Business / South Africans Can Now Scan To Pay With Crypto by Djdeebrain(m): 8:01am On Sep 28, 2023
Scan to Pay, Powered by Ukheshe, has partnered with Xion Global to offer crypto payments on the Scan to Pay app.

Scan to Pay, powered by Ukheshe, is the largest QR ecosystem in South Africa and is used by more than 600,000 vendors, 14 banks and fintech companies and 94 payment service providers. Now, this new partnership will seamlessly introduce more crypto payment options to mainstream South Africa through the Scan to Pay app.

Tracy-Lee Schoeman, Vice President of Loyalty and Rewards at Ukheshe, says the rise of cryptocurrencies has created a new wave of opportunities for performing financial transactions. “Cryptocurrency payments have the potential to transform the way people transact with lower fees, faster settlement times, and greater financial sovereignty – something Ukheshe is excited to offer through Scan to Pay.”

A Deloitte survey revealed that almost 75% of retailers in the USA plan to accept either cryptocurrency or stablecoin payments in the near future. And with crypto already available as a payment option at major South African retailers and even spaza shops, it’s clear that the local market is heading in the same direction.

Ronan Quarmby, CEO at Xion, says approximately 12.5% of South Africa’s population owns cryptocurrency. “With 83% of these owners falling within the 18-44 age group and 52% using crypto for purchases, it’s evident that web3 payments represent the future of online transactions in the country.

With increasing cryptocurrency adoption, South African businesses recognise its potential and 94% of business owners already believe that integrating cryptocurrency payments would be advantageous. As web3 payments continue to evolve rapidly, especially in emerging markets, South Africa is poised to lead the charge in Africa.”

Users can expect a seamless payment process akin to traditional payment methods. After linking their Metamask wallet, the customer will simply scan a QR code on their receipt, check the amount in the Scan to Pay app, select ‘pay with crypto voucher’, and complete the transaction in one click.

In addition to 1-click multi-chain payments, Xion Global’s infrastructure also incorporates robust security features such as AML, KYC, KYB, and KYT to protect against unauthorized funds and deter malicious merchant actions. Furthermore, with their strategic collaboration with Polygon Labs, Xion Global is poised to spearhead the Web3 payments movement in South Africa.

And it’s only the beginning. Says Quarmby: “Xion Global recognised the expansive reach and potential of Scan to Pay, powered by Ukheshe, and this new partnership made absolute sense. The solution will be rolled out in phases. Consumers can benefit from gasless USDT (Polygon) transactions during phase 1, expanding to multi-chain payments in phase 2. Phase 3 will offer cashback rewards, loyalty programs, and discounts at specific Scan to Pay merchants, motivating users to incorporate crypto payments into their daily routines.”

Schoeman says the partnership is another step towards Ukheshe’s ultimate vision of financial inclusion for all South Africans. “As a decentralised form of finance, cryptocurrencies are being embraced by consumers in emerging markets as they help overcome many of the challenges commonly faced when engaging with traditional banks. This partnership merges traditional payment methods with the decentralised world of web3 to reduce transaction fees, enhance incentives, and ultimately increase financial inclusion.”

Politics / FG Advocates Free, Secure Internet Across Africa by Djdeebrain(m): 1:32pm On Sep 25, 2023
The Federal Government (FG) of Nigeria, through the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani has advocated for a free and secure internet across Africa.

Tijani, who made the call at the just-concluded Africa Internet Governance Forum in Abuja, advised African countries to make access to the Internet open and secure because this will help bridge the digital divide and create innovative opportunities within the continent.

The Minister, during the event which took place at the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja, said that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is committed to engendering necessary collaborations and international dialogues to achieve these objectives.

He added that Nigeria, as the largest telecommunications market in Africa, is conscious of all the dynamics of emerging technologies around internet usage.

Tijani further said that Nigeria would continue to work with other countries in Africa on different fronts to ensure that the internet is effectively governed so its innumerable resources can be leveraged for the citizens and nation’s growth.

“The need for our consistent collaboration to develop our economy collectively is preeminent in the agenda of the current administration in Nigeria,” Tijani told parliamentarians and other participants from Africa who attended the forum in Abuja.

