Donian007: This is the moment all those who were talking nonsense about our withdrawal should bow their heads in shame. While one m.oron said we pulled out because we are incapable he was ignorant of the facts sorrounding our AFISMA operations and refused to learn. Another m.oron was even insinuating that Nigeria didn't get the top job because of "Baga" but unknowingly showed he understood the reasons sorrounding our withdrawal yet went on with his senseless arguements. That said, it is indeed clear that Nigeria has redefined her self in international activities, her policies have been too strong for oppressors. She has shown her long reserved ability to shun any group or organisation that tries to take her for granted. Nigeria is not the author of Mali's fall, but cannot exempt herself in the fight to raise Mali up again as there are facts which revealed that Nigerian and Senegalese Special Forces were involved alongside French and Malian forces at the start of the fight to push out rebels beforce AFISMA deployed. Even her(Nigeria) is not free from insurgencies but have shown maturity and ability to bring them down and has achieved unimaginable success, flawing the propaganda by some local and foreign media all in a bid to tarnish her image, sometimes we wonder if these media work in synergy with these terrorist. However the recent turn of events at the UN concerning MINUSMA PKO, has pushed Nigeria closer to the wall and she has responded with a little slap reserving a more deadly blow to teach the UN a little lesson. Indeed the UN has no clear excuse to bring in a Rwandan general who himself has questionable character in Rwanda, if the UN ever canvassed for credible, responsible and disciplined officers for its missions then surely it has shot itself on the foot because Major Gen. Kazura is not a good choice. Thisdaylive in that report even indicates that Nigeria's Major Gen. Abdulkadir came tops in the examinations for MINUSMA command but was sidelined, indeed it is unfortunate that the UN is losing it all. Therefore Nigeria is no more comfortable with the politics the UN is playing, from Sierra Leone, Liberia and Sudan conflicts, Nigeria has done a lot to bring peace but these kind gestures are been taken for granted. Indeed Nigeria has awaken and "ENOUGH IS ENOUGH" she has vowed. The UN has indeed flawed.

There is no source in the planet earth that ever boldly reported that Seleka rebels spared the lives of 200 South African soldiers. Heaven knows that it is only half brains like Agaugust, ot even trained as journalists would fabricate lies to suit their unfounded frenzy.

Let agaugust know that he cannot change what happened in CAR by his propaganda. All his claims can all be reduced to zero because there is nothing objective from what he said. The world knows that Seleka were the first to raise the flag for cease fire. How on earth would heartless seleka rebels spared the lives of their enermy if they mercilessly killed civilians who are citizens of CAR? By the way, let us not blame a poor boy claiming to be an American because those are results of poor Nigerian education system.

Agaugust has never been to America, because what he says are just only hallucinations. He is wishing if he was somebody from the US with MBA, unfortunately he still find himself in that hole called Nigeria.
Keep fooling yourself, even SAengine has admitted that Seleka rebels returned a captured SANDF soldier. And please don't get too emotional over this na, abeg, dis wan wey u dey so interested for Agaugust identity. Na wah o!

andrewza: http://www.army.mil/article/107855/US_Army_Africa_exercise_Shared_Accord_13_kicks_off_this_week/

PORT ELIZABETH, South Africa (July 23, 2013) -- U.S. military forces are teaming up with South African National Defense Forces for Shared Accord 13, near Port Elizabeth, July 24-Aug. 7, 2013.

Shared Accord is an annual training exercise involving in-depth joint cohesion between U.S. and South African military forces during multiple training scenarios.

"This mission is designed to increase interoperability and build friendships with the South African Defense Force," said Maj. Chuck Slagle, executive officer for 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division.

The exercise involves many participants to include about 700 American military members from the Army, Marines, Navy and Air Force and more than 3,000South African National Defense Forces, or SANDF, members.

"Anybody can learn from anyone. We definitely learn from each other and can contribute our expertise to these exercises," said South African Military Health Services Capt. François Van Huyssteen, veterinarian with the Military Veterinary Institute.

Shared Accord 13, or SA 13, is a large-scale operation that will include multiple training missions to test the capabilities of both militaries. It will include an amphibious assault, combined live fire exercise, situational training exercises and a tactical airborne assault, which will lead into a Humanitarian Civic Action event, known as an HCA, for the South African community.

"It's great having all the Americans here," said Sgt. Maj. Andrew Stanley, watch officer for SA 13. "It shows the military capabilities and also the cooperation between the different forces."

HCA will provide health services to include dental, HIV screening and ophthalmology services, Slagle said.

Another aspect to HCA will be mobile veterinary services to include rabies vaccinations and tick treatments, Van Huyssteen said.

Through all of the exercises in SA 13, both militaries hope to improve skills while learning from one another.

"We're both here to learn," said Slagle. "The South Africans have a lot of experience and really we're just sharing. We're not training them on anything. We're improving each other through this exercise."
I sincerely think you'll need those SELEKA SPECIAL FORCES too, you know their expertise cannot be overemphasized.

saengine: Just to understand you.....you wanted us to go back into Bangui to do what exactly? Just to prove we could do it? Kilk Seleka rebels and leave, or occupy CAR and turn it into a 10th SA province? Not even the mighty U.S gets into a fight just for pure revenge. By the time assets were ready to deploy into CAR no SA troops were in danger or underfire. This was not a war, it was a 48hour firefight. Jets, helicopters and troops were situated nearby had central african leaders of surrouding states pushed for Seleka to be forcefully removed. Instead Seleka was given 18months to form a government.

