What does this statement mean, "We are aggrieved but we remain in APC".

In my opinion, Amaechi and other APC aspirants are not totally committed to Tinubu’s candidature.

Politics / Presidential Primary Fallout: We’re Aggrieved But Will Remain In APC – Amaechi, by divinehand2003(m): 7:08am On Sep 12, 2022
Despite feeling aggrieved and withdrawn from party activities in recent times, former ministers who resigned to contest the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential ticket, yesterday, said they will remain in the party.

Top aides of the former ministers, namely Chibuike Amaechi (Transportation); Dr Ogbonnaya Onu (Science and Technology), and Emeka Nwajiuba (minister of state for Education), who admitted that their principals are not pleased with the way they were treated by the APC, however, said they will not dump the party.

Checks by LEADERSHIP revealed that the ministers have withdrawn from active party activities since they lost out in the party’s presidential primaries on June 8 this year.

In the APC presidential primary, former Lagos State governor Bola Tinubu polled 1,271 votes to clinch the party’s presidential ticket at the special national convention, which had 23 aspirants. Nine aspirants withdrew from the contest before the commencement of the primary election. Besides the ministers who resigned to contest the primaries, Vice President Prof Yemi Osinbajo, some governors and party chieftains contested the party’s presidential ticket.

However, checks by LEADERSHIP reveal that after the primaries, most of the ministers have been largely politically inactive in party activities.

While most of them have since not openly associated with the party’s candidate, former minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi, had in July said some delegates, who voted at the special convention of the APC, were regretting their decisions after being induced with money at the convention.

It was also learnt that Amaechi was displeased with the budding romance between Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike and APC chieftains, including governors of Ekiti, Ondo and Lagos, and the.

LEADERSHIP gathered that those visits were done without Amaechi’s consent. While Onu had openly upbraided the party for not zoning its presidential ticket to the South East during the convention, Nwajiuba, who stayed away from the convention in protest, subsequently filed a suit at the federal high court seeking the disqualification of Tinubu and the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, from the 2023 election.

However, their associates and supporters yesterday denied that the principals had been distant from the party even though they admitted that they are aggrieved.

They insisted they won’t dump the APC, noting that they are still party active party members.

Only PMB Can Say If Amaechi Was Fairly Treated – Aide

APC chieftain and close associate of Amaechi, Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, said the question of whether former minister of Transportation was fairly treated by the party will be answered after the end of the tenure of President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023.

Eze disclosed this while speaking with LEADERSHIP in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

He said, “It depends on who is answering this question. One thing most of us don’t understand is that the APC government, or party of which Amaechi is a key actor or contributor is or are still running until May, 2023. It is then one will be in a better position to answer this type of question creditably.

“Yes, it is true that if not for the inputs, sacrifices and risks that Amaechi took over the project APC, there would not have been the APC as it is today. Yes, it is also true that Amaechi midwifed the election and reelection of General Muhammadu Buhari as the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as the director general of the APC Presidential Campaign Organisation on two occasions, thereby becoming the first African or in the entire world to achieve such a feat.

“Yes, it is also true that the APC government accorded or assigned a lucrative Ministry of Transportation to Amaechi in which he established himself as one of our best brains and leader in Nigeria.

“It is also true that out of over 20 political leaders that contested the APC presidential election, Amaechi came second, beating a sitting vice president and a sitting Senate president and others showing his influence and acceptability within the ranks and members of the party.

“It is also true that Amaechi was one of those that was asked to resign before contesting the presidential slot of the party and was not reappointed based on the thinking of Mr. President, and only him alone and some of the leaders that can answer if Amaechi was fairly treated or not.

“To me, for us to truly assess or answer if Amaechi is fairly treated can only be answered at the end of this administration because I am still feeling that Amaechi has not been abandoned or forgotten by this administration; only time will tell.”

Acting publicity secretary of the APC in Rivers State, Darlington Nwauju, said Amaechi was still a member and leader of the party in the state.

