ACT 5 SCENES 1

(Patrick’s house: he is dressing up for an occasion, he moves to and from the sitting room as he dresses up, two teenage boys are in the sitting room with him)

Patrick: boy! Emeka, how do I look?

Emeka: Uncle you are good to go! You know you are the best dressed man in the world! You can never get it wrong.

Patrick: (Pleased with himself) mekus mekus! You are my man! Thank you!

Emeka: But Uncle today is Sunday! Are you going to work today?

Patrick: my Boy! Where do People go to on Sunday mornings?

Second Boy: Church! Uncle, are you going to Church?

Patrick: (Laughs) Onyekachi are you surprised? Even me I am surprised too , but that is the truth, someone is inviting me to church today!

Onyekachi: then it must be a woman!

Patrick: kachi! Are you a prophet? This must have been revealed to you by the holy spirit! You are right my boy!

Emeka: Uncle, no one needs a spirit to know that only a woman can make you do unusual things.

Patrick: what is unusual about going to church?

Onyekachi: nothing ordinarily! But for you it is very unusual! I have never seen or heard of you going to church. So which Church is she taking you to?

Patrick: I don’t know o! But Church na Church I beg! Any one she takes me to is okay by me.

Onyekachi: This woman must be a good woman, but I feel sorry for her.

Patrick: sorry for her? Why nah kachi?

Onyekachi: because you will soon spoil her, she will start doing like the other women you go out with, those women that dress half naked and drink a lot.

Patrick: Am I that bad? Kachi!

Emeka: Uncle, you are bad but I love you! I want to be like you!

Patrick: Mekus! Don’t let your mother hear that from you o! else you will never come here for holidays again. Hope you guys don’t tell her all you see here?

Emeka: No Uncle, I am a guy nah!

Patrick: My Guy, my guy! Give me a high five joor!

Onyekachi: uncle, I would like to go to Church with you!

Emeka: me too Uncle

Patrick: oya oya! Go and take your bath and dress up before my wife arrives!

Emeka and Kachi: your wife?

Patrick: Go and bath and dress up joor! (Kids scamper out of the sitting room, Patrick begins to whistle and dance to the tune as he knots his tie) Baba! Baba Cook! (He calls out. An elderly man walks in dressed as a Chef) Baba please do you have a bible?

Baba: Of course sir, I have three Bibles, what do you need a bible for sir?

Patrick: I am going to church

Baba: For wedding anniversary or what?

Patrick: Baba, please give me a bible is all I ask of thee!

Baba: Okay which version do you prefer?

Patrick: What do you mean by which version? And what are you doing with three bibles?

Baba: I have a “king James version” the “new international version” and the “new American Bible”!

Patrick: What are you doing with American Bible? What of new African bible?

Baba: Nothing like new African Bible sir, though we have bible translated into some African languages.

Patrick: Baba please give me a Bible that I can read and understand! Any Bible would do! Imagine only you having three bibles while I have none! Are you a pastor?

Baba: I will get you the new international version, it is easier to comprehend.

Patrick: Thank you! Just give me a Bible! (Baba exits, there is a knock at the door)

Clara: Mama, you drink alcohol?

Mama: Yes my dear, do you want some? You can mix it with the malt you know, it is a nice blend!

Clara: no o! I don’t want, thank you.

Mama: A little alcohol is good for an old Lady once in a while, more over, I am happy with what my Son has done today. Cheers! (They cling glasses together) to long life! And to good health!

Patrick: Mama,Clara’s father is a Major general in the Army

Mama: wao! It would be nice to have another military in-law in the family, one of my daughters is married to a naval commander. Well so you see the more reason you have to treat Clara right!

Patrick: What do you mean mama?

Mama: If you make her cry and she cries to her Dad, be sure that some unknown Soldiers will visit you, and if you want to know what unknown soldiers can do , go and listen to Fela Anikulapo’s Album “Unknown Soldier”

Clara: (Laughing) ha! Mama! No more unknown Soldiers o! We are in a democratic era now.

(Ngozi approaches and stands before mama)

Mama: Ngozi ogini kwanu? What is the matter?

Ngozi: Madam Bukola and her daughter are around.

Mama: Okay let them in, em em, which of the daughters is she with?

Ngozi: That fine yellow one wey dey follow Oga Patrick.

Patrick: (Jumps up) Chai! It is Iyabo o!

Clara: (Laughing) Another victim of yours abi?

Patrick: (pacing to and fro) Why are they all visiting you today na mama? Or is this a set up?

Mama: it is a coincidence! Ngozi please let them come inside. (Ngozi leaves)

Patrick: mama please I will be inside the room, Clara please come with me! ( He turns and walks briskly towards the room, Clara stands up to follow him)

Mama: Coward! Clara, sit down there! Is this the kind of man you want to get married to? A coward, that runs off when a difficult situation confronts him? How long is he going to keep running? (Patrick turns mid way and returns)

Patrick: Mama I am confused! And this Iyabo is a mad girl! I don’t want anything like embarrassment for Clara!

(Enters Mrs Bukola and her daughter Iyabo. Iyabo rushes towards Patrick and jumps on him, hugging and kissing, Patrick is reluctant, Iyabo steps back with shock at Patrick’s coldness, and she looks coldly at Clara)

Mama: Where are you from my dear and what do you do?

Patrick: She is from (Mama Cuts in)

Mama: Let the lady speak! Patrick. (Patrick raises his hand in surrender)

Clara: I am from ebem in Ohafia Local government area of Abia state ma

Mama: hmm, Ohafia! Strange People, your people are more attached to the maternal lineage than paternal lineage; you have well to do and influential people in Ohafia, so who is your Parent?

Patrick: Haba Mama! Is this a job interview or what? Take it easy nah!

Clara: My father is in the Army while my Mother is a medical Doctor at a Military Hospital in Jaji Kaduna

Mama: Wao! Far away, Kaduna? So why are you in Lagos?

Patrick: hey! Mama it’s okay, it is okay, you cannot know everything about her in an hour, won’t you entertain her? You just sat her down interrogating her like a suspect instead of showing her some hospitality!

Mama: Oh sorry my dear! My bad! (She stands up) what would you like my dear? Alcohol, or soft drink?

Clara: Soft ma

Patrick: And Alcohol for your Son o! (Mama Exits) well, that is my mother for you; she can quiz you for hours till saliva dries in her mouth.

Clara: So what is with you and the woman that just left angrily?

Patrick: oh mama Ada? Ada and I used to date that’s all, all my Mothers friends wanted me to marry their daughters. The truth is that my elder ones all married daughters and Sons of our family friends but I dare to be different. It is a resolution I made long ago.

Clara: hmm pat I am getting scared o! My parent do not know your parent, would your Mother accept me? What are my chances?

Patrick: Don’t worry my dear, do not try to impress my mother, in any way, she hates high service so just be your normal self, I know she will like you else I would have tutored on what to say and how to act before her but I did not do that because you are a natural. Anyone who does not like you is definitely not well.

(Enters Mama and Ngozi with a tray containing two Chilled bottle of Amstel Malta and Heineken beer and two glass cups. Ngozi drops the Tray on the centre table and exits) mama the mama! So you have not forgotten my brand of beer? Mama you are too much!

Mama: All my Sons and their father drink Heineken beer! My dear hope you don’t mind Amstel malta?

Clara: It is actually my favorite drink ma, because of the low sugar content. Thank you, ma.

Mama: but do you take alcohol sometimes my dear?

Patrick: This one? For where? Mama, Clara is a born again Christian o!

Clara: no ma! I don’t do alcohol at all.

Mama: o yeah! You are born again? So what are you doing with a devil like my Son? Do you want him to corrupt you?

Clara: (Laughs) Well, mama sometimes I ask myself the same question, but he has promised to change and he is trying.

Mama: And if he does not change, what will you do?

Clara: If he does not desist from womanizing, I will leave him!

Mama: Even after the marriage?

Clara: even after the marriage ma!

MamasadMama Collects the malt and a glass from the tray and places on a side stool by Clara, she opens the crown cork while Patrick collects the bottle of Heineken, opens the cork and drinks straight from the bottle) I like you, I like your guts and you confidence! You remind me of myself when I was your age. Patrick is just like my husband, his father, very adventurous with the ladies, he smokes, he drinks and he womanizes, I had several competitors but he eventually settled for me.
Patrick will change, just like his Father did, but it all depends on you!

Clara: me? How ma!

Mama: Let him always have a reason to come back home after work, make yourself sexually attractive to him always, look at me! (She stretches out her hands and looks herself over) who would believe I am over seventy years of age? The funniest thing is that I do not even feel seventy! I feel like a thirty year old Lady. If he loves beer, then make sure you always have beer in the refrigerator, if you do not cook well, get a catering lesson and improve on your cooking, use good deodorants and perfumes so that your smell will always linger in his mind even when you are not there. Make it a duty to know his friends and their wives invite them over for meals occasionally and visit them too.
I will not advise you to be a nag even though you do not look like one but sometimes it is necessary to nag so as to get their attention. Excuse me please
(Mama walks towards the Bar cabinet and pours herself glass of brandy. Clara looks at Patrick and Chuckles)

SELF ASSESSMENT

As I stretched and yawn
Welcoming the break of dawn
I heard the crowing Cock
As I hasten to set for work

For a stitch in time
They say saves nine
And early to bed
They say early to rise

I know there is much ado
In the work I do
But it is all I have for now
So I have to make it count

I rather would take this cup
That comes with a cost
Than wait for free mirage
That is ever at large
For a bird at hand
They say worth ten at large
I will build on what I have
For what is mine is mine

I do not envy, I do not pry
The load is heavy, to lift I must try
For the journey of a mile
They say starts with a step

I see light beyond the tunnel
I see silver around the dark cloud
I see light after dark
I see gain beyond the pain

So my pain is for my gain
My groan is for my own
My ache is for my break
My hay I will make by day.

Iya wa! Our Mother! Baba faced our Mummy, Ifa greets you again, he says what has happened has happened, he who hath an ear let him hear! Ifa says you will not weep over any of your Children again, he says you should not be far from Iyawo and the triplets, they are destined to be great, one of them is a replica of his father, he will always remind you of Ayo but he will not die young, he will follow his father’s footsteps in learning and career pursuit so do not discourage him if he tell s you tomorrow that he wants to join the Army, let him have his way on decisions concerning his future. Iyawo, this message is for you too.
Tell my friend the Prof to go and see his Doctor for his health is failing him; he should not complicate issues for us by dwelling so much on Ayo’s death.

