The Imo State Police Command has arrested a man who they claimed is an American citizen and self-acclaimed U.S. soldier for impersonation and fraud.

The suspect, identified as Garrick Michael Slack, was paraded on Saturday at the command headquarters in Owerri, the Imo State capital.

The commissioner of Police, Dasuki Galadanchi, told journalists that Garrick specialised in defrauding women with the promise of taking them to the United States of America. The police noted that Garrick deceived his victims by claiming that he is a member of the U.S army.

former military governor of Kaduna State, Colonel Abubakar Umar (rtd), has said that the sack of the Director General of the Department for State Services (DSS), Lawal Daura, is not enough and therefore insists that the Federal Government must investigate him.

In a statement on Friday, Umar said that he (Daura) might constitute a threat to Nigeria’s democracy if the Federal Government fails to investigate him.

According to the former governor, he had in the last three years of leading the DSS created for himself, “a government within a government in Nigeria”.

He therefore stated that the probe should cover the whereabouts, as well as the condition of all the assets handed over to him by the immediate past DG of the DSS, Ita Ekpeyong.

He said: “Without a doubt, the summary dismissal, last week, of Alhaji Lawal Daura, Director-General, Department of State Services, came as a big surprise to many people. It seemed to contradict the world order!

After queueing and loitering around the voting premises for close to three hours, the APC candidate in the ongoing Katsina North senatorial district by-election, Ahmad Babba-Kaita has been unable to cast his vote.

But he vowed he would be ready to offer his blood to win.

Mr Babba-Kaita, a member of the House of Representatives, arrived the Bakin Kasua Primary School, PU 005 at about 12.15 p.m. but by 3.10 p.m. when he left, he had not voted.

He had left the queue after about an hour of standing to sit under a shade, only to return some minutes to 2 p.m.

By 2.49 p.m. when it was just his turn, Mr Baba-Kaita left again to the surprise of electoral officers and dissatisfaction of a PDP agent who fumed at the development.

Addressing journalists, Mr Baba-Kaita harped on the need for the APC to have more senators in the Senate to be able to carry out the manifesto of the party.

He added that he was not worried by the spate of defections within the party.

“The aim of our great party and great president is to make sure we have enough number within the Senate to be able to push for the campaign promises of the APC government and by extension President Muhammadu Buhari.

“I wouldn’t lose my sleep on it (Defections). Not at all. It’s the season. Most of the people decamping, go back to their wards, you’ll find out that their political ward is empty, nearly empty. They don’t have any political value, they don’t have any ticket. The only way they could make noise is to decamp from one party to another.

Kanu Nwankwo’s wife, Amara and his fans have continued to shower encomiums on the football legend who turned 42 on Wednesday.

Oh No! Two Dead As School Bus Full Of Students Crashes Into Dump Truck (Photos)


This was the scene on I-80 near Mount Olive Township in New Jersey on Thursday morning
after a bus carrying 5th graders on a school trip crashed into a dump truck.

At least two people have died including one student and an adult chaperone after a horrific school bus crash in New Jersey, Daily Mail UK reports.

The incident happened at around 10.22am on I-80 Thursday morning near Mount Olive Township.

One adult and one student are being reported dead by NBC and there are many more people injured.

The impact was so severe, the top half of the bus completely tore away from its chassis and went hurtling into the metal barriers on the side of the highway with students inside.

The victims have been taken to at least two different hospitals. 20 ambulances rushed to the scene after the first calls came in.



The bus belongs to East Brook Middle School in Paramus which had a school trip scheduled for 5th graders for the day to Waterloo Village in Stanhope.

Photographs from the crash show children sitting by the side of the road, hugging one another after escaping from the wreckage.

It remains unclear how the crash came about. The bus is from East Brook Middle School in Paramus, New Jersey, ABC reports.

According to the school's calendar, a Grade 5 day trip to Waterloo Village in Stanhope was scheduled for today. Grade 5 children are aged between 10 and 11.



Mount Olive police said it was responding to the incident but would not give further details.

'Crash investigation on Route 80 by mile marker 25.
'Route 80 closed both directions. Westbound traffic being diverted at exit 26.
'Expect heavy traffic and delays on Route 46,' it said. The mayor described the scene as 'horrific'.

At least two of the victims have been sent to St. Joseph's Medical Center in Paterson.

Several others are being taken to Hackettstown Medical Center.

The crash shut traffic in both directions. It remains unclear what the condition of both drivers is.
