband or having Brazilian hair. It's a process. |

tosyne2much: Men know what they are doing and we are still a mess? Anyway, being disrespectful is not a right, it is a character flaw of am INDIVIDUAL not the entire women in a country. The bill that FORMALLY allows women to own property, be equal in the eyes of the LAW is actually very necessary. It is by no means being equal in the sight of God because that has been made clear that we are anything but equal as per religion. |

KingSango: Well put. I couldn't have said it better. I remember reading about our land ownership system, where it is not uncommon to find a man with a piece of land some whether developed or not thus making land a shared asset for the majority compared to the western world where ownership is for select few, and how proud I felt about our traditional policies that would work better, in my opinion if it was more refined into to complex civilized system that works for US. |

Oildichotomy: We are good enough and you know it. I do appreciate the men, like you, who do not outrightly dismiss something they can't relate to. It takes time to change an ideology that has stood for centuries and has ground in conservative regulations, laws in every social institution ever known. These ideologies that favor men are in family setting, religion, politics even education and career paths. It's a struggle so give it time. |

Oildichotomy: It's a step towards an ideal society at least one with human rights as a priority and a working system of government. We are working. I appreciate men who don't dismiss the idea but like you try to see thing from our perspective. It is a lifelong belief we are fighting...literally every institution has roots in policies or regulations that favor men historically so give us time. I know it will be worth it. |

Terry68:Many "important" issues to trash like what? Women are favored with jobs?? In case you haven't noticed, any job that required actual TECHNICAL skills or CRITICAL thinking are supposedly left for the men while women become Make up artist, beauty pageant contestants, secretary and the likes. I do not consider those favorable. In case you missed it, an assumption I made was a thriving economy! You are not a woman so I do not expect you to easily empathize with what they have to suffer when they have to BEG or ASK someone else for almost every thing. You can dismiss expression for all I care but I believe a lot of men do not reason like you do. I just read a post about a man who fancies dominant women and because we are thought to be docile and know "our place" a lot of people including men suppress such expressions. Yes, sexual orientation and preferences are ways we express ourselves. As for no. 6, there are infact women who would gladly do those jobs if it puts food on their table without it causing a stigma that will cause the prospective husbands to flee. At least that's what we are made to believe. 5 Likes 2 Shares |

ayotrey:One of the many reasons to support gender equality. Women are afraid to be shamed for "acting out of line" and men are afraid of being "the odd one out". Good luck with your search. You could try making it a comfortable experience for a woman through persuasion and not being weird about it. |
Culture / 6 Reasons Gender Equality is beneficial To Nigerian MEN And Society At Large by DivaFiva: 2:11am On Apr 07, 2016 |
I'm about to attempt to persuade our men to subscribe to the feminist ideology. Sorry it's kinda lengthy Assumptions: An already thriving economy 1. Reduced Malnutrition and Child-Hunger: When more mothers become salary earners, it is no surprise that kids tend to eat better. As a man, seeing your kids healthy and agile, especially when it causes less strain to your pocket should be a welcomed relief. You were once a kid, think of all the things your mother bought in periods she had more than enough. Unless your mum was deadbeat or abusive, the gain was shared by her and her kids and usually the gain was better food or cooking equipment. 2. More Productivity: The idea that "women are worth less" begins from childhood but it begins to resonate with us as teenager( which by the way is one of the worst periods we face due to hormonal changes and insecurities attached) and as young adults we already believe that so, we act accordingly. In secondary school, a lot of us can attest to the fact that more often than not that more girls were top of the class. In the university however, we lose trail. If women are taught to be more confident in their abilities, we create a more productive economy. 3. Shared responsibility: Believe it or not a lot of Nigerian women are not comfortable asking their significant order for money EVERY little thing. Some of you guys actually love and crave being the SOLE provider because of the power and control ( it gives) over someone else's life especially when they get a good enough pay. With equality, abusive partners lose that power as well...The power that keeps the woman silent in pain. Slowly but surely, men may never have to pay for wives because it sorta cheapens our worth especially when men literally take bride-prices to mean ownership. 4. Freedom of Expression: Some men would love to be as you are... Wear whatever (pink jeans), talk however (loud talkers who smack their lips) even in adult hood without being looked down on or referred to as a "woman" as though it is derogatory. Some men are natural CAREGIVERS who would be satisfied being a nurse, a cook or a stay-at-home parent but society would not let them be great. When women are equal, gender lines are blurred a bit and people are more likely to come around to accepting you for who you are. 5. Your daughters: As at now, it may be convenient for you to say "Men are superior" until your daughter pick up the equality struggle from where older women (and men alike) left off. It's time we make progress with this and that's if we want to eventually be a highly functional society that makes the best out of majority of her citizens both men and women. 6. End of Hypermasculinity: Most men would rather just be masculine rather than going through the trouble of proving that they are "MEN" over and over again. I know it can be exhaustive, trying to hold back tears when what you really feel like it is to cry and feel better afterwards. I know it is harder for some men to ask for help because of the EGO and hyper-masculinity urges. Some of our men would grow up thinking it is manly to frown and play less so your kids can respect you. Yeah..(:|) try FEAR! When they grow old, they tend to resent he father more often for the scars he caused them. When I heard about the gender equality bill that was declined, my heart sunk but I needed to get the word across so we can know. Oya add your two cents...or even add to the list. 15 Likes 5 Shares |

erico2k2:True. And that's a shame. First, the money borrowed helps put money in the system that the "average" would eventually get through selling stuff or would expand the rich businesses thus giving the "average" man job. So it is not as good or irrelevant to Us as average people as you think. |
Crime / Opinion: Abortion Should Be Legalized! by DivaFiva: 9:47pm On Mar 31, 2016 |
I remember seeing the word "pregnant" and immediately feeling like the ground I stood on was legit crumbling. In an attempt to figure out who to break the "you are about to be a father" news to, I made my analysis and was down to two names. None of whom was my boyfriend. I had decided I'd only tell my family and close friends if I decide to keep it. As weeks ran into months, as expected, my anxiety grew out of control and morning sickness was my new routine inconvenience. I hated me for making a careless mistake and having a poor child (and possibly my existence)pay for it, if I did get an abortion done by a quack. Keeping the baby was not even a possibility so I thought maybe I could skip town for a few months, have the baby and put her up for adoption. A lot of babies are already in dire need of love and guidance even those with parents and I was not about to commit the life of a child into a system that doesn't work. So that wouldn't help. If only there was a way to reduce the casualties. If only I had a choice to see a qualified doctor. Maybe, just maybe I would not have lost my womb. If only abortion was an a legal option. I may have a place in hell for my ideology but that's HIS choice to make. |

valdovas: Theoretically, this would increase the market interest rate of money deposited or invested. While, this is good for lenders, it is bad news for borrowers. |
