enormous threat. The ability of the malaria parasite to shut off the effects of Artemisinin has been spreading since it emerged in south east Asia. Scientists describe the development as very alarming. Deaths from malaria have nearly been halved since year 2000, and the infection now kill about 584 thousand people each year. The malaria type has been detected in Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar, also known as Burma, but not in Africa.

northern Nigeria and spilled over into Cameroon

Ghana’s President John Dramani Mahama and
his Chadian counterpart Idriss Deby told
reporters in Accra that the April 7-8 summit, for
which the host country has yet to be chosen, was
needed to sustain the regional offensive.
Mahama chairs the West African regional bloc
ECOWAS, while Deby heads the Economic
Community of Central African States (ECCAS).
“Single-handedly, no country can overcome this
threat and therefore through pooling our
resources together …we are going to overcome
this challenge,” Deby told reporters.

Kano state police command has confirmed the
arrest of a middle aged suspected suicide bomber
at the popular Unguwar Uku motor park along
Zaria Road in Kano.
The spokesman of the police in the state,
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Magaji
Musa Majiya confirmed to THISDAY on Thursday
that the incident happened when the suspect who
was carrying some luggage, refused to be
screened by the security guards manning the
motor park.
Majia said following the refusal of the suspect to
be screened, the mob attacked him leading to his
sustaining injuries.
"When the suspect wanted to run away, the mob
pursued him and beat him to a state of coma
before the arrival security agents".
According to him, the anti-bomb unit of the
command thoroughly checked the area and the
suspect but did not find any explosive.
