Parents have been sternly warned by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) to avoid registering minors for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). On Wednesday, March 13th of the year 2024, Ishaq Oloyede - who serves as Registrar for JAMB - responded to a lawsuit filed by Ifeanyi Eke. The issue in question was regarding allegations made by Eke claiming that the examination body had sent unsuitable text messages to her teenage daughter during registration proceedings. Eke filed a lawsuit against JAMB and three others in the Federal High Court in Lagos, seeking N100 million in damages. Nonetheless, Oloyede stated that the purported sender of the messages was not an employee of JAMB but rather a fellow student. During the lead-up to the elections, many politicians held meetings abroad, particularly the G5 Governors and Bola Tinubu, moving from London to Paris to conduct their business. Following the elections, some politicians have decided to get away from the hustle and bustle of Nigeria to rest and recuperate, away from supporters and lobbyists seeking to influence the new administration. Rather than choosing popular tourist destinations within Nigeria, some have opted for overseas destinations. For example, some politicians used the lesser Hajj in Saudi Arabia as an opportunity to leave the country, including Speaker aspirant Muktar Betara, who held a meeting with members-elect in his bid for the position of Speaker of the House. It appeared as if anyone that mattered in the political calculation was in Mecca, including President Muhammadu Buhari, President-Elect Kashim Shettima, and Femi Gbajabiamila, all in Mecca at the same time. However, some politicians are taking vacations overseas solely to rest after the grueling campaign season. President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the suspension of Hudu Ari, the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner who illegally declared Aisha Dahiru as the winner of the Adamawa governorship election. This declaration caused confusion in the polity until the INEC headquarters declared it null and void. Governor Ahmadu Fintiri has since been declared the rightful winner of the election by INEC. Comrade Chika Idoko, the senatorial candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the 2023 general election, has taken his case to the Supreme Court seeking to disqualify all candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). This comes after judgments from both the Federal High Court, Enugu, and the Court of Appeal, also sitting in Enugu, ruled that Comrade Idoko has no locus standi to initiate the cases against the PDP candidates. In mid-2022, Idoko went to court to seek the disqualification of all PDP candidates in the election, alleging that the party violated the Electoral Act in the conduct of its primary elections. He claimed that the PDP primary elections were in contravention of Section 77 of the Electoral Act, 2022, and should be voided.