Speaking with LEADERSHIP in Port Harcourt yesterday, Nwauju stated that Amaechi, who is also a former Rivers State governor, has been holding meetings with stakeholders to strategise for the APC in the 2023 general election.

He said: “The rumour about Amaechi defecting is a complete ruse. It is another stunt by enemies of the APC to distract our party by blackmailing the former transportation minister.

“He is undeniably one of the pillars of the party in Nigeria whose stellar outing as a cabinet minister will remain a point of reference for many years to come.

“The former governor has been meeting with different strata of the party’s stakeholders in Rivers State to strategize on helping the APC win next year’s election at all levels,” he said.

Findings by LEADERSHIP revealed that Amaechi was still actively involved in the activities of the APC in Rivers State.

Although, it took Amaechi almost two months after the APC presidential primaries, which he lost to Senator Ahmed Bola Tinubu, before he visited Rivers State, he has spent two weekends in the state in the past one month.

LEADERSHIP observed that during his visit to the state in August, the former Rivers State governor addressed APC stakeholders at the party secretariat along Woji Road in Port Harcourt.

The former minister was also in the state over the weekend for the funeral ceremonies of former four-time Minister of the federation, Alabo Tonye Graham-Douglas, in Port Harcourt, and at the deceased’s hometown, Abonnema in Akuku-Toru local government area of the state.

Speaking during the funeral service at Abonnema, Amaechi, who expressed worry at the abandonment of Graham-Douglas by the Rivers State government, said he expected the state government to show concern when the former minister became ill.

He said, “Alabo played a very important role in making Chief Rufus Ada -George governor of Rivers State. I didn’t know him. I met him after Rufus was made a governor. We escorted Rufus to this village. That was my first time in Abonnema.

“We came to see Alabo to thank him for the role he played in assisting Chief Rufus Ada-George to become governor of Rivers State. I came to know him later in the course of my political career.

“I know he was a very good man. I know Alabo is somebody you need to be proud of. I can say arguably that he was one of the best dressed Rivers men.

“When I became the governor of Rivers State, the very few places I visited was Alabo’s house and we took time to discuss the state. We agreed that let the past be the past and let us chart a new course. Alabo and I spoke for weeks on how to move the state forward.

“Indeed, when he fell ill, we expected that the state will take responsibility of everything concerning Alabo. You don’t need to be a governor for the state to recognise your contributions.

“If you know me well, I don’t like travelling during the rainy season due to bad roads, but I have no choice but to come to pay him the respect that he deserves.”

In a related development, a political associate of the former minister of Science and Technology, Alhaji Haruna Ajah, yesterday said that the former minister is still a member of APC in the state.

He however added that Onu’s camp has misgivings against the national leadership of the APC.

Speaking with LEADERSHIP in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital, Alhaji Ajah said that as a leader of the party, Dr. Onu shortly after the presidential primaries in Abuja met with APC faithful both at his country home in Uburu in Ohaozara local government area and in Abakaliki, the state capital.

Ajah said the meeting held in April was held to assess the successes and other lapses recorded during the just concluded presidential and state primaries.

He noted that despite the misgivings by his political associates against the national leadership of the party, “we are still committed to the success of the party.

“I want to inform you authoritatively that our leader, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, is still in APC and does not have any intention of leaving the party. We met with him both at his country home in Uburu and Abakaliki after the presidential primaries. He has been very visible in the activities of the party in the zone and we will do everything to work for the success of the party.

“We meet to review the activities of the party and to discuss on the way forward. Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu is not quitting active politics yet because he still has a lot to contribute to our politics.

“We, his associates, have our misgivings against the party and I am sure he knows about our misgivings, but our major problem is that the national leadership of the parties has refused to do anything about it. But despite the attitude of the party, we will not abandon the party we formed for people who just joined.”

He stated that the group was organizing a one-million march for APC and Tinubu in the South East, adding that the former Minister, his political associates, his loyalists and other party faithful would be part of the march.