“It is through this kind of forum that we can bridge the digital divides, enhance cybersecurity, ensure digital rights and foster innovation.

“It is, therefore, our collective duty to ensure that the internet remains open, safe and beneficial for all.”

Tijani, in his address, encouraged all the stakeholders to prioritise a collaborative approach to creating policies and strategies.

According to him, this will play a huge role in shaping the future of the internet in Africa, the future that will reflect the continent’s shared values, aspirations and diversity.

Tijani did not fail in his speech to specifically praise the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and other agencies that constituted the Local Organising Committee (LOG) on behalf of the Nigerian government, as well as all the sponsors for a successful 2023 AfIGF.

He also expressed delight with their effective planning and dedication to driving change in Africa’s digital future and said that it is something that is highly commendable.

Politics / President Tinubu Has Turned His Back On Rivers APC Because Of Wike – Party Chief by Djdeebrain(m): 1:03pm On Sep 25, 2023
Members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers are pondering what will become of them against the ongoing political romance between a former governor of the state, Nyesom Wike and President Bola Tinubu.

Wike, the current minister of the Federal Capital Territory, is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Members of the APC in Rivers say they have completely lost out in the state’s political equation as the president prefers to deal with Wike, a PDP member, rather than them.

Despite being a member of the PDP, Wike openly worked for Tinubu during the 2023 presidential election.

An official of the APC in the state, who did not want his name on print, lamented that after the APC members sacrificed their lives to keep the party since 2015, Tinubu seems to have turned his back on them rather than give them succour as was the case under former President Muhammadu Buhari.

The source said: “Tinubu’s actions have finally crushed what is left of the APC or are driving the nail into the coffin of the party in the state.

It is unlikely that the president has forgotten so quickly that it was under the Wike-led PDP in Rivers state that the APC was almost frozen and given several death blows, which significantly paralysed activities of the party in the state from 2015 up until 2019 and beyond.

“Several observers who are very familiar with the political history of the APC in Rivers are worried about the sudden romance of President Tinubu with PDP’s Wike to the detriment of his own party in the state which he personally courted in 2014.”

“It is well within the president’s right and powers to appoint anyone who he considers fit into his cabinet irrespective of political, social, ethnic or religious leanings.

“However, it is equally imperative for the president to understand that such moves shouldn’t be done at the expense of his party and that such actions should have been guided by conscience and the constitutional provisions of his party.

“Article 9 (3) (iii) of the APC constitution clearly provides for rewards and compensation to party members by APC-led governments at all levels.

“The president as leader of his party is bound by conscience and constitution of his party to give members of his party a sense of belonging in his government whether or not he feels their efforts were not enough to have contributed to his victory.”

Politics / Is North Now Obidient? by Djdeebrain(m): 1:13pm On Feb 05, 2023
Even with his rising poll numbers, the core North, precisely North West and North East, has long been tipped as the Achilles’ heel of the presidency aspiration of Labour Party candidate, Peter Obi. His well-predicted and widely-expected poor showing in these two geopolitical zones in the February 25 poll is projected by pollsters, of all shades, to deny him the constitutional spread to win at first ballot, despite many projections putting him atop the top four of himself, Atiku Abubakar of PDP, Bola Tinubu of APC and Rabiu Kwankwaso of NNPP.

Many reasons have been advanced for this calculation. One, until Obi emerged the presidential candidate of Labour Party on May 30, 2022, the party wasn’t in the big league, whether in the North or South, though it had always been a verifiable go-to vehicle for grudge and disgruntled aspirations, like the Accord and the rest. If the liberal South would not total disdain the platform, North simply had no love for it. Then, Obi himself, wasn’t a national political name of such, despite partnering Atiku Abubakar in 2019. In that race, Atiku was in the shadow of North’s god and sitting president, Muhammadu Buhari. Well, in recent time, the god is suffering an unbelievable meltdown among his hitherto fanatical adherents. Guess, the worshippers are frustrated their sustained libations and sacrifices, which include their blood and lives, to the god, aren’t adding much value to them and decided to replace their affection with disaffection. But instead of resorting to stoning their deity as if he is the devil himself and turning themselves into public nuisance, the aggrieved Northern youth can still borrow a leaf from Yoruba’s way of showing discontent to a deity who isn’t delivering. Deploying the wisdom of “orisa bo le gbemi”, Yoruba usually drop such unfruitful deities like hot potato.