The game is up for your friend and her Daughter! Baba continued: the Igbo girl they plotted to kill has survived and our Son has died instead. It is time for retribution, they will be coming to you to beg, but how do you beg someone to forgive you for deliberately killing her Child? How do you beg a woman that you are sorry for deliberately killing her husband leaving her with three children and a hollow in her life?
But they will come to you and it is left for you to decide whether to forgive or not!

Oshi! Rubbish! Mummy shouted: what nonsense! Do they have conscience at all? They the blood of my Son avenge his death, nobody should come and beg me at all, ahan? Is it by force? What did I do to Iya Dupe for God’s sake? Wo! Look! Iyawo mi, do not listen to any body that comes to beg you o! Mummy said to me: in short now I am angry! I have been controlling myself from confronting Iya Dupe since I lost Ayo simply because I do not have anything to prove in court or at the Police station! But if she dares come to me and confess to having a hand in my Son’s death, ha! Baba I will sting her! I will bite! Haaa!! Mummy was shaking from head to toe as she pranced about the Sitting room. So now, they are afraid to die abi? After killing my son, you are begging to live! In short Baba, till then, till then.

Baba was about to speak and Mummy interrupted: arrant nonsense! What guts? What impunity? I a a Yoruba Woman o! Baba, I am a Yoruba woman and I know what I should have done! I only remained calm because I do not want any problem for my other Children and now my grand Children, I do not want the consequence of anything I do to fall on them, which is why I left Iya Dupe for God o! Now that God is about to fight for me she wants to come and beg me, in fact I am leaving Ife! I am going with these Children to Enugu t take care of the triplets, she will look for me, and she will not see me. Ha Iya dupe! O pami lomo! You killed my Child! A child that gave me the name “Iya Doctor” mother of Doctor! A Child that gave me the name “ Iya Major” Major’s mother! A Child whose name command respect everywhere me and my husband goes, you just killed him off like a common chicken! May God judge you o! I do not want to curse you because you are cursed already, and I will not soil my hands with evil for your sake! Iya Dupe and Dupe! I stand before the presence of Ifa today and hand your case over to him! Mummy eventually sat down and started to cry profusely.

Iya Ayo, take it easy, the odds are against your enemies already, Baba said. Ese o Baba! E o pe fun wa! You will live long for us o! Mummy opened her purse and brought out some naira notes for Ifa, we all did the same, we dropped it on Baba’s Bead, he said it is Ifa’s so we should drop it for Ifa. Ifa thanks you! He called out as we trooped out of his House.

Enugu

Mummy resigned from her Lecturing job, she said it was high time she left paid employment and do her own thing. She started setting up structures and certification process for a private School. She joined us a week at Enugu to tend to her grand Children, but for her I do not know how I would have coped with three babies without any prior experience. She said she had helped uncountable number of Women to tend their babies from Child birth to three month old. I learnt how to bath babies the traditional way and the modern way, the traditional way seems crude but she said it is most effective and makes the baby stronger.

The twisting of the babies arms and legs, the usage of hot water to massage the healing navel, she advised me to stop crying when the babies are crying out of pain from the hot water used in bathing them, she was everywhere, in the kitchen, she was something else too, she had her own style of cooking and I allowed her to do things her own way even though I am a caterer. She helped in bathing me too and massaging my stomach with hot water, she said it will expel residual blood from my body and also help my wound to heal fast, even though Mummy has a Doctorate degree, she did not let go of some conservative practices, she is an advocate of preserving our cultural heritage and practices.

Life without Major was so lonely. I was just an ordinary struggling girl of twenty when we met. I was planning on establishing my fashion outfit then and he took over my life and expanded it beyond my expectation, we had managed our businesses together and we had grown our business empire to an enviable status, even though we are not a public company, we were doing just too well.

Now he is no longer around, I wake up in the mornings thinking of where to go and where not to go. Do I go to the super market where Aunty Carol works? We have competent managers there and they send me daily transaction reports, do I go to Derby Couture? Tochi and Amara are doing a wonderful job taking care of business there or do I go to Derby’s Plaza at Trans Ekulu? The Manager is on Top of his Job and Silvia takes care of the premises and all my tenants there. Major’s Clinic is under lock and key for the time being until I know what to do with it. So I simply sit and home and chat with Mummy or watch movie, life was so boring, I felt so empty, I longer had any desire to work or live, I was simply empty, a huge void has been created into my life, I longed to see Ay in my dreams but he never came, most nights I cry myself to sleep only to wake up in the middle of the night when I hear the shrill cry of the babies.

.....................................................................................................................................................................................................

Lest I forget, the first move we made when we got to Enugu was to type a termination of appointment letter for Mr. Maduka, I went to Nedu’Express and presented the letter to him in the presence of Junior and some of the Staff members, as chairman of the board of Nedu Express your services are no longer needed, there is a cheque of three million naira in the envelope, that will take care of any inconveniencies this decision of ours might cause you, I said, as I handed him the envelope. He collected it, said a thank you and went straight to his office to pack his things.
Musa! Can you read and write? I asked.

Haba Madam, I go am for secondary school fa! I stop for class three, I dey read English and I sabi write am.

So why you no sabi speak am? I asked;

Madam I can spoke English but not very corrected fa! He said:

Okay no vex! No speak English again, just dey speak the pidgin wey you dey speak, you hear?

No problem madam, he said.

Ladies and gentlemen! From today Musa is the new Manager of the Enugu branch of Nedu Express! I announced. Everywhere was quiet; if a needle had dropped on the floor of Chinedu’s office the sound would have been audible.

Madam which Musa I dey talk about I beg? Musa asked looking behind to see if there was a stranger in our midst.

Take! I said, open am!

As I offered him his appointment letter. He opened it, read it for a while and looked at me and Chinedu, he went down on his Knees and worshipped Allah the Muslim way, then he sat down by the door and started to cry, speaking incoherent Hausa. Other staff members stood motionless because none knew what other surprise I may bring. I told the others to go about their duties.

We then contacted an audit firm to help look into the accounts and the procedures in the company, Musa brought another of his Hausa brother to take his place as security officer. The house we built for Mr. Maduka was left for him as a parting gift but his Children were withdrawn from Chinedu’s scholarship scheme.

...............................................................................................................................................................................................

Aunty Carol always spent her weekends with us, the House is a bee hive of activities on Sundays after Church service, I have resorted to going to Church now, and I am Catholic. Mummy also had introduced the culture of morning devotion into the house, she rings a bell at 5:30am and we all assemble at the sitting room to share the bible and pray, it was not funny initially but I got used to it and started looking forward to it..

On Sundays, Chinedu comes home with a friend or two; sometimes he comes with female friends, Amara and Tochi, Silvia, Aunty Carol, Cordelia (If not on duty). Ehen! Cordelia! Did I mention that she is pregnant? Cordelia got pregnant the next month after we returned from Ife, she called me up one afternoon and asked where I was, I told her I was at home and she said “Don’t go nowhere till I get there! You and mama! And the phone went dead, when I told Mummy what Cordelia said, Mummy smiled and said thank God.

I did not understand until her car screeched into my compound and she dashed out beaming from ear to ear, Derby you can’t believe it! She ran and hugged me, then she hugged mummy, she held onto Mummy rocking her while Mummy was smiling knowingly and patting her back. Congratulations! Mummy said, derby I am pregnant! I screamed, I ran towards her and hugged her, I looked her over and hugged her again, Baba Ifa! Mummy, please call baba Ifa and thank him! Cordellia said, there is no need my dear, no need, when next you want to visit Ife, you can buy him a gift, he knows you are pregnant already. I will tell him though when next we speak on phone.

Ha! I have never seen this kind of thing in my life! Cordellia said: Mummy do you know that I asked my husband about the woman he was seeing and he did not deny it? He said he thought he was impotent, he said he went for medical tests secretly and was certified okay but whenever he is with me he cannot perform so he tried it with his secretary and he performed well. So what happened? I asked. My dear, that night it was war on bed between me and my husband, we made repeated love till day break, none of us went to work the next day because we slept off in the morning, babe! I never knew what I have been missing from Stanley, it was fire for fire! We all laughed our hearts out, at that moment, in a split second, I remembered love making with Major and my body quivered.

The next week I went to his office when he traveled for a Course and made trouble with his secretary, I promised her I would kill her. So when my husband returned from his course the lady resigned, she told my husband that she does not want to die yet. My husband was not even angry with me because he had been thinking on how to severe the relationship with her.

So have you told your husband about your pregnancy now? Mummy asked. Of course nah! Ha! He was the first person I called o! He is in Germany on training now but will be back in two months, he was screaming like someone who has won a jackpot; he wished he was here with me, but no wahala, he will return safely, ha! Mummy, Derby! She went on her knees: how can I thank you enough?

So how is the other man now? I asked:

The other man has gone! So is the other woman! We are free now! She replied.

We all laughed heartily again till the cries of the babies waking from sleep sent us back into the house while Cordellia drove back to work.

As I was saying before Cordellia’s topic came up, our house takes a party mood on Sundays, there is always enough to drink and eat and music to dance to, Mama would make sure everyone had something to eat and drink, she joined in doing all the chores and when we tried to stop her she objected so over time we allowed her to do as she wished, after four months of Ayo’s burial, things started to take shape one more in my life, my Babies were six months old and have begun to crawl about the house, Mummy went to Ife and came back, she went to see Prof as well as see to the School project.

She told me that Mama Dupe had run mad in Ife after openly confessing her deeds. Mummy had changed her phone number upon leaving Ife for Enugu and had instructed Daddy to tell anyone that asks for her number that it is the same old number she uses. She was told that Dupe’ Mother had looked for her everywhere asking people of her where about until she got frustrated and confessed openly at a popular Market square where she loosened and tossed her dresses away before running into the wild naked. The family members eventually found her and she is currently receiving treatment at an herbalists. Those whom the gods want to kill, they first make mad! So Mummy said.

do you know how many of these ladies have lied to me about being pregnant for me? Only to tell me that they have miscarriages after some months simply because I was not talking marriage! Even a call girl I picked from the club on a certain day came back to me after three weeks that she had missed her period! Imagine o! A call girl that I paid for her service and we parted ways also wants to be my wife! How can I sleep with a call girl without using a condom? I told her it was not possible because I used a Condom, Condom surround me everywhere, in my car, in my house , even in my wallet, she thought I was dead drunk and would not remember if I used it or not, not me! I have never been so drunk that I will lose my sanity!

