Plz am confused. How come the truth is yet to be revealed about some barbaric traditions which are suppose to go into extinction but yet always face up to undermine, hurt, and dehumanize our existence, image, integrity, dignity and intelligence. It is no news again about the death of OONI of IFE which I sincerely mourn as a great loss and as regards the only thing deemed fit at this stage is to pay him respect by burying him and wishing him peaceful rest in the bosom of the lord or peaceful entry to the land of the dead as tradition may choose to say, what is annoying and out of place is why a living human being should be killed as an accomplice to the dead king, ''ABOBAKU'' in Yoruba means someone that dies with the king when the king is dead and it is a chieftaincy title to some family. My questions is this; is this not suicidal in the sense that if a king dies and the titled ABOBAKU is still living he will have to be killed to fulfil the rites of what the tradition dictates? Is this tradition not promoting suicide? Shouldn't this tradition be abolished? Isn't this a threat to life? Do you not think that the progress of life or living is undermined by this secular tradition? We are now a civilised Nigeria, I am not against tradition and culture as it forms the basics of identity but I am of the opinion that some traditions and cultures should be reviewed so that people's life is no longer subjected to the trauma of some barbaric agreement and beliefs made on ignorance. I also want to use this medium to appeal to communities all over Africa to please review their tradition and make amends.

I remember the drama text I read while in school written by wole soyinka's DEATH AND THE KINGS HORSEMAN. Quite an experience. That's '' ELESIN'' on the run coined into ''ABOBAKU''