Last week, former number four citizen, Yakubu Dogara, a chieftain of PDP, disclosed that North is uncharacteristically, opening its arms for a warm embrace of Obi. The minority Christian Northerner from Bauchi conceded the burgeoning romance between Obi and core North, may effectively seal the presidency for the former Anambra governor. He was bemused North was taking the unusual step, but blamed the widely-held disappointing performance of Buhari and APC for the unexpected rise in Obi’s stock in the North. Dogara called the election which is 20 days away from today a two-horse race, between his man, Atiku Abubakar and Obi. But he has his worries; Obi is unknown to him.

If the obvious meteoric rise of Obi, contrary to narratives that his lack of political structures nationwide would do him in, and his widening visibility in the North, should eventually transform to winning votes for him, that would make him the biggest political revelation of this election cycle and perhaps, this republic. An outstanding performance by him in the election is also going to energise the ubiquitous but largely inorganic Third Force, whose never-ending aspiration as a respected voice in the Nigeria political sphere, is now invested in the LP candidate. A win for Obi will equally mean massive disruption in the camps of the big two: APC and PDP. The we-can-rule-the-world imagination of the youths will be unquenchably fired. The campaigners for independent candidacy will go full throttle, considering that Obi could as well pass as an independent candidate, who just needed a political platform to fulfil constitutional qualification to participate. In reality, he is evidently bigger than the party. Nothing proves this more than the Bauchi campaign scenario when he still pulled a huge crowd, despite the entire party structure in the state, including the governorship candidate, boycotting. In fact, the campaign council for the entire North East zone, ported to PDP, citing irreconcilable differences with certain elements around the candidate. Yes, Obi had what could pass for a successful outing in his campaign in the zone, but he would need every hand that he can get in an environment just welcoming him and can’t just allow defections of any quantum. For whatever value placed on their worth, Muhammad Pantani, the spokesperson of the aggrieved, and their supporters, whether four million as claimed or just four, should have been managed one way or the other, though some people are simply implacable.

Obi’s supporters may even want to argue that he is still the best in human management among the big three, pointing to his campaign being the least rancorous, despite the Bauchi hitch. That is true, considering that the crisis in APC is eclipsing its campaign. But Obi has more to prove to North than others.

Just like Dogara is worried, he is the proverbial unknown angel. If the political establishment had its way, its front-row members would stick the proverbial known devils. But devils seemed to have failed the North so much that the younger elements are opting for a trial romance with someone the other part of the country, is tipping as a messiah. It would be too early for allegations of bias, on whatever grounds, against the candidate’s honchos.

Nairaland / General / Why Davido, Chioma Married Secretly After Son’s Death. by Djdeebrain(m): 8:06pm On Nov 13, 2022
By Nehru Odeh

It has been reported that popular singer Davido and his partner, Chioma have secretly done their traditional wedding. This is coming weeks after the couple lost their three-year-old son, Ifeanyi who drowned in a swimming pool in the artiste’s Banana island mansion in Lagos.

The traditional wedding, which was attended by few family and friends reportedly held on 6 November in Davido’s father’s house, with no camera allowed. Chioma’s bride price was paid in full.

Though Davido, before his son’s untimely death had earlier informed the public that he and Chioma would get married in 2023, the traditional wedding had to be moved forward following the tragedy that recently befell the celebrity couple.

It was reported that Chioma, following her son’s death, had told Davido that there was nothing more left for her to be looking at as the son that bound them together was no more.

Davido had to move the traditional wedding forward ostensibly to console Chioma and give her assurance that, without or without a son, her place is assured. Davido’s family is doing everything to make the couple happy.

Both couple are still mourning, and Chioma has lost so much weight. A recent photo that revealed Davido having a haircut in his first public outing showed his eyes swollen from profuse tears.

Chioma, on her part is still trying to come to terms with the death of her son. Few weeks before her son’s death, her personal room was gutted by a mysterious fire. The cause of the fire remains unknown till date.