‘Nwajiuba Working With Uzodimma To Rebrand Party In Imo’

In the case of Nwajiuba, an APC stalwart and close associate of the former minister of state for Education, Hon. Chukwudi Odu, said Nwajiuba had no intention of leaving the party.

According to him, the former minister is working in close collaboration with the Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, with the intention to capture Southeast for the party.

According to him, since he left office as a minister, Nwajiuba has been participating in political activities in the state and is highly respected as an APC stalwart and confidant of the governor.

“Nwajiuba, when in office, visits the state intermittently, however, the scenario has changed as the former minister is always in the state attending political meetings. ”

He cited the just concluded stakeholders meeting held in the state and submitted that Nwajiuba participated actively and made useful contributions.

“Hon. Nwajiuba was in the state over the weekend attending the All Progressives Congress (APC), stakeholders conference.”

According to him, Nwajiuba is a serious party man and has no intention to dump the party. According to him, over the weekend, they deliberated on a way forward and strategy on how to emerge victorious in the 2023 presidential election.

Hon. Odu explained that the former minister is a consistent and reliable party man and assured that since after the presidential primary, the Ehime Mbano born politician is collaborating with the Imo State governor, Hope Uzodimma, so as to deliver APC candidates come 2023.

Akpabio Out Of The Country, Says Aide

Speaking with LEADERSHIP yesterday, Mr. Jackson Udom, the Chief Press Secretary (CPS) the immediate past Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Chief Godswill Akpabio, as mere speculation that he has been out of public glare.

“Senator Godswill Akpabio is very busy, and had been out of the country in the last three weeks.

“Before he travelled, he had attended the unveiling of the APC presidential running mate, Kashim Shettima. He also attended the wedding of Shettima’s daughter, so the notion that he has not been visible is all wrong”, he explained.

Politics / 12m New Voters Insignificant To Alter 2023 Election Outcome – Fashola by divinehand2003(m): 7:45am On Sep 10, 2022
Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola has called on politicians vying for office in the 2023 general elections as well as citizens of the country not to “disrobe” the challenges of Nigeria in the global market square.

Fashola who was the keynote speaker at The Niche Annual Lecture in Lagos yesterday noted that the number of new 12 million voters registered will not be enough to sway the outcome of the elections next year.

He said the number of newly registered voters in 2022 is way less than the number of voters who registered newly in 2019.

This is as the former member of the House of Representatives, Dakuku Peterside, lamented the current economic downturn in the country, saying over 90 million Nigerians now live below poverty line.

According to Fashola, over 14 million newly registered voters had been recorded prior to the 2019 elections compared to the 12 million documented from this year.

“If you look at the number of people who have newly registered to vote in this election, the last number given by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is 12,332,336 people. Those are the new voters registered for this election cycle. Whereas in 2019, there were 14,360,053 newly registered voters. While in 2015 there were 6,944,752 newly registered voters.

“So, if the hype about 2023 is anything to go by, the number of 12.332 million newly registered voters does not support it. This is because there are 2,027,657 voters less than the 14 million new voters who registered in 2019.

“We have seen all this hype before and it distracts from the real question which should be: how can democracy, especially the elections coming in 2023 make our lives better and make our country greater. Those, for me, are what we should focus on, not about whether there will be or there will not be an election. We should focus on these questions because democracy is simply concerned about popular participation in choosing a leader or set of leaders.”

He also cautioned against washing the dirty linens of the country in the global scene saying “we can win elections without exaggerating our problems. We can do so by offering credible service and well thought out solutions.”

Fashola averred that the current situation of the country “should challenge a level of sobriety in us not excitement. A serious reflection that says this is where we have reached? My advice is that we can win elections without disrobing our country before the global community. Elections and democracy for us must represent a feast of ideas and choices that bring out the best in us and the best in our country.”

On his part, former member of the House of Representatives, Dakuku Peterside, who also spoke at the event noted that the 2023 election is peculiar as “there will be the burden of governance and this time it will be very challenging after the elections.