Clara: Patosky! Patosky! I like you! I am not afraid of your exploits, in fact it amuses me as to how you could be so vain and adventurous yet so truthful and honest and I know you are smart too. You are such a naughty bad boy!

Patrick: Clara, that is in the past now! Please (he takes Clara’s hand and went on his knees) please save me, save me from myself! I beg you in the name of all that you hold sacred! Help me to reshape my life, it is not going to be easy sha but I am ready to do anything you want, please come into my life and save my soul, I have had enough of fun for a life time, I will try and drop all those bad habits, please try and manage me till I turn a better man please Clara.

Clara: Please stand up pat! I will try my best, but you have to be serious about it, I do not want it to seem as if I am choking you

Patrick: Please Clara! Choke me!

Clara: Choking you will mean entering your space, scolding you when you err, it may even lead me to disrespect you!

Patrick: Clara! Please enter my space! Enter me anyhow and anywhere! It is for my own good! But please come and save me from myself, you are the only one who can do it

Clara: okay pat, let us give it a trial and see how it goes!

Patrick: so is that a yes?

Clara: what do you mean? Yes to what?

Patrick: Marry me Clara! (He goes down on his knee again) please marry me! I am sorry I do not have a ring to propose with but I can always get one later, I may not be saying this in the right environment, I mean a place with flowers, wine and candle light, but this moment can never be more right for me because right now I feel so convinced that you are the woman for me, Clara please do not say no! Marry me and let us shape our lives together! I beg you! Please forgive my imperfections! Erase any negative impression you have of me, from this moment onwards, no more women! Look! Look! ( He brings out his two Phones, uncouples it and removes the Sim Cards, he breaks the Sim Card into several pieces and hands over the pieces to Clara) bye bye! to old contacts, old things are passed away, Clara, take my Phone and replace it with new Sim Cards, Clara I love you! I love you! Jesus! I have never done this in my life, I have never said that to any woman in my life! Clara please marry me (He stands up and hugs Clara crying) Clara you have turned me into a little boy! I cannot control myself any longer, this is not me o! Clara what have you done to me?

Clara: (Pulls him closer) I will marry you! I will be there for you; together we shall make it work!

Patrick: (Screams for joy, and gives her a long kiss) yeah! I am married! I am married to the best woman in the world! Lord I thank you! Thank you lord! (He lifts Clara up and spins her round till they both fell on the couch) I get to call my family now! Where is my phone? I need to tell them to expect us this weekend! Sweet heart how is your weekend like? Can we go to my parent’s house next weekend? Please!

Clara: (Laughing) You have destroyed your Sim card nah! Pato take it easy nah! Yes we can go see your parent next week end.

Patrick: (Jubilant) Thank you my Baby! Oh my God! I can’t imagine the reaction from my Mother when I eventually bring a girl home; she got tired of expecting me to do that so many years ago! My dear, this calls for a celebration! Let’s go out, let’s go somewhere nice and cozy and celebrate today,

Clara: hmm, that can wait till tomorrow, for now I just finished cooking and I have a lot to do in the house.

Patrick: we! Clara we have a lot to do in this house (He jumps about excitedly, pulls off his shirt and drops on the Couch while Clara stares at him) oya! Oya! Give me the broom! You can go and be tidying up the Kitchen! (He begins to sweep the room dancing and humming Sunny Neji’s Oruka, Clara runs into the Kitchen laughing)

Lights fade.

Clara: Oh! That’s my dad!

Patrick: Your dad? An Army Officer? How? What rank is that on his shoulder?

Clara: he is a major general! He is the Commandant at the Command and staff College jaji, kaduna!

Patrick: My Gawd! Jeez! Clara! Your father is a major general in the Army and we do not know? Your father is a major general and you are so simple and unassuming?

Clara: Oga knows nah!

Patrick: So Oga knows? No wonder he is so protective of you!

Clara: is he?

Patrick: is it not obvious? Can’t you see how he sent me off to Macaulay because of you?

Clara: come to think of it, I think the Macaulay move is a nice one; office affair is not too good.

Patrick: Yeah, yeah, but Clara, how come you are so humble? If my Father were to be just a colonel, kai! Kai! Kai! The world will know!

Clara: What of if I tell you that my dad owns seventy percent of our company?

Patrick: (Stunned, he stands rooted to the spot with mouth agape) It’s a lie! Tell me you are joking!

Clara: what is the name of the Managing director?

Patrick: the M.D? Mr. Njoku Kalu?

Clara: what is my surname?

Patrick: yee! Clara Kalu, Kalu! Don’t tell me! The M.D is your elder brother?(Clara nods her head .He collects the Maltina bottle and empties the content into the glass, then he drops it on the table) baby, I need a glass of beer! Or a stick of …of (Clara cuts in)

Clara: A stick of cigarette?

Patrick: No o! I don’t smoke o! I mean I don’t smoke again!

Clara: when did you stop? Today?

Patrick: Clara! Who are you? You make me feel nervous and humbled, when I am with you , I try to be civil, you have this effect on me that I do not understand! Now you are worsening my situation by this revelation of your family status! Your father is an Army general! He owns Capital communications! The M.D is your elder brother! Then why are you just a senior supervisor?

Clara: the M.D started as a supervisor! He rose through the ranks have you forgotten?

Patrick: Oh yes o! It is true. But Clara (She excuses herself and dashes off, Patrick went to face the Picture and saluted) shun sir! So you are my Oga at the top? What will you do to me if I break your daughter’s heart? Hmm, I can imagine what you will do, but how come your Children are so humble? I duff my heart for you! (Clara comes back and hears Patrick talking)

Clara: Who are you speaking with Pat?

Patrick: (taken aback) I am talking to your Dad! What will he do to me if I break your heart?

Clara: Will you break my heart? I do not think so!

Patrick: But that is your fear nah! Isn’t it? The fear that I may use and dump you!

Clara: No Pat! That is not my fear; in fact I have no fear of you at all. Let me tell you a little about myself. I grew up not wanting anything, I grew up in comfort and affluence, my parent has money and power but they never trained us to act it, they were disciplinarians! I could have married long before now because I have had several acquaintances, but most of them know my parent and as such I do not like them because they were not real.
They were all after my family’s wealth, so I frustrated them with excuses till they left. I am not in a hurry to get married, I will settle down when I meet the kind of person I want. I like you because you did not like me! At least you made me know that I am not your kind of Woman, you made me to know that you are a Casanova, a very worldly person, you were plain! No pretenses! You are from a well to do family and you do not lack and that is why you seem not to have cares in the world except to satisfy your habits, you love to be free like the birds. My last relationship was with a pastor at the Church I worshiped before moving to this part of Lagos. Even as a Pastor, he wanted sex from me, I declined, he asked if I was a virgin and I told him I am not so he was angry that if I was not a virgin, then why should I deny him of sex? I told him he was a Pastor and I do not want to lead him astray. He promised he would marry me but he needed to sleep with me first! I did not oblige so he left me and started frolicking with a fellow Sister in the Church who was close to me, I was shocked the day the lady told me that she knew I was not a virgin, she told me there was no big deal in sleeping with a man that would marry me if I am sure I love him and he loves me too, I told her I do not love him.
My mother came to visit me once and we went to church together, during testimony time my mother went and testified of God’s goodness to our family and mentioned my father’s new appointment thereby saying some things that revealed my family status. The pastor came to my house that evening and started singing a different tune, he preached against sex before marriage and said several things before he knelt down and proposed to marry me!

Patrick: he must be a Cow!

Clara: well, that is a purported man of God for you; I simply walked out on him after telling him what the other Sister told me. So Pato! I do not like fake people, the devil you know is better that the angel you do not know.

Patrick: Clara! You are the one I have been waiting for all my life! It is not that I do not want to settle down too but all the babes I have been dating worship me! They will lick my shoes if I ask them to! Any lady I start a relationship quickly wants to rush me into marriage once they know of my family back ground!
I hate women telling me to come and see their parent, simply because they feel I am from a wealthy home. See your parent for what? Are you the one to initiate the move or me? That is what I tell them before I run away! Then they begin to tell the world that Patrick has broken their hearts. The thing is that they love the way I spend money on them, I spend carelessly because as old as I am, my mother pays me salary twice what the company pay me monthly, I ran away from managing her company because all the Daughters of her friends want to marry me, I slept with all of them then one day I packed my things and left the house when I got this job with Capital communications. I wanted to start afresh but I could not because these ladies easily finds me out by my spending habit.

Act III SCENES II

(Clara’s apartment: she goes to and fro, cleaning the apartment as well as cooking in the Kitchen, she has a broom and a waste packer handy. She wears a short pant and a polo shirt that stops above the navel. There is a knock at the door)

Clara: Yes! Who’s it (She goes for the door and opens, Patrick steps inside) you are welcome Pat, sorry am like this, I am cleaning up and cooking,(Patrick looks her up and down and grins from ear to ear) what are you staring at? And take out that boyish grin from your face!

Patrick: Jeez! I have not seen such pair of legs in my entire life! How come you don’t flaunt this? (Points at Clara’s legs) look at your tummy too! Flat like Lizards!

Clara: (laughing) Please stop it! You have come again o! Please make yourself comfortable while I see to what I am cooking.

Patrick: Can I come along?

Clara: (Stares at his suspiciously) Patrick! Make yourself comfortable, go and sit down there (Points at a Chair)

Patrick: Please nah! I can help out in the Kitchen o! I am a very good cook!

Clara: You? What can you do in the kitchen? (She turns and heads for the kitchen while Patrick tags along, she pushes him back gently to the sitting room) sit down there, I will be back! (She rushes to the Kitchen, she returns with a bottle of Maltina and a glass Cup) hope you do not mind maltina?

Patrick: I mind! I have taken some beer already!

Clara: Hmm, shayo master! I trust you! So how many bottles did you drink?

Patrick: Just one!

Clara: ( Laughing) Pato, Pato! You cannot drink only one bottle nah! A whole you? Well sha, what brings you to my humble abode today? You sounded worried on the phone.

Patrick: I had an altercation with my friends while drinking so I left the table angrily, I could not go home because I needed someone to talk to, so I called you.

Clara: so what caused the problem between you and your friends? (She opens the Maltina, poured some into the glass cup, she takes a sip and put the glass to Patrick’s mouth) oya drink small nah, there is love in sharing, and today is your first day in my house so don not refuse me!

Patrick: Refuse you? How can I? You have not offered yourself to me nah! So how can I refuse you? Try me and see if I will refuse you!