Nairaland / General / Why Many States Are Flooded —FG by Djdeebrain(m): 10:14am On Oct 20, 2022
THE Federal Government has said water from the Lagdo Dam in Cameroon is not responsible for the flooding that has devastated parts of Nigeria.

While the Senate Committee on Water Resources, like many Nigerians, was of the view that water released from Lagdo Dam in Cameroon was responsible for the devastating flood in many parts of the country, the Minister of Water Resources, Suleiman Adamu, said that was not the case.

The minister said the flood is due to water flowing from tributaries like River Katsina Ala and others flowing into River Benue due to the consistent downpour.

“Yes the dam releases water; sometimes it releases water without notice and when they do that, it has impact on communities downstream. “It is not the main reason you have flood in this country.

“The tributaries of River Benue are the main cause. And this year, the rains have been unprecedented.

“The trans-boundary water that even comes into this country from Rivers Niger and Benue constitutes only 20 per cent of the fresh water that flows into the country.

“Eighty per cent of the flood is water we are blessed with from the sky falling on Mambila and Jos Plateau.

“Most of this flow is from Nigeria. You cannot stop flooding, it’s a natural phenomenon; just like you cannot stop earthquake,” he said.

Senator Adamu Aliero had raised the issue of floods in the country during the budget defence of the ministry and asked what efforts the ministry was putting in place.

Speaking on Lagdo Dam, the minister said “when President Paul Biya came here on a state visit in 2016, it took efforts to get a memorandum of understanding for them to be informing Nigeria about releases of Lagdo Dam.”

The minister said despite the MoU, it was the Nigerian hydrological services that would call Cameroon whenever flood time came.

“Even this one, they are the ones who should keep us informed about the level of the water, but they didn’t. They informed us 24 hours after,” he said.

The Senate Committee also wanted to know what happened to Dasin Hausa dam in Adamawa State, which was meant to mitigate the effects of water released from Lagdo Dam. The minister replied that it was still on the drawing board, but added that even if the dam is built, it will not help much.

“Whether we are able to do the dam or not, we will continue to have floods on the Rivers Niger and Benue Basins.

“There was a consultant that had been appointed by the previous administration to work on this dam. When I came into office, I checked the scope of work and the terms of reference. I was not satisfied that justice will be done to that design.

“You cannot build a dam as important and strategic as Dasin Hausa on River Benue without a detailed feasibility and engineering design.
“I disengaged the consultant in 2016. It was one of the 116 projects that we had,” he said.

He, however, expressed optimism that by March 2023, the dam would be completed.

Politics / Tinubu Appeases Adamu With APC Presidential Campaign Council Deputy Chairman by Djdeebrain(m): 9:22am On Oct 20, 2022
The Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, has smoothen his frosty relationship with the National Chairmanship of the party, Senator Abdullahi Adamu.
Naija News reports that the former Governor of Lagos State has pacified the APC National Chairman with the position of the Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Campaign Council (PCC).

Recall that a cold war had ensued between Tinubu and Adamu over the composition and release of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, which has President Muhammadu Buhari as the Chairman.

Following the release of the initial 422-member list, Adamu purportedly wrote a letter, which went viral, accusing Tinubu of running a one-man show over the selection of members of the PCC, among others.

Adamu in the letter alleged that Tinubu deliberately sidelined the NWC in the composition of his presidential campaign council.
But hours after it went viral, the leadership of the APC distanced itself from the contentious letter.

A statement issued in Abuja by the National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Felix Morka, stated that the letter did not emanate from the party.

Following the development, the council withdrew the list to include the APC NWC and other aggrieved members of the party in the newly-harmonised list.

In a new list released on Wednesday night by the APC National Secretary of the APC, Senator Iyiola Omisire, the party chairman was appointed as the Deputy Chairman of the council, while Tinubu emerged as the Deputy Chairman II.

In a chat with The Punch, a source within the PCC said Tinubu decided to give up his position in the council to Adamu to allow peace to reign.

The APC chieftain disclosed that the cold war between Tinubu and Adamu has always been there long before the APC presidential primary ended.