The former director general of Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) added that, ‘’The reason is that managing the expectation of Nigerian people is not going to be a walk in the park. One is that we face monumental insecurity, and it is very easy to lay blame on everyone other than ourselves. Two is the fact that apart from insecurity, the young people, the talents we expect to step back and build the country, are leaving in droves to other countries, against the backdrop of the ASUU strike. And we are not replacing them.

‘So, if the youth who are supposed to build the country, if they all leave the country, who will build the country. Who are we leaving the country for? Is it the old men and women who don’t have the energy to rebuild the country?”

He also lamented the state of the country’s economy saying “another thing is the challenge of the economy. I don’t think that we have had a time in our recent past where we have over 90 million of our citizens living below the poverty line.

“Debt to revenue ratio is 120 per cent. What it means is that we don’t earn enough to even service debt. The import of that is that we are going to face very stormy days ahead. Unfortunately, the truth is that the rhetoric of politicians is widening our ethnic, religious fault lines, instead of focusing on the challenges confronting us.’’

Politics / Re: FG Detects 54,000 Fraudulent Payroll Entries In IPPIS by divinehand2003(m): 7:32am On Sep 10, 2022
I strongly believe that this is just about one-tenth the total fraudulent payroll entries. I also believe that some staff of the Federal Government receive up to 5 salaries using phony names and accounts that lead to same person in the end.

Politics / FG Detects 54,000 Fraudulent Payroll Entries In IPPIS by divinehand2003(m): 7:29am On Sep 10, 2022
The National Security Adviser (NSA), Maj. Gen. Babagana Monguno (rtd) yesterday said the federal government had uncovered about 54,000 fraudulent payroll entries in its Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS) as a result of whistle-blowing.

He disclosed this at the National Policy Dialogue on Corruption and Security organised by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) yesterday in Abuja.

Monguno, who attributed the discovery to the expansion of the coverage of IPPIS against stiff opposition from some quarters, also linked the deployment of the Bank Verification Number (BVN) to validate the government’s stance on the payment platform to the detection, saying the implementation of the Treasury Single Account (TSA) in more than 90 per cent of all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) of the government had resulted in the consolidation of more than 70,000 bank accounts previously spread across deposit money banks in the country, leading to the monthly saving of about N4 billion in bank charges.

Monguno said corruption had hindered government’s ability to offer better life for its citizens and this has affected the country negatively.

At the event convened to discuss the current security challenges and how corruption is fueling the problems in the country, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and other anti-corruption stakeholders called for the review of public procurement policies to reduce corrupt practices in the country.

Speaking at the event, the ICPC chairman, Bolaji Owasanoye, said the commission’s research and findings showed that public sector corruption, directly and indirectly, enables insecurity and can sometimes complement it.

On a particular focus, the ICPC chairman while quoting data from the Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD) said about $15 billion had been squandered through fraudulent arms procurement deals in the last 20 years in the country.

He said: “Recently, ICPC arrested a military contractor that received over a period of less than 10 years cumulative sum of about N6 billion from the Nigerian Army in suspicious circumstances and in violation of extant legislation.

“Another case under investigation is theft of part of the special intervention fund approved for security operations by some civil servants in the line ministry who transferred about N1 billion to four Shell companies.

“A special investigative team under the leadership of the NSA and ICPC recovered some of the diverted assets, including state of the art building located in Abuja and over N220 million cash. Investigation on this matter is still ongoing.”

Also speaking, senate president, Ahmed Lawan, said; “The National Assembly while looking into the possibility of unmasking the perpetrators of insecurity in Nigeria, realised the need for an anti-corruption law to stop illicit financial flows suspected to be funding routes for insecurity in Nigeria. The 8th Assembly passed the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) Bill, which is one of the major anti-corruption laws that saved the country from being expelled from the global body of the Egmont Group.

“In the same vein, the 9th Assembly, working closely with security and law enforcement agencies to further strengthen their capacity to withstand unscrupulous elements involved in criminal and terrorist activities against the state, passed three bills aimed at combating money laundering, terrorist financing and the proceeds of crime. These three bills are in tandem with this administration’s commitment to fight corruption and curb insurgency in the country.”

