Exactly my point, so you think genders must be equal cos we all got balls but you forgot we don't use balls but brains and y'all got fish brains.

Go through all my posts here, it's all an advice, take it.

Fish brains? I'd like to know one thing you think a man can do that a woman can't.
I do have a man thank you very much.

@OP there are very few instances where people are bold enough to report injustice in Nigeria.
We want change but we don't want to change. They repercussion could affect you as well and that is not your fault, it's our Yeye system.
Just turn a blind eye and study to earn your grades. When the time comes when you have the power to do something to change our situation, remember to ALSO talk and do.
We need people like you.

Doubleagent008:
Nice one OP. you have made some good points. I don't totally agree with some of the things you have written. Gender Equality has a lot of aspects that people muddle up together. it's got A social, Political, Economic, judiciary aspects among others. Getting the bill passed or voted is going to take long to come.
as for how it affects us, People seem to mistake Gender Equality for "Gender Favoritism " I have an instance for you, You must have at one point in time seen in the News that some women groups asking that women should make up 40-50% of government cabinet in the name of Gender Equality. that is not Equality that is like Favoritism because for women to make up 50% of the cabinet, that will mean some men who should be there will be overlooked because a "woman" must be there. Rather our equality should target removing limitations to the woman folks so that it makes them be at the same playing level in competition but not that you start giving the female folks quota as a right (equality would mean fairness to everybody) .
So in true equality one would expect women to also be in troops travelling for peace keeping mission in troubled Zones ( can the government afford that?). have you considered the Economic implications how many working hours are lost to Maternity leave e.t.c? the more the women the more the man hours lost.
And even a true equality would also remove the social ' customary' privileges that are attached to the female gender e.g Being a gentleman is unarguably expected of a guy be it convenient or not. Among some other things
that your point 4 is cool but the example is not really a perfect one case in point ; the matter of gender colour assignment is more of a social trend than any other thing and can change at any time and everyone will still get on board. I have at one point read that in the mid 20th century, Blue was seen as a feminine colour and Pink a male colour but the reverse is the case today and no one is really worried. Gender Equality really won't affect a case of social trend.
I'm all for respect of women but this Gender Equality movement still has a long way from being perfect. Even western Nations haven't made equality in all aspects and more questions keep rising by the day.
In all I appreciate the write up
Thanks for taking time to respond.
Gender Favoritism is actually prevalent because we have been relegated to the background for years and unless certain policies are set to make more and more women have the right tools to speak for themselves or be independent, it will take longer for the equality to be achieved.
Social trend is the same reason I have both faith in/fear for Nigeria, seeing that we are lovers of trends. Soon we will copy but if our leaders are forward thinkers these adjustments don't have to blatantly copy the west because let's face it, theirs is the pop culture we see every day.
Customary privileges I would love to see us get rid off is "Don't hit a woman, even if she hits you". People should learn to keep their hands to themselves and use their words instead.
No system is all perfect in all instances. Our present situation is far from perfect and we are all not dead...yet. What stops us from accepting a relatively better ideal that promotes better values.

right now the only thing I would support is that government should ban bride price, make verbal abuse a crime, after these two injustice towards men have been tackled,we can then start pondering on the points you raise....left to me,one don't need any law to become a career woman or whatever you are driving about, the general human right have already cover everybody,if the senate decide to pass this bill then they will also have to review and dismiss the homosexuality bill which was sign base on religion and moral reasons

So basically, make the lives of just men EASIER with the law.
I think a lot of men get married on credit...impregnable the girl and watch her family reduce the "price". You don't need law for that.
The law is a FORMAL step to make every doubting Thomas know that in FACT women are worth as much as men are.
SIMPLE.
The laws will make traditions that still oppress women die out eventually after a few lawsuits. Homosexuality is a different thing all together.

