Havertz10: pep changed his tactics at Bayern, still does the usuals but it's more direct now, iniesta and xavi were special players
That Barca team was the best team the world has ever seen in my opinion, pep had to admit so you are wrong, he doesn't play with that system anymore, it's a hybrid kind he uses now Pep didn’t fully change his tactics in Bayern, he tried it with the wrong players and it backfired severally against top teams in Europe. Same happened to him in England that he had to change. To me, Xavi and Inesta were the reason Pep’s tactics worked for him in European competitions. They were gods in that tactics. Ready to face any team. That’s why it’s difficult to ware their individual values. |

Kilishihunter: Maybe. Well they messed up in the national team after years together so that should give you a clue, No matter how great players are, if they don't compliment each other they would fail, I don't need to tell you the midfield is the heart beat of the team Grazie List successful midfielders that played together only in country games. I mean midfielders that successfully impacted their country side to victory. |

Greatihex: I didn't watch zidane play, so I don't have anything to say about his playing days. But it will wonderful to learn that he was a fraud as a player and also being a fraud as a manager yet with many trophies. This man must be the luckiest man on earth. Zidane has more than 30 individual awards. That alone, should tell you how good he was. |

Kilishihunter: Oga I can give you a list of other successful midfields who succeeded without their players playing in the same club side, so that's not an excuse (except for maybe the coach) If you told me Gerrard and scholes or lampard and scholes would have as much impact as xavi and iniesta then I might agree with you, because as much as both lampard and Gerrard were world class box to box midfielders and massive threats especially while going forward no one of them could set the tempo of the game, dictate play like Paul scholes in the center of the park, a controller If Lampard and Gerrard played club football together, they would have achieved more than Xavi and Inesta. That’s what I think. |

Havertz10: system matters, nobody is denying that
But which system excels? Barca have shown the world that positional awareness will always dominate brute force, players that play better in the superior system are better
That's how we should look at it It worked for Barcelona then, can’t work for them now because of the modern days football. That’s my point. Pep tried it in Bayern and flopped in Ucl, tried in his first season in Epl, flopped that he had to change. Imagine Pep using 35+ years combat dm which is Fernandiho. That should ring a bell. Football has changed. Ball playing Dms now can’t properly function without a combat dm partnering with them. |

Havertz10: how Chelsea fans can value kante that has little technical ability over players with considerably more technical ability is shocking
Football no be by using force, watch de jong defending, he uses positional awareness to mark but Chelsea fan like people with power
Kovacic didn't live up to the expectations that people had, jorginho is slightly better but he doesn't have positional awareness to cover for his lack of strength like most top players
Era of playing hard man football done pass, messi 50% and Ronaldo 20% have launched a new era of tactical astuteness over brute force If you don’t have power or strength to be combative in a midfield, atleast be productive with goals and assist. De Jong lacks the two and can’t be compared to Kante for any reason. He’s who he is because he’s playing in Barcelona, a season in Epl will help people realize how useless non-combative Dms can be in this modern days football if you don’t pair them with a combat dm. As for Kovacic and Jorginho, I like the both. They are not bad players, they are just unfortunate to play for a club and league where fans value and cherish combative midfielders more. |

Lampard is also positioned as a CM in transfermarkt, same as Iniesta. Let's compare like for like na.

Havertz10: iniesta and xavi fed of eachother, busquet excelled being the link for their movements but he wasn't a strong defensive midfielder, his job was to recycle possession
Individually iniesta and xavi were good, ozil had his moments and enjoyed feeding the appetite of ronaldo, he was a good player but one on one iniesta was better
Pele was good but he will never be called a maestro like johan cruyff Inesta and Xavi fed each other, I initially gave credit to them on that. One on one means you’ll compare Inesta and Ozil statistically. Do you want to know that will happen if that happens? |

Debroslink: Iniesta still won La liga after Xavi left. Iniesta won UCL without Xavi beside him.
Someone should tell us the UCL Xavi won without Iniesta Inesta fanboiz don hide small, but you just wan drag am to the mud. MSN won Ucl for Inesta. The end of MSN form helped in exposing the fact that Inesta is individually useless. Infact, Messi took over that Midfield immediately Xavi left. Remember Peter Drury commentary over Inesta when Roma humiliated Barcelona in 2018? In his voice... “Inesta don’t know where to look”

Ibime: Zidane can't be dragged by central midfielders of his era when it comes to productivity. Zidane played in 4-4-2 era and his stats stand up against all his peers in the same position in the same era.
Even from a different era where midfielders were not goalscorers, Zidane has 95 league goals while Iniesta has 35. That's nearly 3 to 1.
How can someone come from a different era where the expectations are different and flog you 3 to 1 Inesta and Zidane aren’t mate in anyway. Zidane is way above his level IMO. I made that point to let Izzou know that statistically, any player can be dragged by any fanbase. |

izzou: As much as I agree with you, the same standards used to drag others should be applied to Mazi Fraudniesta Iniesta.
Giroud played the World cup with no goal, and we never rest till today. Be reminded that the WC tournament has less games than the league
Iniesta went through a year without a goal or assist, but we should talk about Creativity, influence and class.
Nna, don't make a case for Iniesta abeg. Let him be dragged accordingly. Inesta will be dragged once his fanboiz start dragging people's favorite player. Nobody dragged Fraudvertz here until his fanboiz started dragging Mount. Most of the dragging here are done in defense. If e sure for Inesta fanboiz, make them drag people’s favorite players that’s when you’ll know that no player is above being dragged in the mud. |

Ibime: It does not matter. What matters is what you do when you get there.
How long did it take Drogba and Kante to break into elite football?
Iniesta is not the one that helped Xavi break into first team. By the way it's not like Xavi has not been a useful first team player before then, just know he was competing against Deco for the same position who was also a don himself. I understand your point, but then... You must understand that whatever it is, Xavi achieved in Barcelona with Inesta, Inesta achieved all without Xavi. They needed each other, give credit to both. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Chelsea Fan Thread: Club World Cup Champions 2025-2029 by donstan18: 7:05am On Jun 21, 2021 |
Ibime: Xavi was never useless without Iniesta
Iniesta player left wing for Spain and Xavi ran that midfield with other men from Marcos Senna to Busquets to Alonso to Fabregas, Xavi never failed to run midfield for Spain. Iniesta was never part of the Spanish central midfield, he was a left winger for Spain.
But as you rightly observed, Iniesta was useless without Xavi after Xavi left the scene. How many year did it take Xavi to break into Barcelona’s first eleven without Inesta? When did Inesta break into that first eleven? And when did Xavi break in? The answers of the aforementioned questions will help you understand the point that Inesta refined, influenced and impacted Xavi’s games. Vice verse. Individually, they are shiit!! |