Politics / Re: Why We Detained Train Abduction Negotiator, Mamu – DSS by divinehand2003(m): 6:55am On Sep 09, 2022

Politics / Why We Detained Train Abduction Negotiator, Mamu – DSS by divinehand2003(m): 6:51am On Sep 09, 2022
The Department of State Security Services (DSS) has said the Abuja-Kaduna train hostage negotiator, Tukur Mamu, is in its custody.

The DSS stated this in a statement by its spokesperson, Dr Peter Afunanya yesterday following reports that Mamu was arrested in Egypt.

The DSS said his arrest in Egypt followed complaints from the military and other security agencies in relation to some pertinent questions.

Part of the DSS statement reads: “This is to confirm that Mamu, as a person of interest, was intercepted by Nigeria’s foreign partners at Cairo, Egypt on 6th September 2022 while on his way to Saudi Arabia.

“He has since been returned to the country, today, 7th September 2022, and taken into the Service’s custody.

“The act followed a request by Nigeria’s military, law enforcement, and intelligence community to their foreign partners to bring back Mamu to the country to answer critical questions on ongoing investigations relating to some security matters in parts of the country. The public may wish to note that the law will appropriately take its course.”

Recall that Mamu has been in the news lately for his part in the release of the Kaduna train hostage  victims who were abducted on March 28.

In August, the publisher of Desert Herald Newspaper withdrew as the lead negotiator in securing the release of the remaining train attack victims and claimed that his life was under threat by the Nigerian government.

While being held in Egypt, Mamu accused the federal government of being responsible for his ordeal.

Mamu, who holds the traditional title of Dan Iya of Fika Emirate in Yobe State, commenced negotiations with the terrorists, who attacked the train and abducted many of the passengers, leading to the release of over 20 of them.

He later withdrew from the voluntary task of negotiations, citing threat to his personal safety. Mamu, however, became a medium of communication between the terrorists and the government on one hand and families of the kidnapped victims on the other hand, which also yielded some positive results.

Mamu, who confirmed his arrest to journalists yesterday, said: “I was on my way to Madina Saudi Arabia when they stopped me at Cairo Airport under the Nigerian government order.

“Nothing was found in my possession. So, I am sure the Department of State Security (DSS) officials are waiting for me at the Kano Airport, I don’t have anything to hide and like I said I am not afraid of them (DSS). I swear to God, I am not afraid of them. I just want the world to know of what is happening,” he said.

Politics / JUST-IN: NEC Passes Confidence Vote On Ayu-led NWC by divinehand2003(m): 6:21am On Sep 09, 2022
The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has passed a vote of confidence on the party’s national chairman, Dr Iyorchia Ayu, and the National Working Committee (NWC).

The NEC passed the confidence vote on the NWC on Thursday at its meeting held at the PDP national secretariat in Abuja.

NEC is the highest decision-making body of party after the national convention of the party.

The motion for the confidence vote was moved by the Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Hon. Ndudi Elumelu, and it was seconded by another party chieftain from the South-West, Ishola Filani.

The confidence vote comes amid calls by some PDP governors led by Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, for Ayu’s sack as national chairman of the party.

The Wike camp has insisted on Ayu’s removal as part of peace move and condition to support the presidential candidate of the party, Atiku Abubakar.

Politics / Police Constabularies Protest ‘nonpayment’ Of 18-month Salary In Osun by divinehand2003(m): 6:20am On Sep 08, 2022
No fewer than 480 people recruited as constabularies into the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) in Osun State yesterday trooped to the streets of Osogbo, the state capital to protest nonpayment of 18 months salaries.

The placard carrying protesters who stormed the popular Olaiya Flyover chanting various songs to press home their demands took off from Oke-fia area of the ancient town. They complained that they have not been paid any salary since the completion of their training in May 2021.