Congrats on Nigeria being deployed to all those areas. But come speak to us when you deploy as far afield as DRC, Sudan and CAR from SA all at the same time. Assets are overstretched. Add to that piracy patrols in Mozambique in which air force helicopters and jets are used, plus border operations which the airforce and army are heavily involved in. Supply lines run dry quick, as you found out in Mali.

why nigeria pulls out 70% of its military forces in mali

QUOTE :

"Contrary to the mis-conception that the Federal Government of Nigeria is withdrawing its troops from the United Nations, UN, peace-keeping force in Mali because of pressing security challenges at home, Sunday Vanguard has authoritatively learnt that the action is a protest against the UN for naming a Rwandan army general as the force commander instead of a Nigerian officer.

Indications have emerged that the Federal Government and particularly the country’s military are no longer comfortable with the politics being associated with the United Nations peacekeeping operations in West Africa.

This is said to be the real reason behind the recent request for the withdrawal of most of the country’s troops from peace support operations in Mali.

The Federal Government had confirmed that more than two-third of the over 1000 troops deployed in Mali would be withdrawn.

The height of what was viewed in official circles as UN politics skewed against Nigeria was the appointment of Rwanda's Major-General Jean Bosco Kazura to command UN Multi-dimensional Integrated Stabilisation Mission in Mali (MNUSMA).

The source clarified that Nigeria did not have anything against Kazura but felt aggrieved over the growing trend of being used by the UN to "do all the dirty jobs without getting any glory or recognition for it".

The source said: "We feel cheated by the UN who used us to do all the dirty works in Mali only to now dump us. We feel aggrieved, cheated and disappointed, to say the least".

Further investigations revealed that even though the Federal Government needed to withdraw the troops to strengthen its forces against the Boko Haram insurgents and combat other internal crises rocking the country, the action was an indirect protest against UN treatment of Nigerian contributions in peacekeeping operations.

The source added: "You remember what happened in Sierra Leone, after our troops had done the major thing, won the war, secured the peace. First came the British to take the glory and then an Indian Lt-Gen. Vijay Jetly was given the command of the operations by the UN. Now they are bringing one Maj-Gen from Rwanda after using us to do the dirty work.

In terms of hardware contribution, the Nigeria Air Force deployed two Dassault-Breguet Dornier Alpha fighter jets and two Mi-35 Helicopters, the C-130 transport Hercules and the medium carrier, the G222, VBL armoured vehicles, Sagaie wheeled light tanks, Scorpion 90mm gun tanks, its brand new BTR-3U infantry fighting vehicles, plus unmanned land recce Drones among others.

"It is an issue of racism and feeling that Nigeria should not be made to feel powerful. It is totally about the disdain for the blackman".

END OF QUOTE.

zetdee: A new report entitled
``Nigerian Unity in the Balance”
authored for the United States
Army War College has, again,
warned Nigerian leaders to
beware of another civil war or
an outright break-up following
what it called ongoing divisive
trends in the country.
The report released by the
Strategic Studies Institute of War
College was written by two
former American servicemen,
Gerald McLaughlin and Clarence
J. Bouchat. McLaughlin is a
graduate of the U.S. Army War
College while Bouchat is also an
adjunct professor at the U.S.
Army War College (USAWC)
The report, whose foreword
was written by the Director,
Strategic Studies, Institute and
U.S. Army War College Press,
Professor Douglas Lovelace,
observed that divisive forces
were becoming more stronger
than uniting forces in Nigeria,
warning that unless this was
reversed, Nigeria`s existence
could be jeopardised.
According to the report,
“Parochial interests created by
religious, cultural, ethnic,
economic, regional, and political
secessionist tendencies are
endemic in Nigeria. Under such
stresses, Nigerian unity may fail.
“Should Nigeria’s leaders
mismanage the political
economy and reinforce
centrifugal forces in Nigeria, the
breaks to create autonomous
regions or independent
countries would likely occur
along its previously identified
fault lines,” the report warned.
“Having already experienced
one brutal civil war, Nigeria is at
risk for a recurrence of conflict
or dissolution, especially since
some of the underpinning
motivations of the war remain
unresolved,`` the report
observed, detailing many fault
lines speeding up disintegrative
tendencies in the country.
“Indeed, East Timor, Eritrea,
Croatia, and Somaliland indicate
that the weakest point of failing
states is along colonial borders.
Of more interest for Nigerian
unity is that this may also occur
between regions separately
administered by a common
colonial power, as occurred
between Malaysia and
Singapore, and North and South
Sudan, where differences
proved irreconcilable after the
departure of British
administration. At least, some of
the resulting regions and states
of a possible Nigerian
devolution may divide along
such internal lines”, the report
projected.
While conceding that Nigeria’s
fate is primarily in the hands of
Nigerians, the report noted that
such could be positively affected
by actions of the US, adding
that “Nigeria’s future is in
balance and the United States
should help tip the scales.”
The report particularly warned
that religious differences were
taking the centre-stage in the
emerging conflict situation in
the country, disputing repeated
reports that economic reasons
were to blame for the
insurgency and other conflicts
in the country.
The Strategic Studies Institute
(SSI) is part of the U.S. Army
War College and is the strategic-
level study agent for issues
related to national security and
military strategy with emphasis
on geostrategic analysis.

Well I was expecting this report to be posted here by you SAns. You know what? Nairaland is a place where a lot of people talk a lot of nonsense, but we Nigerians know that even if the USA prophesy a million times viewing the polity in-country, that prophesy is forever a wet-dream. There is a long list of such prophesies and we only watched them melt. Obama can say and do whatever he wants but MOTHERLAND NIGERIA cannot be cowed anymore.

Comment of a intellectual poor person. The French sent weapon systems suited for highly mobile desert warfare like wheeled armoured vehicles. Tracked vehicles like Tanks, did not get action. And BH is not as powerful as the rebels were in Mali.
Do me a favour and list the weapons and number of troops used by France in Mali and Nigeria in her NorthEast.