He said: “You know the cold war between them has always been there long before the APC presidential primary ended. Adamu is always suspicious of any move that Tinubu makes and seeks ways to tackle it.

“Even the members of the NWC know Adamu doesn’t hide the fact that he always wants to be made a key member of decision-makers to decide the direction of the campaign ahead of 2023.”

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has threatened to expose officials stopping Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) loans to Abia and Benue states.

Wike claimed the motive was to punish Governor Samuel Ortom and Governor Okezie Ikpeazu for supporting his demand for the resignation of the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Iyorchia Ayu.

He spoke at Ikpeazu’s 58th birthday celebration in his country home at Umuobiakwa community in Obingwa Council of Abia State on Tuesday.

“I will tell you very soon, how money that was supposed to come to Abia State for my friend to use to develop Abia State was stopped recently by those who think they own this country, by those who think Ikpeazu did not support them. Because Ikpeazu supported me, they stopped Abia State from getting the money they are supposed to get to develop Ariara market.

“Okezie Ikpeazu is just the governor of Abia State. He is not the owner of Abia State. He is just a symbol of Abia State. Anybody who fights Abia State, you’re not fighting Okezie, you are fighting the people of Abia.”

Wike, in a statement by his media aide, Kelvin Ebiri, said the CBN loan is a facility designed to be available to every state of the Federation. According to him, Rivers State has accessed and secured the loan already.

“I will tell all of you, how Abia and Benue states were denied of their money that every state had received from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

“I got it (CBN loan). Anybody, who dares to stop my money, they know, I will not take it from them. You can see how people are wicked, they are not in office yet, but they are fighting people, stopping states’ money.

“Even as we have criticised President Muhammadu Buhari, he has never stopped our money any day, never.”

Wike frowned on some Nigerians, who carry on as masters over others and treat people as slaves.

He restated his call for the resignation of the PDP National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, stressing that the demand by him and his allies was meant to achieve inclusivity, where every region will have sense of belonging.

In felicitating with Ikpeazu, Wike lauded the courage and foresight of the celebrant to establish a library that will serve as a resource centre for scholars.

He inaugurated the library and donated N200 million.

In his remark, Ikpeazu expressed joy that on the occasion of his 58th birthday, he was able to formally inaugurate a library in honour of his late father.

The Pa Ishmael Ikpeazu library, he said, would, among others, house Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu Scientific Leadership Institute, which has started with the enrollment of 50 students on fellowship, and a small family museum that has a collection of relics of the family’s blacksmith heritage.

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has said those backing Iyorchia Ayu to remain as the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have witnessed nothing compared to what’s next to come from him.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that a section of PDP members, especially in the South, has been calling for Ayu’s resignation to pave way for a chairman of Southern extraction to take over since the presidential candidate of the party, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, is from the North.

The aggrieved PDP members led by Wike have continued to boycott the PDP presidential campaigns.

It can also be recalled that on Tuesday, Wike endorsed the Second term bid of Lagos state governor, Babajide Sanwoolu, who is of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Speaking on Tuesday at the birthday celebration of his ally, Okezie Ikpeazu, the Abia State governor, Wike said: “You go and march soldier ant, anything you see, you take.

“All these things they are talking…we are just peaceful, they came to march us, then the soldier ant has entered everywhere, and now they are crying, they have not seen anything.”

He added: “People see problem and cause it for themselves. All I have said is ‘live and let live’.”

The Chairman, Lagos State Park and Garages Management Committee, Musiliu Akinsanya popularly known as MC Oluomo has issued a statement distancing himself from the enforcement of a sticker having the image of the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tricycles in the state.

Oluomo, in a statement on Wednesday, debunked a viral video of a tricycle rider being forced to pay N1000 to place Bola Tinubu’s campaign stickers on his vehicle.

The sticker also bears the image of MC Oluomo, Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu and APC’s presidential running mate, Kashim Shettima.

Reacting to the outburst, MC Oluomo said that he has no hand in the campaign stickers. He stated categorically that he is not so daft to do such a thing.

He also pointed fingers at the Igbos and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP of possibly behind the video.