Some of the protesters who dressed in black police uniform carried placards with various inscriptions such as “Pay us our 18 months’ salary”, “18 month without kobo”, “Pay our salary now”, “Pay us Our Stipends And Allowances”, among others.

Speaking with newsmen, Constable Tijani Adewale said despite the fact that they have not been paid they were totally committed to their duties saying no few than three constabularies have lost their lives in the course of discharging their duties.

He said: “We lost three persons in Ikire and one in Iree. These people died in the course of discharging their duty. We are very dutiful despite the fact that we have not been paid a dime. Due to unpaid allowances, tricycle and okada riders have snatched our wives because of inability to take care of them.”

Addressing the protesters, Osun State commissioner of police, Adewale Olokode ordered them to stop the protest with immediate effect and assured them that the authorities concerned would look into their matter.

Politics / Ben Akabueze Contradicts Pantami, Says 5% Telecom Tax Stands by divinehand2003(m): 6:10am On Sep 07, 2022
Contrary to the pronouncement by the minister of communications and digital economy, Isa Ali Pantami, that the five percent telecom levy had been suspended, the director-general of the Budget Office, Ben Akabueze, has maintained that the tax remains in effect as the Budget Office of the Federation and the Federal Ministry of  Finance, Budget and National Planning had not been advised about the suspension.

Speaking on Arise News channel, Akabueze stressed that the five per cent tax on telecom services is part of the federal government’s expected revenue to fund the medium-term expenditure framework and that the bill had been passed into law.

He argued that a suspension would mean further fiscal deficit for Nigeria, just as he said telecom operators in Nigeria are not overtaxed but rather undertaxed.

“This is a matter that would be resolved in due course. I’m a member of the fiscal policy and tax policy review committee which includes members of the private sector; in fact, the majority of its members are from the private sector and we deliberated extensively on this matter before we arrived at including this in the finance bill.

“And one of the things that we looked at that time – so you know – four years ago, at least 21 countries in Africa had excise taxes on telecom services; in fact, in all of these countries also, they had VAT rates that were, on the average, double the VAT rate for Nigeria.

“There are extensive studies on this subject about the taxation of telecommunication companies in Africa and other developing countries, and I assure you that the average effective tax rate, which is called the AETR on telecommunications, in Nigeria is below the African average. There are several countries in Africa where the AETR on telecommunications is over 90 per cent which is giving rise to the concerns that in some places they may currently be overtaxed, but certainly not in Nigeria.

“Again, on this continent, as of today, we have the lowest tax to GDP ratio. And so, at a time when we face existential revenue challenges, I think that we all need to be really circumspect about what views we take on this matter.”

Akabueze further noted that there were several consultations with operators before the bill was passed and pronouncement was made, and that a reversal would further dampen Nigeria’s fiscal problems.

“This wasn’t something that the Ministry of Finance woke up and introduced. The finance bill went through the Federal Executive Council; it went to the National Assembly as, an executive bill from Mr. President, there were public hearings, and at the end of the day they passed it into law.”

According to him, his office engaged with different stakeholders including Customs, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and other industry practitioners to discuss the modalities for the implementation before

“Let me say, I don’t know about the suspension, I mean, this is the law now. So, I haven’t heard beyond what I’ve read in the media. We haven’t been advised about the suspension. So, for instance, recently, the Federal Executive Council passed the medium-term expenditure framework for 2023 and 2025. That includes projections for this tax; that framework is currently before the National Assembly in the last two weeks, and the Finance Committee of the National Assembly has been holding engagements with agencies of government on this.

“So, when we are formally advised that this is no longer applicable, then we will have to rework the medium-term expenditure framework. What that means is, of course, that the projected revenues will diminish, and the deficits would increase, which means that we either have to cut back on expenditure or increase debt,” he added.

Politics / Re: PDP Crisis: Leave Us Out Of Your Travails, APC Tells Ayu by divinehand2003(m): 6:07am On Sep 07, 2022
“As he (Ayu) struggled to deny a statement credited to him that Governor Nyesom Wike could not father a child".