Clara: Don’t be naughty! I mean do not refuse the drink I am offering you!

Patrick: Oh that? Okay let me take a sip (he collects the glass and gulps all of its content) I have not tasted malt drink in over twenty years! Clara can you imagine my friends call me akpa behind my back?

Clara: Akpa? What does it mean?

Patrick: it is a slang used for someone that spends stupidly, a foolish rich person! You know the saying : A fool and his money are soon parted? That is an akpa for you!

Clara: Wao! That’s harsh o! Which of your friends called you that?

Patrick: Actually I did not hear anyone call me that to my face, but Samuel, a colleague at Macaulay told me some bitter truth today, he is the one that told me that everyone in our clique thinks I am irresponsible, in fact I felt so ashamed and angry!

Clara: Excuse me please (She stands up and dashes to the Kitchen)

(Patrick stands up and walks about the sitting room, admiring the furniture and electronics, he saw a photo frame of a military man in uniform hanging on the wall, he was staring at it when Clara re enters)

Patrick: Who is this man in Army uniform?

21. POLICE STORY
A police officer pulled over a driver and informed him that because he was wearing his seat belt, he had just won $5,000 in a safety competition. "What are you going to do with the money?" the officer asked. The man responded, "I guess I'll go to driving school and get my license." At that moment, his wife, who was seated next to him, chimed in, "Officer, don’t listen to him. He's a smart aleck when he's drunk." This woke up the guy in the back seat, who, when he saw the cop, blurted out, "I knew we wouldn't get far in this stolen car." At that moment, there was a knock from the trunk, and a voice asked, "Are we over the border yet?"

22. GOOD HEALTH

The couple was 85 years old, and had been married for sixty years.

Though they were far from rich, they managed to get by because they watched their pennies. Though not young, they were both in very good health, largely due to the wife's insistence on healthy foods and exercise for the last decade.

One day, their good fortunes didn't help when they went on a rare vacation and the plane crashed . . . sending them off to Heaven.

St. Peter greeted them as they reached the pearly gates. He took them inside to a beautiful mansion, furnished in gold and fine silks, fully stocked kitchens and a waterfall in the master bath. A maid could be seen hanging their favorite clothes in the closet.

The couple gasped in astonishment when St. Peter said, "Welcome to Heaven. This is your home now."

The old man asked Peter how much all this was going to cost. "Why, nothing," St. Peter replied. "Remember, this is your reward in Heaven."

The old man looked out the window to see a championship golf course, finer and more beautiful than any ever built on Earth. "What are the greens fees?" mumbled the old man.

Bemused St. Peter said, "This is heaven. You can play for free, every day."

Next they toured the clubhouse and were shown the lavish luncheon buffet, with every imaginable spirit and cuisine laid out before them. Reading the ol' Man's eyes St. Peter interjects, "Don't even ask. This IS Heaven, it is all free for you to enjoy."

The old man looked around and glanced nervously at his wife. "Where are the low fat, low carb, low cholesterol foods? Decaffeinated tea?"

"That's the best part," St. Peter grinned. "This IS Heaven. You can eat and drink as much as you like of whatever you like, and you will never get fat or sick!"

The old man is now anxious, "Is there a gym to work out at?" "Not unless you want to," was the answer.

"No testing my blood sugar or blood pressure or . . .”

"Never! Again. All you do here is to enjoy yourself."

The old man glared at his wife . . . "You and your bran muffins. We could have been here ten years ago!"

23. SMART HARRY
A first-grade teacher, Ms. Brooks, was having trouble with one of her students. The teacher asked, 'Harry, what's your problem?'

Harry answered, 'I'm too smart for the 1st grade. My sister is in the 3rd grade and I'm smarter than she is! I think I should be in the 3rd grade too!'

Ms. Brooks had enough. She took Harry to the principal's office.

While Harry waited in the outer office, the teacher explained to the principal what the situation was. The principal told Ms. Brooks he would give the boy a test. If he failed to answer any of his questions he was to go back to the 1st grade and behave. She agreed.

Harry was brought in and the conditions were explained to him and he agreed to take the test.

Principal: 'What is 3 x 3?'

Harry: '9.'

Principal: 'What is 6 x 6?'

Harry: '36.'

And so it went with every question the principal thought a 3rd grader should know. The principal looks at Ms. Brooks and tells her, 'I think Harry can go to the 3rd grade'

Ms. Brooks says to the principal, 'Let me ask him some questions.'

The principal and Harry both agreed.

Ms. Brooks asks, 'what does a cow have four of that I have only two of?'

Harry, after a moment: 'Legs.'

Ms. Brooks: 'What is in your pants that you have but I do not have?'

The principal wondered why she would ask such a question!

Harry replied: 'Pockets.'

Ms. Brooks: 'What does a dog do that a man steps into?'

Harry: 'Pants.'

The principal sat forward with his mouth hanging open.

Ms. Brooks: 'What does a man do standing up, a woman does sitting down and a dog does on three legs?'

Harry: 'Shake hands.'

The principal was trembling.

Ms. Brooks: 'What word starts with an 'F' and ends in 'K' that means a lot of heat and excitement?'

Harry: 'Fire truck.'

The principal breathed a sigh of relief and told the teacher, 'Put Harry in the fifth-grade, I got the last five questions wrong.

Paddy: Seven!

Teacher: No, listen carefully again. If I give you two rabbits and two rabbits and another two rabbits, how many rabbits have you got?

Paddy: Seven!

Teacher: Let's try this way. If I give you two apples and two apples and another two apples, how many apples have you got?

Paddy: Six.

Teacher: Good. Now if I give you two rabbits and two rabbits and another two rabbits, how many rabbits have you got?

Paddy: Seven!

They got out into the middle of the lake, and the Optimist brought down a duck. The dog immediately, and amazingly, walked out across the water, retrieved the duck, and walked back to the boat.

The Optimist looked at his Pessimistic friend and said, "Now... what do you think about that!?"

The Pessimist replied, "That dog can't swim, can he?"

She asks a student, 'Michael, if you were on a date, having dinner with a nice young lady, how would you tell her that you needed to use the bathroom?'

He responded, 'Just a minute, I have to go pee.'

The teacher replied, 'That would be rude and impolite! What about you John, how would you say it?'

'I am sorry, but I really need to go to the bathroom, I'll be right back.'

The teacher responded, 'That's better, but it's still not nice to use the word bathroom at the table. And you Peter, how would you show your good manners?'

Peter said with a smile, 'I would say: Darling, may I please be excused for a moment, I have to shake hands with a very dear friend of mine, whom I hope you'll get to meet after dinner.'

Two married buddies are out drinking one night, when one turns to the other and says, "You know, I don't know what else to do. Whenever I go home after we've been out drinking, I turn the headlights off before I get to the driveway, shut off the engine and coast into the garage. I take my shoes off before I go into the house, sneak up the stairs, get undressed in the bathroom, ease into bed and my wife still wakes up and yell at me for staying out so late!" His buddy looks at him and says, "Well, you're obviously taking the wrong approach. I screech into the driveway, slam the door, storm up the steps, throw my shoes into the closet, jump into bed, slap her on the butt and say, 'You as Hot as I am?' and she always acts like she's sound asleep!"

His wife glares at him and says, "Who the hell was that?"

"Oh," replies the husband, "she's my mistress."

"Well, that's the last straw," says the wife. "I've had enough, I want a divorce."

"I can understand that," replies her husband, "but remember, if we get a divorce it means that you don't get any more shopping trips to Paris, no more wintering in Barbados, no more summers in Tuscany, no more Ferraris and Lexus's in the garage and no more yacht club. But the decision is yours."

Just then, a mutual friend enters the restaurant with a gorgeous babe on his arm.

"Who's that woman with Jim?" asks the wife.

"That's his mistress," says her husband.

"Ours is prettier," she replies.

I got to eat all the ice cream and jello I wanted for two weeks!" "Oh yeah?" replied Tim. "That's not half-bad. Hey Sammy, how about you? What're you here for?" "I'm getting a circumcision, whatever that is," Sammy answered. "Oh my God! Circumcision? I got one of those when I was a baby and couldn't walk for two years!"

"Bet you $10 he won't," replied the second. Then, the guy on the television closed his eyes and threw himself off the bridge. The second guy hands the first his money.

"I can't take your money," said the first guy. "I cheated you. The same story was on the five o'clock news."

"No, no. Take it," said the second guy. "I saw the five o'clock news too. I just didn't think the guy was dumb enough to jump again!"

A farmer in Arkansas and his wife were lying in bed one evening. She was knitting, he was reading the latest issue of Animal Husbandry. He looked up from the page and said to her, "Did you know that humans are the only species in which the female achieves orgasm?"

She looks at him wistfully, smiles, and replies, "Oh yeah? Prove it."

He frowned for a moment, then said, "O.K." He then got up and walked out, leaving his wife with a confused look on her face.

About half an hour later he returned all tired and sweaty and said, "Well, I'm sure the cow and sheep didn't, but the way that pig squealed, it was hard to tell."

A woman comes home and tells her husband, "Remember those headaches I've been having all these years? Well, they're gone."

"No more headaches?" the husband asks, "What happened?"

His wife replies, "Margie referred me to a hypnotist. He told me to stand in front of a mirror, stare at myself and repeat, 'I do not have a headache, I do not have a headache, I do not have a headache.' It worked! The headaches are all gone."

The husband replies, "Well, that's wonderful."

His wife then says, "You know, you haven't exactly been a ball of fire in the bedroom these last few years. Why don't you go see the hypnotist and see if he can do anything for that?"

The husband agrees to try it. Following his appointment, the husband comes home, rips off his clothes, picks up his wife, and carries her into the bedroom. He puts her on the bed and says, "Don't move, I'll be right back."

He goes into the bathroom and comes back a few minutes later, jumps into bed, and makes passionate love to his wife like never before. His wife says, "Wow! That was wonderful!"

The husband says, "Don't move! I'll be right back." He returns to the bathroom and then goes back to the bedroom, and round two is even better than the first time. The wife sits up and her head is spinning.

Her husband again says, "Don't move, I'll be right back." With that, he goes back into the bathroom.

This time, his wife quietly follows him and there, in the bathroom, she sees him standing in front of the mirror, saying, "She's not my wife. She's not my wife. She's not my wife."

His funeral services will be held on Monday.

1. INSULT ON I NJURY

A woman got on a bus holding a baby. The bus driver said, "DAMN! That's the ugliest fuckin' baby I've EVER seen!"