I know some foolish men who can rightly be termed counterfeit men have already bought this gender equality thingy. To those men I say, don't be too gullible.
It's counterfeit men in the U.S. that allowed women to topple them rightwise. Now if there's a set of persons that don't hav rights in the U.S., it's the straight male folk. What caused it? The feminity struggle. Gays, women , kids, etc have more rights. They were struggling for equality , got it , kept struggling and now they have more rights . Now the Nigerian females want to do same to us. It won't work.

Quit being on the defensive...no body is dragging your so called rights with you.
We just want ours.
Change is inevitable. I may not be able to witness it but best believe I know I stood for something on the right side of history (in the making) and it is all that matters.

1. Now whose fault is it that they feel that doing such jobs will lead to stigmatization?
2. Both Genders will never be regarded as equals, don't get me wrong i'm not saying any gender is superior to the other what i'm saying is that we were built differently and made for specific purposes.
3. Due to the fragility of the female sex they are not expected to engage in rigorous jobs such as masonry while the males are not very compassionate in nature to take on delicate task as home management.
In conclusion, both sexes can't be regarded as equals but to a great extent can be treated as equals in the face of the society, disregarding certain societal norms.

It's the MEN and WOMEN alike...society in general.
Most girls can relate to hearing their mother correct them by saying " Is that what you will do in your husband's house" or " No one will marry a woman who does not know 'her place'" like the end result of our ENTIRETY is to please some random man who happens to also be our husbands.
Little things like this are reasons ladies think that way. We are a product of our environment....remember that.

Both men and women can be equally evil. We see more from men because men are in power. Give women an equal chance and we would see that women are equally as good or evil.

There are so many advantages of this. Men really do need help, as long as you don't want to be the husband of the house.

However, it is the women that need to talk to themselves.

While some of you want to take responsibility, 80% of you want to "use your body to get what you want"-your own undoing!!

Let women strive to put emphasis on their brain qualities off the bed and there will be no debate on this equality stuff. It will come naturally.

Society does enjoy whores, but cannot risk giving them a recognized status.

Selah
I like how you say "whores", I was actually referring to a different band of women who aim lead a different lifestyle.

What do you women still want again after several laws have been made to protect women from the challenges and oppression?. However, several laws have been made in favour of women to enable them enjoy certain right and privileges in the contract of service which men don't get to enjoy.

OP, you said women are only allowed to play minor role in politics and this got me wondering whether your know what you are saying at all.. If I may get you right, are you trying to say that women should be given the chance to hold top political positions even if they don't merit it on the ground of gender equality? My dear you need to have a rethink.

All these gender bullshiit will add nothing to the growth of the economy but give women audacity to question men making them look like they don't know what they have been doing from the ages past. Gender equality which is aimed at giving women equal right, will turn to something else which may even make women rub shoulder with their husbands and be disrespectful

Conclusively, I believe need more laws that will protect them from oppression, dangers and harm not this gender wahala

Men know what they are doing and we are still a mess?
Anyway, being disrespectful is not a right, it is a character flaw of am INDIVIDUAL not the entire women in a country.
The bill that FORMALLY allows women to own property, be equal in the eyes of the LAW is actually very necessary. It is by no means being equal in the sight of God because that has been made clear that we are anything but equal as per religion.

Some of your points are very valid and would be a great change. The rise of women is crucial to Africa overcoming White Supremacy and Racism. Its not so much we have to order Whites but we need to order the Africa world. The queen mother system needs to return. It amazes me that Africans are in a state of renaissance, or cultural restoration, but neglect to resurrect the queen mother institution which was very crucial in building up strong communities. However, the Yoruba people have a very balanced culture, women play complementary roles to men. I love the fact that queens are respected just as much as kings. Queen Oya, Oshun and Oba were all deified like Sango. More Yorubas need to make the sacrifice to restore the traditions. Take the young Queen of Oyo for example, she's very young and she married the Alaafin and he's older. The Ayaba is making a sacrifice for culture and she as guaranteed her offspring will lead a more secure life as the royal blood will flow through them. This young queen has boosted yourself out of poverty and into the realms of power. I admire her as all she admire this young queen for making the sacrifice for traditions. Not just the old people should make the sacrifice but the youth should as well. Because I've studied, the traditions of Africa didn't fail Africans, but Africans failed to follow the traditions. Somehow we've got into the idea that others traditions or customs are better than our own. That is low self esteem.