This statement is very odd in the political space. This shows the level of incompetence and lack of credibility among the ruling class. What concerns inability to father a child with good governance? Nonsense.

Politics / PDP Crisis: Leave Us Out Of Your Travails, APC Tells Ayu by divinehand2003(m): 6:00am On Sep 07, 2022
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has cautioned national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Iyorchia Ayu, against dragging it into the travails of the opposition party.

The governing party was reacting to allegation by Ayu that it had been planting stories in the media to further stoke the feud between him and Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike.

Reports had quoted Ayu as alleging that Wike could not father a child, a statement Ayu denied and blamed on the APC.

But the APC, in a statement issued on Tuesday by its national publicity secretary, Barr Felix Morka, distanced itself from what it described as such a scandalous act, accusing the PDP national chairman of looking for who to blame for the hurricane about to consume the opposition party under his leadership.

Describing Ayu’s allegation as an escapist mindset approach, Morka said, “As he (Ayu) struggled to deny a statement credited to him that Governor Nyesom Wike could not father a child, the National Chairman of the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Sen. Iyorchia Ayu, alleged, ridiculously, that the All Progressives Congress (APC) and “other mischievous people” were planting such stories in the media and stoking the feud between him and the Rivers State Governor.

“Understandably, Chairman Ayu is deep in quicksand and swinging wildly in search of third parties to blame for the internal combustion in the party that he leads.

“With such an escapist mindset, it is not difficult to see why the meltdown in the PDP has proved intractable on his watch. Lacking forthrightness and character to accept responsibility for the crisis in his party, how can he possibly resolve it?

“Unlike the party of Ayu, APC does not “plant stories” and does not meddle in the internal affairs of other parties. That is an area of extreme and unrivaled competence of the PDP. In any event, the PDP is unraveling unstoppably and needs no help from the outside.

“Rather than distract himself in search of an illusory scapegoat, Ayu and stakeholders of his withering PDP should concentrate on finding an anchor to slow the Party’s rudderless drift.

APC wondered how a party like PDP that has proved incapable of governing itself can  govern a country as important as Nigeria.

“After 16 years of ruthless misgovernance and crass failure to reform and reposition itself, quite frankly, the PDP stands morally disqualified from asking Nigerians for their votes in the next general election.

“The ruling APC assured the populace that her attention and concern remain focused on the search for new and creative ways of improving the quality of life of our people, and working to convince them to renew our mandate again in 2023.”

I Won’t Succumb To Intimidation, Wike Vows

On his part, Rivers State governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, declared yesterday that no amount of intimidation and threats from the leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will deter him from demanding what is right for the people

The governor who insisted that Rivers State has contributed the most to the successes of the PDP since 1999 expressed regrets that the state had not benefited from her dedication to the party.

He alleged that PDP leaders had attempted to go into negotiation with President Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2019, saying he objected to that decision.

Wike spoke while  commissioning the Faculty of Agriculture of the Rivers State University, located at Abara-Etche in Etche local government area of the state.

The governor said: “If you are a Rivers man, you don’t need to be intimidated by anybody…We must take our rightful position. So, nobody should be worried. Intimidating me? Some people tell me, ‘Oh, be careful, they will kill you’. Kill who? Who told you, you will not die first?

“Those of you who are panicking, you don’t need to panic. I have God. What are you afraid of? They have chased us, they fought us but today we are standing very strong.

“Since 1999, I want Rivers people to always reflect on this, to ponder over it. Since 1999, we brought the highest votes for the Peoples Democratic Party. Since 1999, I challenge any state to say they brought more votes than Rivers State.

“Since 1999, I challenge any state in terms of support for the PDP, which state has given much support than Rivers State. Since 1999, show me one federal project in Rivers State.

“If you want our votes, tell me what you give will to Rivers State? Nothing can be for dash again. Enough is enough of using Rivers State and thinking we are foolish people and we don’t know what to do with our money.

