Dude, I am a programmer as well and I know how much you guys are making in Nigeria compare to what guys are making here. I know a lot of talented folks in Lagos that are hustling to come over here. I have personally hooked lots of them up on some remote projects over here. I am not saying life is so easy here but life is not f**king easy anywhere, you've got to work very hard to be successful. Arguing alongside that little boy Op who probably hasn't gone anywhere in his entire life is so abysmal to say the least.

Did you even read what i wrote

The averagely successful programmer in America makes $120,000 per year (before taxes)

The averagely successful programmer in Nigeria makes about about $20,000 per year (7.5 million)

Meanwhile,

The averagely successful Android / iPhone/ios programmer anywhere in the world makes close to $400,000 per year

That's 3 times more than what an averagely successful programmer makes in America!.

The moral lesson here is to try and publish as many Android / Ios app you can as a programmer which would in turn increase your chances of becoming an averagely successful Android/ ios Programmer so that you can earn $400,000 per year!.

Unfortunately,
Nigeria has only a handful of Android / ios programmers (less than 100). majority of the programmers in Nigeria are web programmers!(at least 99.6%).They code with languages like Php(Laravel), Asp.net, node.js et.c....these web languages can help you get a few freelance jobs but ultimately you would not make as much money as even an average mediocre Android developer.

This is why developers in Nigeria are struggling!!. And that is why in my previous post i suggested that anyone considering to learn programming should just learn Android /ios programming (kotlin or swift).

Believe me, there are Flashlight apps on the Google Play Store that make more than $3,000 per day

Here is a link to one:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.peacock.flashlight

Nothing,
Absolutely nothing stops you from creating one yourself!. infact you can even just buy the source code to one flashlight app and publish it on the Playstore. Here is a link to pruchase the source code:

https://www.chupamobile.com/android-full-applications/android-flashlight-app-962

Again,
Am an Android programmer,I dropped out of school, i have over 60 apps on the Play store. I make quite a lot on the play store!. I wont trade my Nigerian driver's license for an America citizenship!!

well...its a little project that I am abt to undertake, and it would require getting 3d data from customers, I cant tell them to go get 360 3d camera now can I, customers hate complexity, it turns them off, and I know of some companies overseas that have similar apps to what I want, so I figured it was possible

i think it works on extruding 2d images taken at various angles, and den closed up to form the 3d shape
Yes, its very possible. But its hard!. the easy way out is to get a simple 360 camera!.

You can create a business model where your customers can rent camera's from you.

Creating an app will eventually create more problems for you because all your customers have different phones with different camera specs(12megapixels, 13 megapixels even 5 megapixels). The variation in camera hardware is going to mean a variation in the quality of the finished 3D object.

Customers with great camera's would help the app produce stunning identical 3D objects while customers with budget phones will create shaby looking 3D objects.

The simple and effective method is to own both the hardware(360 camera) and software(simple texturing app) hence you can guaranty quality of your every object scanned.

That's why Apple is so successful, They control the hardware (iPhone) and the software(Ios). So their customers are always satisfied because the result are always consistent!

Loool!!Nigeria has technically been in a recession since since 2014!!
Nigeria is NOT on any list of countries posting any economic growth!!In 2017 alone, the country's economy shrank 0.5% in the first quarter of 2017 and in 2016,Nigeria's economy shrank 1.5% .
What growth are you talking about Kenya has had stable growth of between 4 and 6% the past seven years.Well above the average in Africa. Nigeria has not!!
Oga, your countries' total GDP (70 billion USD - kenya) is less than the GDP of Lagos (136 Billion USD). So a 4% growth in Kenya would be nothing in Nigeria's GDP.

Lets do the Maths:

6% of 70 Billion USD = 4.2 Billion USD (So Kenya grew by $4.2 Billion USD)

Hence:
- 4.2 Billion USD = 3.2% of 136 Billion USD(GDP of Lagos)
- 4.2 Billion USD = less than 1% of 500 Billion USD (GDP of Nigeria)

Please, don't make me laugh. $4.2 Billion USD is like the GDP of oshodi in Lagos grin

Honestly,
I think Kenya is a great country. But it just dumb
to be comparing the country to Lagos state talk less of Nigeria. So supprised this thread is still on.

Sigh grin grin

Thank you for the mention bro

The Op of this thread has no idea how much you can make doing menial jobs here.
I do menial jobs currently(check my thread about adjusting status). I posted my last 2 weeks paycheck on my thread plus how much i make at my other job. In a week, i make at least 800USD. Multiply 800USD by 4, that is at least 3200USD in a month. Now convert that to Naira. grin grin grin. i don't need to lie to anyone. I work crazy Hours. Infact, i use to make more than that but since the end of the summer, things has slowed down in the restaurant where i work my main job. Thankfully, i work for a man now who pay 80$ cash per day and we work all day of the month, ALL DAY!!!...Do your calculation and see how much i make

Like i always say, NA WHO COME YANKEE KNOW WETIN DEY
Bros,
Am a programmer and i live in Abuja also i earn more than you every month....way more than that $3200USD. I have app on the Google play store that earn me lot of money. The best formula is to stay in Nigeria learn a skill that can help you earn foreign exchange right here in Nigeria!!.

I will advise anybody that wants to travel abroad to do menial jobs to just learn programming i.e making android apps, or start a Youtube channel....Just do something to earn foreign exchange here in Nigeria.

