CareerRe: Professional Masters Or Academic Masters? by dmanj: 9:29pm On Jul 03, 2016
lollmaolol:
This will depend solely on the university board acceptance, you might be considered especially if the professional course is closely related with the PhD area of specialisation.

My thoughts gathered from what I've heard professors talked about.
Yea, it also depends on d program because I know in university of ibadan, professional MPH program is equivalent to M.phil and u can progress to do a PhD with it.
CareerRe: Professional Masters Or Academic Masters? by dmanj: 8:52pm On Jul 03, 2016
pls what's now the difference btw MSc in Public Health(which is an academic masters program) and Master of Public Health,MPH (professional masters) ?

for sm1 who wish to play in d public health sector with major NGOs and who intend to get a PhD after that, which is more appropriatehuh

RomanceLanicky's Victory: Victory Against Cyberbullying by dmanj(op):
For the records, I did not follow the contest so keenly from its outset, voted though but knew my vote won’t count. However if it had counted, then it’s obviously a +1 for Lanicky.

That moment when I opened Miss Nairaland Contest and saw the hard and handiwork of God in the affairs (physical features) of babes. After looking at the pictures of all the contestants and reading the response of the phone interview of Mimzy, I just fancied the babe, she exhumed so much confidence, humor and intelligence with great perception about life. She reverberated excellent sense of purpose, ambition, and responsibility for her life. My fingers immediately itched me to go cast my vote for her (though was afraid it wouldn’t count) but on a second thought, I decided to pay attention to detail while giving every contestant-queen equal opportunity to speak to my subconscious mind –at least for the sake of the gender equality bill or according to the very intelligent lady-queen mimzy, the NATIONAL EQUALITY BILL, very intelligent alternative.
After sampling the pics of these contestant-queens, read their autobiography (as it may seem), I just knew LANICKY will at least get my ‘invalid’ vote.
Nevertheless, what influenced me to change my mind swiftly to vote for LANICKY instead of our beautiful MIMZY is what this piece is all about, and I strongly believe it could be the same reason why many voted for her (LANICKY), so tighten your seat belt and let’s ‘sail’ together.
However, before I continue, LANICKYhuh Ehnnhuh, U ARE BEAUTIFUL & INTELLIGENT IN UR OWN RIGHT, AND I MEAN IN EVRY SENSE OF IT, so don’t let any1 deceive u abt d reality of that.
Back to the biz of ds piece is d SIMPLE reason for LANICKY’S victory—SENTIMEMT AND SENSE OF PURPOSE.
Lanicky employed her SENSE OF PURPOSE to her advantage when she used the odds against her –CYBERBULLYING- to whip up sympathy to her favor. She spoke to the innermost being of NL honorable members, eligible voters and non-eligible voters. She appealed to them to see her as a victim of cyberbullying/bashing and to see her victory as a VICTORY AGAINST CYBERBULLYING. She appealed to the subconscious of people to reward her for being steadfast, unmovable and persistent. She appealed to the voters to reward her for coming back in 2016 after losing in 2014 even when there was no ‘REWARD’. SHE SUCCEEDED, HER STRATERGY WORKED.
She understood the politics of whipping up sentiments and sympathy of voters to favor her and ‘ofcos’, something tells me she knew the end justifies the means, though relatively.
Finally she nailed it when she dropped her vision/purpose for wanting to win the crown, I think it was a honorable one, guess that’s why many decided to come to her aid. These are the nails that did the magic:
“why I think I deserve this crown is because I believe my winning will be an inspiration to someone out there to never give up even in the face of adversity. If anyone followed this contest from the outset, one would be forced to see I'm the most castigated and insulted contestant especially because of my looks. Some of the insults were mean and unkind, however I refused to give up in the face of opposition because I believe Miss Nairaland isn't all about looks, its about an inner quality which I possess which is the resilient spirit of a fighter”
“My winning this crown will send a message to ladies everywhere to be themselves and never bow to pressure. Mine will be a face against cyberbullying because I know what it is to be bullied and insulted but that didn't deter me from reaching out for I what set my mind to do.”
“Also it will also pass a message that tenacity pays, failure should not keep you from achieving your dreams. I once contested for Miss Nairaland in 2014 but I didn't win. I came back again this year, determined to dot my t's and cross my I's so when I win that will pass a lesson or two that failure should not keep anyone from striving to go for what they want, especially if its positive. When I first contested, there was no prize money attached but if I win this year, I will go home with a prize, that alone is a lesson that determination pays”.
After reading these, I smiled and knew people will come to her aid because she gave an excellent reason to vote her, a genuine and honorable one—this doesn’t mean other contestants didn’t give good reasons, NO, they all did, but her case was DIFFERENT. At this point, it became a battle against cyberbullying, a battle a lot of voters fought with their votes. That’s the power of appealing to peoples’ sentiment and sympathy. Getting into the head, mind and soul of your audience/respondents, -this case NL online voters- to see a contest as theirs’ and not yours. The power of sentiments in politics, it works like wide fire.
LANICKY congratulations, today you prove one point, “ when anyone want something, all the Universe conspires in helping you achieve it”. NEVER GIVE UP!!!
These are my opinion as to why Lanicky got the crown, though the real winners are Mimzy, Ivvy, Refiner, Mystical etc. U guys all did ur best. Congrats.
Evry1 is free to add your thoughts or why u voted or didn’t vote for Lanicky or any other queen-contestant, guess there’s a lot to learn from this contest.
Harsh words are welcome tho, corrections not excluded.