In a huff, the woman slammed her fare into the fare box and took an aisle seat near the rear of the bus. She fumed for a few stops and started getting really worked up. The man seated next to her sensed that she was agitated and asked her what was wrong.

"The bus driver insulted me!" she fumed.

The man sympathized and said, "Hey! He's a public servant and he shouldn't say things to insult the passengers."

"You're right!" she said. "I think I'll go back up there and give him a piece of my mind."

"That's a good idea," the man said. "Here, let me hold your monkey!"

2. IT HAS STARTED
A man comes home from an exhausting day at work, plops down on the couch in front of the television, and tells his wife, "Get me a beer before it starts."

The wife sighs and gets him a beer.

Fifteen minutes later, he says, "Get me another beer before it starts."

She looks cross, but fetches another beer and slams it down next to him. He finishes that beer and a few minutes later says, "Quick, get me another beer, it's going to start any minute."

The wife is furious. She yells at him,

"Is that all you're going to do tonight? Drink beer and sit in front of that TV? You're nothing but a lazy, drunken, fat slob, and furthermore . . ."

The man sighs and says, "It's started."

3. FOOLISH ROBBER
A man walked into a Circle-K, put a $20 bill on the counter and asked for change. When the clerk opened the cash drawer, the man pulled out a gun and asked for all the cash in the register, which the clerk promptly provided. The man took the cash from the clerk and fled, leaving the $20 bill on the counter. The total amount of cash he got from the drawer? Fifteen dollars.

If someone points a gun at you and gives you money, was a crime committed?

4. DRUNKEN LADIES
Two women friends, incredibly drunk and walking home got caught short. They were very near a graveyard and one of them suggested they do their business behind a head stone or something.

One of them had nothing to wipe with so she thought she'd take off her panties and use them, then throw them away. Her friend however was wearing a rather expensive underwear set and didn't want to ruin hers but was lucky enough to salvage a large ribbon from a wreath that was on one of the graves and proceeded to wipe herself with that. They then made off for home.

The next day one woman's husband phoned the other husband and said "We'd better keep an eye on our wives you know, mine came home last night without her panties."

"That's nothing" said the other "Mine came back with a card stuck between her ass that said 'From all the lads at the fire station. We'll never forget you'."

5. CORRESPONDING PUNISHMENT

Three guys were on a trip to Saudi Arabia. One day, they stumbled into a tent filled with over 100 beautiful women. They started getting friendly with all the women, when suddenly the sheik came in. "I am the master of all these women. No one else can touch them except me. You three men must pay for what you have done today. You will be punished in a way corresponding to your profession."

The sheik turns to the first man and asks him what he does for a living. "I'm a cop," says the first man. "Then we will shoot your penis off!" said the sheik.

The sheik then turned to the second man and asked him what he did for a living. "I'm a fireman," said the second man. "Then we will burn your penis off!" said the sheik.

Finally, he asked the last man, "And you, what do you do for a living?" And the third man answered, with a sly grin, "I'm a lollipop salesman!"

6. PROFESSIONAL COUPLE

A husband and wife were at a party chatting with some friends when the subject of marriage counseling came up.

He communicates real well and I just act like I'm listening."

7. COPY CAT

George and Laura Bush and Bill and Hillary Clinton are traveling by train to the Super Bowl. At the station George and Laura each buy a ticket and watch as Bill and Hillary buy just one ticket. "How are the two of you going to travel on only one ticket?" asks George W, astonished at what he is seeing. "Watch and learn," answers Hillary. They all board the train. George and Laura take their respective seats but Bill and Hillary cram into a toilet together and close the door. Shortly after the train has departed, the conductor comes around collecting tickets. He knocks on the toilet door and says, "Ticket, please." The door opens just a crack and a single arm emerges with a ticket in hand... The conductor takes it and moves on. The Bushes see this happen and agree it was quite a clever idea, so after the game they decide to try a similar plan on the return trip. When they get to the station, they see the Clinton's at the window buying a single ticket for the return trip. To their astonishment, the Clinton's see that the Bushes don't buy any ticket at all. "Aren't you taking a terrible chance by traveling without a ticket?" says Hillary. "Live and learn," answers Laura Bush. When they board the train the Bushes cram themselves into a toilet and the Clintons cram into another toilet just down the way. Shortly after the train leaves the station, George W. leaves their toilet and walks over to the Clinton's toilet, knocks on their door and says, "Ticket, please." And you're still trying to figure out how the Democrats lost that election.

8. ACCADEMIA

Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson go on a camping trip, set up their tent, and fall asleep. Some hours later, Holmes wakes his faithful friend.
"Watson, look up at the sky and tell me what you see."
Watson replies, "I see millions of stars."
"What does that tell you?"
Watson ponders for a minute. "Astronomically speaking, it tells me that there are millions of galaxies and potentially billions of planets. Astrologically, it tells me that Saturn is in Leo. Time wise, it appears to be approximately a quarter past three. Theologically, it's evident the Lord is all-powerful and we are small and insignificant. Meteorologically, it seems we will have a beautiful day tomorrow. What does it tell you?"
Holmes is silent for a moment, and then speaks. "Watson, you idiot, someone has stolen our tent."

9. THE MIX UP

When the ark's door was closed, Noah called a meeting with all the animals and said in a demanding voice:

"Listen up kids! There will be NO sex on this trip. Not even the wetting of the tip of your penis. All of you males take off your joysticks and hand them to Jim the Monkey. He will write you a receipt. After we see land, you can get your penis back."

After about a week, Mr. Rabbit ran over to his wife and very excitedly said, "Quick! Get on my shoulders and look out the window to see if there is any land out there!"

Mrs. Rabbit got onto his shoulders, looked out the window and said, “Sorry, no land yet."

"Shit!" shouted Mr. Rabbit and out he went.

This went on every day until Mrs. Rabbit got fed up with him. "What is the matter with you? You know it will rain for forty days and nights. Only after the water had drained will we be able to see land. But why are you acting so excited every day?"

"Look!" said Mr. Rabbit with an impatient look on his face as he held out a piece of paper. "I GOT THE DONKEY'S RECEIPT!"

10.
A husband and wife were driving down a country lane on their way to visit some friends. They came to a muddy patch in the road and the car became bogged. After a few minutes of trying to get the car out by themselves, they saw a young farmer coming down the lane, driving some oxen before him. The farmer stopped when he saw the couple in trouble and offered to pull the car out of the mud for $50. The husband accepted and minutes later the car was free. The farmer turned to the husband and said, you know, you're the tenth car I've helped out of the mud today. The husband looks around at the fields incredulously and asks the farmer, when do you have time to plough your land? At night? No, the young farmer replied seriously, Night is when I put the water in the hole.

11. LAWYER VS POPE
A lawyer and a Pope died and arrived at the gates of heaven at the same moment. They spend the day in orientation, and as they're getting their heavenly vestments, the Pope gets a plain white toga and wings, like everyone else, and the lawyer gets much finer apparel, made of gold thread, and Gucci shoes.

Then, they get to see where they're going to live. The Pope gets what everyone else gets, a replica of a Holiday Inn room, and the lawyer gets an 18-room mansion with servants and a swimming pool.

At dinnertime, the Pope receives the standard meal, a kosher TV dinner, but the lawyer receives a five-course meal including caviar, prime rib and chocolate truffles.

By this time, the lawyer is beginning to suspect that an error has been made, so he asks one of the angels in charge, "Has there been some kind of mistake? This guy was the Pope, and he gets what everyone else gets, and I'm just a lawyer and I'm getting the finest of everything?"

The angel replied, "No mistake, sir. We've had lots of Popes here, but you're the first lawyer we've ever had."

WHY DO WE NEED FRIENDS?

We need friends for many reasons, all throughout the four seasons.

We need friends to comfort us when we are sad, and to have fun with us when we are glad.

We need friends to give us good advice. We need someone we can count on to treat us nice.

We need friends to listen to outo solve them.

We need friends because we are social in nature and having friends makes us feel secure.

We need friends to remember us once we have passed sharing memories that will always last.

That's why I need YOU!

15. MY DEAR JAGJIT,

I am in a well here and hoping you are also in a well there.

I'm writing this letter slowly, because I know you cannot read fast.

We don't live where we did when you left home.

Your dad read in the newspaper that most accidents happen 20 miles from home, so we moved 20 miles.

I won't be able to send the address as the last Sardar who stayed here took the house numbers with them for their new house so they would not have to change their address.

Hopefully by next week we will be able to take our earlier address plate here, so that our address will remain same too.

This place is really nice. It even has a washing machine, situated right above the toilet. I'm not sure it works too well. Last week I put in 3 shirts, pulled the chain and haven't seen them since.

The weather here isn't too bad. It rained only twice last week. The first time it rained for 3 days and second time for 4 days.

The coat you wanted me to send you, your Aunt said it would be a little too heavy to send in the mail with all the metal buttons, so we cut them off and put them in the pocket.

Your father has another job. He has 500 men under him. He is cutting the grass at the cemetery.

By the way I took Bahu to our club's poolside. The manager is Badmash. He told her that two piece swimming suit is not allowed in his club. We were confused as to which piece should we remove?

Your sister had a baby this morning. I haven't found out whether it is a girl or a boy, so I don't know whether you are an Aunt or Uncle.

Your uncle, Jetinder fell in the nearby well. Some men tried to pull him out, but he fought them off bravely and drowned. We cremated him and he burned for three days.

Your best friend, Balwinder, is no more. He died trying to fulfill his father's last wishes. His father had wished to be buried in the sea after he died. And your friend died while in the process of digging a grave for his father.

There isn't much more news this time. Nothing much has happened.

Love Mom.

P.S: Jagjit, I was going to send you some money but by the time I realized, I had already sealed off this letter.

16. LOCKED IN THE CLOSET

A housewife takes a lover during the day, while her husband is at work. Unbeknownst to her, her 9 year old son was hiding in the closet. Her husband came home unexpectedly, so she hid her lover in the closet.

The boy now has company.

Boy: "Dark in here." Man: "Yes it is." Boy: "I have a baseball." Man: "That's nice." Boy: "Want to buy it?" Man: "No, thanks." Boy: "My dad's outside." Man: "OK, how much?" Boy: "$250."

In the next few weeks, it happens again that the boy and the mom's lover are in the closet together.

Boy: "Dark in here." Man: "Yes, it is." Boy: "I have a baseball glove." Man: "How much?" Boy: "$750." Man: "Fine."