Your life will be bliss!!.

Also,
You will be helping Nigeria to earn foreign exchange. Lets all take advantage of the opportunities the Internet presents to us.
This is the 21st century you don't have to go to America to earn American dollars $$. you can stay here in Nigeria and make it BIG

God Bless Nigeria!!...and America too (specifically Google grin grin)

How dare you compare Lagos to New York, wen you are not mad??

Abi o ri e buru??

Is Lagos even better than these cities, Dublin, Amsterdam, Cairo, Rabat, Johanessburg, Beijing and lots more...

Lagos wey kpoto kpoto full everywhere....

Bros, i provided data. Data cannot lie. NewYork is not so far from Lagos.

Here you go:

Actually,
If you look at the data. Lagos is not so far from Newyork.

[b]Econonmy

The Gdp of Newyork is 1 Trillion Dollars ( $1,265.723)

The Gdp of Lagos is 100 billion Dollars($100,000,000,000)

So Newyork is just 10 times better than lagos atleast economically.

Age
Newyork was created in 1662 by the Dutch. Newyork is almost 500 years old. (Newyork is even 10 times older than Nigeria talk less of Lagos!!)

Lagos is just 50 years old.

Growth:
Newyork's GDP has been stuck at around 1 Trillion Dollars since 1998
Here is data to prove it:
http://www.deptofnumbers.com/gdp/new-york/

So Newyork is not growing at all.

Whereas Lagos Gdp is almost doubling every 3.5 years.

So in 20 years max.

The Gdp of lagos might rival or even Surpass that of NewYork.

Tanzanians are warm people no doubt, but their initial system of governance was more poised against change. You can imagine even as neighbors, kenya/Tz have not made joint package tours/ marketing despite some of our parks striding across the border e.g Masai Mara-Serengeti, which are essentially one park in two countries. Yet kenya has package tours and single marketing campaigns with far away neighbors like Seychelles. Kenyan tour vans cannot cross to Tanzania, but Tanzania tour vans can cross into kenya without questions. Talk of North and S. Korea, we try to do everything to make them see its beneficial if they reciprocated but they cannot move an inch.

The reason why kenyan men don't seem to marry the beautiful Habeshas is that the South of Ethiopia is inhabited by Oromo people who are all the way into kenya. The Habeshas are further into the center of Ethiopia. Then, from the Ethiopian border into Kenya is purely an arid inhospitable region full of tribal communities and untill recently, you could not risk travelling to Ethiopia via road. Infact, about half of Kenya northwards is an arid area and not much integration with Ethiopia has been going on. There are however many habeshas married to kenyan men in nairobi.

However, the two governments are doing all they can to link the two in what is known as the Lapsset Corridor. Kenya is completing massive road construction to Ethiopia while Ethiopia is doing the same southwards, and they will also build a rail to link to kenyas that is headed north.

If you ask me about investing, I have no doubt that Kenya would offer the best returns. It is also by the far the most stable, don't mind our hot politics that may sometimes boil over. But Land in kenya is expensive and housing too. If you want cheap land and houses, Tanzania would be an ideal place, but they don't sell land to foreigners. Rwanda has the best environment for doing business, you can be assured of never having to bribe anyone over there and security is almost guaranteed. I'm not an expert in property prices but the average land price in areas close to (not in) nairobi would be about 9000 USD for a sizable 50 by 100 plot. The housing is there to cater for any class. For a foreigner, Kenya is the best because no one cares where you come from so long as you are investing.
.

Thanks for the great reply i learnt a lot. I just did some small research on that "Lapsset Corridor Project". You know building one or two Petrol stations along that corridor won't be a bad idea, land would be super cheap there too as it would practically belong to nobody. Unfortunately though the project might not be completed until 2030.So baba na very long ting.

Speaking of oil, How do most states in the region get oil supplies?,how easy is it to setup a Gas Stations. Are there exhorbitant fess to pay to acquire licenses or is it just as easy as taking a walk in the Serengeti?.
$9000 x 2 is quite a high price to pay for a 50 x 100 plot that is intended for a Gas station.

Am going to start building my first Gas station in my Home state (Kwara) here in Nigeria before the year runs out (by God's grace of course).Kwara state is not Lagos so its fairly cheap and easy to build a Gas station down here. Like i said earlier i grew up with this "Pan African" mentality so setting up shop in other African Countries is really on my mind.

I would really love if you can enlighten me a little on the oil industry in East Africa. Am pretty sure most Nigerians on this thread would love to learn too. Enough of this baseless bashing and comparisons. What African needs now is cooperation. But we can't cooperate if the only thing we know about each other are the negative things.

Can you imagine?, I just learnt that a Nigerian (Bolaji) and a kenyan (Ken) setup a company called Cellulant. The company is sooo big and successful its going to be listed as a Fortune 500 company a few years from now.thats what happens when Africans collaborate. I shared a Youtube video about a Speech ken gave about their humble beginnings.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CZWbgb21AA8

I really wish this thread would be about how we as Nigeria can join hands with kenyans and other Africans to build Africa. But nooo its about baseless comparisons that don't help anyone. Na wah for all of una.

For instance, am an Android developer, i would be really stoked to make an app with a Kenyan or any other willing African for that matter. But......