“Enough is enough of using Rivers people and saying, ‘oh they will bring the votes and when they bring the votes they will push us away.

“Tell us what you are going to do for the people of Rivers State, not for me. There is nothing any of them can do for me but I am interested in my state, nobody can buy me.

“I am not going to look for position from anybody. Have I not been a minister before? So, what are you now going to entice me with as a person? Nothing. If you don’t tell me what the state will gain, then forget me.

“No amount of intimidation, no amount of threats. This government fought us but we survive. Most of them who are talking now, if this Federal Government had descended on them, they would have crumbled.”

PANDEF Warns Against North Retaining Power In 2023

Meanwhile, the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) has declared that Nigeria will not remain the same if power still remains in Northern Nigeria after the expiration of President Muhammadu Buhari’s eight-year tenure.

PANDEF vowed to mobilise their people from the creeks to reject such injustice.

Speaking when the leadership of PANDEF visited the presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Prince Adewole Adebayo, national publicity secretary of the organizmsation and chairman of the Delta State chapter of the Association, Ken Robinson, said there is a presidential candidate they will never endorse.

He noted: “After eight years of the Buhari presidency, another will want to retain power. Let me repeat to you, I was on TV after the PDP primaries. And there were speculations that the ticket of the APC is also likely to go North.

“In fact, the national chairman said they have a consensus candidate in person for the Senate president. And I said that if the two major political parties present Northern candidates, it will be a declaration of war in Southern Nigeria.

“We are in a situation where an administration has operated a system as if others do not exist. There are 17 military, para-military and Intelligence security agencies in the country. At the last count, 14 of them are from the Northern part of the country, three from Southern Nigeria. There are six zones. So, even if you distribute two each to each region you still have five you can share the way you want.

“The NNPC limited, as it is called, has 11 key management and board members. The south South has one person. South East has two, South West has one. Four to seven.”

“When the campaign starts, we will mobilise ourselves, speak to good Nigerians in Northern Nigeria and in Southern Nigeria why the next president of Nigeria should come from the Southern part of Nigeria. We were in a meeting with people from the Dutch Embassy; three days ago I was in a meeting with the British High commissioner and we told them this thing that Nigeria will no longer be what it had been if the next president goes North. The statement is not a threat. And we are serious. We will mobilise our people in the creeks, in the farmlands to the streets across Nigeria to work together. There are many people who don’t like what is going on. The Honourable Minister, Solomon Dalung, and other million people in the North who have clear conscience and who are sincere Nigerians want Nigeria to be better”.

Robinson said they were meeting with the presidential candidate to ensure that anyone that emerges governs well.

Also, the presidential candidate of the SDP, Prince Adewole Adebayo, said the meeting is part of a conversation that will help Nigeria.

He noted: “The conversation has begun. It won’t end today because it involved PANDEF, Afenifere and the Middle Belt. The unity of Nigeria is number one. There is no room for casting doubt on the continuity and unity of Nigeria, ” Adebayo said, adding that not a single square meter of Nigeria will be taken away.

“Niger Delta has been a source of stupendous wealth but nothing can’t be cured with justice.

“I view Niger Delta people as Nigerians first. Let’s leave the oil first. They are Nigerians. We are dealing with the Niger Delta in our government as human beings if we emerge.

“This division will cease to be relevant because when a just man is on the throne people rejoice. You need a righteous man not Hausa, Igbo Yoruba to be the next president.

“For this reason, I share the sympathy of the Middle Belt and Niger Delta. From region to region, from agenda to gender, power should rotate. We will not look at ourselves from where we are coming from, we will give Nigerians the needed leadership”.

Education / Re: End In Sight For ASUU Strike As FG Reviews ‘No-work No-Pay’ Policy by divinehand2003(m): 5:47am On Sep 07, 2022
"No work no pay" policy is not the major issue. ASUU is asking for implementation of the 2009 agreement which FG signed with them.

FG should always pursue that 2009 agreement and take it as a priority to implement it in all its totality instead of playing to the gallery.