A few days later, the father says to the boy, "Grab your glove. Let's go outside and toss the baseball." The boy says, "I can't. I sold them." The father asks, "How much did you sell them for?" The son says, "$1,000."

The father says, "That's terrible to overcharge your friends like that. That is way more than those two things cost. I'm going to take you to church and make you confess." They go to church and the father alerts the priest, and makes the little boy sit in the confession booth and closes the door.

The boy says, "Dark in here." The priest says, "Don't start that sh1t again"

17. HALF SISTER

One Sunday morning William burst into the living room and said, "Dad! Mom! I have some great news for you! I am getting married to the most beautiful girl in town. She lives a block away and her name is Susan. After dinner, William's dad took him aside. "Son, I have to talk with you. Your mother and I have been married 30 years. She's a wonderful wife but she has never offered much excitement in the bedroom, so I used to fool around with women a lot. Susan is actually your half-sister, and I'm afraid you can't marry her." William was heart-broken. After eight months he eventually started dating girls again. A year later he came home and very proudly announced, "Diane said yes! We're getting married in June." Again his father insisted on another private conversation and broke the sad news. "Diane is your half-sister too, William. I'm awfully sorry about this." William was furious! He finally decided to go to his mother with the news. "Dad has done so much harm. I guess I'm never going to get married, “he
Complained. "Every time I fall in love, Dad tells me the girl is my half-sister." His mother just shook her head. "Don't pay any attention to what he says, dear. He's not really your father."

18 BLONDE IN FIRST CLASS

A beautiful young blonde woman boards a plane to LA with a ticket for the coach section.
She looks at the seats in coach and then looks ahead to the first class seats. Seeing that the first class seats appear to be
much larger and more comfortable, she moves forward to the last empty one. The flight attendant checks her ticket and tells
the woman that her seat is in coach.
The blonde replies, "I'm young, blonde and beautiful, and I'm going to sit here all the way to LA."
Flustered, the flight attendant goes to the cockpit and informs the captain of the blonde problem. The captain goes back and tells
the woman that her assigned seat is in coach.
Again, the blonde replies, "I'm young, blonde and beautiful, and I'm going to sit here all the way to LA."
The captain doesn't want to cause a commotion, and so returns to the cockpit to discuss the blonde with the co-pilot.
The co-pilot says that he has a blonde girlfriend, and that he can take care of the problem. He then goes back and briefly
whispers something into the blonde's ear.
She immediately gets up, says, "Thank you so much," hugs the co-pilot, and rushes back to her seat in the coach section.
The pilot and flight attendant, who were watching with rapt attention, together ask the co-pilot what he had said to the woman.
He replies, "I just told her that the first class section isn't going to LA.

19 TWINS

After landing my new job as a Wal-Mart greeter, a good find for many retirees, I lasted less than a day...... About two hours into my first day on the job a very loud, unattractive, mean-acting woman walked into the store with her two kids. She was yelling obscenities at them all the way through the entrance. As I had been instructed, I said pleasantly, 'Good morning and welcome to Wal-Mart. Nice children you have there. Are they twins?' The ugly woman stopped yelling long enough to say, 'Hell no, they ain't twins. The oldest one's 9, and the other one's 7. Why the hell would you think they're twins? Are you blind, or just stupid?' So I replied, 'I'm neither blind nor stupid, Ma'am, I just couldn't believe someone slept with you twice. Have a good day and thank you for shopping at Wal-Mart.

LiteratureRe: ANOTHER WEDDING.......A Play (sequel To Just Wedded) by DOMAWOLEYE(op):
What happens to truth? Pure affection! (He turns to face Patrick) do you think marriage is a contract you can hurriedly seal while standing there? Do you think it is like going to the Boutique to buy a designers jeans because every Tom, Dick and harry is buying it? Fa fa faa, fao! Not my Clara!

Patrick: (Hysteric) Oga what do you people want from me nah? What do you want me to do? I said I will marry Clara and you started comparing her to Jeans in the Boutique!

Mr. Ayo: Is that how you propose to a woman? With all your education and exposure, you stand before us and challenge us that you will marry Clara! You did not even show any respect to her! Who the hell do you think you are? Whatever makes you think that she will agree to marry you if you propose to her now? Because you are a fine boy, abi? The thing is that none of you here knows this girls back ground, if not you will not take her for granted!

Charles: Pato, you need to take things easy, it’s a gradual process, you see, you have to first (Patrick cuts him short)

Patrick: Shut up your mouth! Oga dey talk, you sef dey talk? Chai! I don die! I don die! Look at you that just wedded barely four months ago coming to advise me! You that could not control your Wife, was it not Oga here that advised and counselled you. Your wife simply pulled some stunts on you the other day and you came to work sick and whimpering! (Charles cuts in)

Charles: but I have experience, even though it was tough initially but I overcame (Patrick cuts in)

Patrick: Overcame what? See overcomer! Which experience did you say you have? Four months experience? (Charles opens his mouth to speak) shut up! Shut up Mr. Four month’s experience! When I started dealing with women, you were still in primary school, so keep your four months marriage experience to yourself! Woman never show you pepper before, that’s why you dey talk anyhow!

Mr. Ayo: Patrick cool down! I will ask everyone here one question! What is the best way to overcome your fears?

Chorus: You face the fear! Tackle it!

Mr. Ayo: That’s the Spirit, whatever situation you are scared of will always be larger than you until you tackle it and you will see yourselves overcoming and taming the situation. So Mr. Patrick Kalu, tackle your fears! (He walks out of the office; Clara picks her bag and begins to walk out of the office)

Patrick: Baby where to?

Clara: (faces him squarely) to hide my face from the shame and humiliation you just brought upon me! How could you Patrick? Do I look so desperate that you could boldly stand up there and boast that you will marry me anytime and anyhow at the snap of your fingers? (She runs out crying)

Patrick: (Confused) Shuo! Make una see me see trouble o! When did I say such a thing? Can you guys see what Oga has caused now?

Charles: Bros follow her quickly and apologies sharp! Sharp! Instead of standing there and asking us yeye questions!

Patrick: (Looks at Charles with scorn) na true o! (He runs out after her, but stops mid-way to stare at Charles, he gives him a thumps up) Four months experience! (All laughs)

Charles: Bros! I dey fear for this kind relationship o! The two of them no fit each other at all!

Yusuf: why do you say so?

Charles: Patrick is a confirmed bad guy and Clara is a saint, it’s like “beauty and the beast”

Yusuf: And what happened at the end of beauty and the beast? Love was established abi?

Charles: I don’t know o, I have not seen the movie, I only hear people using the phrase “Beauty and the Beast” when comparing good with bad.

Yusuf: This Patrick you see is a very nice person; he has a very good heart and will not hurt anyone on purpose. The problem is that he has been free for too long, he is the last born pf his parent and he has numerous nieces and nephews that his parent do not bother him for grand Children. They still see him as the little last born of yesterday! He has rich elder ones that saw him through school like their own Children, so no one bugs him for anything.

Charles: no wonder!

Yusuf: He is afraid of commitment, which is his problem because he has never been committed to anyone, so he does not need a woman of his kind as a wife but someone like Clara. A cool headed and disciplined lady like Clara , Patrick knows what he needs in a woman but he has not found any of his numerous women marriage worthy, marriage is like magnetic force, Like terms repels while unlike terms attracts. Clara needs to help him change gradually.

Charles: men! It won’t be easy for her o! But I wish them the best (Patrick pops his head through the door)

Patrick: Guys! We are going on lunch break, please we will be back in an hour, and charley, thanks for the advice, it worked! Chai! Four months experience! (All laughs as he closed the door)

Mr. Ayo: Mr. Patrick Kalu will be reporting at Macaulay Branch on Monday on a permanent deployment (The scream escapes Clara’s mouth before she realized it) what? Why are you screaming Clara?

Clara: Nothing Sir! I am so sorry sir! I didn’t know when it escaped my mouth! I am sorry (Other staff covers their mouth to suppress laughter)

Mr. Ayo: Clara! I am sending Patrick to Macaulay so that I won’t be there when he breaks your heart
(Clara was shocked, she opens her mouth to speak but no sound came out) yes! I know! And I am surprised and disappointed in you! You are too good for this Guy! Please make sure he does not sleep with you until he is ready to settle down with you o! I love you so much that I do not want Patrick to add your name to the list of women he has conquered. Do you understand me? Or has he slept with you already? Because I won’t be surprised if he has!

Clara: yes sir! Sorry, No sir! Thank you sir!

Patrick: Oga! With due respect sir! I will surprise all of you here! What’s the big deal in settling down sef? After all, all of you here are married and you are not dead yet. I promise you. You all will be at my wedding this year!

Mr. Ayo: To whom?

Patrick: To Clara of course!

Mr. Ayo: Oh! So you want to marry her just to prove a point abi? (Looking at Clara) my dear, do you hear what Mr. Casanova is saying? He wants to experiment with you! He wants to marry you simply because the rest of us are married and we are not dead! He wants to marry you in other to prove us wrong! Is that supposed to be a reason for marriage? What happens to love? What happens to respect?

LiteratureRe: Restless...story Of A Survivor. by DOMAWOLEYE(op):
Thank you sir, em em what about this other woman sir?

Baba looked into oblivion and said: The other Woman will go when the other Man goes!

Baba called my name and consulted Ifa, after the usual ritual of chanting and tossing of beads he said I should wipe my face with the palm of my hands thrice; I did as he instructed, and he then stared at my face as if he was looking for a ripe pimple to burst. What more is there to be scared of when the most dreaded has happened? He asked no one in particular: twenty Kids can never play together for twenty years! He continued: No! They will eventually scatter! Each to forge his own destiny!

Ifa greets you once again my daughter, Ifa says you should move on with your life , do not worry about how to move on without your husband, do not worry for nature takes care of her own, there is no injury that cannot be healed, it is only a matter of time, except if that wound comes with death. Ifa says you should concentrate on taking care of the children and those that look up to you! Continue to do well and impart positively on people, you will not be lonely for too long, you shall have more children, I see you surrounded by many Children!

At this juncture, I interrupted Baba: ha! Baba! More Children from where nah?
You will have more Children when the time is ripe and your wound is fully recovered, it will come so natural that you will not feel any guilt, it is your destiny my Daughter! I see the triplets, bathing and playing with their younger ones, the Triplets will be much older than them.