Love, Sango.

Well put. I couldn't have said it better.

I remember reading about our land ownership system, where it is not uncommon to find a man with a piece of land some whether developed or not thus making land a shared asset for the majority compared to the western world where ownership is for select few, and how proud I felt about our traditional policies that would work better, in my opinion if it was more refined into to complex civilized system that works for US.

My problem with this gender imbroglio is on the one hand , just somehow, we will succeed in eroding a very essential part of our natural existence as humans putting into cognisance the dual responsibilities of both sexes

I'm just a humanist in this context. You don't appeal to "men" to gain gender balance, women will have to work at it to gain the balance.

I think the clarion call should be to fellow feminazi feminist women to buckle up and give in their 100% in every life endeavour they find themselves.

We love our women enough, they should just prove themselves already

We are good enough and you know it.
I do appreciate the men, like you, who do not outrightly dismiss something they can't relate to.

It takes time to change an ideology that has stood for centuries and has ground in conservative regulations, laws in every social institution ever known. These ideologies that favor men are in family setting, religion, politics even education and career paths.
It's a struggle so give it time.

Bad choice of words but we need outside businesses to grow domestic ones. What is the gain in losing most investment and scaring investors due to losses and opaque policies of "wait and see". The intention is good but the regulations are too stringent and will definitely cost us.

According to your post.

1. In todays Nigeria, women are increasely favoured with juicy jobs opportunity than their male counterpart. Take a review.

2. I might agree with this point but not suitable for the Nigeria state. Since women became more relevant to economic contributions, male opportunist who were favoured into the labour market became more desperate and corruption heighten to beat the pace between the ladies in same shoes.
Your number two does not hold water for a Nigeria state.

3.shared responsibility is already going on in some families, but cannot be force on people since many Nigerians still believe in their cultural heritage. Many traditions will never allow a female seek hand of marriage or pay 'groom price'. sounds odd.

4. This one is pointless

5. Pointless

6. Majority of women that studied electrical, mechanical, building or any of its ilk would want to practice it. Will they like to be crane operator, vulcanizer, shoe maker or iron bender on a voluntary scale?

OP, Nigerians are not just ready for this gender distractions. We have many important issues to thrash not this.
Many "important" issues to trash like what?
Women are favored with jobs?? In case you haven't noticed, any job that required actual TECHNICAL skills or CRITICAL thinking are supposedly left for the men while women become Make up artist, beauty pageant contestants, secretary and the likes. I do not consider those favorable.

In case you missed it, an assumption I made was a thriving economy!

You are not a woman so I do not expect you to easily empathize with what they have to suffer when they have to BEG or ASK someone else for almost every thing.

You can dismiss expression for all I care but I believe a lot of men do not reason like you do. I just read a post about a man who fancies dominant women and because we are thought to be docile and know "our place" a lot of people including men suppress such expressions. Yes, sexual orientation and preferences are ways we express ourselves.

As for no. 6, there are infact women who would gladly do those jobs if it puts food on their table without it causing a stigma that will cause the prospective husbands to flee. At least that's what we are made to believe.

