The leadership of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ebonyi State, the Ebonyi South senatorial candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Linus Okorie, and the Umuekuenyi Youth Forum are engaged in a dispute regarding the relocation of the election petition tribunal to Abuja. The election petition tribunal, which was previously sitting in Abakaliki, the capital of Ebonyi State, was relocated to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, by the President of the Appeal Court, Justice Monica Mensem. This relocation has caused uproar among the ruling APC, Ebonyi youths, and opposition parties in the state. The APC in Ebonyi State has petitioned the National Chairman of the APC, Abdullahi Adamu, requesting immediate intervention and a possible reversal of the relocation. The party believes that the relocation was orchestrated by the opposition parties, particularly the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in an attempt to obstruct justice by manipulating the Election Petition Tribunal. After the 2023 general elections, several Nigerian politicians have chosen to take their vacations overseas. During the lead-up to the elections, many politicians held meetings abroad, particularly the G5 Governors and Bola Tinubu, moving from London to Paris to conduct their business. Following the elections, some politicians have decided to get away from the hustle and bustle of Nigeria to rest and recuperate, away from supporters and lobbyists seeking to influence the new administration. Rather than choosing popular tourist destinations within Nigeria, some have opted for overseas destinations. For example, some politicians used the lesser Hajj in Saudi Arabia as an opportunity to leave the country, including Speaker aspirant Muktar Betara, who held a meeting with members-elect in his bid for the position of Speaker of the House. It appeared as if anyone that mattered in the political calculation was in Mecca, including President Muhammadu Buhari, President-Elect Kashim Shettima, and Femi Gbajabiamila, all in Mecca at the same time. However, some politicians are taking vacations overseas solely to rest after the grueling campaign season. Bola Tinubu, for instance, left Nigeria for over a month after the campaigns and the presidential elections and is reportedly in Paris, France, where he is believed to be receiving medical attention. His love for resting in Europe is not new, as London and Paris were mini-campaign headquarters during the election, with Tinubu using many overseas trips to stimulate his base, such as the release of the Seven Seconds video where he was doing a workout on a bike. He is expected to return... READ MORE |

Comrade Chika Idoko, the senatorial candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the 2023 general election, has taken his case to the Supreme Court seeking to disqualify all candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). This comes after judgments from both the Federal High Court, Enugu, and the Court of Appeal, also sitting in Enugu, ruled that Comrade Idoko has no locus standi to initiate the cases against the PDP candidates. In mid-2022, Idoko went to court to seek the disqualification of all PDP candidates in the election, alleging that the party violated the Electoral Act in the conduct of its primary elections. He claimed that the PDP primary elections were in contravention of Section 77 of the Electoral Act, 2022, and should be voided. He added that the party should be punished in line with extant provisions of Section 84 of the same Act. His argument was that the party submitted its membership register to INEC on May 6, 2022, less than 30 days before its primary elections, contrary to the provisions of the Act. Both the high court and the appellate court ruled... READ MORE |

President-elect Bola Tinubu will face the challenge of addressing the ongoing insecurity affecting several communities in Nigeria. Although President Muhammadu Buhari has attempted to combat terrorism and banditry during his eight-year tenure, critics argue that his efforts have fallen short. Tinubu, a former Lagos governor, has been touted by his supporters as having the experience necessary to tackle the issue. However, many Nigerians are skeptical due to their disappointment with Buhari’s leadership. Under Buhari’s leadership, the country has experienced a surge in mass abductions, including the kidnapping of 276 Chibok schoolgirls in 2014 by Boko Haram, which drew global outrage. Terrorists have also abducted students from several schools in 2021 alone, with some still being held captive... READ MORE |