Mama and those around me were smiling while junior was suppressing laughter by covering his mouth, I looked round the room, even Cordellia gave out a chuckle, I stared at them one after the other in silence wondering on the possibility of having more Children. I do not doubt Ifa though but the possibility seemed too bleak. Baba! I said, the least of my worries now is another man or more Children, I think I have had my fair share of both in my life.
He laughed and said: My dear iyawo, you will not question it when it happens, it will come so natural because by then, you will be ready to move on with your life, your responsibilities will be so much at that time that you would willingly share your life with a partner once again, your second husband, the man I see is a childhood friend of yours, but I cannot say more than what is revealed to me now because he is still far away and the time is not yet at hand, as I speak the man is not in this Country, he is busy pursuing education in foreign lands, when he returns home, he will locate you.

You have a little snag you must be wary of in your family, Baba said. Your elder Sister here will be helpful in handling this wolf in your family before she destroys all of you, the person in question is her friend and believes she is still as evil as she used to be, I am talking of your other sister that has a Child in your custody. She lives like a dog now and thinks like a sheep, she is unnecessarily envious of you and your brother and is capable of hurting you people, she has made up her mind to bring you people down.

Who would that be? Mama asked me. She is my father’s second born ma! The mother of Paul, the little boy that follows Junior about.

She will come around very soon,Baba said: she will come with trouble. But I forewarn you, in all she will do, never trade words with her or get physical with her, she has a curse on her already and she is looking for whose head to hang her death! Death? I almost screamed out.
Yes! Death! It is the path she has chosen, she prostitutes and she has been used for ritual by one of her clients, she has limited days to live, she is long gone!

Aunty Carol lay on the floor and cried, ignoring Baba’s warning against crying in the presence of Ifa. I told Junior to take her outside, I could not cry, my feeling was indifference. Baba continued, your elder sister will try and talk to her, she will try and help her but this lady will not heed your sisters advice else she can still live, she is at war with everything good around her. But it is good she dies, this will liberate her Son from her poisonous influence, so do not have any rancor with her so that her son will not grow up with the notion that you have a hand in his mother’s death!

Ifa says your future is bright; you are a blessing to those around you. Ifa has spoken!

Junior and Aunty Carol came back to join us, Aunty Carol had developed catarrh; I threw a handkerchief to her from my purse.
Baba looked at Junior, he told him to look to the heavens with arms spread upwards, he then told him to wipe his face with his hands.
You are thinking of travelling out of the county for studies abi? Baba asked Chinedu: Yes sir! Edu replied: I have gotten admission into the University of Liverpool!

Baba shook his head sadly: You do not have the grace my Son! Your road to success is in your father’s land. I see a man standing by you, he works for you, he is involved in helping you secure this admission, and he is light in complexion and thick set in build, who is he? Baba asked

That is my Manager, he is a very reliable Man, and he has a younger Sister that lives in Liverpool!

Baba shook his head sadly again and said: “The one we called to help scratch our back, has thorns in his hands” “the one we called to blow specks out our eyes, has pepper in his eyes” “A little Child cannot decipher an evil concoction from vegetable soup”!

My dear Son! That your manager has it all planned, you told him about you political ambition didn’t you? Yes sir, he is my right hand man sir! He even advised me to go and study abroad so as to boost my political image, he did all the admission processes for me, Chinedu said.

Ha! Ile aye le! This world is tough! Ifa reveals that you will travel abroad; this right hand man will give you a parcel for the Sister there, this parcel! This parcel will send you to incarceration for life! You will rot in prison abroad! You would have handed everything about all your businesses to him by then!

I got up and followed mama as we both dashed to the convenience, I came out to see Chinedu crying by the door and talking: Baba! Where did I go wrong? This man was a jobless man that came to me for help some years ago when he was deported from overseas; he was a family man with five mouths to feed, I employed him!
This man monitors everything about my business after I recruited him, he gives me information about everything going on in the business, by so doing , he earned my trust, baba! I built a three bed room flat for this man o! I put his three Children in the list of orphans in my scholarship scheme. Oh Jeez! Jeez! What a life! So Mr. Maduka wants to send me on exile and take over my business?

I went to my Brother to console him; I gave him my shoulder to lean on. Baba continued: you are needed here now more than ever, your business; your family needs you, if you leave your business in the hands of strangers, it will crumble within a year, and they will enrich themselves and wreck you! All those that surround you in the name of friends and employees see you as not worthy of being their Boss because of your age and educational back ground!
The only employee that is loyal to you is the Hausa man that knew you as a Child, this is what I will advise you to do, elevate the Hausa man! He does not speak their language so he cannot connive with them to wreck you, in fact they will wonder at what has come over you, the right hand man of your will be issued a sack letter by your Sister Deborah here, just tell him you do not trust him anymore.

He will go without making any trouble because he has stolen enough from you without you knowing. When he leaves you start discovering loopholes he created through which he had been siphoning money, for now, he is just waiting to hear that you have entered the flight to Liverpool.

Oh my God! Chinedu sobbed. Baba continued: My Son, you have been blessed already, you will travel abroad like someone going to his back yard, if you want to eat breakfast in America and dinner in Nigeria, you can afford it, you will do business with people of different races, you are a very big fish! So take it easy, do not be overly ambitious so that you do not fall into the trap set by your enemies

All these were strange to me, I now realized that Chinedu and I have not really gisted like brother and Sister as we used to since I returned from the land of the dead: Junior, ihe a nile, o bu eziokwu? Are all these true? I asked.Aunty! O bu eziokwu o! It is true! He replied

Clara: I can discuss with my pastor to organize a prayer session for you.

Patrick: How long have you been born again Clara?

Clara: for about sixteen years now, since I was sixteen years old then and I just got admission into the university then. I got converted in the first semester, but I came from a religious back ground also.

Clara: Good! Now listen to me, I do not have and have never had any physical manifestation of evil Spirit troubling me, I am just an average sinner, what I should need is salvation and not deliverance! I am a demon myself so another demon cannot possess me else.

Clara: (Laughs) you are a demon? I beg o!

Patrick: So when did you graduate from the University?

Clara: Twelve years ago!

Patrick: Ha! As young as you are? Wahala dey o!

Clara: What wahala?

Patrick: You graduated twelve years ago and with your entire “holier than thou” attitude you have not married, either from the Church or outside of it! Are all your pastors or Church brothers blind?

Clara: Are you mocking me Pato? God’s time is the best Pato!

Patrick: okay o! Keep fooling yourself and be living in the fool’s paradise! You know the problem with you Churchy people? You pretend a lot! You refuse to remove the speck in your eyes while running about to remove that of others! I am sure you must have attended series of deliverance programs all in the name of looking for a husband; you must have denied yourself of food in the name of paying and fasting just to get your Mr. right, all this you did to no avail but look at yourself now, you are in a beer parlor flirting with me, a confirmed sinner, Mr. Casanova, a proper bad guy! What would you say to your God now? Has he failed you? What will your pastor say if he walks in here now and sees you sitting with a beer drinker in a beer parlor of all places!

Clara: pat, I am not flirting with you! I told you what I like in you.

Patrick: What you said you like in me are not good attributes that makes a good husband, you said I am cute and I dress well, that’s all! I have heard that from a thousand women!

Clara: Pat, what is your point please?

Patrick: You are getting frustrated! You feel you have waited too long without getting the kind of Man you want so you decided to settle for whatever comes handy, I am your last card! I begii! Please drink your malt o! What would you like to eat? Suya, Nkwobi or isi-ewu?

Clara: Nothing! I am okay with the malt

Patrick: Pretender! I know you love isi-ewu so much! You have mentioned it severally in the office and when I called you out this evening, you said you had not eaten.

Clara: ( covers her face with her hands) okay I want Isi-ewu.

Patrick: (calls out loud) Barman! (Bar man rushes towards them) get us two plates of Isi-ewu and make sure all the spare parts are intact! The tongue, ears and the eyes, even the brain, I want to see it, you hear me?

Bar Man: Loud and clear sir! (He dashes off)

Clara: Patrick! You are too free and open minded, you will be a good Christian!

Patrick: I am safer and better than most of you folks that parade yourselves as born again Christians because I know my problem and I am not ashamed to admit it. I drink and I womanize, that’s all, okay I tell a little lie here and there, everyone does that, even the pastors. But one thing I hate most in my life is pretense and white lies, it puts me off! Two things that has kept me this far in life is my balls and my word! I do not flinch! If I tell you this is white, then you can take it to the bank as white.

Clara: Pat, I do not want you to think that I am cheap or something, I am also not taking you as my last option, no! I like you and I think I can learn a lot about the real world from you, you can also learn about the ideal world from me. But you cannot be taken as option B by any woman because you have got all the physical attributes any woman desires in a man.

Patrick: You are going to disturb my life Clara! I am not ready to be entangled in a serious relationship now because I know that you are not the “One night stand” kind of woman! I just want to be free!

Clara: Free till when pat? Pat you are almost forty!

Patrick: Life begins at forty!

Clara: Pat. All your friends are married and making babies, I do not know any of your friends who are not married. Look at Charles that just joined the company two years ago, a boy you trained, he is now a married man.

Patrick: I know one!

Clara: Who?

Patrick: you do not know him! He is a Catholic priest!

Clara: Can’t you be serious for once Pat? Catholic priests do not marry!

Patrick: Okay it’s you! You are not married and you are my friend!

Clara: I am not your Friend, I am your colleague, and we met at work.

Patrick: to me you are more than a friend

Clara: What am I?

Patrick: Let me whisper it into your ears (Patrick gets up and walks toward Clara, he made to whisper into her ears but his mouth found its way to her mouth. The bar man brings the Plate of Isi-ewu and stands by, waiting to set the table)

(Clara and Patrick are seated at a “Table for two” setting at a bar, Patrick has a bottle of Heineken beer in front of him while Clara sips with a straw from a bottle of Amstel Malta)

Clara: patrick, why do you like beer?

Patrick: You! Why do you like Malt drink?

(Clara laughs)

Clara: hmm, typical of a Nigerian to reply to a question with another question! Well I love malt drinks because it does not contain alcohol.

Patrick: That is not true, you do not know why you love malt drink, you should have taken water instead, What is the end product of starch in the body? Is it not sugar? As in glycogen?

Clara: yes I think so!

Patrick: Good! Both malt and beer gets converted to sugar in our bodies after all, so while you take in your sugar in a sweet liquid state, I take mine in a fermented way!

(Clara laughed out loud)
Clara: Pato! Pato! You are too smooth to be trapped! You have an answer to every question! But frankly, let’s be serious here, why do you like alcohol

Patrick: beer drinking helps me to relax, it releases work tension and helps me to sleep well.

