UltraSolid: I am not fighting you either. I just hate people making silly statements because they hate others and are prejudiced against them.
We must all reason and talk like educated men, plus defer to facts always, regardless of ethnicity and religion, if we are not to disgrace Nigeria in an information age where non-Nigerians read Nairaland.
If you ask 100 top global economic analysts if Abuja can catch up with Lagos in the next 50 years , let alone surpass her, in economic capacity and output then not even 1 will say yes.
It is very simple. The many natural endowment and advantages of Lagos landlocked Abuja, a glorified civil servant and politics-driven enclave, will/can never have. As simple as that.
It is imbecilic,, for example, to claim Floyd Mayweather Jr can became a greater basketball player than Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan etal because sane men will accept his obvious limitation puts a cap on what he can achieve on a basketball court in comparison to those guys.
It is simply same with Lagos and Abuja. Where is the socio-economic output going to come from for Abuja to match Lagos in the next 100 years yet your brother, you blindly jumped in to support, claims Abuja has overtaken Lagos already?
When will you people let go of this madness that messes up your thinking to the extent you deny what is obvious and follow what is outlandishly wrong the way Igbos ignored elected leaders to queue behind Kanu and Ekpa to their serious detriment today?
No one is telling you not to hate Yorubas. That is your own shelengen. Yet senseless, as grown men one assume are sane, to make up craziness to assist you demonise and demarket Yorubas and the SW. Do what you have to do with facts and proven data/statistics and no one will talk back if such prove your case. Oga we no dey quarel. No where it said I hate my fellow country Man. Anyone will tell you Lagos has an expansive economy. The most dynamic, most promising and most opportuned in Nigeria by far. Only Igbos, to spite Yorubas with their doom and gloom forecast for anything SW-affiliated, would ludicrously indicate Abuja, a civil servant and politicians enclave, has even the most minute of real innate chance to catch up with lagos economically let alone surpass her.
Of course facts and reality mean nothing to you lot so I'll let you keep day-dreaming and backing each other clannishly and devoid off logic.

He has been predicting the downfall of Lagos, and her belittling by an Okoro State, online for two decades now. Mental illness confirmed. Anyone doubt me, check his past post.
Imagine a sane person claiming Abuja is overtaking Lagos already. With what exactly? Eko Atlantic is holding the biggest US consulate in the whole universe and will be home to the headquarters of some of the world's biggest companies with the attendant investment benefits such brings while this old lunatic continues to talk nonsense.
We have not even talked of the LFTZ and Lekki international Airport that will open up Lagos further for business and investment plus make her one of the biggest continental trading hubs in the universe let alone literally thousands of other socio-economically empowering considerations and plans underway in the State.
These people's mental illness is something else. Landlocked Abuja, a glorified civil servant and politician enclave, can ever come even close to 10% the economic output of Lagos when "Detty December" alone showed the massive potential of tourism yet to be unlocked in Lagos? Just making crazy and wild claims simply to hate on and downgrade Lagos and the Yorubas. Walahi, Igbo man inherited lunacy needs to be researched.

While Tolaram is headquarted in Singapore - it does have a solid presence in Nigeria. Shares of Guinness have not been taken off the exchange meaning it is still publicly traded as a NGX listed company. NGX companies are Nigerian companies the ultimate control irrespective.
But the specific idea I was refuting is that the exit of foreign blue chip countries from Nigeria is a sign of economic regressions. Tolarams turn around of Guinness in an astonishingly short time puts paid to such ideas. I am just letting you know the obvious. Dangote group, Bua group, GLO/Conoil are totally and completely Nigerian Companies. They are loyal to Nigeria A company headquartered in Singapore Is not Nigerian, he will make his billions of dollars and repatriate it back to where he's headquartered. Just like MTN repatriated billions of dollars and President Buhari found them out. What I am saying is it's time we Nigerians get Sense. Anything that is our own is ours. TheGoodJoe: While in college overseas in my economics class. My economics professor never taught anything about( and everything my lecturers pointed about over 10 years ago is still a very big problem for African Nations) VAT is not on +ve sides on the assets in any country s balance sheet.
I would be very grateful if you expand on this. Just briefly. I am struggling to really merge why money flowing from the people to the government is not a government asset. Let me point you to: this during 2008 global financial crisis, was Nigeria affected? No Why? Because the country had accrued billions of dollars from crude oil sales during Obj era and Yaradua era. Coupled with Soludo s banking reforms Those crude oil earnings are counted as +ve on balance sheet of Nigerias finance. VAT is not an earning into Nigeria s coffers. It's money generated within the country. I personally believe over taxing the people shouldn't be the the priority right now. Example when the US and the entire globe entered a terrible recession from Obama s first term in 2008. Top global Banks like Lehman Brothers went under and many Western financial centres were hit hard What did Obama do? He cut interest rates to 1 basis point Bailed out some financial institutions that were under This enabled them to loan out money to businesses Then as businesses started generating again, after 2 years the federal reserve now increased interest rates to encourage savings EU central Bank, Bank of England did same. During that 2008 financial crisis Asian economies were not bothered because because they learnt there lessons from Asia's 1997 financial crisis. They reformed and were insulated during the 2008 global crisis When a country is in recession Over taxing the people is not the way to go. Rather creat an enabling environment, support Small Scale and Medium Enterprises(SMEs). Govt officials should completely cut cost. There is so much colossal waste. Those monies should be channeled to still support more SMEs. Then as the people are generating ok. Govt can now over tax the people. Singapore did same, China did same, India did same, Indonesia did same, Brazil did same, Turkey did same. Guesss what they are all doing well for there citizens. When I look at leaders sometimes I weep for Nigeria. We have everything to fix this country. Instead of us to come together as people to make this Nation work all you see is bitterness, divisions, hate. The West, Asians, even the Arabs will look at us and be laughing. We must wake up as a people. I recommend these books for you 1. Singapore from third world to first world written by Lee Quan yew the prime minister of Singapore 2. My vision by sheikh Al Mouktam the ruler of Dubai Visionary leaders build a Nation from toddler to greatness. |