In his words; “Anywhere you see them selling this stickers, beat them up and hand them over to the Police or report these cases to us. Whoever is selling this stickers should not spoil our name. You are thieves.”

“Maybe its the Igbos or someone or the opponents or the PDP trying to be smart. Wherever you see them arrest them.”

All those trying to be smart, spreading fake rumours, staging fake incidents, when you see them, beat them up and hand them over to the police.”

Politics / PDP Threatens To Expose Obasanjo Over Comment On Atiku by Djdeebrain(m): 9:57am On Jun 28, 2022
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has asked former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, to clarify his recent comments on their party’s Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, that he made a mistake in appointing him (Atiku) as his Vice President in 1999.

According to the party, if the former President fails to clarify the statements credited to him within 48 hours, the party will tell Nigerians Obasanjo really is.

Speaking in a press conference in Kaduna on Monday, the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT) Chairman, Senator Walid Jibrin, also disclosed that a committee will be constituted by the party to meet with the Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike, over the issue of Vice president.

He said the party have a way of resolving its internal crisis.

In the statement credited to the Former Nigerian leader on Atiku which was highly reported by online and conventional media, the BoT chairman remarked that he and the party (PDP) have high regard and respect for the former President.

But was quick to add, that they will be disappointed if the statement credited to him and carried in all the national dailies were true.

To this end, he said, “I wish to appeal to former President Obasanjo to come out openly to repeat what he has said. Whether or not he was misquoted or meant what was credited to him.

“Although he has not debunked what was reported, one can assume that what was quoted to have been said by him is correct, but if he fails to openly come out and say which is correct in 48 hours, you will hear the bombardment and I will have no option but to break the egg and tell the whole world and Nigerians who is Obasanjo.

“There is no doubt Obasanjo may still be angry with Atiku even after helping him to succeed but perhaps for truncating his third term agenda, in any case, Alhaji Abubakar Atiku is our presidential candidate and I can tell you for sure that he will be the President in 2023 Insha Allah.”

On the outcome of picking Governor Ifeanyi Okowa as Atiku’s running mate, he disclosed that a high-powered reconciliatory committee is soon to be constituted to meet Governor Wike and appeal to him.

“Governor Wike is a great party man who fought for the party, when the committee is constituted, in which we will also bring other contestants together, we will go and meet with Governor Wike and appeal to him even if it means kneeling down to beg him,” he stressed.

“It is our belief that in any contest, there will always be a winner and a loser and we must take whatever comes our way as the will of God who gives power to whatever he wishes at the time he wishes.

“Atiku is a great man, a man of honour and integrity who will lead Nigeria to greatness, we will bring our head down, in fact very low and respect every Nigerian as a party and that is why we are calling on party members to be united to ensure that we win the next election. We must unite among ourselves and avoid speaking against ourselves in a manner that portrays the party in a bad light.

“We lose the Ekiti election because there was no unity among party members but we have learnt our lessons, that is why prominent persons have been appointed to handle the Osun election and I can tell you that Senator Ademola Adeleke will be the next governor of Osun State.”

He said: “The PDP is kicking very well and we will rule Nigeria again and do better. We will do all within our powers to ensure victory for Atiku and Okowa come 2023 Presidential elections.”

Nairaland / General / Stop Castigating Bishop Onaga, Pray For Peter Obi – Fr. Mbaka Tells Supporters by Djdeebrain(m): 1:35pm On Jun 23, 2022
Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka, Spiritual Director of Adoration Ministry Enugu Nigeria (AMEN), has urged adoration members to stop castigating Bishop Callistus Onaga and continue praying for Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

Mbaka issued the warning while addressing members of the Adoration who converged at the adoration ground on Wednesday in Enugu for prayers.

He also urged them to keep away from the ground in obedience to His Lordship order, adding that the closure of the Adoration was still in force and all activities remained suspended in obedience to the directive of the Bishop.

Mbaka said: “I’m a priest of the Catholic Church and the Bishop is my father, I swore an oath to obey him and his successors. I can not do otherwise.”

The fiery cleric also urged them to continue praying for Mr Peter Obi stressing that he was one of them, a brother and friend.

“I have come to bless you and to dismiss you, I don’t want you to go to the main road. I don’t want you to be pugnacious or to be cantankerous,” he said.