Clara: What about when you get drunk?

Patrick: when I am drunk, I go to my house and sleep, I do not always get drunk though because I know my limit, but if I stretch my limit, I go home and sleep or I go clubbing and dance it off!

Clara: you go clubbing too? (Clare asks disapprovingly)

Patrick: Of course! I am a bachelor and I live alone, I go to club most Friday nights till Saturday morning.

Clara: But do you know it is not good in the sight of God to drink alcohol?

Patrick: oh no! Not again! Can’t someone enjoy his drink in peace? You are beginning to irritate me Clara! Who told you God disapprove drinking? There is a difference between drinking and drunkenness, even though one leads to the other, they are not the same.
Clara: drunkards will go to hell, you know!

Patrick: so I am now likened to a drunkard because I am drinking a bottle of beer?

Clara: that is not what I mean, but from one bottle, you will keep drinking till you get drunk.

Patrick: Clara! Can you do me a favour? Please?

Clara: And what would that be?

Patrick: Allow me to drink and enjoy my beer else I will pour it away and leave this table, this is not the best place and time to tell me this, I started drinking since my days in the University and no one has ever called me a drunkard, this is my first date with you and you are already irritating me with your attitude, are we in a Church? We are in a beer parlor for Pete’s sake! Is this how you nag?

Clara: are you angry?

Patrick: No o! I am laughing!

Clara: I am sorry Pato, please try and forgive me, do you know I have not actually gone out on a date with a man that drinks alcohol before? Let alone entering a beer parlor (She looks around the Bar gesticulating)

Patrick: Well, on my part, I have never gone out with a Church Girl on a date before! We are worlds apart.

Clara: Okay let’s meet on common ground

Patrick: There is no common ground between you and I Clara! Truth be spoken, you have always known and called me a bad Guy, a womanizer and everything but good

Clara: Do you want to know the truth Patrick?

Patrick: What truth?

Clara: how I feel about you.

Patrick: spill it out then.

Clara: I am attracted to you, only that I wish that you are born again, you are cute and intelligent and I love your sense and style of dressing, but my problem is that you are too worldly and you are not even ashamed to admit it.
(Patrick laughed out loud)

Patrick: My dear, let me tell you my own truth, I like you because you are a good girl, churchy, wife material kind of girl, but you are not sexually attracted to me, I see your type as house wife making babies and tending the home, however, sometimes when I look at your shape from behind, I have the urge of wanting to discover what is beneath those clothes of yours.

Clara: Ha! Pato! You are too corrupt and vulgar.

Patrick: There you go again! Okay why did you not resist me when I kissed you at the office the other day?

Clara: To tell the truth, I cannot explain what came over me, I was confused and shocked because my body yielded to you so fast before my spirit could react to what was happening.

(Patrick laughed, spilling his beer over the table)
Patrick: so the flesh was willing and spirit was weak abi?

Clara: It is not funny Pat! So what next now? You invited me out tonight and I am glad you did

Patrick: What next, other than we complete what we have started! After here we go to my house and consummate the relationship, from there we move on and see where it leads us.

Clara: No! Patrick you know I am not a slut! I am a Christian!

Patrick: Did I call you a Slut? Look Clara, quit pretending and let us quench this fire burning inside us, I can see it inside your eyes, let me quench this fire with water from my waist, (sneering) or are you a virgin?

Clara: Kai! Kai! Kai! (Shaking her head disapprovingly) Pat you are so rotten! Why do you speak so vulgar?

Patrick: My dear come off it! Are you a baby? Look, I am not your pastor or brother in the lord, I am a free bird, a bad guy as you would call it.

Clara: Patrick I like you because I know there is a good spirit in you, only that the evil Spirit in you is over bearing.

Patrick: Which means I would need deliverance abi? (He picks up his glass and empties his beer, then beckons at the Bar man and orders for another round of drinks)

Clara: Are you going to drink another bottle of beer?

Patrick: Just one more for the road, one for the road! On a good day I can down eight bottles of beer but for sake today I will take only two if you go home with me, but if you leave me then I will have to go clubbing, and you know anything can happen at the club.

Clara: Such as what?

Patrick: I will drink more beer and eventually come home with a girl. (Laughs carelessly)

Clara: Patrick, you hurt me with such words

Patrick: I am sorry, but it is the truth, that has been my life style. Ehen! You said I need deliverance abi?

Clara: Did I say so? No nah! But come to think of it, it won’t be a bad idea if you give it a trial o!

Patrick: who would deliver me then? You or your pastor?

LiteratureRe: Restless...story Of A Survivor. by DOMAWOLEYE(op):
Baba, once again picked, tossed and flipped his beads, he touched each piece of cowry on the bead talking to no one in particular, he looked at Cordellia straight in the eyes, Cordellia shifted closer to me visibly scared, she knew it was her turn, and with the way Baba stares, you would feel he is seeing your unclothedness, you would not know what has been revealed to him, so naturally you will be struck with “Fear of the unknown”

Beautiful woman! Fair Princess!..... You have to let go! If you do not let go, he will kill your husband! Baba spat out still staring at Cordellia with his face expressionless.
Let your husband protect you; let him regain his self-esteem with you while in bed. As long as you still see him and you still have sexual relationship together, you can never have a Child for your husband. I hope you know what I am talking about? Baba asked.
No o! I said, Baba she doesn’t understand!
I I stared at Cordellia with awe and surprise because she could not even defend herself, to the best of my knowledge, Cordellia is a very faithful Woman and her Childlessness after several years of marriage bothers all of us, Baba, I think has failed us this time. Baba did not bat an eye lid as he continued to stare at Cordellia.

Yes sir! She said, I understand what you are talking about. Baba then said:When you get back to your home, you should change the position of your Bed, change all your beddings and night Gowns to white coloured materials and when you sleep, sleep with the lights on. Always pray before you sleep and keep your Bible by your bed side, and stop looking forward to the sweet experience of making love to him in your sleep, it is you that has kept encouraging him and as such it is only you that can stop him.

The earlier you take a bold decision on this, the better for you because it is revealed to me that your husband has royalty around him.
I interjected her, Baba, i said: Her husband is the heir to the throne of Isuikwuato kingship. Baba continued, So you can imagine how important it is for him to have Children, especially Sons. Failure for him to have Sons will deny him or his lineage succession the throne. Your husband is an only Son, so you risk sharing your husband with another Woman in the palace if you keep on frolicking with your spirit husband!

I looked at my friend, so Cordellia has a spirit husband all this while? Yet she kept complaining of her inability to get pregnant? She even told me that her husband does not help matters and had refused to seek medical help! Wonders shall never cease, she just sat there in shame, and I know she is feeling so exposed and dirty.

Your spirit Mam hates to see your husband lying by your side in bed, he gets mad when he comes around and finds your husband making love to you, and do you know what he does? Baba asked and continued before Cordellia could answer: he lies on your husband, making him heavy! Your husband would not be able to move freely and he easily gets exhausted! On the other hand, you would be feeling unnecessary weight from your husband, you will be feeling choked because of this weight thus you do not enjoy sexual relationship with him at all.

Cordellia raised her hands to her head, pulled off her hat and started pulling on her wig, Baba it is true o! ye! ye! ye! I am dead! She wailed. When your husband fails to satisfy you, Baba continued: you naturally willed your Spirit husband to take his place and fill the gap and this he does readily. Your husband thinks he has a problem with you, and you as a Doctor, should help him out but you never mentioned it to him, he does not feel like a man when he is with you, that is why he is now seeking solace in the hands of another woman whom he can satisfy and with whom sexual relationship is wonderful. My dear, your husband now knows he does not have any problem!

Ye! Mama shouted: wahala wa o! There is problem o! She got up and excused herself to the convenience in the sitting room, I got up and followed her too as I was pressed at that instance but I stopped in my track when Cordellia shouted: What?.... What is the problem? Baba asked: are you deaf? Or have you not heard all I have said here? Are they false? I stood there undecided while my bladder was threatening to burst. I can’t just believe he will cheat of me, I can’t believe he can do this to me, my friend said crying. I ran into the convenience as mummy came out, I had barely pull down my undies when my bladder gave out it content, drenching my pants and skirts.

I came out drenched as I scurried back to take my sitting position, junior was staring at my drenched skirt, I squinted at him and sat down to hear Baba saying: Can you hear yourself talk? Can you? You pushed him to it in the first place, secondly you have been making out with a man all your life even on your matrimonial bed and with your husband sleeping foolishly right by your side! Now you complain that he is cheating you! Are you normal at all?
Who deflowered you? Is it your husband? is it not this same spirit man, the first day he slept with you, did you not wake up to see blood stain on your pants? So what are you talking about being cheated on? Listen to me my dear woman, your husband will take a second wife sooner than you know it, and you just wait till this woman gets pregnant!
God forbid! Cordellia shouted: Baba, please help me! Save my marriage! Please sir, I cannot afford to share my husband, Mama please help me to beg, please! She begged, I never knew it is as serious as this sir, Derby are you looking at me? I am sorry I might have disappointed you but I feel it is a normal thing nah, every one dream of having sexual intercourse nah! How could I have known it is a spirit man!

Shut up your mouth! Baba scolded. You dream of making love to a particular man always, and when you make out you feel physically exhausted, you even clean up semen when you wake up to urinate early in the morning and you say you do not know it has serious implications. If I tell you all that Ifa has revealed to me here you will not leave here today for fear. But for the sake of those who brought you here, I will ask for the way forward from ifa. Thank you sir! Thank you God bless you sir! My friend thanked.

I would have given you something to be putting under your pillow but your husband would not understand. You should open up your heart and enjoy sex with your husband and stop looking forward to enjoying sex with the man in your dream, change your beddings as I have told you earlier, I will prepare a cream for you to be applying before you sleep, this will scare him off, you will stop using the cream once you become pregnant. He will never appear to you the day he senses that you are a day pregnant.

Will I be pregnant Baba? Cordellia asked: Yes you will be, baba said: you are surrounded by children but you have held them back all these years. In fact before the end of next month, you will conceive only if you are willing!

I was just laughing at the way Cordellia reacted, she could not voice out her doubt of getting pregnant so quickly as Baba had prophesied. Baba bought the words out of her mouth: Doctor, do you doubt the gods? Ha! No o! She said: Who am I to doubt? But it sounded so easy sir so I was wondering. Ifa has spoken my Daughter! Play your own part well and let nature do its own.

Thank you sir, em em what about this other woman sir?