casualobserver: When I post I give figures. For me to take you seriously I suggest you do your homework and actually find the figures behind the headlines you posted above. I know you haven’t because if you did you would realize I am right.
For a start diaspora remittances is $20b a year. Do the math on oil. Production @1.5mpd, govt share of JV is often 50% sometimes 40%, sometimes 60%. Not all the oil we produce belongs to us this is a fallacy of many uninformed Nigerians. On average we keep 50%. That 50% is after cost of production.
production cost is $40 a barrel. I think you’ll find out that at $75 a barrel, less than $10b a year from oil goes to the govt.
I know it is shocking to you but they’ve been telling you for years, most weren’t paying attention.
I will read the rest of your post and reply later in the mean time get some figures to back up your post. Talk is cheap, figures speak for themselves.
https://punchng.com/nigerias-diaspora-remittances-exceed-90bn-in-five-years-nidcom/#google_vignetteTV The $20bn remittance is from Nigerian diasporas Remittance is not generated by Govt but by Nigerians working overseas returned as black tax. Hope you are aware? What made me reply your first mentions is your claim about VAT I told you VAT is generated from the money circulating within the economy. While in college overseas in my economics class. My economics professor never taught anything about( and everything my lecturers pointed about over 10 years ago is still a very big problem for African Nations) VAT is not on +ve sides on the assets in any country s balance sheet. So I mentioned place where earnings come on the assets side of the countrys balance sheet. These are: i. Oil earnings ii. Diaspora remittance iii. Foreign direct investment iv. Other exports like agriculture v. Customs, NPA, So Govt should focus on those areas that bring in foreign earnings VAT is more about money circulating within the country. Economic advisers should advice our leaders right. |
Politics › Re: River State: Militants Blowing Up Oil Pipeline by djon78(m): 4:24pm On Mar 18, 2025 |
casualobserver: I have told you: the importance of oil right now is forex. And even that has gone down from 95% to less than 50%. Most of govt revenues come from vat and taxes. Perhaps you’ve not been listening that there were months without oil remittances. The Oil sector as a percentage of GDP has gone down from 30% in the 1980s to about 7% today.
Your major significance right now is forex because it still accounts for just under 50%. Atgough still significant, oil is no longer the major source of forex. That alone should tell you the trend. All the major investments are offshore for a reason. You will wake up one day and no one will care whether you blow up a pipeline or not. You will wake up one day and find out the companies have packed up never to return. Already there are no new onshore investments . You will be the ones begging people to repair the pipelines you blew up when you discover all the jobs have gone.
You are important but with every passing day you become less and less important. Enjoy it while it lasts but don’t get carried away with the hype. Companies and investors ar e already making alternative investments devoid of your constant nonsense. I don't agree with what you are saying about income that acrues Nigeria. Claiming Oil is just for forex is a very big lie and delusion Where else does foreign earnings come into Nigeria: i. Oil earnings ii. Diaspora remittance iii. Foreign direct investment iv. Other exports like agriculture v. Customs, NPA, These are the major earnings for Nigeria You see that VAT is just money circulating with the States VAT doesn't really show that the economy is growing. Even US the biggest economy in the world doesn't use VAT Why are Niger Deltans Gov paid derivation funds. Which other State is paid derivation funds? So you guys should stop spreading those unverified information. The only thing that can boost Nigeria's economy is industrialisation. For that to happen power issues must be tackled Then Nigerian industries will begin to produce 1. For our consumption 2. For exports to African countries 3. To the globe Also Agriculture is an area not tapped Nigeria has Nigeria is blessed with 36 million hectares of arable farmland. This alone can lead to massive Agricultural revolution when you factor in mechanization within the entire Agric value chain |

Mumusaphire: But sorry, If court now said they should vacate the sit due to they already decamped , what will happen to supreme judgment ? This is a very very big issue for the judiciary. They must be fair in there dealings. Nigeria copied her Presidential system from the US. If you look at the US, the judiciary plays a major role. For example Donald Trump not going to jail and acquited was as a result of a powerful, unbiased judiciary. Biden administration never liked Donald, but the American judiciary being very powerful and being independent of any interference treated everyone Fair. Nigerian democracy is evolving and we have come to a place where the rule of law must be placed in highest standard. This Rivers State debacle should be followed according to the law, the two warring sides have each made a blunder. So the whole dilemma is still emanating. The wise thing is for the two sides to reach a mediation. But looking into it. The two sides all made errors. So he that must come to equity must come with clean hands. Why I like what is happening is before things were not really done properly now the party in power are doing things based on how it used to be. Now the former guys are feeling the pain. The solution to all these things is justice Truth and equity. The leaders must stop all the mago mago going on. Do things right that will benefit every Nigerian citizen North South East and West. |
