The Czech approached this game with a strategy as designed by their coach. The tactic was very clear.. Maintain positional discipline, stay compact without the ball and maximize attack with their strength which were wing plays and aerial balls.

When that ball came in, he had the chance to take control of that situation before the first bounce but he allowed that ball take a bounce and that made it a 50-50. Even after the bounce he was in a better situation but again his indecision on what to do with the ball led to the handball.

He was never at any point guaranteed to clear that ball. The striker rushed him, gave him pressure and no breathing space until he lost balance and resorted to the decision he took.
