Foreign Affairs / Zimbabwe’s Mugabe To Be Buried In His Village Early Next Week by Dorischuks: 9:14am On Sep 12, 2019
Zimbabwe’s former president Robert Mugabe will be buried early next week in his village and not at a national monument for liberation heroes, his family said on Thursday.

The family of Mugabe, who died in Singapore last week, and Zimbabwe’s government have been at odds over whether he would be buried in his homestead in Kutama, northwest of Harare, or at the National Heroes Acre in the capital.

“His body will lie in state at Kutama on Sunday night.., followed by a private burial — either Monday or Tuesday — no National Heroes Acre. That’s the decision of the whole family,” his nephew Leo Mugabe told AFP.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa, who worked closely with Mugabe for decades before helping to oust him, granted Mugabe the status of national hero within hours of his death.

The memo sent by Zimbabwe’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs to embassies in Harare and seen by Reuters said the funeral would be in the National Sports Stadium but did not specify where the burial would be.

It said heads of state would be expected to leave the stadium immediately after the funeral ceremony because officials would be busy with preparations for the burial.

The Zimbabwe Independent newspaper reported last month that Mugabe didn’t want to be buried at National Heroes Acre - a site reserved for the country’s heroes - because he felt bitter about the way he was removed from power.

In comments to The Sunday Mail newspaper, Mnangagwa’s spokesman George Charamba denied that the government and Mugabe’s family were at loggerheads over where the former president should be buried and said the provisional plan was for the burial to be at National Heroes Acre.

An Ibadan-based salesman, Subar Ibrahim, on Wednesday prayed a Mapo Customary Court in Ibadan to dissolve his three-year-old marriage with Rukayat, on the grounds of infidelity and threat to life.

Ibrahim narrating his ordeal before Chief Ademola Odunade, the President of the court alleged said that he had explored all other possibilities of changing his wife, but she has not changed, NAN reports.

The complainant, said, ”Before the birth of our child, I caught Rukayat in a compromising position with the man she last dated before me.

“She said that she did what she did because she wanted to find out the reason why she has not been able to get pregnant in a long while.

“I was sad at first but she apologised and I forgave her. I also kept it a secret between us.

“I later realised that Rukayat continued to bring different men to my home each time I travel on business trip to Kano State.

“Rukayat has also exhibited her jealous spirits on many occasions. She has called my boss and female colleagues in the office, cursing and embarrassing them.

In her response, the defendant opposed the suit, but did not react to most of the allegations levelled against her.

But speaking, Rukayat, who resides in Oke-Ado area in Ibadan agreed that she has many male friends on Facebook.

“Please, I have nowhere to go, don’t separate us,” Rukayat pleaded.

Politics / Xenophobia: 84 Nigerians Return From South Africa by Dorischuks: 11:56am On Sep 11, 2019
The first batch of 84 Nigerians evacuated from South Africa is expected to arrive Nigeria on Wednesday at about 2.pm local time via the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos in company of officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, disclosed this in an update made available to newsmen in Abuja on Wednesday, stating that although 313 Nigerians were confirmed as those to form the first batch of evacuees, only 84 of them would arrive on Wednesday because they were the ones cleared to embark on the flight to Nigeria.

According to the ministry, 640 Nigerians have indicated the desire to return from South Africa and have registered to do so.

The ministry added that the second batch of evacuees would depart Johannesburg for Nigeria on Friday.

“The Air peace aircraft which was scheduled to take off at 9. a.m local time was delayed due to the fact that checking in and clearance procedures by immigration are very very slow.

“There are complaints of system failure and out of the 313 confirmed for the first batch of evacuation today, only 84 are cleared so far.

“The more the Aircraft waits for the passengers, the higher the amount the Aircraft will pay for Parking,” the ministry stated.

Following the xenophobic attack on Nigerians in South Africa, Mr Allen Onyeama, Proprietor of Air Peace. Airline volunteered to send an aircraft to evacuate Nigerians willing to return free of charge

The process which was earlier scheduled to commence on Sept. 6 had stalled as it was reported that most Nigerians willing to return did not have valid passports or travel documents to complete immigration formalities.

Politics / PEPC Strikes Out Portion Of Atiku’s Criminal Allegations Against Security Agency by Dorischuks: 11:28am On Sep 11, 2019
In its second ruling on Wednesday, the PEPC upheld argument by INEC that it was wrong by the petitioners to raised criminal allegations of intimidation, harassment, corruption, etc against security personnel and some named persons, but who are not parties to the petition.

The PEPC, in the second ruling on a motion by INEC, said the court lacked the vires (powers) to entertain any criminal allegations against any person, who is not before it.

It proceeded to strike out portions of the petition by Atiku and the PDP, where such allegations are contained.

Earlier in the ruling, the court upheld the petitioners’ contention that, issues of qualification and whether or not a candidate supplied false personal information to INEC before the election, could be heard before or after an election.

The court said questions about a candidate’s qualification could be pre and post elections issues that could be heard being either a High Court or an election tribunal.

It held that it has jurisdiction to determine thi issue of whether or not Buhari was qualified to contest the election and whether or not held lied in the personal information contained in the affidavit he submitted to INEC as alleged by the petitioners.
