The Nigerian police has denied detaining Seyitan Babatayo, the lady who accused singer, D’banj, of rape. https://defensenewsng.com/nigerian-police-denies-detaining-seyitan-who-accused-dbanj-of-rape/ Vanguard reported that a Police source said D’banj reported on three separate occasions at FCID for interrogation and statement, while Seyitan repeatedly refused to show up. Claims that her non-appearance led to the prompt dispatch of officers by the Force CID to Lagos, to invite her for written statement and interrogation on the alleged rape incident. According to the police source, there might be a mix up by the legal representative of Seyitan over claims of being arrested and detained by Police operatives at Ikeja in Lagos for 24 hours. Insists that Seyitan was only invited to give her written statement and also to be interrogated as it was necessary for her to come forward to give a statement to back up her accusation. https://defensenewsng.com/nigerian-police-denies-detaining-seyitan-who-accused-dbanj-of-rape/ |

There was a time I wronged my uncle, my father’s elder brother, who brought me up. On this occasion, my cousin and I had overstayed our specific time on the farm, causing the whole household a lot of panics. We had been instructed not to stay beyond late afternoon at the farmstead, no matter what work we might be doing on the farm. That day, because we were hunting small game, we forgot ourselves. The early afternoon grew into early evening, and then darkness was setting in. The farther into the bush we hunted the more game we caught. We were oblivious of the risks to which we exposed ourselves. Cases of child-kidnapping were rampant then, though we had never had a brush with the child-hunting ritual killers. Suddenly, darkness descended like a dark curtain. It dawns on us that there was someone at home whose rules we had violated. Quickly, we ran home, but it was too late; the whole household had set out to look for us at the farmstead which we had left hours earlier for the bush. Their panic had multiplied by the time they arrived at the farmstead. Getting home, and discovering that only granny was in, we knew we had had it. Meanwhile, my uncle and his luckless team went from one farmstead to another searching for us. When it was too dark for them to find their way around, they bent their steps towards home to plan the next search strategy. But then they found us waiting. The old man was too tired, too angry to beat us. He just stared like the devil at us. Oh! How much that stare froze me! I wished I could just melt away before his eyes. I wished he had taken a whip and thrashed me. But he didn’t! He simply sat in that dark corner of the room, bent double like a tired masquerade. Looking at his pathetic figure down there, I couldn’t bear it any longer, I started crying. It was then that I discovered that my cousin had indeed set the pace only that he had been sobbing quietly. Nairaland / General / Fact You Didn’t Know About Nigerian Security And Civil Defense Corp (nscdc) by DnBoss(m): 3:01am On Apr 22, 2020 |
Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) is a paramilitary institution in Nigeria that was established in May 1967 by the Nigerian Government , with the act of the National Assmebly. The act was amended in 2007, to enhance the statutory duties of the corp. Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps is a para-military agency of the Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria that is commissioned to provide measures against threat and any form of attack or disaster against the nation and its citizenry. The corps is statutorily empowered by lay Act No. 2 of 2003 and amended by Act 6 of 4 June 2007. The Corps is empowered to institute legal proceedings by or in then and of the Attorney General of the Federation in accordance with the provisions of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria against any person or persons suspected to have committed an offence, maintain an armed squad in order to bear fire arms among others to strengthen the corps in the discharge of its statutory duties The NSCDC was first introduced in May 1967 during the Nigerian Civil War within the then Federal Capital Territory of Lagos for the purpose of sensitization and protection of the civil populace. It was then known as Lagos Civil Defence Committee. It later metamorphosed into the present day NSCDC in 1970. On inception, the Corps had the objective of carrying out some educational and enlightenment campaigns in and around the Federal Capital of Lagos to sensitize members of the civil populace on enemy attacks and how to save themselves from danger as most Nigerians living in and around Lagos territory then had little or no knowledge about war and its implications. Members of the Committee deemed it important to educate through electronic and print media on how to guide themselves during air raids, bomb attacks, identify bombs and how to dive into trenches during bomb blast. In 1984, the Corps was transformed into a National security outfit and in 1988, there was a major re-structuring of the Corps that led to the establishment of Commands throughout the Federation, including Abuja, and the addition of special functions by the Federal Government. On 28 June 2003, an Act to give statutory backing to the NSCDC passed by the National Assembly was signed into law by Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, GCFR, the former president and Commander in chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria. What are the primary duties of the Nscdc? The primary function of the NSCDC is to protect lives and properties in conjunction with Nigeria police . Answer all questions in your answer sheets SECTION A: COMPREHENSION Instructions: There is a passage in this Section, and it is followed by questions. From the four options lettered A to D given in each question, choose one which most accurately reflects the meaning of the passage, and shade your answer sheet accordingly. PASSAGE I WHERE HAVE ALL THE FORESTS GONE? Deforestation has serious consequences. it leads to soil erosion which was an underlying cause of Ethiopia’s famine. Crops of maize are planted on 45 degrees slopes without terraced. Within three or four seasons, the topsoil has been washed away by the torrential rains, and the hill is useless for farming. Another consequence is more subtle forests held on to moisture and are essential factors of rainfall through transpiration. Extensive deforestation may have exacerbated the drought in Africa: fewer forests mean less rainfall and desertification. For the key and pushed down on the lower, flatter bush country its chances of successful farming are little better. Here the soil is dry as dust; it needs careful management if it’s to produce food. But the newly arrived shamba farmers don’t have the experience to farm effectively. There isn’t enough rainfall down here to grow more. So, it has to be more hardy grains like millet and sorghum. In years of severe drought, even those grains do not produce a good harvest and malnutrition in these areas is an increasing problem. The real energy crisis is in wood, not oil. Trees are falling faster than nature or man is replacing them. This drier land is really much better suited to grazing cattle or goats, but it’s so easy to overgraze. When the sparse vegetation is made even sparser, the topsoil is liable to blow away. Soil erosion on the marginal land is as bad as on the hills. QUESTIONS 1. Deforestation has had serious consequences in Africa. One of such is __. A. Soil erosion B. Ethiopia’s famine C. Torrential rainfall D. Drought 2. Another less obvious but serious consequence of deforestation is ___ A. drought B. drought and desertification C. less rainfall D. soil erosion 3. Which of these is not true according to the passage. A. Torrential rains render the hills useless for farming B. Extensive deforestation intensified drought in Africa C. Grains like millet and sorghum are more suitably grown in drought seasons D. The sparser the vegetation, the easier it is for the top soil to be blown away 4. Which of these is true according to the passage. A. The fast felling of trees is causing real energy crisis B. Chances of successful farming are better on the higher than the lower lands C. Soil erosion is worse on the hills D. The shamba farms have the experience of farming on the lower country 5. Which of these words can be used in place of ‘’exacerbated’’ A. aggravated B. lessened C. worst D. alleviate PASSAGE II The passage below has gaps numbered 6 to 15.