He added that he does not want them to be violent or classified as bandits for we are not bandits.

”We are obedient children of God, we love the mother church and the mother Church loves us so much,” Mbaka added.

Crime / Two Nigerians Arrested For Conspiring To Traffic Child From UK To ‘harvest’ Orga by Djdeebrain(m): 1:15pm On Jun 23, 2022
Two Nigerians have been arrested by UK police for conspiring to traffic a child to Nigeria for the purpose of ‘harvesting’ the organs.

Metropolitan police in a statement said that Beatrice Nwanneka Ekweremadu and Ike Ekweremadu, who are 55 and 60 years old respectively have been remanded in custody and will appear at Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court.

The police confirmed that the man and a woman have been charged with conspiring to arrange to bring a child to the UK to harvest organs in their home country, Nigeria.

They are both charged with conspiracy to arrange or facilitate the travel of another person with a view to exploitation, namely organ harvesting.

Police, however, said the child has been safeguarded but did not disclose the gender or the age of the child or the location of the arrests.

The report suggests that it is likely the suspects were arrested at Heathrow Airport since they are appearing in a court in Uxbridge.

A police investigation was launched after detectives were alerted to potential offences under modern slavery legislation in May 2022, the force said.

In September 2021, UK police appealed for information twenty years after the severed body of a Nigerian boy was found.

The young boy is believed to have been killed as a human sacrifice was found in the River Thames, London.

The boy’s headless and limbless body was found in the London part of the river clad in orange shorts on September 21, 2001. The police believed the boy came from Nigeria.

On Tuesday, London’s Metropolitan Police asked those who may have knowledge of the case to be “bold”, suggesting they may no longer be bound by former allegiances.

“It is incredibly sad and frustrating that Adam’s murder remains unsolved,” said Detective Chief Inspector Kate Kieran.

“This young boy has not and will not be forgotten. He deserved better and we will not give up on him.”

Politics / 2023: Why I Will Step Down From Pursuing My Presidential Ambition, Wike Reveals by Djdeebrain(m): 9:45pm On Apr 20, 2022
The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) presidential aspirant and Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike on Wednesday revealed the only reason he can step down from contesting for the 2023 general election.

Wike, who made this revelation while speaking during a courtesy visit to the Governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje said that he would have stepped down and not run for the Presidency if Ganduje was contesting for the same position come 2023.

He said, “If Ganduje is running for the presidency some of us will quickly withdraw our ambitions, but thank God he is not running, and I’m sure he will help me to make it.”

He, however, urged the Kano State Governor to support his 2023 Presidential ambition.

Daily Independent reports that Ganduje had earlier warned Wike against pursuing his Presidential ambition predicting that Wike would lose if he runs for the Presidency in 2023.

Politics / Boko Haram Insurgency Not About Religion, Ethnicity – Buhari by Djdeebrain(m): 9:35pm On Apr 20, 2022
The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), Wednesday in Abuja, said the Boko Haram insurgency has neither religious nor ethnic underpinning, and with adequate education, majority of Nigerians now know the truth.

The President spoke when he received the Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, Karin Khan, at State House, Abuja, saying that with concerted public enlightenment, it had become clear to the people that Boko Haram was a perversion of religion, rather than Islamic ideology.

According to a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Buhari said, “To say Western education is unacceptable (Haram) is very fraudulent. That is why we are fighting them, and educating the people. Education is fundamental. Religion and ethnicity are out of it. Some people have just made it a lifestyle to cause confusion, destruction, and death.”

The statement is titled ‘With adequate education, people now know that Boko Haram is neither about religion nor ethnicity, President Buhari tells ICC prosecutor’.

"God is justice. You can’t kill innocent people, and shout; Allah Akbar (God is great). It’s either you don’t know that God at all, or you are simply being stupid."

To say Western education is unacceptable (Haram) is very fraudulent. That is why we are fighting them, and educating the people. And we are succeeding a lot. We came to office when things were very bad, but we are educating the people.

"Education is fundamental. Religion and ethnicity are out of it. Some people have just made it a lifestyle to cause confusion, destruction, and death.”
