N18bn contractors’ debt: Group accuses SSA to the President of plans to divert funds
Human Rights Group Advocates for People Right and Justice, has raised an alarm over the alleged plans by the office of the Senior Special Adviser, SSA, to the President on Millennium Development Goals, MDGs, to divert, misappropriate funds meant for the payment of local contractors who are being owed over N18 billion.
The group accused the office of the SSA to the President on MDGs of plans to divert part of the N15bn released for the payment of the contractors by awarding fresh contracts to themselves and cronies while deliberately refusing and neglecting to pay the contractors who the funds were meant for.

In a petition to President Muhammadu Buhari by its National Coordinator, Victor Giwa, the group accused the office of the SSA of diversion of funds and perversion of some sections of the procurement Act.

According to Giwa “The summary of the facts is that certain Nigerians, businessmen and small scale business owners and employers of labour had in 2013/2014 bided and won numerous contracts under the OSSAP on MDGs for various works in all the states of Nigeria. The contracts were executed, evaluated and confirmation was given by the relevant authority and certify action issued for onward payment.

“Sir, instead of prompt payment of the contractors, who had by their letter of awards, sought and received loans and other credit facilities from various bank for the execution of the project, the former SSAP indulged in selective payment, manipulation and fund diversion, paying a meagre amount to the real contractors.

He noted: “After series of intense pressure and agitation from these contractors and the intervention of the former Minister of Finance, Dr Ngozi Iweala, in 2014, the then SSAP, incorporated these contractors’ liabilities in the value of 15 billion naira, in the 2015 budget of her office, under the sub head MDG Intervention 1 and 2 and the contractors were pacify to wait for the release.

“It is shocking that while the OSSAP is now in receipt of the said sum via a warrant of release dated December 8, 2015, under the sub head MDG Intervention 1 and 2, officers of the OSSAP have failed, refuse and neglected to pay the said contractors their full sum. But have rather engaged in diversion of this fund into award of new contracts, for personal gains. This is in clear breach of the Fiscal Responsibility and Financial (Control and Management) Acts, Laws of the Federation.

“More so, the officials even in the award of the new contract, have brazenly perverted the express provisions of section 30 (a-e) of Public Procurement Act, in that they neither permitted bidders or attendees to observe the bidding process nor did they cause all the bids to be made in the open.

“It’s is further curious that the OSSAP-MDGS knowing full well that we have only but two weeks to the end of the 2015 fiscal year, are still bent on going ahead with the procurement process that is anything but fraud.”

“All entreaties for the OSSAP to channel the funds into liquidating it’s liabilities to its contractors have been met with an excuse that the Projects are meant for the Members of the National Assembly.

“The constitution of Nigeria is very clear that while the Assembly Appropriates the Executive Implements so we are at a loss on how it has now become the responsibilities of the National Assembly to insist on the implementation of projects that are bound to fail and that will only lead to increasing the already over bloated liabilities of the Federal Government.

“Consequently, we are seeking the following prayers: (i).Immediate payment of the duly owed contractors through the MDG Intervention 1 & 2 releases; (ii) Outright cancellation or stoppage of the award of new contracts.”

People in the community are now asking for a cleanup of their environment & asking the appropriate authority to look into it as the pollution is causing problems for those who live there.

From University of Lagos Nigeria, The Executive Governor of Anambra state Willie Obiano was among the five distinguished alumni of the University of Lagos who were honoured in a special Awards and Recognition Dinner which took place yesterday evening at the Multi-purpose Hall of the institution.
According to the university, the honour is for its “eminent and worthy Alumni who have distinguished themselves and are currently holding executive political offices in various states.”
Also on the honours list is the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo. Other honourees are, HE, Mr. Udom Gabriel Emmanuel, the governor of Akwa Ibom State, HE Mr. Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo, the governor of Gombe State and HE Mr. Ude Oko Chukwu, the deputy governor of Abia State who are all alumni of the university.

Former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has said though, it is ten years after his wife, Stella died, her memory would remain fresh in his mind.
Obasanjo said both his family and that of his late wife family ; Adebe have missed late (Mrs) Stella Obasanjo, ten years after her demise.
The late former First Lady, died on October 23, 2005 after a failed surgery in a Spanish hospital in Spain.

The 10th memorial service held at the Chapel of Christ the Glorious King of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL), Abeokuta.

In his brief remarks, the former President, while acknowledging that much had been said of Stella in his book, “My Watch” says,”he missed her late wife dearly.

He said “I wrote a little bit about her, there would be an occasion where I will talk about her.

“I think it suffices to say that we missed her dearly on both divides ;the Obasanjo family and Adebe family. Her memory will remain fresh in my heart “.

Also speaking on behalf of the Abebe family, Mr. John Abebe narrated fond memories of the Mrs Obasanjo corroborating the former president that the late first lady would be missed.

In his tribute, Senator Ben Bruce said Stella was an unusual and global woman would contributed her quota to humanity before her demise.

The presiding Preacher, Pastor Yussuf Obaje in his sermon titled “Keep her memory alive” described her as an epitome of womanhood, urging the family to continue to keep her legacy alive.

Deputy national chairman south of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former governor of Ekiti state, Engr. Segun Oni described her as quintessential woman, with a background noted for humility and integrity.

Oni who spoke with newsmen at the reception said his close relationship with the Abebe family gave him the opportunity to understand late Mrs Obasanjo whose pedigree could not be overemphasized.

Notable among the personalities present included, Senate President, Bukola Saraki who was represented by his wife, Toyin, former governors of Osun and Cross Rivers States, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola and Donald Duke , Ogun state governor, Sen. Ibikunke Amosun, Senator Daisy Danjuma, Funso Kupolokun, Ms Evelyn Oputu among others.

If you watch Yoruba movies, then you must be very familiar with them. After one year of his twin brother's passing, the other brother of Yoruba actors popular known as 'Ibeji Oran' has died. According to a LIB source, Taiwo died a few days ago and has been buried in his house at Owode along Ilesa, Osun State.

His twin brother, Kehinde died exactly one year ago, in October 2014. Both twins who starred in a popular Yoruba film 'Ide' were in their early 40's. He is survived by a daughter born to him by his ex-wife, Folake. May their souls rest in peace, amen.

The Alleged thief apprehended at Festac Town, Lagos. According to eye witnesses, the young man entered the shop pretending to buy Lacasera. He was told the shop doesn't sell the drink and as he made to leave, he took a phone, unfortunately for him someone saw him take a handset from the shop. He was accosted immediately and given a proper beating. He admitted stealing, pleaded for forgiveness and returned it. The shop owner eventually called the police...

African football leader, Issa Hayatou has been named to take charge of FIFA after former president, Blatter was suspended and “stripped of all duties.”

African football leader Issa Hayatou on Thursday took temporary charge of FIFA after Sepp Blatter was “relieved of his duties” because of his 90-day suspension, the world body said.

Hayatou, 69, is president of the Confederation of African Football, and takes over as senior vice president of FIFA. He has in the past been reprimanded for misconduct by the International Olympic Committee.

“Joseph S. Blatter was relieved of all his duties as FIFA president” after the move by the FIFA ethics committee to suspend him for 90 days because he is under criminal investigation by Swiss prosecutors, FIFA said.