One of the many reasons to support gender equality.
Women are afraid to be shamed for "acting out of line" and men are afraid of being "the odd one out".
Good luck with your search.
You could try making it a comfortable experience for a woman through persuasion and not being weird about it.
Culture / 6 Reasons Gender Equality is beneficial To Nigerian MEN And Society At Large by DivaFiva: 2:11am On Apr 07, 2016
I'm about to attempt to persuade our men to subscribe to the feminist ideology. Sorry it's kinda lengthy

Assumptions: An already thriving economy

1. Reduced Malnutrition and Child-Hunger: When more mothers become salary earners, it is no surprise that kids tend to eat better. As a man, seeing your kids healthy and agile, especially when it causes less strain to your pocket should be a welcomed relief. You were once a kid, think of all the things your mother bought in periods she had more than enough. Unless your mum was deadbeat or abusive, the gain was shared by her and her kids and usually the gain was better food or cooking equipment.

2. More Productivity: The idea that "women are worth less" begins from childhood but it begins to resonate with us as teenager( which by the way is one of the worst periods we face due to hormonal changes and insecurities attached) and as young adults we already believe that so, we act accordingly. In secondary school, a lot of us can attest to the fact that more often than not that more girls were top of the class. In the university however, we lose trail. If women are taught to be more confident in their abilities, we create a more productive economy.

3. Shared responsibility: Believe it or not a lot of Nigerian women are not comfortable asking their significant order for money EVERY little thing. Some of you guys actually love and crave being the SOLE provider because of the power and control ( it gives) over someone else's life especially when they get a good enough pay. With equality, abusive partners lose that power as well...The power that keeps the woman silent in pain. Slowly but surely, men may never have to pay for wives because it sorta cheapens our worth especially when men literally take bride-prices to mean ownership.

4. Freedom of Expression: Some men would love to be as you are... Wear whatever (pink jeans), talk however (loud talkers who smack their lips) even in adult hood without being looked down on or referred to as a "woman" as though it is derogatory. Some men are natural CAREGIVERS who would be satisfied being a nurse, a cook or a stay-at-home parent but society would not let them be great. When women are equal, gender lines are blurred a bit and people are more likely to come around to accepting you for who you are.

5. Your daughters: As at now, it may be convenient for you to say "Men are superior" until your daughter pick up the equality struggle from where older women (and men alike) left off. It's time we make progress with this and that's if we want to eventually be a highly functional society that makes the best out of majority of her citizens both men and women.

6. End of Hypermasculinity: Most men would rather just be masculine rather than going through the trouble of proving that they are "MEN" over and over again. I know it can be exhaustive, trying to hold back tears when what you really feel like it is to cry and feel better afterwards. I know it is harder for some men to ask for help because of the EGO and hyper-masculinity urges. Some of our men would grow up thinking it is manly to frown and play less so your kids can respect you. Yeah..(:|) try FEAR! When they grow old, they tend to resent he father more often for the scars he caused them.

When I heard about the gender equality bill that was declined, my heart sunk but I needed to get the word across so we can know.

Oya add your two cents...or even add to the list.

I remember seeing the word "pregnant" and immediately feeling like the ground I stood on was legit crumbling.

In an attempt to figure out who to break the "you are about to be a father" news to, I made my analysis and was down to two names. None of whom was my boyfriend.
I had decided I'd only tell my family and close friends if I decide to keep it. As weeks ran into months, as expected, my anxiety grew out of control and morning sickness was my new routine inconvenience.

I hated me for making a careless mistake and having a poor child (and possibly my existence)pay for it, if I did get an abortion done by a quack.

Keeping the baby was not even a possibility so I thought maybe I could skip town for a few months, have the baby and put her up for adoption. A lot of babies are already in dire need of love and guidance even those with parents and I was not about to commit the life of a child into a system that doesn't work. So that wouldn't help.

If only there was a way to reduce the casualties.
If only I had a choice to see a qualified doctor. Maybe, just maybe I would not have lost my womb.
If only abortion was an a legal option.

I may have a place in hell for my ideology but that's HIS choice to make.

How is this going to affect the interest of customers' money in the bank?

Is it going tn reduce the interest of money deposited in savings and current account?

Theoretically, this would increase the market interest rate of money deposited or invested.
While, this is good for lenders, it is bad news for borrowers.
